Help packaging a PDF with links

Hey everyone, I'm sorry if this has been asked and answered already but I couldn't find it using the search. I have a PDF file that I have embedded a bunch of links to other local files in. Both the PDF and the files that are linked to are in one common folder. I would like to merge them all into one package but maintain the link integrity. So, I would have a single file but when I click on the sentence, it would take me to the linked file within that package. If thats not possible, is there a way to print the PDF but also show the links within the PDF? Kind of like the "reveal codes" type feature where you can see that think sentence links to that file, etc. Thanks for your help!
Brian

When you combine PDFs into a Package (Acrobat 8) or a Portfolio (Acrobat 9 & X) links present between two PDFs that are combined into the Package / Portfolio  are broken. The PDFs combined into a Package/Portfolio become attachments to the new PDF created (the Package/Portfolio).
The links between PDFs are between descrete stand alone PDF files not between files that are attachments in the new PDF.
Once PDFs are combined into the new Package/Portfolio PDF you can use the Link Tool to create links.
The PDF annotation that is a "link" does not have a "reveal codes" functionality.
Keep in mind that PDF is very much a different thing from word processing or layout file formats.

  • Creating PDF with links, one page of my PDF I cannot scroll or view, the PDF just jumps to the next page. Help!

    Hi Forum,
I have created a 14 page PDF with Adobe Acrobat XI. When I try to view page 13 (scrolling or just clicking on the page in thumbnails) it skips over 13 to 14 or goes back to 12. This started after creating links in the PDF from the 2nd and 3rd pages to certain page views. Is there a maximum? Right now I have about 20 or so within the document. I have updated Adobe and restarted my machine. Same issue exists. Thanks!

Here is the link. I would download because (as you know already I'm sure) links dont work in the Google Drive viewer.
    Thanks!

  • Packaging a PDF with Files and Hyperlinks

    Hello,
Google keeps coming up empty when I search for the solution ad I can't seem to find anything in these forums either, but hopefully one of you will be able to help me out.
I want to provide a client with a zip archive containing the PDF I'm working on as well as certain files they will be needing.  These cannot be on a server.
The client will be expecting to unpack the archive before reading the PDF.
I have been trying to create relative hyperlinks to the files in question (two of which are zip archives themselves) so that the client could click on the link and have their default software open the selected file.  Unfortunately, it seems like the PDFs I'm creating route all URLs through the default browser, rather than the operating system itself.  Thus, text files are opened and displayed in the browser, directories are displayed as directory indices in the browser and anything else that the browser can open seems to work (html documents, etc.).  However, when the file being linked to is not one that the browser can open (such as a zip archive) nothing happens.
For example, I have created a link with the correct relative url to the file.  In the PDF, hovering over it shows the correct file path.  I click on it and get the Adobe Reader security pop-up, saying:
This document is trying to connect to:
    file://correct_path_to_the_file/the_file.zip
If you trust this site, choose Allow. If you do not trust this site, choose Block.
Of course, I choose Allow.  Then nothing happens, presumably because the request is being sent to the browser which doesn't know how to handle it. Is there any way to send the request to the operating system? Or at least to open up a file browser, rather than the web browser?
    Thanks for any help!
Oh, and I'm using InDesign CC on an x64 Windows machine, if that's of any use.

  • TOC in pdf with links

When converting word 2011 docx documents to pdf, the links in the table of contents are lost. Can this problem be solved??

This is the free Reader forum. You may try the Acrobat forum.

  • Reading PDF with Links not working in iOS or Android

    Good day all,
I have created a PDF file that has links to other PDFs.  The file would be over 500 pages long, and too large to download to devices for viewing, so we as a company have determined that the best thing is to create Bookmarks and/or Table of Contents.
I have tried both of the following ways, and neither work...so any help would be appriciated.
First, create a link in the main document with "Go to a page in another document" action item.  When you open the main PDF document and click on the link...it returns an error as Page Not Found in any PDF viewer on a mobile device (including Adobe Reader).
Second, create a link with "Open a web link" action item.   When you open the main PDF document from any PDF viewer on the mobile device and click on the link, it will then open the browser to view the second document.  We would want it to open within the viewer on the mobile device.
I have tried to post this in the Adobe Reader section, and did not get a response...trying here now....seems I cannot get an answer from anyone at Adobe either.

do you know of any way to get this functionality on mobile devices?

  • Creating PDFs with links for web searches

Hi everyone. That title is not exactly the problem I'm having, but it's a good start.
We have found that Firefox/IE/Chrome search our PDFs quite nicely, but when the link is clicked in the search results, all that happens is that the PDF opens to page 1. Users have to search again to find what they're looking for. Perhaps that is just how such a search is supposed to happen, but it seems that I've seen somewhere that a PDF opened to the page with the search term on it.
What can we add to the FrameMaker source files or the PDF (before it's posted to the web) to ensure that a search link takes the user precisely to the text being searched for? We're TCS3 with unstructured FM but might soon be, um, strongly encouraged to switch to the structured version.
I've looked through the FM and Acrobat forums for an answer, to no avail.
    Thanks for the help!

