Help - Photos to iMovie

Can I drag photos directly into iMovie or do need to import them into iPhoto first? The files are nef/RAW

Haven't you ever used a Media Browser before?
You can create an Album - or not - but creating an Album will perhaps make it easier to find the pics. You can access every single photo in your Aperture Library from the media browser.
You don't "download the album to iMovie". Just select a pic and drag into the project window.
Just launch iMovie and try it. There's less to this than meets the eye

  • Issue with photos in iMovie - looks normal in timeline but won't play

I'm having an issue with importing photos into iMovie. I've done it many a time without trouble but suddenly, when I really need it...ahh!
The problem is with a video I've already exported once—I'm not sure if that's related. I created a slide in Powerpoint, made it into a jpg, then dragged it into my timeline (also something I've done before without issue). It looks totally normal in the timeline, but when I play the video it shows a still from the previous clip instead of my photo. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you!

Gah. This is where I'm at...I'm using the code from above and
my mp3 sound file is ID'd in the linkage properties as monkey7.mp3
    and it's still not working.
What buttons should be checked in the Linkage properties? If
my id is monkey7.mp3 and I check the Export for ActionScript
button, my sound file plays multiple times and it still won't stop.
If I do the same thing but ID it as "monkey7.mp3", it plays
    correctly but won't stop.
I don't know if this matters but my mc where my sound file is
located is one frame. Is that correct?
I'm sure the code is correct but I'm missing something and I
    can't figure it out!

  • Can't see photos in iMovie 11

I've been working on video/photo slideshow on my iMac (leopard, iMovie 11) for the last couple of weeks.  Minor problems but overall going smoothly.  Today I'm working on my brand new MacBook Air (lion, iMovie 11) practicing some iMovie techniques.  I've been dragging photos into iMovie from iPhoto.  After dragging I cannot see the photos in the viewer/full screen.  All is see is a black screen.   Please help.

I know how iMovie works. I've used it before without any issues. It seems like ever since I upgraded to snow leopard and iLife '11 iMovie never shows files imported. I don't know what the issue is and I can't find any solutions anywhere. Sometimes I will see the imported file in my Movies>iMovie Events>Event Folder but the file does not display at all in the iMovie app itself so I cannot edit.....
I'm thinking about either downgrading to Leopard or iLife '09 to see if either one fixes my problem.

  • Photos into iMovie: yes, it's been addressed, but...

... I can't find exactly my issue, at least not recently.
Many of the posts on this topic seem to be about exporting to iDVD, but that's not my problem. It starts earlier. My photos get compressed and look terrible as soon as they're imported into iMovie. I have '09, but the local Apple Store didn't think upgrading to '11 would help, because -- such as I understand -- a single large photo is much bigger than a frame of video or something more or less like that.
Now, I pretty much just want to do slideshows, high-quality slideshows, and I don't even care about Ken Burns effects. But before you say: DON'T do this in iMovie! That's not what it's for! Do it in something else! Consider:
-People I know who use Final Cut Pro (which is more than I want to invest, anyway) say that it, too, has problems importing and manipulating photos. No one I know has Final Cut Express to play around with, and there's no Free Demo, obviously.
-I've now dabbled in both FotoMagico and Photo to Movie, and they seem to have some things going for them, but I can't seem to control audio in them as well as in iMovie, and that's a huge problem. I need to control fades precisely, and I need multiple audio tracks to layer and cross-fade.
-Other programs I've dabbled with, such as Aperture 3 and Sounds Slides, also have limited ability to manipulate sound and/or adjust the length of individual slides.
-One responder in a forum last year named Klaus  suggested an elegant work-around: create the slideshow in Photo to Movie (which he uses) or FotoMagico (which he guessed would work ok), and then bring it back into iMovie as a .dv video clip for sound editing and finishing. I tried this, but P2M compressed the images when I saved as a .dv (back to square one), and I couldn't figure out a way to export in FM that iMovie would recognize.
    So . . .
Is there a better way to import photos into iMovie to preserve integrity? (I don't think so)
Is there a better way to export video out of FotoMagico or P2M into iMovie?
Is there something I'm missing about their sound editing capabilities?
Can Final Cut Express do what I want without much more excess capacity than I need and a huge learning curve?
    Are there any other programs?
Klaus, Bengt, others -- please weigh in!!!
    Thanks, Danke, Merci . . .

