HELP!! Panther Install disk stalled, turned off powerbook,cant reboot!

Desperate need of assistance!! Hard drive was giving me nightmares despite clearing everything off (45 gigs spare). Suspected RAM issue or Hard Drive corruption causing everything to run slowly, boot up took 20 minutes, very familiar with the spinning ball. Thought I'd reload Panther 10.3. Got through first disk, restarted, requested second install disk, got through 78% of that then stalled. Turned powerbook off, back on and after the initial grey screen with apple on it got a four bling lines of text suggesting an overlap with OSX9 and reinitiating. Seems to be in a neverending loop, dont know how to stop this. Reboot only brings this up again. Cant eject Install disk 2, cant reboot. Hopefully there is something else I can do as its basically a dead duck at the moment, please help!!

I had the same issue whilst trying to reinstall Facebook. Facebook hung on installing so I did a hard reset of the phone and got the Apple symbol which wouldn't go away. I did another hard reset which resolved the problem.
To do a hard reset hold down both the on/off and home buttons simultaneously. When the Apple logo appears release both buttons. Phone should eventually restart.

Panther Install disks get ejected on attempt to uprgrade from OSX 10.1

I just bought a used Powermac G4 877 Mhz that had OS 10.2 installed. It has upgraded memory, ungraded Pioneer Combodrive (DVD-RW CD-RW)and an updated video card. I have Panter OSX 10.3 (Panther) Install disks. My goal was to upgrade this new G4 to 10.3 with these disks.
I first used the seller's 10.1 Install disks to clean out the system and start from scratch. Then I attempted to load my 10.3 Install disks to begin the installation. I held down the "c" key as you are supposed to when you restart the OS but instead of coming up in the Installer, the 10.3 disks for ejected and the operating system booted into 10.1.
I'm not sure if this symptom is related but I notice that there is no sound coming from Playing iTunes songs after I installed OS10.1
I'm taken a step backward because when the Mac was sold to me I checked out from the Profiler that the OS was v10.2. Now I'm at v10.1 and don't have a way to get to 10.3 because of this problem.
Any suggestion on fixing this problem would greatly be appreciated. What happened and how do I fix it?

For whatever reason, the sypmtoms of this problem went away just by re-doing the installation of OS X 10.1 from the original installation disks and downloading a few security updates to 10.1 until the OSX 10.1 Updater said I was "up to date".
After this install, I was able to load my 10.3 Panther install disks w/o them being ejected and w/o a non-response (i.e., no error diaglogs and no appearance of my installation CD on the desktop) from OS 10.1.
If anyone cares to offer up a reason for why near-identical recreaation of the steps resulted in the original problem, I would be interested in hearing.

The home button will often do nothing or sometimes brings up Siri with a quick click Instead of the prolonged click and hold you normally need for Siri.
I've tried rebooting, resetting user data, and restoring the iPhone, with no change.
You think it's fixed itself but an hour later it will start doing the same thing again.
This happens a dozen or so times a day.
The only thing that will unlock the phone is waiting somewhere between one and five minutes at which point it will simply resolve itself for a while.
It doesn't seem to be associated with any one particular application. It can happen with any application.

Interestingly enough, (and I don't normally condone tapping on a device), my friend gave it a good tap, this morning, and it started working instantly. Coinsidence? I didn't know. It's locked up numerous times since then during the day today, and I've tried his tapping technique again and it's worked every time. Now I don't know what to think. I didn't think there were any parts inside that would be effected by tapping it but this doesn't give me a warm feeling about the hardware inside.

