Hi,
I have a customer outside the USA and want to
set up a wireless internet service within 20-30
miles radius of a city.
What is the best way to do this?
thanks

Proprietary solutions like LMDS and MMDS are doing just that. Actually, MMDS is more appropriate in your case. (LMDS - Local Multipoint Distribution Service,
MMDS - Multichannel Multipoint Distribution Service)
MMDS is being used by Sprint Broadband to provide Wireless broadband in some areas, however, they stopped accepting new customers. Official explanation was that MMDS is not economical solution.
IEEE 802.16 is an emetging standard poised to replace MMDS/LMDS and promissing up to 155 Mbps in the 2-10 GHx lisenced and 11-63 unlicences spectrum. 802.16 is for building wireless metropolitan area networks as an economical method of high-speed (2 - 155Mbps ) "last-mile" connection to public networks.
802.16 was ratified last December. It may take another half a year to a year to see any GA 802.16 equipment on the market.

Alec

  • Can't Activate AT&T Wireless Broadband

I have a new T61p Type 6459 that was ordered with integrated AT&T Wireless Broadband, using a Sierra Wireless MC88775 Network Adapter card.
Upon receiving the machine, I attempted to activate the Broadband Wireless using the Activation Wizard.
The Wizard does its thing, then says "The AT&T mobile wireless device could not be detected. Please verify that a device is enabled, powered and available. Ensure the external wireless switch, if available, is in the On position."
The switch on the front is On. Ctrl-F5 verifies the switch is on, and the Wireless Wan Radio is "On."
Called IBM EasyServ, and the machine was sent to the Repair Center.
When it came back, it had the exact same problem! Nothing had changed!!!
OK, called IBM EasyServ again. The machine went to the Repair Center again.
When it came back, it still has the same problem!!! The only difference is the Activation Wizard is wearing Cingular clothes instead of AT&T clothes. And, the driver for the video adapter is missing. Evertime the machine boots it runs the New Hardware Found Wizard and wants to install a driver for the video adapter.
It's beyond me how the people at the Repair Center can't do a simple thing like verifying a repair.
I can run the AT&T/Cingular Communications Manager. It says "Initializing" for several seconds and then says "No SIM." It shows 4 bars of signal strength from the cell tower.
I have a T60p that uses the Cingular Broadband with no problem, and activated with no problem, so there is nothing wrong with the AT&T/Cingular coverage here.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on here???
This is a brand new machine. I suspect it was configured incorrectly when it was manufactured.
I have re-imaged the machine several times. I have checked that the SIM card is present and not inserted upside down, and reseated it several times.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Centex,
yes I meant the Sierra Adapter.
A hard drive is classed as a "CRU - Customer Replaceable Unit". You are permitted to exchange the unit yourself; i.e. if your hdd dies, rather than you having to send your TP in for repair, they just send you a new hdd. You swap it out and send the old one back. Doing something like this for diagnosis will not invalidate your warranty.
I understood from your first post that your T60p "uses the Cingular Broadband with no problem". My suggestion is to try the hdd from your T61p in the T60p and not the other way around, (if the adapters are the same). Swapping the sim cards can't hurt either. You can see how to remove the hard drives here.
I would actually try swapping out the sim cards first as it's alot easier. Take the battery out and you should see where it sits.

I suggest removing the driver via Device Manager, then re-installing the drivers from HP Recovery manager.
Make sure the bluetooth dongle and the drivers are compatible with Vista 64bit.
I have more HP devices than you'd expect.
1 HP TouchPad 32 GB with Android
    2 HP Touchsmarts (310-1000z and IQ527)
    2 HP Printers (J6480 and J5750)
    1 Laptop (HP DV6253CL)
Have at least some experience in each of those devices, and i'll do my best to help you.
    Kudos if I helped!

  • Wireless broadband

I have just purchased a new MacBook Pro and cannot get wireless broadband to work.
Everything works on my old MacBook Pro.
The difference seems to be that the new computer is not setting up an Aircard icon.
Do I need to install some sort of aircard software?
Using Bigpond Wireless Broadband 2.18 (usb modem is Aircard 880U)

You probably need to update the software - here's their Help info:
Latest BigPond Mobile Broadband Connection Manager for Mac OS X
The latest Mac OS X BigPond Mobile Broadband Connection Manager is 3.4.10506
    Download:  Mobile_Broadband_3.4.10506.dmg  (18.8 MB)
Note: We recommend you restart your computer once you have installed the new Connection Manager.
    System Requirements
BigPond Wireless Broadband requires Mac OS X version 10.4 or 10.5 or 10.6. It's also important that you have the latest update of Mac OS X and Safari.
If that's not the right device/software then check this out:
The software you need to download depends on which device you are using for your mobile broadband.
If you are using any of these devices , (including our latest BigPond Ultimate USB device)  go to these instructions to download the latest version.
If you are using any of these devices ,  go to these instructions to download the latest version.
If you are using either of these devices,  go to these instructions to download the latest version.

  • Optus Wireless Broadband USB

I purchased an Optus Wireless Broadband USB the other day, I have installed the Optus program; however, whenever I am connected to the internet, 5 mins later, my apple freezes and tells me to 'restart by holding down the start button', this has happened over 30 times.
Does anyone know of any programs or methods to fix this problem. Any help will be much appreciated.
    Thank you

Is this USB device Mac compatible? If so, have you downloaded and installed the latest drivers?

  • Correct settings for wireless broadband service

Ok, I’m about to lose my mind over trying to get my wireless broadband connection working correctly.
I had the wireless broadband antenna installed on my garage. I mounted AEBS in my garage and connected it to the cable from the wireless broadband antenna. I can access the internet with no problems, but I have questions about the proper settings. (I’m having printing issues that I didn’t have with my phone line connected to the AEBS and I just want to start from scratch and try to understand how this should all be connected.)
    Here are my questions:
    1)     What settings should I be using on the AEBS for wireless broadband and which port on the AEBS should be used?
    2)     Why is it that when I look at the status indicators in the Network settings control panel, it only will show yellow and never green?
    3)     I have a second AEBS in the house, what is the best method to connect that one to the one in the garage?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. After I make sure this equipment is working OK, then I’ll tackle the printing issue.

    Thanks for the response…
    1)     I had to turn off DHCP on the AEBS in order for it to work. They supply an IP address. (If you can’t tell, I don’t know a lot about what I’m talking about…)
    2)     I now have two AEBS and an Airport Express. I purchased another AEBS this weekend trying to solve the printer problem. I think your comment is related to my green status light that I mentioned. Actually what I was referring to is if you look at the system preferences in on the Mac and show the Network Status, it shows a red dot for anything that is not working and when I’m at work connected to the network, it shows a green dot if everything is working ok. At home with the Wireless Broadband, I get a yellow dot which is kind of telling me that the connection is somewhat working.
    3)     I currently have the two AEBS connected by using WDS and I don’t plan to connect the AE until I make sure everything is working correctly and I can print again.
I assume I should be using the WAN port on the AEBS to connect the broadband. I’m not sure why I can’t use DHCP.
    Thanks again

  • Wireless Broadband and Airport Express

Where I used to live I had ATT DSL and used my Airport Express to provide a wireless network and the use of my non-networked Samsung printer. My new address won't have DSL or Cable--but there is Verizon wireless broadband. Is there a way I can more or less duplicate what I had with the DSL and the Airport Express? I sure would like to be about to print without having to physically attach the USB printer cable to my MacBook? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Hello,
The idea behind the Cradlepoint CBA250 adapter (which I have not tested) is to create an Ethernet output from a USB (or ExpressCard) modem or a mobile phone. This combination would thus effectively replace a DSL modem that has been connected to a WAN port of a wireless base station. If your AirPort Express was used as a base station, and was working with a USB printer earlier (much like this), everything ought to be as before.

  • Firefox is showing "Server not found" when Fedora 14 NetworkManger is detecting ppp connection through wireless broadband modem

    Hi,
I am using Wireless broadband modem. Network manager is detecting the modem and successfully acquring an ip through ppp0. But Firefox is showing "Server not found". I have found that /etc/resolv.conf is updated properly. And ping or nslookup on some url like www.google.com is working from terminal. So it seems either firefox is not able to use DNS or ppp connection. I have also tried by disabling eth or lo. But of no use.

    See this thread: here.
However, please don't use 192.168.0.2 for the router but 192.168.137.2 instead. Home sharing uses 192.168.137.1 on the sharing computer instead of 192.168.0.1 as it was in earlier Windows versions.
To make the change, unplug the WRT from your network. Wire your second computer to a LAN port of the WRT.
Open the web interface at http://192.168.1.1/
On the main setup page, change the LAN IP address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.137.2.
On the same page, disable the DHCP server.
    Save settings.
Unplug the computer. Now wire one of the numbered LAN ports of the WRT to your home sharing computer.
    That's it.

  • What are requirements for Installation of Wireless Broadband

I am getting wireless broadband installed next week and wanted to know what network card I should purchase and how to install? Where can I go to find the info. Also do most towers already ahve a version installed?
    Thanks

    First, welcome to the discussions.
    You are getting Broadband Installed.
Wireless is determined by having a Wireless Router.
Most Internet Service Provider don't furnish a Wireless Router you will have to go out and purchase it seperatly.
Your Tower does have an Ethernet Card and will allow for direct plug in that will enable you to have the faster speed that you are after.
Normally Wireless connections are used for portables like laptops that are mobile and can be readly moved from one location to another with a minimum of problems.
It is not really necessary for you if you are working from a tower. You will not be moving your computer from room to room like with a LapTop.
If you decide however to make your system Wireless you only need purchase a Wireless Router to Ethernet Cable to your Internet Service Providers Modem.
