Help: Opening an old project in CC

Hi all
I have a simple question really. I'd like to open an old project, which was created in a version prior to CS3 on Windows, in the new premiere CC, now running on a Mac. It's not letting me. I get the following error:
'This project was saved in a version prior to Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 and cannot be opened on a Mac'
I'd basically like to open the project (.prproj), and export as a final cut xml (fcpxml). Can somebody point me in the right direction? I've been searching online for days but can't seem to find a solution.
Thanks in advanced
S.

Hey guys.
Thanks for the advice so far. I got it slightly wrong, I'm trying to open a .ppj file (so it's even older than I thought) and Premiere CC won't open these. It's not even a supported file type. I've read online that some people can just rename it to a .prproj and it will work, but not in my case. Does anybody have an old version of Premiere that can open .ppj files that is willing to open it for me, and just export it as a final cut xml. Or if there is another solution, I'd be more than happy to try it.
Thanks
Sotiris.

I just opened an "old" project in a newer version of iPhoto and the pages in the book doubled in number with the seam in the middle of each page.  Suggestions?

    Start with Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file delete the contents the following folder:
    User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.
If that doesn't help continue with:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
    2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • In Premiere CS5, I opened an old project I had edited using Premiere CS3 and now its all pixelated!

Hi everyone. I just got Premiere Pro CS5 and started the program and opened up an old project I had edited using Premiere Pro CS3. Premiere Pro CS5 said it had to convert the project for editing in CS5. I clicked "okay" and the project opened up in CS5. Now, when I play the project on the timeline, everything has some pixelation! The footage was nice and sharp without any artifacts when I edited in Premiere Pro CS3. How do I get rid of this pixelation in CS5 so the footage looks like it is supposed to?! Thanks.

Well, there's really no rationale for the project conversion to somehow drastically alter the appearance of footage, particularly something like DVCPROHD. Adobe changed the way its software handles pixel aspect ratios between CS3 and CS4, but that affects SD footage, not HD footage. There may be some degree of weirdness since in CS3, you had a project that was set to a specific format/frame rate/codec/whatever, whereas in CS4 and later the project is just a container for sequences of any and all types.
Instead of opening the original project and going through the conversion, try creating a new project and importing the old project as if it were any other media file. Premiere will reconstruct the old project within the new one; this probably is not going to have any change, but it's worth a shot.
Can you describe (or better, show) the pixelation you're referring to? It's hard to visualize without, well, a visual, and that might help better pinpoint the issue. Also, is the pixelation only during playback, or is while the clip is paused in the sequence, as well?

  • Need help opening really old FreeHand files

I have some very old FreeHand files, I'm not sure what
version but probably around v.5 or so. I have all the source files
and fonts and I'd like to reconstruct FreeHand files in version 10
or even 9 if possible. Problem is I can't open the old FreeHand
files through the menu options or by dragging the files onto the
    app icons.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I downloaded FreeHand BNDL
Resources from FreeHandSource.com a while back but they didn't seem
to do anything. Any help is appreciated.

Are you on a Mac? If your version of Freehand can open the
    version the
file was saved as you can open the file by dragging it to the
application icon while holding down the option and apple
    keys.

Is your problem that have these VIs in your block diagram, but you can not find them in your palette? Then is is not a problem . They have to come from somewhere on your disk.  It is a simple task to edit your palettes

Besides which, my opinion is that Express VIs Carthage must be destroyed deleted

  • Need help opening an old file

I have some files that go back to a database application called Microsoft File which has long since stopped being supported by Microsoft. Is there a utility that might be able to open these old files?

I think this is a database app that ran under system 8.

  • Yesterday Encore worked fine today it will not open any old project more than 13% before crashing.

A project i create today with no content will work fine and a project i create today with a dynamic link will work fine any ideas why this won't work?

What is your source for the acx file? I don't understand the question?
Encore project files do not use an xml structure. Just curious.
I got it from the folder of the encore project
What happens if you start the project over? New projects work fine
Encore sometimes requires a do over. If simpler methods (delete preferences file) does not do the trick, you can temporarily rename/move the transcodes one at a time (if transcoded; the PR project if not), use "skip"  when prompted for missing things, to see if that allows you to open. Also, recreating it and seeing if the problem recurs may help you understand where the problem is. You can copy the Encore project file and directories as a backup (since you can't use save-as).
how do i delete the preferences file? also this is happening on ALL of my older projects so i think the problem is with Encore and not to the project.
Can you get all the DLs in? DL? do you mean dynamic link?
Yes, can you get all the DLs into a new project?

  • Can I open my old project from logic 8 in logic 9?

