HELP!!! OS X only starts in "Darwin 7.0"

Helo thank you in advance to anyone that helps me
my iBook messes up when i turn it on it will load up fine untill it gets to the login screen and then it will not let me type any thing and the Darwinl loads. when Darwin loads i can log into it but i have no idea how to get back in to OS X HELP!!!!!! (and no i dont have the system DVD disk thingys)

I was finally able to get the iBook to boot from the install disk, afer failing to get it to boot from TechTool Pro CD. Disk Utility reports a lot of extent allocation file overlaps that it can't repair. I was able to select my LaCie external boot drive as a Startup drive. I have TechTool Pro installed on it and am now running TechTool Pro. Hopefully this will get the straighten out those overlapping extent allocation files. Will keep you posted.

After being able to get into the iBook by booting from my LaCie boot drive I ran DU and found all kinds of overlapping directories that DU couldn't repair.
Went to TechToolPro and repaired, rebuilt directories, optimized drives (took all night; my son-in-law never did any maintenance and almost 20,000 disk fradments). So I thought, for sure we had taken care of Darwin. However, rebooted from the iBook this a.m. and, sure enough, there was Darwin again.
So I am in the process of cloning the entire drive to an empty partition on my LaCie reserved for just such emergencies. Then I plan to wipe the entire HDD and write zeros all over it. Then reinstall and restore. Hope that takes care of the little devil. Will let you know.

The project is complete. I have reinstalled Tiger and restored the User Folder, and the computer boots on its own. Darwin must be lurking somewhere, which is fine, so long as he doesn't show up on the display.Here is the link to that topic: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1047613&#1047613

when i sync my iphone to my computer to update my music, it syncs as normal to my phone but it re-arranges the most played songs and puts them at the bottom of the app rather in the exact order its appearing as in itunes. this only started happening when i updated to the new iOS platform. can somebody else? i need them to sync so that my most played songs remain at the top and not the opposite!!

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

Most YouTube content requires the Flash plugin. Sometimes it's necessary to uninstall then reinstall that plugin.
Uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new > Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Very important to uninstall the currently installed plugin first.
Now launch Safari and try a video.
If you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to: Open in 32 bit mode is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.
You may also need to delete the cache associated with Safari .
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy/paste: ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari
Click Go the move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari. Try a video.

HELP!! My player only starts in safe mode and won't do anything!

I dropped my nomad zen xtra (which i have to say has happened before), but this time it locked up - i couldn't shut it down or do anything else. Now when I start it, it only starts in safe mode, but it won't do anything in safe mode. It tells me "hard disk problems". It won't allow me to reformat even. What do I do?

Sounds like the player is broken. You can either return it to Creative for a paid repair, or try and fix it yourself by replacing the hard dri've (assuming that's what's broken). There's a guide here on hard disk replacement, but it's not for the faint hearted

My macbook will only start in safe mode.

I think my Mac is dying. It got really slow and started showing the beach ball, then it would just freeze up. I would have to restart it. For a while, it would restart just fine, then it would take forever and show me the gray screen. Then, it wouldn't even start from there. So I started it up in safe mode, and did the disk repairs, updated my software, got rid of all my startups, put all my icons into a folder on my desktop, and ran the fsck. The fsck said nothing was wrong, but it still won't start in regular mode. I did get plenty of disk0s2 I/O errors. So I think I'm dead in the water unless anyone can help. The only thing I haven't done was erase the hd and reinstall, because I lost my start up disks a long time ago. Everything I need is backed up on an external hd, so a complete wipe and reinstall would be okay.

Purchasing the original startup disks should not be expensive. That is a straightforward approach.
If you think the drive will be toast soon anyway you could purchase a new internal drive, an external USB enclosure, and Carbon Copy Cloner. Install CCC on your existing system. Put the new drive in the external enclosure. Use CCC to clone your old drive to the new one. Physically swap them.
A silver lining is this is an opportunity to upgrade to a significantly faster disk. The Seagate hybrid SSDH drives (500 GB or 1 TB) include an 8 GB SSD cache that really boost disk speed.

I have two yahoo accounts and I know as they 'improved' their servers I had periodic outages. It'd work fine on my webmail on my computer, webmail on the iPad, but not via the mail app. And it was stuff on their end. It may be a case of wait and see and you may need to eventually remove/readd the account on your iPhone.
When the issue is on their end, unfortunately there's not much for users to do beyond wait it out or find work arounds.

