Help opening PDF file

I purchased a ticket on line and saved the file to my desktop to print at a later date, however, I am not able to open the file.  I get the following message:  "Ticket_40f6d0fd-1b68-4af8-8b1a-94458395fb71_517107_4.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."  Does anyone know what I need to do to open the file.  Thanks.

Thank you very much for your reply.   I am using a MacBook Pro.  I don't know how to tell the version of the reader but it is a new laptop and I am new to adobe reader.

    Here's a detailed explanation:
    - Create a dropdown list with your 4 categories as the text values
    - Go to the binding tab and check the checkbox that says "Specify Item
Values". You will see your four categories and they each will have been
assigned a number (0, 1, 2, 3). Change these number values to be the
URL to the PDF that you want each category to be associated with.
    - Add a 'change' event to your dropdown list. Select Javascript as the
scripting language. Put the following code in your change event:
    var selectedText = xfa.event.newText;
    var redirectURL = this.boundItem(selectedText);
    xfa.host.gotoURL(redirectURL);
    Hope this helps!

  • Need help opening pdf files

I have a cd, which I have had for several years, and was able to use until the last year.  Suddenly, Adobe Reader (I have tried several versions, updates, fixes, whatever!) says that each and every pdf file on the disk is damaged.
This is a cd that used to be able to start up on its own, and had various menus to get to the final pdf pages.  I cannot open the files through windows explorer, nor by going through the menus.  Each time, the error message tells me the file(s) was damaged because it was sent via e-mail or some other method that caused the files to be damaged.  The problem with that is that the files and the cd were never altered, as the cd is not a rewritable one.  It is also not pirated, if anyone is going to ask that question.
The cd is a manual for my vehicle.  It has a parts manual, and a workshop manual along with other items.  When the cd is put into the drive, it starts automatically, but cannot get a single file open.  I have tried this in two different systems, and I get the same results.  The strange thing is that I have files made under earlier Reader versions that still work.  So why not this one, and why isn't someone at Adobe available to help me straighten this out?  Shame on them!

I am facing the similar problem. Not able to open some PDFs. Was able to open till 2-3 months back. Did some analysis that not able to open the files created with version older the 9.0 of Adobe Reader. Also tried to open the same PDFs in my colleagues' Laptops and my home PC. No Success.
    NEED SERIOUS ATTENTION FROM ADOBE.
You are in a user to user forum. If you want attention from Adobe, you'll have to contact Adobe and pay for the attention, as they don't provide free attention for problems related with the free Reader.
Adobe Reader cannot create PDF files, only open (read) them. If you cannot open some PDFs from within Reader in your machine and others, most probably they are damaged. Are you receiving any error messages when you try to open them? "Not able to open" doesn't say much, really.

  • Need help opening pdf file created in japanese adobe

I have Adobe Reader 9. Acolleague just sent me a document that was created in a Japanese version of adobe. It is still a pdf file, but I cannot open it. I get a message saying some components needed to complete thte operation are missing, and would I like to go to the Adobe page on the web to look for them? If I say yes it takes me to the Adobe page, but I can't find anything obvious to add.
In the file's properties, it said the application is [some japanese characters]v1.12Rev0480

Maybe you need to download and install the Japanese font pack from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3979 (Windows)

  • Help opening PDF files using Adobe Reader

I just downloaded the latest version of Adobe Reader on my Mac, and now whenever I try and open a PDF file, a message pops up saying "Before viewing PDF documents in this browser, you must launch Adobe Reader and accept the End User License Agreement, the Quit and relaunch the browser."  How do I launch Adobe Reader and accept this End User License Agreement??

Just open the Adobe Reader application (not in the browser!) and accept the EULA.

  • Can't open pdf files from sites as shown in troubleshooting info but it works OK in IExplorer. Help, please

I can no longer open pdf files when clicking on a link such as: shown in troubleshooting info.
It used to work on earlier version when I had XP, now I'm Win7Pro and using version 5.0.1 The links work fine with Internet Explorer. Help, please.

Type in '''about:plugins''' into the location bar and press "Enter", at the the top is a line for plug-ins test pointing to [http://www.mozilla.com/plugincheck/ mozilla.com/plugincheck/]
You should have Version: 10.1.0.534 for adobe acrobat but you have two older versions instead. If the one does not replace both you may have to disable the really old one, or remove through the control panel.

