Help! Photoshop made images suddenly look very bad once uploaded

I have a blog and everything for it (header, banners, etc.) is made in Photoshop and up until yesterday it was all fine. But yesterday I wanted to try to put a scanned picture for my header - which on my computer looks white, but on the web it looked gray, so I decided to go back to what I had. When I uploaded my old header it now looked blue/gray-ish, very pixelated and really strange. When I tilted my screen (laptop computer) I could see some weird edges around the shapes that I had on that header. I ulso tried uploading to Picasa web albums but the same thing happens. I tried also making another image in Photoshop to test it out - it was white with big spots in green colour and when uploaded I could see the edges of the entire image even though it was white (it didn't blend with the rest of the background like it used to), and when I tilted my screen I saw pink edges around those big dots and it looked all fuzzy almost like it's moving (like on those very old TV's when you lose an image and it's snowy looking).
I use photoshop for my blog often and I really need this sorted out ASAP, so please help me!

I have the same problem. I did not use photoshop for my header though, I just used paint coz it's easier. I also tried doing the header in pixlr and pic monkey, but the result is still the same. The header still looks grayish.
To make the header blend in with the background, I changed my outer and main background to grayish white.

  • Need Help All Files in ACR look VERY Bad

The best way I can explain it is my RAW file's look like a GIF file. Mostly in the darker tones/shodows of the files. I have run some "process of elimination" tests to try to isolate where the challange is coming from.
    1. Raw Files are stll good, I have run them on another computer and the image is great.
    2. Moniter and Graphics Card are Fine, I open the RAW file in Picasa 3.0 and images look fin on my P.C
I am currently Ruining Vista 64
    I am using
    Photoshop 11.0.1
    Bridge 3.0.0.464
    Lightroom 2.5
    ACR 5.5
Any one out there ever run into this challange?
    Please Help.

I can't get mine to look bad like yours.  With default settings, except Recovery = 100 and Contrast = 100, I still don't see the posterization nor the greens you're seeing, although the colors are a bit strong due to the contrast setting.  If you've changed more things than Recovery and maybe Contrast, perhaps post those settings.
Does it look ok in ACR and then just bad in Photoshop or is it bad in ACR the same way?
I wonder if you have a bad monitor profile that only Photoshop is fully utilizing and having issues with?  If you're on a calibrated system, you might temporarily setting your monitor profile to sRGB (or maybe AdobeRGB if on a Mac) and see if the Photoshop image changes.
I have attached a yours/mine screen capture showing what I see when I max out Recovery and Contrast in an attempt to duplicate what yours looks like.  I have used LR to better document the conversion settings, but I also tried it in ACR 5.5 and Photoshop and don't really see much difference if any...where both should be using the ACR 5.5 engine.

  • [SOLVED] KTorrent buttons suddenly look very 'boxy'

I'm not sure if this is a KTorrent issue, or an XFCE issue, or some OTHER issue...  but after a recent system upgrade (which included a lot of kde-libs, I think) my ktorrent suddenly looks very "boxy" (the buttons are all very plain rectangles instead of the nice, "polished" buttons they used to be.    KTorrent and Dolphin are the only two KDE apps I run on this box--and Dolphin has the same ugly buttons...
Any suggestions would be most welcome...

I ran into the same problem on my openbox setup after a recent upgrade.
Try running "qtconfig" from the terminal and changing the GUI style.

  • After compressor, video looks very bad

I exported my Final Cut Pro timeline using Compressor,
because I want to convert to mpeg2 to burn to DVD.
After it is exported and in compressor, I choose the
Apple setting for DVD Best Performance 90 min 4:3.
The total time of my timeline is about five minutes.
After it is converted, I play it back in the Simulator and it looks really bad, grainy, blurry, like a poor quality vhs video.
I don't know why this is.
    Can someone help please.
    thanks.

    thanks for the reply.
I am judging my video by playing it back in the Viewer, when I add it to a track. I haven't burned the DVD yet.
    Here's what I'm doing:
Export from FCP to Compressor (this is a single 5 min QT movie file, that I captured straight from my DV cam to FCP)
my presents in Compressor are: 1 pass CRB,
mpeg2 elementary, NTSC CCIR 601/DV, 29.97, frame controls: automatic, 4:3, Average data rate: 4.5, bottom first.
HOWEVER, I have also followed the same steps on another 5 min FCP project, this one consists of
multiple clips from several different sources, with effects, filters, much more complicated, and it looks great ... with the same settings as above.
Don't know what is the problem with the 5 min QT movie.
After compressor, it looks like bad vhs video.
    Any ideas?

  • LR5 - when exporting and uploading to FB photos look very bad

I just upgraded from LR3 to LR5 - when I export and upload to Facebook - the photos look horrible. Very unclear. Looks like they got compressed in a strange way. I am doing everything the same way I did it in LR3 but getting differnet results. Any help would be very appreciated.

I am using LR5. So does that mean everyone using LR5 will have this problem.
When I export to my desk top they look fine. But when I send them throught eamil or through FB they get all weird looking. I am so confused.

