Help on PSE 11 please. In simple, non-tech English.
I am on a 1-month trial with PSE 11 and can not get my scanner to appear in the Import box, the only available selection being "WIA Support". Searching for help in Adobe Exchange I found the following:
We strongly advise you use WIA Support for your device if available. If your device does not support WIA drivers then we recommend you try updating your TWAIN driver. To install the legacy TWAIN plug-in:
Copy the Import-Export folder from
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11\Optional Plug-ins\
to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe Photoshop Elements 11\Plug-ins\
Can anyone tell me why Adobe "strongly" advises using Windows drivers and how, step-by-step, I carry out the above instructions to install TWAIN?

If you go to:
(before doing the below, make sure pse 11 is not running)
(this on a windows 7 machine, but should work on windows 8 as well)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11
in that folder you should see a folder named Optional Plug-Ins and another named Plug-Ins
Double click on the folder Optional Plug-Ins, right click on the folder that says Import-Export and click on Copy
Go back and double click on the folder that says Plug-Ins, right click in an empty space and press Paste
With any luck you see your scanner on the import menu in pse 11

This error occurs mainly at startup of Firefox, but also happens during a session from time to time. Generally it is OK if I select "Continue" (I don't know what to expect i I select "stop script").

Step 2: Uninstall those you can from Control Panel -> Add/Remove programs. If you ''still'' get this error, you may have Norton or another security program which can also in some cases cause this issue. That takes us to:
Step 3: Configure security program correctly.

For other firewall programs, see [[Firewalls]].
If none of these steps solves the problem, please provide any detail you can think of that may be related and let us know, and we will try to find other solutions to get this solved. -

If you use extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extension) like <i>Adblock Plus</i> or <i>NoScript</i> or <i>Flash Block</i> that can block content then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

IN NEED OF SERIOUS HELP...PLEASE BE PATIENT AND KIND
Hello...and thanks in advance. I will try to make this as concise as possible.
I have a 20GB U2 iPod (I don't know the generation - but it does NOT have a color screen). Its warranty recently expired (prior to all my troubles of course), so I'm trying to fix this on my own.
Anyhow... lately the device turns on successfully and appears to have all my saved songs (approx. 650); however, when I attempt to play a song from the beginning of my "songs" list - nothing will happen - except the screen will begin scrolling through every song though playing none of them. If I choose a specific song - nothing will happen - it will just return to the main menu.
After putting it aside for a few days because of the irritation it caused, I've decided to try again. Except, now the problem is that NO songs are listed on the iPod. Everything is gone. When I plug it into the computer, iTunes does NOT automatically appear and it would seem that my computer has no idea that the iPod even exists. Also...earlier the "About" screen informed me that I had 20GB capacity, but only 4 available. Now it says 18.5GB capacity with 10MB available.
So, I have begun the suggested "Five R's". The iPod has been fully charged. I have done the "hold" key operation, changed the USB port I was using. I have updated the software and iTunes and have restarted my computer.
Currently I am trying to restore the iPod, but the updater is not detecting the iPod. And the device itself just continues flashing the "Do not disconnect" message and makes a whizzing and clicking noise inside.
I did disconnect the iPod a minute ago and the updater then said "Can't mount iPod". I don't know what that means - so I simply tried the updater process again.
So here I sit with a whizzing-clicking iPod on my lap typing this to you hoping for any sort of help.
I am not the most tech savvy person, but I could really use some help if anyone is willing to take the time to help a "rookie".

The updater screen (on the PC) finally allowed me to choose the restore option - I did. It prompted me to confirm my choice - I did. The status bar popped up, but nothing happened. I left everything plugged in and walked away for several hours. Came back to find "Disk Mode" no longer visible at the top of the iPod screen, but "D.N.D" still flashing. And...now the small updater box (on PC) says "Can't Mount iPod" again.
The upside...No more whizzing and clicking!
Any thoughts?

Learning curve for a non techie-Business Catalyst. Two specific questions.
Hello everyone,
Thanks for reading. I am a non techie who is looking at website development as a secondary skill.ie. having the know how to atleast relay my ideas to web developers and ideally to be able to tweak and in the end able to create my own websites.
In this regard, I feel Business Catalyst is an excellent tool, for people like me which mitiagtes the knowledge of coding to an certain extent. I am currently going through some of the content listed in the forums. Is there a book that provides end to end detailed steps of all the implementation to complete a fully functioning website and how much is the learning curve in this regard?
Also,
Business Catalyst offers all in one features, is it possible to use 3rd party in place of default tools for specific function, say use wordpress for blog and a different email marketing service?

