  • "SignalNthResponder(): error code not reset" upon opening Indesign CS2 Debug

I've been using InDesign CS2 Debug (with IDCS2_Updater_Roman_Debug_2.exe file version 4.1.100.1332 applied) on Windows XP for several months with no problems, but lately I've been getting the following sequence of errors upon opening InDesign, which causes InDesign to shutdown. It also occurs before code flow even reaches the constructor for my plug-in so I have no idea what is causing it.
    1. (ASSERT) SignalMgr::SignalNthResponder(): error code not reset
    2. (ASSERT) Putting up an alert when the global error state is not kSuccess can cause crashes if a command is fired while the alert is up! Try moving call to ErrorUtils::PMSetGlobalErrorCode(kSuccess) to before call to CAlert::ErrorAlert.
    3. (Adobe InDesign) Adobe InDesign is shutting down. A serious error was detected. Please restart InDesign to recover work in any unsaved InDesign documents.
    4. (ASSERT) ProtectiveShutdown - Debugger break
    5. Then it shuts down.
But of course restarting InDesign only repeats these messages. Restarting the computer does nothing to help. The only way I have found to alleviate the problem is to uninstall and reinstall InDesign Debug. But then after using InDesign Debug for a couple of days without problems, this sequence reappears. Anyone know how to end this vicious cycle?
    Thanks,
    Miles

  • Opening Indesign CS2 files In CS4

    Hi everyone,
I have just started using Indesign CS4 for work but found that it is mostly a waste of time as most clients send me documents made with older versions of Indesign which i just cant open with CS4. Is there anyway around this using the standard software or are then any plugin's that will do the job for me?
    Thanks in advance,
    Loki

Hmm...very odd. I simply get the old "this
file is not compatible" error come up when ever i try to open CS2. CS3 seems ok but not tried anythng older yet. I thought it seemed a little weird not opening, I guess that who ever was doing the job before me just screwed it up some how. :/   guess i have a few hours of system cleaning tomorrow ahead of me, if anyone can think of anything they could have done to stop it working i would be greatful for the advice if nto ill just try a re-install.
No worrys about the clients not being able to reopen the file Ill be sending it strait to the presses once finished.

  • Need help with InDesign CS2 table

How do you add multiple cells vertically to 1 row in a table? When I try to do this it add cells to the entire table. When I try to adjust them by clicking and dragging right or left, it moves all the other cells. I am using IDCS2

CS2 is a little primitive, but put your cursor in the cell you want to divide, then Table > Split Cell Vertically (or horizontally), which will divide it in half. Repeat as necessary. To adjust the dimensions of the split cells over the text tool over a divider until you see the double-headed arrow, then press the Shift key while dragging the divider.

  • Indesign CS2 will not open

When attempting to open Indesign CS2 I receive an error message:"Abobe Indesign is missing required system fonts or /Cmap files. Please reinstall Indesign." I have reinstalled Indesign once and the entire Crative Suite once and still get the same error message. I have a Toshiba laptop model M55-S3262 with 1.5GB of RAM the operating system is Windows XP Professional.

If you search this forum for that error phrase you should find an old, and very long, thread devoted to this problem. The thread includes a link which may still work to a posting of a package of the require fonts and cmap files that you can download and copy into your system.

  • Help!  How do I get into my InDesign CS2 files?

The other day I tried to open my InDesign files and I got an error message that said "Adobe InDesign is shutting down.  A serious error was detected.  Please restart InDesign to recover any unsaved InDesign documents."
It happens each time I try an open the program.  I press the "ok" button and the program closes but nothing changes.  I've even restarted my computer several times.
Can someone help me?  In Design is holding my files hostage!
I called customer service and they can not give me any technical assistance because I have CS2 and the current version is CS4.  I was told that the forum is my only hope.
    Any help is appreciated.

