Help! Photoshop CS5
I hope I am in the right place here: but I find this forum stuff all too confusing took an hour to get here; ANYHOW CS5 Photoshop was working perfectly well until right now when suddenly it will not open at all!! no error messages, no nothing!! I need to get it open ASAP I have a deadline.. Any help would be REALLY appreciated! I am using windows 7 on a 64 bit machine.
Katharine, thank you for answering so promptly. I think perhaps, after hanging
around the blog, that I'm in over my head again. I don't even know what all CS5
can do, I was an upgrade from CS2, and I find that I am not using the new
version of PS because it doesn't do some things that CS2 does. So I'm falling
back on CS 2. However, I am using the new InDesign.
What I want to do is animate my paintings of fairies, with a goal of making
e-cards. I typed in "animate" and some names came up, and if I searched their
answers I thought maybe I could narrow down someone who is much more
knowledgeable than me and might be able to answer a question or two. For
example, I'm not sure I have the right program to try animating. Are you aware
of a program that might be useful?
I wrote, illustrated and designed my two berry fairy books and I know I left a
lot of things "on the table" for not knowing how to make my way.
Again, I appreciate your answer and will keep exploring around. If you know
anyone who would be willing to send me in the right direction, that would be
really helpful too.

Please help: Photoshop CS5 - Yosemite locked permissions?
Please I hope someone can help!
I just updated my older iMac with Yosemite, and reinstalled Adobe CS 5. What a mess. Neither Illustrator or InDesign will launch. Photoshop will work, but has problems. (Thank God I've not touched my newer, main studio working iMac's OS, where CS5 still runs fine.)
In trying to quit Photoshop (which won't respond to quitting and must be force-quit), I am getting the error message, "Could not save Preferences because the file is locked or you do not have necessary access privileges. Use the 'Get Info' command in the Finder to unlock the file or change permissions on the file of enclosing folders."
I searched around and found what was sure to be a promising fix posted some time ago (see below, "Here's the Fix"), but the problem is, when I hold down Option > Go ... Library to navigate to the "Adobe Photoshop CS5 Settings", the damned folder is actually EMPTY! There is no file to click on in order to get info on it! So I cannot even tamper with permissions. Ugh. It's bad enough the neither Illustrator nor InDesign will launch. What a sorry mess. I will not TOUCH my MacBook Pro laptop or main iMac. I will leave well enough alone. So glad I only messed with this one computer I rarely do anything on anymore. It could be that this is an old early 2009 iMac, sure, but I don't trust the new OS.
Anyone encounter similar, and have any workaround? Thank you in advance!
HERE'S THE FIX:
Navigate to /Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CS5 Settings
Select that file File>Get Info
At the very bottom under permissions, hit the + icon.
Add your user name from the list that pops up.
Highlight the user just added.
Click the gear icon to the right of the +/-
Choose make owner.
Click the gear icon again and choose apply to folder contents.
Open Photoshop.
That should do the trick!Have you tried saving as another layer-capable format, tif or psb?
Is there anything notable about the files – extraordinary number of layers, size or whatever?
Other than that have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, font validation, etc.)? -
Magic Wand help (Photoshop CS5)
Hi guys, I wondered if anyone can help me.
I have used the Magic Wand for a couple of years, taking out backgrounds etc to create transparent GIFs.
Now when I use it, the edges of whatever I have cut out are always jagged.
Does anyone know what this could be? I have anti-aliasing checked at the top, and haven't changed anything that I know of.
It seems to get worse when the image is resized and made smaller also.
Any help appreciated!Regular PNG.

Having looked through the questions and answers relating to CS5 Photoshop and Yosemite I tried reinstalling CS5 but it still has not resolved the issue and I cannot open Photoshop. Any ideas out there
Hi Dan,
See if any thing here helps: Photoshop CS5: Not working in Yosemite (Java Runtime)
If it doesn't, start a new forum thread with steps to get to your issue.

I have OS 10.10.2. When printing and trying to access the "Manage Custom Sizes" in the print window, my Photoshop CS5.1 crashes. I have not had problems up until now. Not sure what changed. Can anyone help me figure this out?
A preferences reset should fix it.
Macintosh - CMD-SHIFT-OPTION immediately after you double-click the PS icon.
Release those keys when you see the Delete Photoshop Settings dialog. Click "Yes" to do this.
You may have to go into the CS5 application folder and directly double-click the Photoshop.app there. -
Photoshop CS5 is suddenly crashing anytime I try to open a file - need help!
My Macbook was running quite slow this morning (hadn't restarted in a number of days) so I quit all applications and restarted. When I opened Photoshop, then selected the file I was last working on to open, PS crashed immediately (didn't get to open the file). I submitted a report, then restarted PS and tried again with anther file (thinking maybe I had a corrupt file)... same result. I can't get it to open ANYTHING without crashing...
Not sure if any of the crash report is helpful, but here's the first 1/4 or so:
I'm running Mac OS 10.7.5
Thank you!