My question is how do I turn off the vibrate for specific Blackberry Instant Messge (BIM) cause many friend keep talk me and the vibrate drain my battery. First off your BIM, BlackBerry Instant Message is the same as BlackBerry Messenger.
1. BBMessenger to turn off vibrate: Edit your profiles per the instructions below, look at "Messenger" settings (there are two for new message and alert) and set that to profiles.
2. So you know now what Messenger is. Level 1 Messages can be PIN messages or any user you set to receive as Level 1 Messages, which can receive a different notification alert than other messages. Look at your Messages > Options > General Options.
1. Select the Profiles icon
2. A box will appear where you can quick select between Loud, Vibrate, Quiet, Normal, Phone Only, and Off. If you wish to quick change the device profiles then select the one you want and exit out.
3. If you want to edit the tones assigned to the device applications then select the last option, Advanced

a) Select between: None, Tone, Vibrate, Vibrate+Tone
b) Select the Tune you wish to use
c) Select Volume (options are Mute, Low, Medium, High, Escalating)
d) Select Number of Beeps (options are 1, 2, 3)
e) Select Repeat Notification (options are None, LED Flashing)
f) If set to Vibrate or Vibrate+Tone then select Number of Vibrations (options are 1, 2, 3)
8. Repeat a-e for each of the desired applications listed in 5 above

PLZ Help. PC won't turn off because of EAX Mod

Help! Ever since i installed my X-Fi Fatalty, when I go to turn my computer off, it says now ending EAXModule. After that, the computer won't turn off, but I can't do anything because it says the window station is shutting down. It is very annoying because all my settings aren't saved and I have to turn the computer off manually.
My system:
Athlon 64 4000+ OCed to 2.64 GHz
Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe
2GB Kingston Hyper X
2 MSI 7900GT's in SLI
50GB Western Digital Raptor
Creative X-Fi Fatalty
Antec 550 Watt PSU

I'm also having a similar problem now, however, if I wait a minute or two the system does shut down. I'm using an ASUS M2N32 WS Professional board, with the my X-Fi Platinum card in the second PCI-X slot; I couldn't get it to work at all in the board's one PCI slot, and the first PCI-X slot has my RAID card in it (Areca ARC-0). My GeForce 7900 GTX is in the second PCI-E slot, since it's too big to fit in the first and leave room for the RAID card.
For all that, the sound card, video, everything seems to work perfectly except for this problem with the EAX module at shutdown. It's very annoying. I've tried stopping CTDetect from running at startup, I've tried completing the registration. Nothing seems to work, but I want my Creative applications. Any ideas?

Please help me! Can´t turn off safari bookmarks

iPhone 4s with latest software and iCloud. iCloud sync works fine with my iMac an MBP, but I have a major problem with the iPhone.
Have read several tips on how to solve the sync issues, but my problem is that it the thing refuses to turn off the bookmarks.
When I turn the switch to off I get the message "Turing Off Bookmarks", but the wheel just keeps spinning (for ages) and nothing happens.
I´ve tried to turn off the Bookmark syncing on my iMac and MBP, but that doesn´t help.

We have a classroom that has odd acoustics that caused a severe feedback loop. We discovered that muting the speakers helped, but did not totally solve the problem. Now we want to try forcing the internal microphone input level to 0 so that we killing the issue from both ends. However...
I found that sliding the "Input volume" level to 0 in the Sound preference pane does not "mute" the mic. It actually still picks up sound. I even tried using the following command:
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to set volume input volume 0
This does make the slider visibly go all the way to the left, but again does not completely turn off the mic.
I tested this two ways: clapping my hands in front of the iMac and watching the Input level meter, and doing a voice recording in Garage Band.
Why the **** can't we turn off the mic?!?

