Help on purchasing IdeaPad laptop

Hi everybody,
I wanna get a new laptop and so far Lenovo IdeaPad seams the right choice, especially for the cool aluminum design.
I'll use it mostly for web/software dev and little bit of design (I'll do this on my desktop but just in case) on both, Linux and Windows 8.
So far I stumbled over IdeaPad U410 and 430p. (http://shop.lenovo.com/ro/ro/laptops/ideapad/u-series/u430p/) (http://shop.lenovo.com/ro/ro/laptops/ideapad/u-series/u410/).
Not sure what to choose however. Also, I don't know what are the system configurations in these cases.
For example, is there any IdeaPad U430p with this configuration?
Intel® Core™ i5-4258U (if not Intel® Core™ i7-3517U)
1 TB, optional 16 GB built in SSD
Full HD 250 nits (1960 x 1080)
8GB DDR3L 1600 MHz
Windows 8 Pro x64
If not, what's the closest I can get to this? But with Windows Pro if possible.
And just to make sure, U430p has a aluminum body or it's plastic? So far I've only seen U410 and it looks cool.
I also appreciate any suggestions

  • Help Transferring Playcounts To Laptop

I just recently purchased a laptop to take off to school with me. I am copying my entire My Music Folder which includes my iTunes folder as well as random music folders from when I used to use Windows Media Player and Musicmatch Jukebox to a portable USB hard drive. When I go on my laptop to File/Add Folder/My Music, I get all my music but none of the playcounts nor playlists have transferred. I have the XML file in the iTunes folder, but for the life of me can't figure out how to make this library on my laptop the same as what I have on my desktop. Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Purchasing a laptop

    Hello,
I'm in the process of getting ready to purchase a laptop but I have a few requirements that I want on it. I want wifi and a webcam. I would prefer to have Windows XP on it. At least a 16-17" screen and the big thing is lots of memory. I would like at least 6mb of memory..expanded to 8. I've been looking at the HP Pavillion DV6-1280US 16 inch entertainment laptop, but I haven't seen them on the website. Or do you have any other suggestions with the requirements I want? Thanks for your help.
    Demetria Hale

For that ,price, its such a bargain, and for all of the features it has, its certainly able to grow with you in the future, although I would think this is enough already. Whats cool about this model is that the WiFi has Wireless B/G/N which are all the network protocols for wireless networking youll ever need.
You also have Lightscribe, you can laser etch labels onto the disc using special lightscribe blank media once you are done putting pictures on there. You can put a picture of you on the label or whatever you want.
The memory card reader is a plus for all of your memory card formats, cant miss without that.
What it does not say if it has a firewire port on there or not. While normally its not needed, some people with camcorders prefer this type of connection to transfer their digital video onto the computer.
    Overall you should be set.

I am purchasing a laptop with a 4k screen (3200x1800) resolution, will Lightroom work at these levels? what is the highest resolution LR will support?

As Rob has pointed out there is no maximum resolution that LR supports, but performance decreases as resolution increases. I'm using an i7-860 quad core system with a 1920 x1080 (2.1 Megapixel) monitor and LR runs well. A 3200 x1800 (5.8 Megapixel) monitor will require ~2.75 x more processing to render the real-time loupe image in the Develop module. Some people have reported sluggish screen updating when making adjustments in the Develop module with even lower resolution monitors such as 2560x1440. Here's a post that discusses the issue:

Someday - and no one knows when that day will come - maybe all applications will be able to take advantage of the Retina display. But for the present, not many do: including all Adobe applications. There was a demo of Photoshop at the Apple World Wide Developers Conference of Photoshop running at native Retina resolutions but no one at Adobe in marketing is saying when, if or how the upgrade may be coming. It could be a week, it could be a year, it could be 2-3 years. No one knows. And only Apple app's (for the main part) are really utilizing the native Retina display.
I've seen some demos of some applications (Apple's) that take advantage of the Retina display and they're awesome. But in actually working in the here-and-now I've heard quite a few gripes, particularly on the Photoshop forum, of menus looking pixelated and/or 'blurry' so I'm not quite ready to jump into the Retina display boat just now. Don't get me wrong - others have ad are very, very pleased with their selection. But until Retina displays are available on larger monitors, the maximum work area that you're going to be able to use is 15" - and that's simply not enough room for full-blown graphic design. Then there's the cost factor - for the $4,000+ you spend for a completely full-blown Retina kit, you can get a standard MacBook Pro, 16 GB of RAM, a fast SSD and even the Apple Thunderbolt Display for the same amount.
The standard MacBook Pro isn't better than the Retina display: it's just different. And I think (and this is only my opinion - other graphic designers should feel free to jump in here) that it's the best computer that you can get for your specific purposes. And, towards that goal, I have to recommend a very good external monitor (there's nothing more annoying than having to use InDesign in a single-page mode rather than side-by-side because your monitor isn't big enough).
Remember that this is only my opinion and that others might jump in with their own. But I was in the electronic pre-press business for more years than I care to admit and we always - always - worked with at least 19" monitors (and that's back when dinosaurs actually ruled the world).
I hope that others will jump in with their comments. I'm going to follow this thread and see!
    Good luck,
    Clinton

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
That's because the old owner still has it as a registrated device on his/her Apple ID. Contact with him/her and ask to remove the registrated device from the Apple ID, so you will be able to register it as your iPad

  • Request help for purchasing HD webcams using iMac, OSX &Lion

I am requesting help for purchasing a HD webcam using iMac, OSX &Lion.  Any suggestions would help.  The following is what I've done so far...
I purchased Logitech's HD C910 webcam. It was a mess in requards to freezing up, no zoom and most of all no adjustments in: contrast, hue, color, etc. You're stuck just like a car with no engine or wheels who wants that.  The other Logitech products i.e. Pro 9000 is being discontinued with no software updates in the future  and the same with the other products. Most of the other manufactures do not provide software that is really compatible provideing true HD with full features. I'm willing to spend around $199,00 or so.  Any suggestions?

Well I found my own answer to the webcam concern that I had ....I bought the Logitech C-910...Yes, I know the Logitech states their software is not compatible with OS X ...That's OK, I only use the basics supplied by Logitech to open the cam...Logitech does supply HD settings which are useful.  I like the wide angle which is there to play around. Then I use a software program called "Webcams Settings" found at Apple's App Store. There is a small charge for this download but more than worth it to have a fully functioning system.  The best way to get there is obliviously via your "Dock." Click on the icon and type in "Webcam Settings" in the top right portion of the page and presto....you have all the goodies to play like a professional. i.e.:  zoom, pan, tilt, aperture. etc. of course your webcam camera(s) must have the capability to perform these options in order to use them.
Note I have used my webcam for everything you can imagine and have a 60 foot cord (several cords linked together) to go outside (LOL) 'Just love the goodies with "Webcam Settings".  I take outstanding pics too if I do say so, please.  Funny, I rarely use my cam to Skype but knowing the option is there for me anytime I wish.  I my cam to photograph orchids and misc. even portraits and family play photos with my tripod in hand.   Just because there is a big road block in your path doesn't mean there aren't other avenues. In the corporate life it's called take a negative and make it a positive or else.......and if you have to gripe then you better have an idea on how to turn it around.  -So- I did Logitech and Apple.
