Help opening a Photoshop file

Hi Everyone
I have a large photoshop file 1GB that I have been working on. It was working fine, until yesterday, then when I tried to open it, it says "could not complete your request because of a program error".
I have tried to place it in Indesign, Illustrator, convert it to PDF, but no luck.
Any help would be appreciated. If there are any Freeware programs that might help if required would also be an advantage.

Try XnView (PC) or Graphics Converter/ Grafikkonverter (Mac). If the file was saved correctly, you might at least be able to extract a flattend version this way and safe it to a different format. There's a couple of other tools that can load and write layered PSDs such as various of the Corel Tools (Painter for instance), but they don't support any advanced features introduced over the years, so you may loose info, even if the file opens.

When opening a Photoshop file fthrough Bridge, how can I control which version of Photoshop the file will open in?
I store my PSD files adjacent to the original RAW file from which it was derived.
If I open the file folder and double click on that PSD file, it opens in CS6. But,if I use Bridge (CS6) to navigate to and open the same file, it first opens Photoshop CS5 and then opens that PSD file in CS5.
How can I control which Photoshop will open a file I select when opening it through Bridge?.

Interesting, but it doesn't give a clue what I'm supposed to do. No Photoshop ducuments listed.
Look at the PSD file on the location Curt provided and search for Photoshop Document. Next to it ideally should show Adobe Photoshop CS6 if you have Bridge CS6 open. Click on it to provide the fly out menu and choose the correct Photoshop from the list.
But probably something went wrong with your install. By default Bridge chooses the latest version of PS to open its file in.
Maybe a reset of the preferences might also help you. Can you provide more details about OS version etc.
And do you have a good reason for keeping your Raw and finished files in the same location. Personally I keep them apart and use a proper file name convention (yyyymmdd and details) so I can easily search for the DNG files in my archive if I needed them but I don't make mistakes in opening the wrong one

I can no longer open PSD Photoshop files on Preview

I can no longer open PSD Photoshop files on Preview since I installed Snow Leopard on my White MacBook. Whenever I double click a PSD file, it opens in Photoshop.
I used to force PSD files to be opened with Preview by "Get Info" (command + I ) and then Changing the option "open with" to Preview.
I also tried draggin the PSD file onto Preview, nothing happened.
Did Snow Leopard stop PSD support, or I'm missing something??

No, I can still open psd files in Preview, no problem, from both Preview's "Open" dialog and by drag 'n drop onto its icon. It opens simple psd files without error, files with an alpha channel may or may not open correctly, layers will display the topmost layer, if that layer has a mask it displays incorrectly. In short, nothing seems to have changed.

Need help opening a pdf file

How can I get help opening a pdf file? I have been asking for help for over an hour now, I need this file, it is password protected,
and I have set a new password, with still no help, still can't get the file to open, just what do I need to do, it is my 2011 tax return,and
I need to have it. I hope someone cares enough to help me with this. I am so frustrated at this point, I just don't know where to turn now.

Who password-protected that file?

Opening/exporting Photoshop files in preview

I have been relying on Preview to open my Photoshop files, scale them down, and save out as PNG for my web workflow. Preview scales images beautifully and much better than PS' (CS3) Save for Web command.
This workflow is now bust in Lion, as I've just discovered I cannot export to PNG when I have a PS file open, even if it allows that when it has for instance an JPEG open. What gives? I can export as TIFF, with Alpha, but also if I reopen that TIFF file, PNG is still not an allowed format if I try to export. Hopeless!
Has anybody found a workaround for this, or has any other sugestion?

do a spotlight search for Preview. can you find it? it should be in the main Applications folder at the top level of the hard drive. if you can't find it you can reinstall it from the leopard install DVD using Pacifist

Color error message when opening a photoshop file in Illustrator

I have a photo of the airport, with blue sky etc. I would like to make it all one color as a background image. I want the background of the photo to be light orange wit the building to be darker orange. Is there a way to do that in Illustrator? To try out different colors foreground and background or do I have to do it in Photoshop? How do I fill all the colors in the photo to just the two colors? This photo is untouched.
I also have a photo that has photoshop effects. When I open it in Illustrator I get an error message. It says "the document's embedded color profile does not match the current CMYK working space. The current CMYK color management policy is to discard profiels that do not match the working space.
I have the start of a web page in my working space. With this photo I think I am opening it in a separate page but it won't let me. I probably will use the untouched photo but I'm curious why its giving me the message. My workspace should be in RGB web safe colors. Is that why it won't let me open the CMYK photoshop file? I guess it has non-web safe colors but my thought was to change it to all web safe colors but maybe that is way too hard in Illustrator?