SatishI personally would tend to prefer wordpress for a small non-commercial website/blog. Its ecosystem of plugins is far more diverse than BCs and you get direct access to the code if you want. BC's blog and forum modules seem somewhat like afterthoughts designed by marketers for marketing, and there's some unevenness to the way they implement what HTML and templates you have access to and what you don't in different context, so to a degree wordpress gives you more fine-grain control over a site.
The transverse of this is that with open source software you don't necessarily have the quality control or guarantee of long-term maintenance that you might with BC. Business Catalyst is far more initially optimized for business (obviously) and its servers can likely experience a higher load and greater uptime than you might get on a typical hosting service with wordpress.
Wordpress is kind of notorious for being hackable, mostly because of its ubiquity, although if you work on it it can be secured to a reasonable degree I think -- I'm not aware of any security issues regarding Business Catalyst, apart from recent issues with the captcha and spam which might have been resolved with Akismet and Recaptcha (both of which you can also get on Wordpress obviously) but personally I don't like having all of my accounts linked with a single Adobe username/password.
But then again, I have to trust that Adobe has their **** together and there isn't some festering zero-day sitting at the heart of all of it because the price you pay for playing in BC's sandbox is just that -- it's their sandbox. They're not releasing the code. If you can't change it with an existing module setting or can't hack around with with javascript then complaining until they fix it's your only option.
In short, I think it depends on your needs. Neither is entirely the wrong answer, and both have their issues. I've been just as frustrated with some of the rendering bugs and limitations in BC as I have with the way Wordpress (IMHO) overdoes abstraction while simultaneously sticking with its horrendous code-and-content mixing template style. If you have inventory and need to push stock and don't really care about mucking around with server-side code or anything really complex than BC will probably work for you, and of course there are always sites like bcgurus and these forums to help out with edge cases. -
I recently update my iphone 5 and had lots of problems. Apple support helped but now I see that none of my music is downloaded. Do I have to download each song/playlist individually?
Updated the phone to IOS 7.1.1 but there was a problem with my computer. Everything was removed from the phone but I couldn't get it back without help. The tech helped me and everything is fine now except the music. I did sync it and backed it up but wonder if I should restore backup. I'm a little nervous to try that, what do you think.

Configuring VLANs on Cisco switches - help on basics please!
Hi people.
I'm buying Cisco switches to my home lab to practice VLAN and have some doubts, would someone kindly help me?
I'm thinking of buying two 300 series switches for the servers (VMware boxes), configure two separate VLANs for VMs and two other VLANs for desktop computers, in order to simulate a small office with a datacenter and two floors (one VLAN for each floor).
I presume that the connection between each floor switch and the 300 series core switch will be via trunk mode on both, not access port mode, is that correct?
Another question: for the desktop switches, the ports that are going to connect to the desktops (which runs windows with non-vlan tagging aware nic), will be configured with the correct VLAN, and the operating system will just communicate normally as if there was no VLAN tag on the frames?
Since I need inter-vlan routing only on the core switch (the 300 series), for the desktops switches I can purchase some 200 series, right?
And the last question: presuming that I configure a third VLAN and add a third floor switch, but this time a 100 series switch that is not VLAN capable, so connecting this switch to the 300 switch, will it work, or not?

So, I could also use multiple links with LAG/LACP carrying all vlans between switches?

So, If I understand correctly, if having one vlan per floor in an office building, for economical reasons you could deploy simple non-managed and non-vlan capable switches, and in the data center, a core switch with the vlans configured for each floor?
And viewing from a technical perspective, what would be the advantages of deploying in each floor a vlan capable switch configured with the correct vlan?
And which method mentioned above is more common deployed for endpoint floor switches?

Non tech question on audit logs and determining what you need to switch on, and most importantly, WHY.
Can I ask Oracle DBA’s if you have ever been responsible for defining, documenting and implementing and audit logging and monitoring policy for your critical database(s)? Did you come up with the actual scenarios for which you are turning the audit logs on in the database, and if so are you willing to share some scenarios where there is sensitive data in the database? Say if the database had personal/sensitive data (i.e. medical/health records), so there would be perhaps medium motive for people to misuse the data/gain unauthorised access.
I basically want to lay out, for scenario X, Y and Z, unless you audit A, B and C, these actions aren’t traceable to an individual/workstation. Any help you can give would be most useful. Or any “scenarios” you can add would help, i.e. admin Y decides to go rogue and dump the entire database and sell to the local media.Hi;
Its deeply question, but if you have soo sensetive data you need to enable monitoring and also monitor DBA activities, there are many documents avaliable about this topic in net.
We also prefer to keep our strong password in case for case sensetive dbs and also sperate password between dba's and managers.

