Help, panic CPU caller 2
Hi,
any help would be great. Was watching a video on you tube when safari crashed (spinning rainbow). I couldn't force quit so i forced the computer to shut down by pressing the power button. I tried to reboot and now on the grey screen with apple logo i now get the below error come up:
panic(CPU 2 caller 0xffffff80111cdf34): "process 1 exc of /Sabin/launchd failed....... And it keeps going.
DOes anyone know what this is or how rectify it.. I've tried booting in safe mode and it keeps repeating this long message on the apple logo screen.
Thanks
Hello weaves56,
Performing a Safe Boot is where I would have started as well if I were getting this panic message at the gray loading screen. I would recommend the other troubleshooting steps in the following article to help you isolate and resolve the issue here:
Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup
Just start at the top, and work your way down to the bottom as needed.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

Sterling

I am totally worried I am going ot lose all my data after trying to install update on MacAir. Cannot do anything error message saying panic ....."Unablet o find driver for this platform."
Hi Guys
No good news I'm afraid. I have been through ALL the system caches and files that were updated at the time of said issue. Reset - rebuild and even gone back to my TimeMachine copy from earlier this AM. Nothing! Can only assume it is something deeper in the /usr or var or private folders.....
I have cloned the system and core files (/usr, /private) etc etc to an external HD and it still recreates the fault. I am afraid to say I have no more time at the minute to look at so have put my machine back to 2 hours prior via my TimeCapsule.
I the absense of anyone else or, indeed, Apple fixing in the next 12 hours, will get back onto it from the cloned copy I have kept and see if I can find the offending file/files...
Sorry I don't have an immedaite solution. -

Hello,
I use the forum all the time to find solutions to problems, and my Mac was slow so I went to this discussion: "kernel_task high memory usage" and I thought I had to delete my kernel extensions based on what several users said worked for them. In retrospect it says to delete them for printers, but I accidentally and ignorantly deleted them all.
I restarted my computer and what I get is a quick start to the gray screen and the the apple logo. On the gray screen I get a bunch of white text in black backgrounds. It says:
panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff800a2c3221): "Unable to find driver for this platform: \"ACPI".\n"@SourceCache/xnu/xnu-2422.110.17/iokit/Kernel/IOPlatformExpert.cpp:1 533

and then it has numbers and letters and a : and more numbers and letters
it says aslo "can't perform kext scan: no kext summary

and it has all the version and other information. I don't know if you need it to solve the problem. I can type it up if it's necessary.
I tried holding the shift button to start in safe mode but that doesn't help. How can I backup my data to an external hard drive? Some important data is not currently backed up and I don't have a time machine. I just made several copies of data that's important. How can I make sure I don't lose anything in the process of fixing my computer?
The computer is MacBook Pro And I think I had Mavericks installed on it.
what do I need to do to backup my data and to fix the computer? Do I need to reinstall the OS? If so, how can I do that? I didn't have an original cd or DVD that came with the computer. And I upgraded my os through a download.
I Know I did a stupid thing, and it would mean the world if someone can help me resolve this. Thank you so so much.VitoK1,
I’m glad to learn that you’re able to use your MacBook Pro again. To back up your files (as a bit of insurance against future disk problems, so that a disk problem won’t wipe out all of your personal files), you can use the Time Machine app, which is different from the Time Capsule hardware. The Time Machine app can be used with an external disk of your choice; it’s not limited to being used with Time Capsules. As backup software goes, it’s pretty painless. This Apple page has information on how to set up an external disk to be a Time Machine backup destination, and on what needs to be done to set up regular backups of your Mac to that external disk. -
Help needed cpu 0 caller panic
Hi everyone,
I tried to update the iTunes on my macbook pro last night to the 11.1 version and then there was an error with my update. the next time i started my laptop, it just says:
panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff8009459241): "Unable to find driver for this platform: \"ACPI\".\n"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-2050.20.9/iokit/Kernek/IOPlatformExpert.cpp:1 548
Debugger called: <panic>
amd so on..
Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this? I went to my local Apple Store today and they were completely useless and wouldn't book me in for an appointment until next week. Could you please help me?
Many thanks,
icmacbookIf you don't already have a current backup, back up all data, then reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it. -

Hello jayparks41
There are a few things to try and the article below can walk you through them before trying to hunt down a Snow Leopard install disk. I will say that it may come down to reinstall Snow Leopard but also before any troubleshooting, make sure to have a safe copy of your data.

Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

If you can't do that either, then you will probably need to reinstall 10.6. -

This way it also clear ones your not using anymore.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
Then I would see if the machine ran fine like that (minus some programs of course without their kernel extensions) with no KP's, if there are some more then it's one of the other programs your using currentl and reintall those.
If everything is fine, check for updates for those programs with at boot kernel extensions and install them one at a time carefully and seee when your problem returns.
Also run further through the Steps to eliminate any other issues. -
I have this shutdown of my iMac almost every night. It seems to happening all of a sudden. Any help would be appreciated.
I have checked the HD - it is okay. I have checked permissions & they seem to be okay.

ENDIn your case, I would simply do a #8 Reinstall OS X, that will wipe out all third party at boot kernel extension files and give you a nice clean new OS X free of corruption.

Thank you for the feedback, I am already in the process of doing those steps before I wrote this question. The reason I am posting this is because I would really like to see if others have experienced problems with this. I want to be prepared with information when I have my appointment with the genius bar (this is my production mac and I need to finish up a project before I can get some known issues fixed).
By knowing if others have seen issues with cpu 2 this will help me in understanding the problem and know if I'm getting the correct information from the genius bar. IE I don't want to be back at the bar with my HEAVY mac pro trying to troubleshoot this over a long period of time if someone here has seen a similar message and I can shortcut what might be a long and tedious process of fixing this.
AGAIN, thank you for the feedback but I am doing those steps. -
I installed the 829mb Apple software update on my 2011 Macbook Pro. Upon restart, it crashed. It instructed me to hold power button to shut off and then press again to restart. Same error message keeps coming up and computer won't boot to home screen.

THANKS FOR ANY HELP.
ROBBBoot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with networks that require any kind of authentication other than a WPA or WPA2 Personal password.
When the Mac OS X Utilities screen appears, follow the prompts to reinstall the Mac OS. You don't need to erase the boot volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac didn’t ship with Lion, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.
Don't install the Thunderbolt update -- it's defective. -