Need help with a filter to use in Photoshop CS5
I am a novice so please be patient. Over the past 15 years or so I have been using a simple filter that I created in Filter Factory to do some analysis on aerial photographs. I am way behind on updates (currently using Photoshop CS (version 8)). I want to upgrade and am using a trial of CS5. After talking with customer support I've found there is no way to use this filter in CS5 and Filter Factory is no longer supported in the Photoshop suite. Can someone help me to create the same filter in Pixel Bender to use in Photoshop CS5? I will share the details of the filter if someone responds.
Thanks! Is the result a one channel image? The Pixel Bender language currently supports one and two channel images, in addition to three and four channel images, but unfortunately the tools do not. You should be able to fake the one channel output by marking only a single channel of a three or four channel image. In any case, give the filter, below, a try. It may not do exactly what you want but it should get you most of the way there. You'll want to duplicate it and modify the arithmetic to satisfy the second filter algorithm once you've got the filter tuned to fit your needs.

ThomasI have reports of 10.10.1 (Yosemite) having this same issue. I looked through the crash log and found this important clue:
1/1/15 5:58:40.784 PM Adobe Photoshop CS5[883]: WARNING: The Gestalt selector gestaltSystemVersion is returning 10.9.1 instead of 10.10.1. Use NSProcessInfo's operatingSystemVersion property to get correct system version number.
Call location:
Important Notes:
Adobe Photoshop CS5 uses the Gestalt Selector to determine which version of operating system you are using which results in the message above.
Apple deprecated (removed) support for Gestalt Selector in system 10.8 and now uses NSProcessInfo's operatingSystemVersion property instead.
Click here to access the Gestalt Manager Reference on the Apple Developer Website.
Note that in this case deprecated doesn't necessarily mean removed from the OS, it just means that the support for it is no longer available. Despite being "deprecated" the call to the Gestalt Selector will still return a value, there are two different ways to get that value.
Method One: Use the gestaltSystemVersion. Which reports 10.9.1.
Method Two: Use the gestaltSystemVersionMajor, gestaltSystemVersionMinor, and gestaltSystemBugFix to get each of the values and concatenate them. For Instance: Major Version = 10, Minor Version = 10, and Bug Fix Version = 1 then you have 10.10.1
The problem with using Method One is that the minor version is limited to one character. Since 10 is clearly greater than 1, gestalt reports it as the highest number it can, which is 9, hence 10.9.1 and not 10.10.1. This Gestalt bug has not be fixed on the Apple side because support for it was dropped with version 10.8.
The user reporting the issue was running version 12.0 of Photoshop. An attempt to update the version to 12.0.4 failed with the installer reporting the following:
The following updates were unable to install. If you wish to install these updates, please fix the problems below and retry:
Photoshop 12.0.4
Installation Failed
Time to dig around and see if I can figure out what is causing this to die. I am hoping the 12.0.4 update corrects the issue. -
Installing Photoshop CS5 on new Win8.1 - serial number not accepted. Help please!
Hello everybody,
I just wanted to install Photoshop CS5 on my Windows 8.1 64bit machine, which also happenes to be a new machine. The serial number provided in my Adobe account is not accepted by the installer! The information I could gather from the "support" area points me to a problem which is caused by not properly uninstalling the previous install, am I right? I did not know this. Also, I am no native speaker and feel a little lost on this.
Please help, I need to use my copy of PS CS5, thanks!clean and reinstall per Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6

Not sure if anyone can help but I have a copy of Photoshop CS5.1. Ever since it was installed, every now and again when I try do something simple like save a file or scale something using the Transform tool, in fact anything at all it comes up with "Could not complete your request because of a program error". Have thought about re-installing it but I have lost my serial number. I'm living in Ireland and trying to get to talk to someone in tech support is a complete joke. Any ideas what to do ? Thanks
Ianp69549740 have you tried reinstalling Photoshop CS5.1? If so do you receive any specific errors? What operating system are you using?