i noticed this behaviour once or twice...
in my case, it was that the Artists' names were related to single tracks. or single albums...
for example, i had only 1 album for an artist in question, so instead of getting the expected "album list" from a click on the artist, i got the listing of songs on the single album i had loaded for them.
check your tags for the artists in question... a lot of downloaded MP3s, etc, are rather "dirty" . you may find spaces after the name. Multiple listings for the artist where case (upper/lower) are incosistant... for example... if you have tracks taged with artist "Twisted sister" AND others with "Twisted Sister" you may very well have this issue.
one tool to use when trying to see if this is the case is to use the BROWSE function in itunes. Click that then scroll thru the list of artists in the center column. See if you have some duplicates in there.

I am new to php and am setting up a dynamic site in Dreamweaver (thanks to the Missing Manual – very helpful). I apologise in advanced for my lengthy description of the problem (perhaps get yourself a drink before continuing!)
I have a Search page with 4 list menus where the user can select an option from ANY or ALL of the menus, if a menu is not selected the value posted to the results page will be 'zzz'.
On the results page I have 4 recordsets, all getting the correct results, only one recordset is required to run depending on how many of the menus from the search page have been selected and a test is run before executing the sql using a SWITCH statement checking how many of the menus had passed the 'zzz' values from the Search page if you see what I mean. The results page has Repeating Regions, Recordset Paging and Display Record Count. The exact result that I require are generated by this method.
THE PROBLEM, when a user makes a selection the first page of 10 results is fine, but the error message above is shown at the bottom of the page, AND when the user clicks NEXT to go to the next page of results THERE ARE NO RESULTS.
This is exactly what happens depending on how many menus selected and which recordset is used:
4 menus selected from Search: runs RSsearchforsale, results correct but 3 error messages on 1st page relating to mysql_free_result($RsSearchForSale2),mysql_free_result($RsSearchForSale3), & mysql_free_result($RsSearchForSale4). The display record count shows correct results found. NEXT page is empty of results and still shows the correct display record count as if it should be displaying the records, also has the same 3 error messages.
3 menus selected from Search: runs RsSearchForSale2, results correct but 3 error messages on 1st page relating to mysql_free_result($RSsearchforsale),mysql_free_result($RsSearchForSale3), & mysql_free_result($RsSearchForSale4). Thank you for your reply and patience, we are getting closer in spite of me!
Of course i needed to change the name of the recordset, i did that the first time i did it (when i got the error), the when i re did it i forgot, in my defense i was also trying to get a full understanding of the code using the W3Schools php reference and writing by the side of the code on a piece of paper what it meant in English.
Anyway after re doing the code correctly it still displayed all the records of my database but i realised that was because i was POSTING from the search form and when i changed it to the GET method I now get results when all 4 list menus are selected from and the paging works. After reading about the POST / GET method i chose the POST option, is the GET method a better option in my circumstance?
On my site now if the user selects from 1,2 or 3 of the menus rather than selecting the relevant records it displays the NO RESULT page, I would like my users to be able to select from all of the menus or ANY combination of the menus and find exact results for their search, for example if they only select a location and a price i want it display all records that match that location and price with any number of bedrooms and any Type of property: Perhaps this is due to how my list menus are set up, for each menu the first Item label is Location (or Beds or Type or Price) and the value i have left blank which i believe means that it will use the item label as the value, the second Item label for all menus is Any and again the value has been left blank. All other item labels have values relevant to database records.

You're not adding the WHERE clause to the SQL query. My example code uses $query_search. You need to change that variable to match the name of your recordset, i.e. $query_RSsearchforsale.

The task-pane completely disappeared. My local apple technic-centre messed about with disk utility for a bit and than told me to reinstall leopard. I could of course do that, but it seems to me that reinstalling Leopard just to fix iCal events is a bit invasive.
I tried also tried removing everything, installing a new copy of iCal from the leopard-cd, software updates, all to no avail.
At the moment I'm open to all suggestions that do not include a complete leopard reinstall. -

Recently i updated my the itunes but after doing so although it would open on my computer for a bit, it wouldn't recognise it - ie, syncing phone or I could open the program but when trying to redeem a gift voucher it didn't recognise the program on my PC and suggested i install it!. Today it wouldn't open at all so I tried to uninstalled it so i could reinstall it from scratch but now it won't re-install but just takes me to 'thank you' page.
