Help! Over 5 years of photos gone!
I am anal about keeping my computer organized. After some events my whole iPhoto library is gone. Here is the step by step of what I did.
1. While organizing my pictures folder I moved my iPhoto Library to the Library folder in my home folder.
2. Upon opening iPhoto, all my albums were there and there were outlines of where the photos would be but when clicking on them it was blank.
3. I moved the iPhoto Library folder from the Library folder back to the photo folder, and the computer said there was already a file with that name there would I like to replace. I said yes, thinking the iPhoto Library I was replacing was an empty library that the program created when it couldn't find the original library.
4. Opened iPhoto again and there is NOTHING. No albums, no film rolls, completely empty.
Because I'm stupid I haven't backed up my files since I used OS 9.
I called my dad and he believes the files are still on my computer but iPhoto can't find them. But because I'm 6 hours away at school and have to relay info I don't understand over the phone, we didn't really get anywhere. If an one has any suggestions I am completely open. I am on the brink of crying if I've lost all my photos.
Punkachinca:
Try putting the Library6.iPhoto file that you moved to the desktop back in the library package, replacing any new version there. Then launch iPhoto. Make sure your library package is located in the Pictures folder. In the future, see the tip at the end of my signature for a way to make a backup of that Library6.iPhoto file. That will protect you in case there's any damage to that file causing iPhoto to think there are no photos. You should also backup the entire library package to protect your image files also.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

9 years of photos gone! Please help!
I have always uploaded ALL of my photos onto my work computer.... 9 years going on 10. Our tech guy realized my machine was never being backed up. The only connection I can make is they disappeared when he started backing up via Time Machine. I have tried everything I've been suggested to do on the forums and nothing has worked. It's as if everything dated before August 1, 2013 is gone forever. All of my files in my entire computer are still there, only Iphoto was affected. When I go into time machine to restore... the latest I can restore from is August 1, there are no backups before this date. Can somebody PLEASE help me??
Were the photos in an iPhoto Library? If so what version of iPhoto and system are you running? What do you see when you launch iPhoto to open your library? What size is the library as determined by the Finder?
There's a good chance that your image files are still in the library package but the library is damage and can't display them. Your answers to these questions will tell us how to proceed.

Help - where have my photos gone ?
Loaded Iphoto 11 and now I can't view some of my photos..
They show in the preview but when I click onto them I just get a black screen with a silver exclaimation mark on it - whats going on ?
thanksThe ! or ? turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
iOption 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I opened an older catalog and lost the original catalog with over 2 years of photos on it --Help
I opened an older catalog and lost the original catalog with over 2 years of photos on it (I never opened any other catalogs---I never chose to back it up either). it is not saved anywhere I can see as a catalog on my computer. If I didn't save it before opening the older catalog ( I don't specifically remember saving anything) would it be save in another format other than a catalog somewhere?
What happens if you choose File->Open Recent? Is the other catalog listed, and can you choose it? Simply switching to a different catalog should not cause the previous catalog to disappear.

I am new to apple software having worked with microsoft all these years. The switch was mainly for my photographs. Iphotos seemed to have changed all digital albums from jpeg to tiff format hence the very small resolution. Can anyone out there please help me recover these photos to origianal format???
Thanks
suvieve63Gosh I am already tired of trying to retrieve this photo album and it seems like a waste of time and money spent on an apple IMac.
No disrespect intended but until you learn how iPhoto and Macs work you will continue to be confused and frustrated.
You say you want to create a book in iPhoto and have it printed by Apple, right. Have you finished creating the book in iPhoto? If so the Control (right) - click in the View all pages window background and select Save Book as PDF in the contextual menu?
Open the the PDF file with Preview and check for any errors or problems. If there are none you can order the book by clicking oin the Buy Book button at the bottom. Save the pdf file to compare with the printed book when it arrives in you feel there's a problem with it. That's all you need to do. There's no use of the Finder required.

Where is my IPhoto library? I updated and the last two years of photos disappeared. Help., Where is my IPhoto library? I updated and the last two years of photos disappeared. Help.Thank you.
Simple and fast solution: restore from your back up.
Other than that:
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I backed up my iphone last weekend. Today (one week later), I was downloading music and noticed the text messages I send to myself (about 1 1/2 years worth) are gone. Now, I can't find the backup from last week to try to get them back. help???
You cannot update iPhone 4 to IOS 8.1.2, the highest you can update is IOS 7.1.2.
Unless you've iPhone 4S (looks similar to iPhone 4) -
My concern is I accidentally deleted something associated with the application; I was trying to free up some space on my Mac. I have over 10,000 photos in my iPhoto!! I should figure out how to back up my photos, assuming I can regain access to them.... Why will iPhoto not open....it just spins then gives me this lengthy problem report.
THANKS A MILLION.... but please remember my username when you reply, I am so new to Macs that you may need to dumb it down for me...