Understanding your data use is important, Rustyhinges! There are many things that can factor into a sudden increase in data. Thank you for ensuring Facebook Video is off. You can also view which applications are using the most data by going to Settings, Data Usage and scrolling to the bottom. As Android_Optimizer mentioned, making sure the device is not syncing to cloud services and restricting background data are great steps to keeping the phone data use, controlled. Please let us know if you have further concerns on this. Thank you.

  • I imported videos from photo into iMovie when I set up iMovie (obvious mistake) and now iMovie doesn't work properly, nor can I move specific videos into a folder where I want them. How do I fix this?

I imported videos from photo into iMovie when I set up iMovie (obvious mistake) and now iMovie doesn't work properly, nor can I move specific videos into a folder where I want them. How do I fix this? I even tried deleting iMovie, bought a new copy and installed it, but the folder "iPhoto Videos" is still there and I can't get new clips loaded to iMovie, especially where I want them. Please help.

The iPhoto Videos do occasionally have problems. I've seen a lot of people write messages to this Discussion group describing similar problems. The only thing that seems to get around this problem is to pull the video clips out of iPhoto then import them directly into iMovie. Once the troubles with iPhoto Videos starts, I haven't yet seen anyone write back with something that they did to fix it.
The most difficult part of doing this is the movies in iPhoto might be a little difficult to track down. But you can create a smart alum that does that for you. Go to iPhoto > File Menu > New Smart Album:
Set the first pulldown menu to keyword, second to contains, then in the last box type Movie with a capital 'M'. Then click OK. This smart album more or less does as search of the whole iPhoto Library and only displays items that match your search tearm of "Movie" exactly. In that smart album then you can find the original Movies you want to move out of iPhoto and into iMovie, <CTRL> click on the Movie clip, then choose Reveal in Finder. That will jump you out of iPhoto temporarily and into the iPhoto Library folder. From there you can move that movie file to the desktop. Move all the clips you want, once they're all collected up go to iMovie and go to the File Menu > Import Files. Then point it to the desktop where you moved your video clips.
This will put all those videos into an Event folder in iMovie and bypass iPhoto Videos altogether.

  • Edit duration of photos in imovie 10.0.6

I need to edit the duration of a bunch of photos in iMovie 10.0.6. The are JPG's with a resolution of 3088 x 2056 if you are wondering. I can't find anywhere to change the time it displays... it's looked at 10 seconds. All of the thinks people have suggested on the forum are grayed out for me and I can't click/use them (Adjust, Movie Properties, Right-Click, etc). Please Help!!!

    Hello ThatSmoggyGuy,
Have you tired click and dragging at the end of a photo to drag out the duration of the photo? If you have not, give that a shot and to see if that works. Take a look at the article below for more details if you have not done so already. If you have let me know and I can offer another suggestion.

  • Extract photo in imovie 11?

I'm new to this version of imovie and don't know how to create a photo from imovie 11. also, can you please provide step by step instructions because I don't know how to view the movie in timeline format or still by still? I used to know imovie much better back in 2007 but that doesn't help me now. thanks!

Good Job! MPEG Streamclip will be valuable to you in other ways too. But it is the quickest way to extracting photos now that iMovie vers '08, '09, '11 got rid of the ability to do it natively in the Application itself.