  • Need help with getting images to look smooth (without the bitmap squares) around the edges. When I transfer the image from pictures, it sets itself into the InDesign layout, but with square edges. I need to find out how to get it to look smooth?

Need to find out how to get my images transferred into an InDesign layout without the rough edges, as with a bit map image, but to appear with smooth edges in the layout. I can notice it more when I enlarge the file (pic). How can I get it to appear smooth in the finished layout. Another thing too that I noticed; it seems to have effected the other photos in the layout. They seem to be
pixelated too after I import the illustration (hand drawn artwork...)? Any assistance with this issue will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

No Clipboard, no copy & paste, as you would not get the full information of the image.
When you paste you can't get the image info from the Links panel, but you can get resolution and color info either via the Preflight panel or by exporting to PDF and checking the image in Acrobat.
Here I've pasted a 300ppi image, scaled it, and made a Preflight rule that catches any image under 1200ppi. The panel gives me the effective resolution of the pasted image as 556ppi. There are other workflow reasons not to paste—you loose the ability to easily edit the original and large file sizes—but pasting wouldn't cause a loss in effective resolution or change in color mode.

  • Headphones suddenly hear very bad - severe loss of quality

    Hi everybody.
I just noticed this. It is the first time this has happened.
I plugged in my headphones in my MBP and the quality is very poor. There seems to be a loss of frequency. For example, in a song the voice seems to be ver far away, muffled (it sounds nothing like this coming out through the in-built speakers). I'm not sure how to describe it. I guess it could be comparable to that loss of quality when you put the headphone jack halfway through - I assure you, it is not the case now.
Also I checked this with 2 different headphones - the same.
I suspect there's something wrong with the wiring (on the MPB's part) or something like this. I hope it's not, though. A thing like this could mean that I have to turn it in to some service for weeks, right? My laptop is my primary computer so this would be a harsh blow.
Has this happened to anybody else? Any advice? I hope I'm being really stupid and I just fiddled with some setting somewhere. Thanks a lot.

I have become convinced that my headphone out port is damaged.
So I would like to know - if anybody can answer this - can the people over at the Apple service change the port? Or do they need to change the whole motherboard (is that the term?). I'm asking because I'm concerned about the money involved in the operation. Am I looking at a reasonable price or at something comparable to purchasing a new one?
If anybody can shed some light, please. Thanks a lot.

  • I have updated to ios5 and latest pages and it has changed table borders and header colours etc, the colour I was using was imported and there border lines are v thick, help has made my docs look rubbish

I have updated o iOS 5 and updated my pages but it as altered my documents, layout, and tables, changing header row colour and thickness of border lines, some thick some thin within same table, if I put default it puts all the lines back, but I only wan them in 2 out f the 4 columns, If I try to change each section then I have to select all borders as default does the whole table, but if I chose all then the order lines are all thick is there any way of changing thickness of lines, and also does anyone know how to pu in a table of contents? I'm currently having to manually put in the info in the table which is v long. Thank you very much

  • My Flash Site looks very low in quality (I'm viewing in High Quality)

    Hi all,
I am wondering why this Flash site I've designed is so rough
looking (indecipherable text, pixellated edges etc.).
Because I was working with content already created in
Illustrator (10), I copied them over to Flash (CS3) as vectors and
resized them. I'm guessing this method may be a big factor but even
text I added myself doesn't look as good as it should (namely the
buttons and text in the 'Lotus' section); I added my own text using
    Flash.
Here are two examples of the site (only the Lotus and
Portfolio buttons work, clicking the Change and Grow icon takes you
    back to the home page):
    800x550
    Resolution
    Scales according
    to window size
    Also, if you go
    here you will see a
    simple jpeg.
I'd prefer to keep the site at 800x550 resolution without
rescaling but as you can see that isn't a good idea.
    [L=This
    site]http://ti.arc.nasa.gov/destination/iss/flash/index.html{/L]
uses very small text (in the case of the menu on a black
    background) yet looks fine.
Also, the thumbnail on the Portfolio page looks very bad even
though it wasn't resized in any way using Flash (I reduced the size
of the original image in Photoshop and changed the DPI from 200 to
72, then imported it into Flash as a jpeg.
Any help at all is very much appreciated!
    Niall
PS. I changed the text to bold to make it a little clearer
though I'd prefer to keep it regular.

"I copied them over to Flash (CS3) as vectors and resized
them" - what do you mean you copied over to Flash? Do you mean
    import?
"text I added myself doesn't look as good as it should" -
    check your anti-aliasing in Flash
"I'd prefer to keep the site at 800x550 resolution without
rescaling but as you can see that isn't a good idea." - no,
actually that is a good idea - not to rescale - any time you resize
a flash document with rastered graphics, you will get distortion
'uses very small text (in the case of the menu on a black
background) yet looks fine." - they are using pixel fonts
"Also, the thumbnail on the Portfolio page looks very bad
even though it wasn't resized in any way using Flash (I reduced the
size of the original image in Photoshop and changed the DPI from
200 to 72, then imported it into Flash as a jpeg." - looks fine to
me (on the unscaled version), but I don't have anything else to
compare it to - check your image compression settings in flash
(both under Publish Settings/flash tab and when you double click
the bitmap in the library you can control compression settings.
What level of compression are you using when saving from Photoshop?
The word "graphic design" looks better here
    http://www.lotusgraphicdesign.net/
    then here
    http://www.lotusgraphicdesign.net/small.html
, but they are different sizes. Which is the original size?
Another note: "Because I was working with content already
created in Illustrator (10), I copied them over to Flash (CS3) as
vectors and resized them." if you actually imported an ai file into
flash, I know it also imports clipping masks and things of that
nature. When you resize an imported ai file, you may be getting
weird results from also resizing the clipping masks, too. When I
import an ai file, I break up everything as much as possible.
Depending on how you import your ai file, bitmaps will be created,
so make sure you stay away from bitmaps when possible when resizing
    any symbol.
That's all I can really think of.