From Finder, hold down the option key on your keyboard and click on the Go menu at the top of the screen
Select Library from the drop down menu
Then navigate to Application Support > iLifeAssetManagement > assets
Right click on the 'sub' folder and choose Compress
Drag the resulting zip file to your Desktop (as a backup)
Go to your System Preferences and choose iCloud
Turn OFF the iCloud Photos option
Go back to Library > Application Support and DELETE the iLifeAssetManagement folder
Now, in System Preferences, turn the iCloud Photos option ON
iPhoto should now be able to launch. Give it enough time to re-download your Photo Stream content. if you are missing any of your My Photo Stream photos (more than 30 days old), unzip the sub folder on your desktop and drag that into iPhoto. -
I am running OS 10.6.8, an upgrade that I did after Christmas. A couple of times a year, I need to make a video of my students' performances, and have always been able to add text over the still photos before, using the directions in iMovie "help." However, this time, I am not able to choose a title style; no amount of clicking makes anything show up on the selected still photo. And no amount of trying to choose the font style makes anything show up either.
This is iMovie 09; is it possible that it is not compatible with my OS upgrade?
I've been able to insert still photos into the video footage, but can't add any titles or acknowledgements. Thank you so much for your help! Since I only do this a couple of times a year, it always takes me forever to accomplish, which is why I printed off the Help directions to follow.just to make thing clear (sorry for sounding impudent!)
you do .... :
create a New Project
make a selection of an Event and add it to the Project
select a title and drag it onto the clip?
iM does work with your OS ... -
Help with importing PC photo files and then organizing it all in iPhoto
Hi everyone,
I'm relatively new to mac but I am just loving my purchase! I need some serious help with getting all of my photos organized though so I can easily find it for editing in iMovie.
I've accumulated over 10,000 photos stored on my PC which I've since transferred over to my LaCie external drive for my MacBook Pro via a wireless network connecting my PC & Mac. Some of these I've put onto my laptop internal hard drive and those I've imported into the iPhoto library. However, do I need to move the rest of the photos from my LaCie drive into my internal hard drive to import the photos into iPhoto, or can I tell iPhoto to look for the files in the external drive. If so, how do I do that? I know I'll then have to create albums in order to sort them, which I know how to do. Is there any fast way to do it by date? I had it sorted into different file folders by month & year so I could easily find them on my PC and would like to do the same using albums.
I am quickly running out of hard drive space on my laptop which is why I've put most of my photos on the external drive. Once I organize my existing collection, I would like to be able to import new pictures and have it stored on my external drive, not my internal drive. How do I do that?
Any other tips on organizing a massive photo library would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
KarenKaren,
Is there any fast way to do it by date? I had it sorted into different file folders by month & year so I could easily find them on my PC and would like to do the same using albums.
This is where you get to enjoy the power of iPhoto's database. You can change the Sort in the View menu. Check out View > Sort Photos > by Date.
Or, click the little calendar icon near the lower left corner of the iPhoto window. This allows you to filter the library by year, month, week, or date. You can Command-click to add another date to your filter. You can Option-click to choose a recurring date: you get that month or date for all years in your library. [Want to see your kid's birthday for every year? Just Option-Click that date. Cool.]
The keywords filter is similar. There is a preference setting where you choose to filter based on ALL keywords chosen (where by choosing more keywords you narrow your field) or ANY keyword (where the more keywords you choose, the larger your field will be). Click on a keyword to filter your library by all photos containing that keyword. Use Command-click to add more keywords to the filter. A difference is that Option-click will eliminate photos with that keyword from your filter. [You can find all pictures of your kids with your dog but NOT at Halloween.]
You can create Smart Albums to combine the use of dates, keywords, ratings, titles, comments and more. The more information you enter into the database, the more powerful the tools become.
When your task of importing is complete and you are ready to play with iPhoto's features it may help to look at the iPhoto multimedia tutorial. Better organized than trying to read through the Help files, it can help you get acquainted with many of iPhoto's features.
Have fun. -
Photos gone and Time Machine Backup does not work.
I did a rebuild of my thumbnails at iPhoto's suggestion, then left the room because it took too long. When I came back all the photos and albums etc were gone, not exclamation points but missing.
I thought iPhoto could not find the library so I tried the option + open and chose the proper library. Still opened to an empty library. According to the library file it was 102 GB in size but oddly had no information. I did not panic because I back up ALL the time. When I tried the TimeMachine backup (each of them back to March) they also said over 100GB but when I started to transfer them it totaled only 1019 MB and now I have exclamation points and no photos. So I need help getting back the photos. TimeMachine is the ONLY backup I have. Is this an iPhoto problem or a problem with TM? In older versions of iPhoto there was a folder of folders that had all my pictures by roll number did that change in this version, because I can't find that either? FYI all photos, and library, are (were) on an external drive.