    > I wonder whether it's a limitation of the search engine, rather than FM or Acrobat.
That would be my guess. Search engines probably cannot search many PDFs in the raw at all (you don't have to turn on much security to turn a PDF binary into an encrypted mess). But if the PDF allows reading and/or printing, they can render the whole thing, and index what's displayed. The named destinations may not be recovered in that process, plus, you're not always assured that there will be an ND nearby everything you're indexing.
Adobe might even provide some APIs that would allow deeper linking into PDFs as a search result, but it may also be that few enough have useful NDs that it just isn't worth the bother to look. NDs inflate the size of the PDF, so many publishers don't turn them on (we don't, and probably won't, until we need deliberate deep linking).
If you want the info to be accessible like a web page, you multi-flow to HTML or a similar non-atomic format as well.

  • How do I convert a PDF with links to html?

I created a JPEG in Photoshop elements 9 and then used acrobat to overlay some links on the Jpeg.  I then saved the jpeg as a PDF.   How to convert this file to HTML so I may upload it to the web with all links active and original jpeg intact?
Having a really hard time with this!
Do I need to purchase a separate program?

In my experience, there's not much you can do outside of copying and pasting page by page.

  • Creating PDF with links in Table of Contents

How do I convert a Word file (in which the page numbers in the Table of Contents are links to their corresponding headings) to a PDF file so that the page numbers in the Table of Contents are still liinks to their corresponding headings?  I am working with Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro.  Thanks!

Hmmm. I hadn't heard of this limitation. Indeed, http://www.pdfa.org/2011/08/pdfa-–-a-look-at-the-technical-side/ says "With regard to hyperlinks, the special ‘Link’ annotation type is permitted with or without activated ‘Appearance’. "  Maybe this document is being generated with a different kind of annotation.

  • Pdf with Links

I am looking for a better Plugin for Acrobat that will automatically generate links in my very large pdfs (300+pages). There are multiple Table of Contents and an index in the back of each pdf, as well as numerous cross reference links on each page. Currently i use Digidox QuickLinx which is out of business and not compatible with Acrobat 9.
Does anyone know of a plugin?

You may want to look at:
    --| ARTS PDF Aerialist
    --| Evermap's AutoBookmark
Both have been around for some time & have a solid reputation.
A web search will turn up others.

    Hi Stef,
Which version of Safari and OS X are you using?
Is there any possibility to get both: active links and some "normal" page size?
This seems to be working fine for me via the Print... Save As PDF option in Safari 3.0.4 on 10.4.11.

  • Create pdf with link to image library on shared server?

I want to create a pdf from an image library that's shared across a server by 20 mac users.
But I want the 'contact sheet' to include clickable links from the thumbnails within it, eg:
the user can double click and image and it will open in photoshop.
I've tried a few things via Acrobat pro and Bridge but nothing seems to match what I want.
    Can anyone suggest anything?
    cheers.

  • Navigate pdf with links only??

is it possible to set up 10 links on one page to navigate soley to other pages in a document. the document will open up as full screen - but how do i stop users from clicking to the next page if you click anywhere else on the screen - i only want people to navigate using the set links. Also is it possible to copy the links from one page to another - without having to rebuild them all. Am really Stuck!? thanks

Yes you can create links to execute menu items or JavaScript, but you might find form buttons more useful as they can be placed on mulitple pages, the labels copy with the button, and the can be made non-printable.

  • Can I create a pdf with clickable links which open new pdfs?

    Hi,
My client now wants me to create pdf with links to open new pdfs (in an offline mode). He wants to put all the content onto memory sticks to hand out at a conference.
I have suggested the alternative of links which redirect to other pages within the same pdf, but if I could create one which open whole new pages or documents this would be really smart.
    Many thanks,
    Sam

When you create the links, use "Go to a page view" type, as opposed to "Open a file". This allows you to create links that will open another PDF to a particular page and view (zoom and position).

  • Opening Sharepoint PDF from link

We have enabled the ability to check in and check out document in SharePoint for PDF docs.  This all works fine in the SharePoint interface, but when users send links to pdf documents in an e-mail. When you click the link the pdf opens but there is no check in or out options available. When you check the doc properties the PDF is being opened in a temp folder.
How can I get explorer or adobe acrobat to recognise that the doc is in SharePoint?
This does not happen when you click on link to word or excel documents.

Hi same problem here but only on Windows 7 in Acrobat Reader. Full Acrobat on Windows and Mac ok, and Reader on Mac works fine too. I've got a pdf with links to other pdfs. On windows I have to click 'Allow' each time I reopen the document. Very annoying, especially that Mac versions seems to work just fine. Tom