  • Opening an old project with i-movie

I've saved my project into an external HDD. After reinstalling the new Mac OSX 1.4.3 I restored the project. Now when I try to open it i-move tell me:
Documents not assigned and it show me the list of all the clips. What have I to do ? I've tried to restore but the message is the same. I've tried to drag and drop the single clip but it show me the message: to large than 2 Gb, use QT to make a smaller file.
    Thank you
    Best regards
    Power Book G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

You can split the video into <9 min 27 sec chunks which iMovie 1-4 can import with QT Player Pro:
Open the big clip and move the slider to the very beginning of it. Press Shift and move the slider about 9 min forward to make a selection. Choose Edit/Cut. Open a new player and choose Edit/Paste. Export as PAL or NTSC DV stream with 48 kHz audio (I guess save as reference movies would also be OK and a lot faster). Repeat. Then import the smaller segments into iMovie.
Oak Street Software has an AppleScript that can do the splitting automatically but unfortunately QT 7 broke it.
iMovie 5 can import big clips so this isn't necessary with it.
See also (I haven't yet tried the SW mentioned in the last link -- at least one of them works in QT 5):

  • I upgraded to 10.3 and tried to open an old project from 10.0 there are empty clips in the timeline and I've imported media to the library

I get this msg when I try to relink my media files.  Im lost because I have not changed any formats or where the files are located.
83 name matches were found, but 83 files are not compatible.
Relinked files must have the same media type and similar audio channels as the original files, and must be long enough to cover all the clips that reference the files.
Select a single item at a time to get information about why it is not compatible.

    Hi emeraldcleopatra,
Why not mimic the settings you have for your 12" iBook that connects, trying the same for the one that doesn't and checking each setting that you have played around with.
    See if that works.

  • Motion won't open new project, won't open utility window in old project

When I try to open Motion from the dock, it gives the license information, but no project opens...it just stays with that opening window.
When I try to open an old project, there is no utility window (no file browser, library, or inspector).
    Help!

I tried to do that before, but I couldn't find that plist on the Macintosh HD icon. As per your instructions, I later found that plist file in my home (i.e. 'user') folder.
Works now! Thanks for your help!

I would encourage you to do
    uninstall (usually Control Panel/Programs way)
free ccleaner run through (regular cleaner and registry cleaner parts)
    CCleaner - Download
Reinstall with antivirus and firewall(s) disabled
Before you do that I would ask that you go through a typical troubleshooting drill
    a. Are you working from the 8.0.1 Update of the program?
    b. Do you have the automatic Background Rendering and AutoAnalzyer features disabled?
    c. Have you looked at the problem with and without the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
    d. Do you have the latest version of QuickTime Installed on your computer with Premiere Elements?
    e. Are you running the program from a User Account with Administrative Privileges?
When was the last time that the program worked without this issue? In other words, is this a
"it worked before but not now" or "it never worked before" issue.
Please review and consider and then we can decide what next.
    Thank you.

  • Problems with iMovie 6.0.3 corrupting old projects?

    Hi everyone
This is my first post, and I have a very big problem which I hope you can help me with.
In a nutshell, ever since installing iMovie 6.0.3 I have had some very strange problems with opening certain old projects. On opening a project I get the standard "this is an old project, do you want to convert" message, and then a number of things happen. Either iMovie opens with absolutely nothing in the Clips pane or the timeline (and this is in a project with several gigabytes of clips); or, a couple of random clips appear in the trash, but nothing else; and/or, I get a blank project which seems to be in NTSC format, whereas all my projects are in PAL.
All the original clips are there in the Media folder, but are not recognised if I try to import them (Error during import; Quicktime couldn't parse it: -199).
I have tried re-installing both iMovie 4 and 5, but no joy. So, I can't open the 'bad' projects in either the old iMovie formats or the new one. The wierd thing is that some (newer) projects do work.
Following some old threads here I have tried using Lennart's File Fixer - didn't help. Also tried moving the .mov file and opening project. Again, didn't help.
Sooo...any ideas? I am really desperate! The old files are there, it's just that nothing seems to be able to read them.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Can I rescue this old project?

When I managed to get an old external drive up and running I discovered an old unfinished project (dated August 2002) about my trip to Italy. I had thought I had lost this project. Naturally I want to rescue and complete this iMovie project now. I am now using imovie HD 6, but have access to all the old iMoive versions (including for old classic Mac OS).
When I tried to open this old project in iMovie classic version, I got a long series of messages for clips saying, " Something is wrong with scoreboard pluggin etc" and then another long series of messages like, "Can't open the centered title 02; skipping it" etc. etc. Nothing opens. Is the problem that I am running Mac OS 10.4.5 and classic does not work? Other ideas about what is causing this problem? Is there any hope of coming up with solution?
    Thanks in advance,
    Nancy

Was the old project created in Mac OS 9 or in Classic? (Classic is Mac OS 9 running inside Mac OS X, but some versions of iMovie ran in REAL Mac OS 9, after booting the computer in Mac OS 9.)
If it was created in Mac OS 9, try rebooting your computer in 9 and editing it with the version of iMovie you used there.
You might want to make a backup of the project before doing anything, however.
If you strike out, look inside the old iMovie project folder. If it contains a movie file with the same name as the project, double-click on it. If it opens in QuickTime Player it can be exported to a new iMovie HD 6 project. Everything on the timeline of the original project will arrive as a single clip in iMovie 6, and play in the proper order.
Trying to CONVERT very old projects like this to iMovie 6 can be problematic, so it's better to find another way. Importing the video is usually better.