Not gonna lie I am in a bit of a panic at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I can clarify anything that does not make sense, I tried to keep the explanation as short as possible so people would read it!
Thanks in advance,
FatherTimeDo you still have your original library that started this problem? If so use Time Machine to bring forward the last backup before the problem happened. Do not replace the current library with the backup but select the option to keep both.
Open the recovered library and drag out the Library6.iPhoto file to the desktop and move the rest of the recovered library to the trash. Open your original library and replace the Library6.iPhoto with the file from the recovered library. See if iPhoto will open and recognize your photos now.
If you had any imports between the time of the last backup and your current library they will not be recognized in the library but will be inside the library non the less. You can find their event folder in the Originals folder, move it to the desktop to reimport.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file. -
Help! Lost all photos in iphoto
Try to cut all photos from iphoto to extra hard drive, not notice all photo is too big, over 20,000 pics, over 10G.
when click paste, the system died.and all photo gone..
Please help advise how to restore all photos...Where did you cut from? The Finder for from within iPhoto? If it was from the Finder you've damaged the library. If from within iPhoto apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
To copy your Photos easily to the Desktop in the same order as they are in Events use the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option with the settings shown in this screenshot:
Then drag the folders to the EHB drive. -
1.) How do I organized my photo album on my ipad?
2.) How do I remove an album on my ipad?
3.) i have taken over 1,000 photos on ipad, now it won't sync stuff to the ipad because it said there is not enough space. I want to delete some past synced photos from the computer to create space, but I don't know how to find it on computer. It sycned a portion of a file onto the ipad which is useless to me so I want to delete it all & start fresh.
4.) I was thinking about copying some of those photos over so it would show up as new data maybe then it would sync to my ipad as a new & competed album. Or will this create more problem because it would only be creating more photos?
5.) By the way, I don't know how to use dropbox or anything like it, so I take photos of some files & web screen that I use regularly to always have access regardless of internet access. That is why I have so many photos. But I want to be able to separate & organized them by files, web screens, or topics. I also want to be able to delete & update as needed.
6.) If needed I am willing to delete 4 G of downloaded app to create space. Will this help the space issue? Also could I just leave the downloaded app to my computer only & only sync to to ipad as needed, since I don't need app as regularly. I NEED "photo" ALL of the TIME! I am out in the field, instead of carrying stack & stack of papers, I carry ipad with photo of these daily needed papers!1, you can't at the moment, though with iOS 5 in the Autumn, from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :
Even organize your photos in albums — right on your device
2, by removing it from you synced from and re-syncing. Only photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad (either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view)
3, the location of the photos that you synced to the iPad should be listed on the iPad's Photos tab when connected to your computer's iTunes.
4, you can copy the photos from your iPad to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 . You should also be able to delete them from the iPad as part of the transfer process to your computer, and it's then your choice whether to add them to your sync photo list so as to copy them back to the iPad. Copying them to your computer would allow you to organise them into folders and therefore be able to sync them back into separate albums.
5, I don't use Dropbox either. There are some third-party browser apps in the iTunes App Store that allow you to download pages so that you can view them when offline e.g. Atomic Web (the whole page is saved within Atomic Web, it doesn't place a photo into the Photos app)
6, deleting content should help. If you remove an app from your iPad then you also remove the content that it's got on the iPad - so if you then decide to reinstall it back onto the iPad then you will need to manually add back any content that you want in it. None of the Apple built-in apps (including Photos) can be removed from the iPad -

To achieve your requirement, we can directly use expression. For more details, please refer to the following steps:
Right-click the column contains Year field to insert a column with Outside Group-Right.
Then type the following expression to the corresponding cells:
=Sum(iif(Fields!Year.Value="2014",Fields!REVENUE.value,0))-Sum(iif(Fields!Year.Value="2013",Fields!REVENUE.value,0))
Besides, we can also use custom code to achieve the same goal, please see:

If there are any other questions, please feel free to ask.