Second Panther Install Disk not recognized

I am trying to reinstall OS 10.3 from the original, full retail version CDs, doing a complete clean install.
I have successfully installed disk one, but then when prompted to insert disk 2, I do so and nothing happens.
I don't think it is a problem with my CD or the drive because:
1. The CD is clean.
2. My G4 reads it fine.
3. The other CDs have worked, including the first install disk.
So I chose to cancel the rest of the installation.
The computer boots up all right as is, but then it won't eject the second install CD. So I restarted and pushed the eject button on the keyboard during restart to get it out.
Once the computer is restarted again, I put disk 2 back in, to see if I can install that way. Same problem, but now it not only won't read the disk (although the CD drive is making plenty of noise trying to), but it also slows everything else down to a grinding halt. The finder takes MINUTES to open and close windows. But again, the CD won't eject, so I have to push the eject button during another restart. Once the CD is out, the OS runs smoothly again.
My questions are:
1. What is going on?
2. How do I get my computer to recognize this disk?
3. Can I work around this problem by copying the installer package files from my G4 (which CAN read the CD) to the iBook (which gags on the CD)?
4. Are there any other suggestions?

I tried creating a disk image to copy the second install disk as you suggested, but about halfway through the process, I got this error message:
"Stop. Input/Output Error"
Does this confirm that the disk itself is corrupt? I followed the step-by-step instructions on the Apple support pages, just to be sure I did everything right.
Sooo, if the CD has some problem with it, and yet my G4 can read it (but apparently cannot copy it), I have another question:
Will I be able to run the installer on my G4 while using the iBook as my Target Disk ? I can't figure out how that would work. (I already have a firewire connection between the two computers.)

Really strange: plugging in DVI cable turns off powerbook

So I just bought a new KVM: an Avocent Switchview DVI. 4-port DVI/USB switchbox, very nice.
Problem is, if I plug the (known good) ADC 23" Cinema Display (with ADC->DVI converter) into it, and then plug it into my Powerbook, and then turn on the Powerbook, as soon as the Powerbook detects the external display and starts using it, it (the Powerbook) shuts itself off. If I hot-plug it while the powerbook is on, it detects the display, starts to use it, SHOWS THE 'Are you sure you want to shut down?' DIALOG BOX ON THE CINEMA DISPLAY, and THEN turns off.
It's like the DVI connector has a sensor for the power switch in it, and somehow this KVM is triggering it. (I note that the power button is directly on top of the DVI connector... could this be interference?) It's driving me totally nuts.
And then there's my G4 Cube, which works fine with the cinema display, but just doesn't detect it at all when it's plugged into the KVM. It's like they're trying to drive me crazy or something.

Just in case someone is curious, it appears Apple uses the 'hot swap detect' pin on DVI in a non-standard way, at least according to the admittedly biased manufacturers of my DVI switchbox. If I pull the pin out of the cable, it no longer detects hot swaps, but also doesn't turn off my computer when I hook it up.
Of course, my G4 Cube still doesn't work properly with it, so it's basically a worthless piece of junk to me, but hey, that's what you get when you believe the spec sheets, I guess, right?

Try holding the power and home buttons for ten to fifteen seconds until the apple appears. If still bad, try a restore from within the computer&itunes.

How to boot from Panther install disk?

Hi,
May be a stupid question but I want to boot to my Panther install disk1 to repair my hard disk. I start the computer with the cd in the drive but it never boots from the cd. How do I do it?

Insert the Panther Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
You may also want to read Using Disk Utility and fsck to resolve startup issues or perform disk maintenance.

I am looking into purchasing Panther but how do I know I know if I am able buy a DVD install disk or if I should stick with the CD install disk? (I have an iMac G4 Flat Panel - OS 10.2.3) Thanks.

The Full Retail Version of Panther, is always on CDs.
A DVD is an upgrade or machine specific version, and will not install a complete operating system.
Tip: Install CDs/Use On Multiple Macs
Panther Install Sets, can be purchased at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, etc.
They are no longer available directly from the "Apple Store", as "Tiger 10.4.x" is the most up to date OS.
The ones on this eBay search results page, look legit, but CAVEAT EMPTOR!

I was downloading up-dates and maybe disconnected before comlete!! I thnk it may have even started to restore but all I know is that it is frozen to the extent that it will not even turn off!! Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Then connect to cpmputer and restore if it shows in iTunes
- If iPod is still frozen on, let the battery fully drain. Then after charging for an hour try the above again.