  • Moving iPhoto, Photo Booth, & iMovie library to an external drive

I've search through most of the support community and still havent found a concrete answer. Like most my current internal harddrive is about full. Mostly filled with photos and movies. I have a external harddrive that Time Machine is enabled. I also backed u my iphoto & photo booth library to the external drive. I have yet to move over any imovie data until I am sure that process will work.
How do I move all data over so that iphoto, photo booth, & imovie can be ran fom my external harddrive. Also how can I ensure that imovie will direct itself to the iphoto library on my external because all movies from the past use the iphoto library as its directory. Once this is done I would like to delete all previous data off of my nternal drive
    Thank you

. I have a external harddrive that Time Machine is enabled. I also backed u my iphoto & photo booth library to the external drive. I have yet to move over any imovie data until I am sure that process will work.
Do you want to store your movies and photos on your Time Machine drive? That is not recommended, since you will not have a backup, if the media are only on your backup volume. You will need a second drive in addition to your backup drive, and this drive needs to be formatted MacOS Extended (Journaled), otherwise you cannot store photo libraries (iPhoto, Aperture) or iMovie events on that drive, see:  Format external drives to Mac OS Extended before using with Aperture (remember, thta formatting erases a drive, you have to save any contents to another drive before formatting).
For iPhoto:  Once your external drive has the correct file system, simply select your iPhoto library in the Finder and drag it to that drive. Then double click the copied library to open it in iPhoto.
For iMovie: To move your iMovie events to an external drive, use the event browser in iMovie - don't use the Finder!
See this Help page:  Copy or move video from your Event Library to an external ... http://support.apple.com/kb/ph2302
I don't use Photo Booth, so I do not know how to move your Photo Booth photos.

  • Can't import photos from new "Photo" into iMovie 9.0.

Since upgrading to the new Photo app, iMovie 9.0 only recognizes Photo Booth.  Previously I could drag and drop selected photos into iMovie, but now can't import them that way or through the Photo Browser in iMovie.  Any suggestions?

Thanks for your insight.  Over the course of about a week, I did persistently try to upgrade to iMovie 10 but, despite the help of the Apple Support Community, could not get all my projects to migrate properly from iMovie 9 to 10.  Many of them Many of the 300 short projects come in a jumbled mess.  So I'm stuck with iMovie 9, which, in turn, means Photos won't connect properly when working with iMovie.  At least I know to stop trying and I'm able to go back to iPhoto without suffering any repercussions.

Sounds likr you may have a corrupted databae. Have a read of this article for help in recovering the situation:

iPhoto will not import pics that are in the iPhoto Library Folder - a sensible precaution against duplication.

How do I add characters (ie cartoon) to photos on imovie. I did this recently for the first time, now cannt remember how I did it. I tried going to "edit" drop down menu, then to "Characters". I  selected a character then  dragged it to the photo, but the character wouldn't stick.

    Hi ChrisGross,
I'm not quite clear the meaning that you described in the post. What's mean when you say "next custom column Title in a drop down" and "dropdown with the custom column headers" ? Please also explain the meaning of detail

It would be better to post screenshots here to let us know the detailed customization that you want to do. If you cannot post screenshots, you can post links(Maybe remove hyperlink if you account is not verfied) to the screenshots that saved in OneDrive.

  • Scrolling photo in iMovie-- how do I reverse the direction?

My boss created a video where he inserted a photo at the end and somehow made it scroll down, so we see the bottom of the image first, then it scrolls, ending with the top.  We want to reverse it so it scrolls so you see the top first, ending with the bottom.  He has no idea how he did it in the first place, so I have no way of reveresing it, and have not been able to find an answer elsewhere.  Version of iMovie is 10.0.2.  Instructions/help needed.  Thank you!

Sounds to me like he (intentionally or not) used the Ken Burns Effect.
The Ken Burns effect allows you to create movement in still photographs. You set a starting point and a finish point and iMovie pans between to the two points.
What I think you need to do is simply reverse the start and end points.
He's some information that should help:
