Help -- open files
I recently moved from a G4 to a Mac Pro with Snow Leopard. Everything was working well, but now after working for awhile, I can no longer use the menu to open a file -- this is happening in all applications (Photoshop CS4, etc.) -- it even happened in Mail when I tried to attach a document. I have to force quit. It will open a document when I drag it to the dock icon. It starts working again after I reboot -- any suggestions?

A migration of legacy software can bring certain things forward that may not be fully compatible with Snow Leopard.
The general approach at this time is to ask if you've checked for any problematic fonts (all languages) with Apple's Font Book (look in the Applications folder). Find and remove all duplicates also.
Start there to be sure all fonts that are in play come out with a clean bill of health.
Don't hesisate to perform wholesale deletion of old and/or little used fonts - be skeptical of anything that has come from Office 2008, including those related to an Equation Editor installation.
By all means be sure any 3rd party apps AND plug-ins are Snow Leopard compatible.

Try making a copy and moving it to a new folder. Try renaming the copy with .p65 or .pm6 extensions. If you have access to pagemaker on a mac try opening it there.
You probably know this now, but always make incremental copies of your pagemaker files, rename the file as you go along 01file.pmd, 02file.pmd, etc. Pagemaker files will corrupt, even without a power outage, and it is nice to have a previous version available.
Battery Backups and external backup drives are a good things too.

Need help opening files created on Mac in PC
Please help! Our old Mac is down and I need to access some files on our network that were created in PM 5. I'm now using a PC that I downloaded the trial of PM 7 onto in hopes of being able to access these files and convert them to InDesign CS4.
Here's my problem:
When I try to open a PM 5 (or even a PM 6.5) file created on the Mac using the PM 7 on the PC I get this message: "File cannot be translated to PC and converted to new version at the same time." Does anyone know how to get around this? Is there another program that will translate the Mac file to PC?miz_nrg wrote:

A co-worker has a MacBook that they're going to bring in next week so I can transfer the files. Is this just going to be a matter of me opening the files on the Mac and saving them as a pmd file on our network drive, then going into my PC and opening them in either PM7 or InDesign (which is where I'll be doing all the updates)?
This will not work. Pagemaker needs to run in Classic on a Mac running OSX. A MacBook is an Intel chip and does not support Classic. You either need an old Mac that boots OS9 or a PowerPC Mac that will run Classic. As long as they are PM6 or better they should open no problem in IDCS3 and 4.

Newb needs help opening file browser and getting full file name and path.
Ok, so I'm a TOTAL newb here, but I have managed to get it to open a file browser but all I can seem to get it to do is give me the NAME of the selected file *eg. selectedFile.name* I also need the path of the file as in C:\example\file.mp3.
The program I'm making plays an MP3 of your choice at a certain time, like an alarm clock. But I got tired of entering the file path of the MP3 EACH time so I wanted to have a browse feature.
Ideas... help... thanks...

Logic pro 8 works fine when open. Have recorded several songs with it,
However when I attempt to most of my Logic 7.2 files, it crashes over and over gain. It seems to search for and load files, but will not open after it does. Any help is greatly appreciated as I have some valuable songs from logic 7. I did remove logic 7 finally, but it also did it when it was loaded.

I am trying to open CR2 files from a Cannon EOS 1DX camera in Photoshop CS6 and I have already updated the Camera Raw Plug in but Photoshop is still giving me the cannot open files dialog box? Help?
Canon 1DX support was added to ACR in version 6.7, 7.1. An updated CS6 should be at level ACR 8.6. If your ACR is not at level 8.6 try using CS6 menu Help>Updates. If that does not install ACR 8.6 try downloading the ACR and DNG 8.6 converter and see if ACR 8.6 will install into your CS6.

HELP. ............Hi folks hope some one can help me please.Having a problem in Bridge I open my images in ACR, as I open files in a folder and lets say they are labeled in yellow they are all going back to the camera raw default , in other words no matter what work I have done, inc cropping they all go back to ,as they came out of camera. What I have to do to correct the following problems with Pages app. For iPad:
Hesitates to display results of typing, some times for 5-6 characters;
Very slow in opening files;
Before opening of a specific file displays message: DOCUMENT DETAILS. SOME CHANGES WERE MADE TO YOUR DOCUMENT. SOME IMAGES ARE MISSING BECAUSE THEY WERE DELETED FROM YOUR DOCUMENT. We'll, nothing is missing. But it takes forever to open this file. The previous issue of Pages worked very good. But they would not let me to go back to it. Please, help!Tmobile did the exact same thing to me. So that is customer service at work in general. Nice try though lol.

I see you said You paid for shipping, did you Insure it? Claim insurance on it. If you did not, It may not be Verizon or your fault in the sense of the phone not making it to the warehouse. There are people out in the postal world that will steal phones that are not insured. It could have been a Verizon employee, i suppose.
But, if this was to be a bought in court, if you shipped it with out insurance, sadly your at fault.
Do you still have the Serial number of your old phone? If so, you should be able to track where your phone is (if it is reported as a defect/damaged) If so, you may be able to use that as proof. If it does not show up as a defect or what ever they determine use as a loss, then you know it did not make it to the warehouse to be checked in. I would suspect Apple or Verizon could tell you what the Serial number came up as. -
HELP! Files won't open and previously had Firefox icon instead of DW icons! Leap Year thing?
Hi! I went to update my website, which I do every night before the first day of every month and all the files had a FIrefox icon instead of the usual Dreamweaver one. I have shut down, reinstalled DW MX 2004 but the files still do not open. The icons have now changed to DW but they are not opening with right click, opening from Applications folder, double clicking the file, from get info and open with DW. I am stumped. HELP! Need to update for March 1st.
Is it something to do with Leap Year 29th Feb? Checked the clock in preferences but can't see how this affects it.
Firefox is always updated but the latest version does not seem to be as efficient as previous upgrades. We installed Chrome as well. Do they interfere with each other?Hi Ken

I am not late with updating the site, which is about New Zealand culture,
month by month (www.englishteacher.co.nz). Probably only the third time I
have been late since 2005. Not a huge amount of traffic, ~300 a month and
free access to content but I would like to solve this problem.

HHi having trouble viewing a downloaded file from a site my iPad is telling me I don have a app to open file . And have downloaded loads of apps and still no joy . Have tried this on my android phone to and still nothing. Please can anyone help as slowly going crazy. Thanks tim

Need help. I am running a 27 in imac with 16 gigs of ram. Photoshop runs really fast, except when opening files. It takes 5-10 minutes to open even a small file of 1 meg. I cleaned and validated all the fonts and removed all questionable fonts. Reset preferences and still have problem. Slow to open and in force quit "Photoshop not responding" At this point should I uninstall and start over.
What are the performance Preferences?

Allow help desk to manage open files on file server
I am looking to delegate the ability to manage open files to our help desk users. They are getting an increasing number of calls from users asking about files and who has them open, or to force close them..etc.
The help desk users are not admins on our file server, therefore do not have access to RDP to the file server. I was hoping they could do it from computer management RSAT tools on their local machine. I just don't know how to allow them to do
it.

Since they are not able to RDP the FS then they should need to access files using shared folders.
For that, you will need to share the root folder where your files are. Please give Full Control permission on it. Here, to manage their permissions, you can grant them what you want using NTFS permissions.
Note that NTFS and Share permissions are combined and the user will be have the minimum of privileges when he access the folder as a share. For that, I recommended using FC permission on the shared folder to avoid additional management tasks.