You can color a grayscale tiff in Illustrator by simply selecting it then selecting a color you want.
I would think if these are two spot colors and you really want two different oranges you would want to clip the building either in
Photoshop or Illustrator and place it on top of one another.
I would normally say do a duo tone but that would mix the two colors.
So this is how i would go about it in Illustrator
1. Import the image as a grayscale tiff or import it and convert it to a grayscale by going to Edit>Edit Colors>Convert to Grayscale
2. then select the background color.
3. then copy the image and paste in front Command C and then Command F and select the darker orange color
4. with the pen tool create an a path that is the shape of the building exactly. Make sure it is a closed path.
5. then select the path and the top image the one you paste in front.
6. then go to Object>Clipping Path>Make
7 I would then group the two
with this method you have to good with the pen tool, but that is true of Illustrator in general.
now with the CMYK image it is allowing you to place it but is simply warning you of the conversion taking place.
What you should do is select in your Photoshop and Illustrator color settings to sRGB since this is probably the space you want.
and convert the CMYK into a RGB file which is what you should have done in the first place.
So open it i Photoshop convert to sRGB and replace it in Illustrator.
All should be fine.

Need Help Opening a Corrupted File in MS Office Word 2007.

I use Microsoft Office Word 2007. I need help in opening a corrupted file. I tried to open but am getting messages: "cannot be opened", "unreadable content", "do you want to recover contents?" "Do you want to search
for a converter?"
Anyone have any ideas on how I can get this file to open? :/

Help opening a .wps file on my macbook...

i just recently got a macbook, and i love it, but am still new to it.
i have some word documents on my external hard drive that are saved from my old windows based computer that i would like to open on my mac as the windows computer doesnt work any more.
any help with this would be appreciated.

Help opening a .mat file

Hi,
I am new to labview and need some assistance trying to open a .mat file for further analysis (example file attached). The file formate is level 5 and I believe the data is in arrays. I do not have access to confirm the structure but have been told the layout of the data i need to access follows the following structure: MotionFile_walkaround -> Actor_50_human -> Segments -> Sacrum -> Pose.
I have successfully read the header and found that byte swapping is required. I have downloaded the Mat-File IO library but have had no success in reading the actual data set beyond the header but assume this is due to my inexperience with both .mat files and labview.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When reading your .mat file, created in The MathWorks, Inc. MATLAB® software, I recommend using the MATLAB® DataPlugin found here:

Then, you can use the Data File Viewer function to view all of the data in your file. Any data that can be seen in the Data File Viewer can then be extracted using the Data Storage API. I looked through the file you provided and was able to view and extract the data contained in the file using the Data Storage API so it should work fine for you.

I can't open some photoshop files it says "The command "Set" is not currently available."

What does this mean and how can I fix it? A corworker will make a photoshop file (Poster for example) and when i try to open it on my computer it wont open and says "The command “Set” is not currently available." What does this mean and how can I fix it? Thanks!

You are running some sort of automation when you open files - because that error message comes from automation (actions, scripts or plugins) that are trying to target something that isn't there.
Event Scripts was the obvious choice.
Automation plugins, or Flash Panels are the next most obvious -- try disabling all third party plugins and Flash Panels.
The error might come from Generator, if you have the latest Photoshop CC.

Problem opening old Photoshop Files

I am in CS6, OSx 10.8.3.
I have some old photoshop files, tif, psd, jog, etc. on a CD. When I try to open them, I get an error-108 and the file disappears from the finder. I have tried to copy to the hard drive, but I get an operation cant be completed, one or more items cant be fournd error-43.
Any ideas?

I suggest trying to read the CD in a different drive.
CDs do degrade over time.

Need help opening old Appleworks file

Hi all I have been searching the forums and seem to come up with well lets say I'm screwed,,,I am trying to help out my uncle who had a mac back in the day and had made some what appears to be some appleworks documents that I cant open,the documents are on floppies which I was able to pull some pictures off and convert them to .jpeg's but I cant open the other files,,,I have tried OpenOffice and Office for Macs but no luck,,,can anyone help with this or tell me how to do this,,I'm not real good with Macs seeing i've been only using one for 6mths ,,,,

You could use AppleWorks 6 in OS X or AppleWorks 5 in Classic to open the files. You could try eBay and do a search for "AppleWorks" or "Apple Works" (some people put a "space" in the name). Hardcore Mac sells AppleWorks 6.2.4.
If there are just a few files (less than 10), you can e-mail them to me & I will convert them (to text, Word, Excel, PDF) & send them back.