I've saved the file before by opening it on a different computer and exporting to .inx, but I've no idea what was going on withthe files. It's something that hasn't happened to me since CS2 (fingers crossed), but it usually involved cleaning out the libraries

  • InDesign CS2 won't open: error msg states "Please install the MetaData plug-in and restart"

I'm unable to open my InDesign CS2 program, and am wondering if anyone has any suggestions for me. When I try to open it, I get an error message stating: "Cannot load Adobe InDesign CS2 because it requires MetaData. Please install the MetaData plug-in and restart Adobe InDesign."
It worked just fine last week - I have no idea what happened this week... (other than my 3-yr-old 'playing' with my computer...) I am able to open other CS2 programs like Illustrator and Photoshop. Any ideas for me??

Try trashing your preferences: Hold down Shift + Control + Option + Command immediately after launch. You'll get a dialog asking if you want to delete your preferences. If no dialog comes up you didn't do it fast enough.

  • Can't open Pagemaker files in InDesign Cs2

In the past i could usually open any Pagemaker 6 or 6.5 file in InDesign CS2. However this doesn't work anymore. I get a message o the screen telling me the file is corrupt and can't be opened. ( i can't really post the original message i get as it is in german).
This happens for any Pagemaker 6 or 6.5 file i have in my repository (and there are still many left so i had tried several ones from different dates and PM Versions)
As a first aid I tried to reinstall InDesign CS2 from the original discs. I uninstalledit before and did a restart of the Machine before i reinstalled it.
I use a Windows XP baesed system.
Does anyone have any idea on what i could try to get that back to work?

  • Suddenly getting "Missing Plug-Ins" errors when opening .indd files in InDesign CS2

I have a PC running Windows 7 and InDesign CS2. The laptop's installation of Windows was corrupted and I had to re-install the OS. I backed up all files, reinstalled the OS, and then reinstalled applications. One of those applications was InDesign CS2. However, after the installation of CS2 on the fresh copy of Windows, I noticed that I have trouble opening most, but not all, of the InDesign files on my hard drive.
When I try to open a .indd file I see an error message pop up that says "Missing Plug-ins. LILO.APLN, DYNAMICDOCUMENTS.RPLN, CONDITIONALTEXT.RPLN" and three more. Under that list of missing plugins is the warning "This document uses one or more plug-ins which are not currently available on your system. Do you want to open anyway?"  If I click "okay" I then am met with another dialog box that says "Cannot open file. TEXT.RPLN, LAYER.RPLN" and on and on for about 60 more items.
I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE THINKING! I've searched around concerning this issue and it appears the consensus is that the file was opened by a newer version of InDesign. That possibility is, in fact, an impossibility. Never have I used a newer version of InDesign. The files that I am working on were backed up, stored on local storage and not touched once before reinstalling the OS and reinstalling InDesign CS2.
I also noticed that not all InDesign file formats were associated with InDesign in "Windows Programs and Defaults." I changed those to look to InDesign. I've also uninstalled InDesign CS2 and re-installed.
Not all InDesign CS2 files are exhibiting this behavior. So far, it appears more than half are, but some can be opened with no problems. There seems to be no correlation between which ones are able to be opened and which ones can't be opened.
What could have happened to these files and is there any possibility of opened them again? Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Conditional Text was a new feature in CS4. I'm thinking, can you explain how your old CS2 documents became aware of it?
    Not exactly sure myself. Abiogenesis?
    [Edit]
Almost forgot. I wrote a script to unequivocally determine the InDesign version a document was last saved as:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4071273
I'll give that a try today. Even an affirmative judgement that the files are newer than CS2 would not impress me however. The fact remains, the files were copied off one hard drive over to another, the plug was pulled on the hard drive, the PC was re-imaged, CS2 was reinstalled, the files were copied back over... and whammo.

  • CS3 InDesign won't open a CS2 In Design .INX file

CS3 InDesign won't open a CS2 In Design .INX file.
I sent my graphic designer an .INX file created on CS2
and he got an error message and said he could not open.
He said it is not possible.
He lost the job - because he didn't want to investigate further.
I can't imagine ADOBE leaving this problem unsolved!
    What do I do??

I don't recall that. I can visualise the situation, but then I would expect it to create the same lost feature problems as encountered in opening with an earlier version. So there would still be a risk that the file would lose something in translation.
And then again, if a CS2 plug-in has been used and is required to open the file, I would expect the translation into XML to ignore anything that can't be translated, and for the depleted file still to open in CS3.

  • Error Message Opening PageMaker file in InDesign CS2

I'm using Windows Vista with Adobe CS2, the educational version.
When I try to open any previous Pagemaker files 6.5 and earlier, I get an error message that says the Pagemaker file is seriously damaged and cannot be opened. It happens with all PageMaker files I try to open.
This is a new HP computer and I used to have PageMaker 6.5 and InDesign CS 1.5 working fine on the old computer. Do I have to have PageMaker installed on this computer? I've tried clicking on the file to open it and from Indesign with file open. Any ideas?!

Since installing XP SP3 in addition to being unable to open Pagemaker 7 files in Indesign CS I now find I cannot open Indesign again if I close it. I have to reboot XP for a fresh start.
Also Illustrator CS opens only to present a box "Could not complete operation" and then closes. There are no problems then in opening it a second time, except it takes the usual significant time to start.
Are these symptoms of the same problem with SP3 and the Adobe software. It is disappointing to see people say neither Adobe or Redmond are at all interested.

  • 10.4.6 + InDesign CS2 =  Total Disaster.  PLEASE HELP.

After installing 10.4.6 my Adobe InDesign CS2 no longer works. It crashes every time I start it up. I've repaired permissions, cleared caches and troubleshooted the system fonts folder. No luck. PLEASE HELP. I'm missing deadlines, losing money and sweating bullets.
I can't believe Apple wouldn't test this update on all Adobe Design Apps and end up alienating their core audience. Shocking.
Any advice or fix for this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    G5 Dual Core 2.3   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

The one thing you should have done was create a clone of your system hard drive on a firewire external disk, then you could have booted from that and kept working then returned to deal with the 10.4.6 problems later when deadlines aren't looming. Remember that for next time.
There should be no problem running IDCS2 in 10.4.6, something else is wrong. Get Disk Warrior and run repairs.
If necessary do an Archive and Install of Tiger, then a full update to 10.4.6 (Repairing Permissions before and after everything), then reinstall InDesign (test InDesign after the Archive and Install first, it might be fixed just from that). This is practically a sure thing so if deadlines are getting tight you might just want to go right for this instead of messing around with other fixes first.
And whatever you do get an external firewire drive and SuperDuper! and make a clone of your drive so everything is backed up and you always have a fail-safe system to fall back on.

InDesign can't open FreeHand files, regrdless of the
    extension. For edit=
ing or even opening fh11 file you'll need FreeHand.
    Illustrator, however=

You can extract some elements, export as eps or pdf, etc.

You can of course use 30 day demo of FreeHand for editing.

  • Opening PageMaker 7.0 docs in InDesign CS2

I want to open PageMaker 7.0 documents in InDesign CS2. InDesign gives an error message "The Pagemaker document is damaged and cannot be recovered" but the document open perfectly well in Pagemaker.
    Any suggestions?

Try using the Save As command in PageMaker. It will rebuild the file, ideally eliminating potencial causes of conflicts that PM can handle but ID can't.
Another suggestion is to split the PM file in smaller ones. This not only will make the files more digestible for ID, but will also serve as a diagnostic procedure: the files that ID won't open are the ones that have whatever ID is complaining about. In this case, you can pinpoint where the problem lies (maybe embedded images or stray elements in PM) and try to correct it.

  • Opening InDesign CS4 Files in InDesign CS2?

This is a long-shot, but does anyone know if it is possible to open files created or modified in the current version of InDesign in the much older CS2 version of the application? The files need to be fully editable in InDesign CS2.

    Keep in mind, though, that
    1) Three versions are involved here. The CS4 user needs CS3 so he/she can save to INX twice.
    2) Usages of features available in CS4 and CS3 but not available in CS2 will come out fairly well messed up once you get the file into CS2.
    3) Line wrap in CS2 will not match line wrap in CS4 or CS3 exactly. Adobe has tweaked the H&J engine through both upgrades.
Don't count on roundtripping your document without a lot of work. If you need to roundtrip, you're going to be better off either upgrading to CS4 or keeping the document in one version or the other and marking corrections through PDF.