What ever you are working on stops after about 2 minutes the screen freezes and after another few moments you are required to put you password in again. It only started this morning and had been working perfectly until today. I purchased from eBay three weeks ago. If watching bbc new you can only watch for 2 minutes and same for video and games. Keeps coming back to screen saver where all icons are. Sometimes we are to use the on off button to get it going again. I set it up the same as my own iPad 32gb. Hope you can help? Thanks.

Spilled water without flavorings and especially without sugar is something from which your computer may recover. The best thing to do is to shut off as quickly as possible and remove the battery pack. Place the computer in a sunny window with the lid open to promote evaporation of the water. On top of a refrigerator is also a warm perch that'll promote drying. It is difficult to say exactly how long it takes to dry the computer; that depends on ambient temperature and humidity, and how how water is in there.
The biggest threat from the water is corrosion of metal parts, so drying quickly is a must. Also, water can form mineral salt deposits that can grow conductive dendrites between adjacent traces on printed circuit boards. The formation of dendrites is aggravated if you apply power before the machine is dried out. The worst damage would be if water managed to get in the breather hole of the hard drive - luckily, the way the drive is mounted, that would be fairly unlikely.

Lightroom 5 book module - suddenly the book 236 page book that I have been working on has mysteriously disappeared!!! Please help, as I am starting to panick!!!

I have been working hard on making a book in the Lightroom 5 book module for the past 6 months. I am close to being finished, and am doing my final edits. Suddenly, my book is only appearing as a 2 page blank book under the same heading, and has no images showing. When I go to the library, or develope module all the photos are still there, but under book module they are suddenly gone. Please help, as I am starting to panick!

First, are you 100% certain? In Library, double click the book. Does this take you to the "2 page blank book"? I assume yes, but let's be certain.
What version of Lightroom? 5.7 is the latest.
Restore a copy of your catalogue from a recent backup. Go to the book collection in Library, right click it, and choose Export as Catalog. This should create a small catalogue containing your book. Open it, and check it's right - if not, try an earlier backup.
If it's OK, then return to your main catalogue, rename the "2 page blank book" by putting "old" on the end, and use File > Import from Another Catalogue to bring the small catalogue into it. Does this solve the problem?

When I connect my iPad to my iMac using iTunes, I am not able to synchronize all of the library. I have marked off All pictures, events etc., but it only synchronize parets of it. I have plenty of available space, so it is not that.
Can anybody help?

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for the iPod Photo Cache.
Trash it. Start iPhoto and try sync again.

Can only start Windows 7 (installed with bootcamp) in safe mode

I installed Windows 7 about 3 weeks ago, everything has gone smoothly until a few days ago. I can only start Windows in safe mode, if I try to do it in normal mode, it starts to log in but the screen will just go black and the computer will shut off completely. Then it won't turn back on for like 5 minutes. My mac partition works fine, and I can't find a solution to this Windows problem. When I try to do the "restore' thing where you make it go back to a certain install point, it gives me an error. Please help me, I have a course starting in 3 days and I need Windows OS for it.

Press ALT or F10 in your keyboard to make the Menu Bar temporarily visible. If you want it to be permanently visible, go into ''View > Toolbars > Menu Bar'', or right-click the Navigation Toolbar (the Reload button, for example) and select ''Menu Bar''.
If this doesn't help, right-click the navigation toolbar, select ''Customize...'' and click ''Restore Default Set''. If it doesn't appear right away, try pressing ALT or F10. You can go into ''View > Toolbars > Menu Bar'' to make it permanently visible, or right-click the Navigation Toolbar and select ''Menu Bar''.
If none of this helps, you may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Try disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal.

Macbook only starts into Utilities menu after trying to restore

I recenty bought a macbook pro used off craigslist. I tried to system restore the computer. ( so i could start off with a fresh empty computer) I used disk utility to clear all the memory on the drives, then i proceded to click on the tab that says "install lion osx". Everything started working, but it required me to type in my apple id to complete the instalation. When i logged in it said that my account doesnt have lion bought on it, and i need to use an account that does. I have no clue on how to get lion operating system onto my account without physically logging into my computer and buying it. But since my computer will only start up into the Mac os x utilities menu im not able to buy it.

Drive Preparation and Installation
1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
7. After formatting is completed quit DU and return to the installer. Complete Snow Leopard installation.

If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one.