Searching the Help index in the trial version of Photoshop CS5
I'm working with a trial version of Photoshop CS5. I noted a post about the failure of PS Help to return any results when doing a local search. Apparently, there was a bug and a fix, as described here:
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/739143
Hi all: thanks for your messages here. There was a problem with the local help download package for Using Photoshop. The team has rebuilt the package and confirmed that local search for Photoshop is now working. Please update your local copy of Using Photoshop to update the help package. Here's what to do:
1. Open the Help app
2. Open the Preferences
3. Go to Local Content
4. Highlight/select Using Photoshop
5. Hit the Delete button.
6. Then click Update
The application should automatically download and update the new Help package.
When I get to step 3, Local Content does not produce any result; so I can't implement the fix. Is the "fully functional" trial version not fully functional?
I was searching for a way to set the timing for AutoSave, assuming there is an AutoSave. Any assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Doc_PitIn the help application when you open the preferences instead of local content,
click on Updater settings and click on Manually update local content, then
click manage now.
Added
Photoshop doesn't have an auto save function, but there are some plugins for autosaving in
photoshop. (there is a recent post on the forum about this)

Enter key disabled when Photoshop CS5 extended open on pc. Need help.
Photoshop CS5 64 bit is disabling the enter on my keyboard and it affects every app, not just PS. For instance I can't write an email while PS is open because I can't use returns. I can't use the crop tool in PS because hitting enter does nothing. I don't know if any other keys are being disabled by PS. Closing PS always fixes the problem. PS 64 bit is installed on my new pc. My old one (now broken) used the 32 bit version and was fine. Can anyone help?
I recall hearing about a problem like that with an older third party plugin.
But Photoshop itself couldn't cause that.
Have you tried disabling your third party plugins in Photoshop? -
How do you change the language to English in Photoshop CS5 after installation is completed? When I installed the program, English was not one of the language options so now everything reads in spanish. I can not read in spanish. Please help!!
Hi mujabee1111,
Please uninstall the application from your machine and then use the link below to download the installer for the CS5 download in English language:

Help with PageMaker 7.0, Transparent Backgrounds, and Feathering in Photoshop CS5
Hi all,
I am hoping someone here can help me out with a problem that I've been having for more than a week that I can't seem to figure out and it's driving me crazy.
I have a friend who's trying to put together a graphical instruction manual using PageMaker 7.0. My friend would like to have the borders on the pictures in the manual be softened and the background needs to be transparent, because each page in the manual will have a background watermark picture.
I am running into a number of problems. I have been using the feather and contrast options under Refine Edges in Photoshop CS5. While the picture looks and prints great from Photoshop, as soon as I save the picture to a file format that I can import into Word and then PageMaker (more on this step below), the feathering only either becomes white instead of transparent (the rest of the transparent part of the picture is still fine) or the feathering becomes horribly pixelated.
I am not sure which step in the process is causing the picture to degrade. The two file formats that seem to at least retain the transparency through the importing process are PNG and TIFF, albeit horribly pixelated. Could using these file formats cause the quality issue that I am describing? Could it be transferring it through Word first, as described below?
Is there are any other methods that one can use in Photoshop CS5 to soften the border of a picture other than feathering that may work better for these purposes.
Regarding the use of Word to retain the transparency into PageMaker... are there any better ways of accomplishing this? In order for the transparency to be retained, I need to add a text box, send it behind the picture, group it together, and copy the group over in order to retain the transparency using Word. This, needless to say, is a horribly huge pain in the ***. Any suggestions that could cut down the number of steps would be appreciated.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!Pagemaker does support transparency for placed files, just not
partial transparency like drop shadows or feathering that
would result in partial transparency.
You can place an object into pagemaker without getting the
white background by making a clipping path of the object
and then saving the file as tiff file. Then you would use
File>Place in pagemaker.
You could also put a background behind your object that matches the page in pagemaker
or use photoshop to make the layout.

I created a website layout template in Photoshop cs5 once i opened it into Dreamweaver i was trying to Align it to Center but it would not go center still stays to the left. I know that something is not right i am missing something and i am new to this not much experience with Dreamweaver, can someone please tell me how to fix this issue in a way a beginner would understand, i greatly appreciate the help.
Did you export HTML from PShop? Graphics apps generated code is not suitable for real web pages. It's really only acceptable for quick comps to show the client before you undertake the real work of building the layout in DW with HTML & CSS code.
To center pages, you need 3 basic things.
A valid doc type declaration on the first line of your code.
A stated width in px, % or ems.
A margin-left and margin-right of auto.
Copy & paste this code into a new, blank document in DW. Save and preview in browsers.