The pdf is loading as html code. If you save it, it will download as :
    605124.pdf.html
    Change the extension to .pdf
And it opens and works perfectly, I just tested it:
Use this link to download it automatically:

  • What can I do to rectify the situation in which Firefox will not open pdf files in the browser, even though I have already used all the help suggestions to no avail?

I have tried everything Mozilla has suggested. Still when I click on a pdf, I get the message that the browser cannot open a pdf. I have gone through the help protocol, and it does not work.
I have uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it, and still not able to open pdf files within the browser.
What else do I do, except go to IE or Chrome and just leave Firefox completely???

A possible cause is the presence of a PDF plugin from an older Adobe Reader plugin in the plugins folder in the Firefox program folder.

  • I've tried all the advice on the Firefox Help site, but I still can't download anything. Yesterday, I was able to download and open PDF files fine. Today... no.

While I was working on my Mac last night, I got a message that I needed to download an Adobe (I think an Acrobat X Pro) update. I did. That seems to be the time when I started having problems. Now I can't use the uninstaller for the program. I think that may be the problem, but my ability to fix it stops here.
I'm usually more discerning about updates, etc, but I was working on a project and the flashing updater was bothering me, so I hit yes, not really looking at the app I was updating. Ugh. My mistake.

    Hi hobanny,
Have you looked at the [[Opening PDF files within Firefox]] Knowledge Base article? There is a lot of useful information in there. It actually lists two different plugins to try for opening PDF files. I'd try both of them just to be safe.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Can no longer open PDF files in Safari 7 using Mavericks - help??

I cannot open PDF files on my iMac - not sure why - I am using  Safari 7 & have downloaded Mavericks - it says I have to launch Acrobat 8 and agree to terms (or some such thing) Please help.  How do you make Reader 9 the default for opening pdf's?   Help?

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
    Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
    Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • This is actually a FF 4 RC question...but I can no longer open PDF files...the page just goes blank. No option in applications to set a PDF viewer as default. Help!

How do you open PDF files in FF4 RC? The application section in options doesn't have PDF as an option to associate with a program. Whenever I click on a PDF file, I just get a blank tab.

    Hi there,
You're running an old version of Safari. Before troubleshooting, try updating it to the latest version: 6.0. You can do this by clicking the Apple logo in the top left, then clicking Software update.
You can also update to the latest version of OS X, 10.8 Mountain Lion, from the Mac App Store for $19.99, which will automatically install Safari 6 as well, but this isn't essential, only reccomended.
Thanks, let me know if the update helps,
    Nathan

  • Help - "Acrobat is being used by another application and cannot open PDF files until the other application is closed."

    Hello,
I searched this site and google for this error terminology and come up dry.  I support a user who has been for years using Acrobat 5 (yes, I know...) to read files in a client DB program, as well as other PDF files on their PC.  In the last week or so, they have started gatting this error "Acrobat is being used by another application and cannot open PDF files until the other application is closed." any time they attempt to open a PDF file attached to an email (via Outlook).
It is my understanding that they cannot upgrade to a newer version of Acrobat because of limitations of their client software, but had not previously had any issues viewing PDF notes from the DB, and PDF attachments in their email.
I have tried uninstalling and re-installing, as well as tried using Adobe Reader 7 & 9 in conjunction with Acrobat to try to get around this issue, but have not been successful.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jesse

I don't have an answer to your technical problem. The product I assume is Acrobat that you are talking about (based on the post title), Adobe is the company name. This is a good place to ask questions on Acrobat if folks can figure out what you are talking about. They will ask for the product version number (like AA9.3.3), operating system, and other applications if appropriate. Also, just what you are doing that generates the message.
As for Adobe, you are not likely to get an answer from them here in the user forum. You will be lucky if you can get an answer if you can contact them and not be on hold for more than an hour (sorry, this is why a lot of folks end up in the forum).
So, to help others try to answer your question, what are the products and versions involved? What OS? What are you doing when the message comes up.

    Hi Eidda,
This may because the attachment is a winmail.dat file. I would recommend taking a look at the article below for more information. Note: the article is written for OS X mail, but does also apply to this situation.