  • PAR Correction Quality very bad in CS5

    Hi,
in earlier versions of After Effects it was possible to set the quality of the Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction to "high" resulting in a very nice and clean preview. In CS5 this seems to be not possible anymore, because the standard and already set option in CS5 is "high". Anyway - the PAR correction looks very bad in CS5, giving me choppy vertical lines. Is there any chance to get a clean result like in CS4?
    Thanx!

The Zoom Quality preference also affects pixel aspect ratio correction for previews.
Keep in mind that the pixel aspect ratio correction setting in viewer panels is just a preview setting; it has no effect on final output.

  • Quality looks great until I upload final video

Everytime I edit in iMovie, the footage looks really sharp and clean, and still looks pretty good when I export to my desktop. However,
when I try to share on Youtube, the quality decreases drramatically. It often looks so pixalated that you can't tell what you are looking at. Is there a different way I should be exporting? I've tried using the highest and second highest quality export options, but they both look pretty bad once they go online.

Thanks for the excellent suggestion.  I did as you suggested and started by turning off all compression and gradually adding it back in. For me, selecting the following settings worked and left no "ghosts" on the video:
Compress Full Motion Recording SWF file
    Retain Slide Quality Settings
Thanks again for all of the assistance.

  • When i transfer an photoshop image in Indesign, this one come out in very bad quality and pixelise even once print

    Hello,
I have an issu, every image i bring or change trough Photoshop CS6 and transfer to Indesign CS6 or Illustrator CS6 comes out in very bad quality and very pixelated whyle printed.
The original image in photoshop is 29x32 cm with 300 ppp.
When i transfer in Indesign, i have to reduce the site via the adjustment button and it comes in terrible quality.
It never happen before, its just recently, and i didn't change my way to save or the properties of my Photoshop, so if someone can help me to resolve this problem, i will be glad.
    Regards,
    Marie

Before I should save the image as a PSD (without Clipping Mask and dont flatten the image). the print would come out different colours...not the same.
Are you saying the printer can't get a .PSD to output, or a PSD's color is unpredictable? Sounds like your printer can print .PSDs, but you  have a color management problem. By different colors do you mean that the printed CMYK color values are different than what was in the placed PSD? If that's the case it may be that the PSD had a profile that conflicted with the InDesign document profile and you are getting unexpected color conversions somewhere in the workflow.

  • Exporting images looks really bad!

    Forum,
I am exporting images for a slideshow to make in DVD Studio Pro for my final outputted project.
The problem is that the images look really choppy and very bad. They look interlaced.
I'm working with NTSC DV. Is this normal?
Would it help is I made a Freeze Frame in FCP, then exported it as an image?
    System:
    OS X 10.4.5
    FCP 5.0.4
    QT 7.0.4
    Thanks

hi fcp - I take them straight off the tl and go into photoshop with them to tidy them up. Use the deinterlace filter in ps.

  • All photos suddenly look grainy UNTIL I zoom in [Photoshop CC]

A couple of days ago, all the sudden, every picture I bring up in Photoshop CC looks very grainy until I zoom in a couple of times. When I bring it up in Bridge, it looks fine, even after I edit it in PS. A few days ago I had been working on photos from the same photo session and they didn't do it. Now when I bring up one of those photos from several days ago they also look grainy, too - but only when I view them full size in Photoshop CC. When I zoom it, they look normal, but I can't edit them zoomed in. I restarted the computer but that didn't help.Do I need to change a setting in Photoshop? Hope this makes sense. Thanks for any help. ~Valerie

Hi, I am having exactly the same problem.  Very frustrating as I have deadlines to meet.  Graphics that I am placing into a PSD were designed by graphic designers, and have used them before, but suddenly they are very grainy.  I have looked at the suggested solution but Performance is set at 4. I've attached a picture should like as well as what the PSD file looks as a screen shot. Hope that someone can help.  Many thanks.

  • AppleWorks 6.2.9 on OSX 10.4.6 imbedded images print VERY badly

Ever since my upgrade from an older version (don't remember which) of AppleWorks on OSX 10.2.x - in that arrangement all was well, now with AW 6.2.9 and OSX 10.4.6 every image I import by any means into an AW document of any type zooms on the screen just fine, very detailed, but prints VERY badly.
"Very badly" can be defined as, any text which is part of the image is blocky and becomes almost unreadable; all elements of the image blur at every edge - basically, look at a picture through an unfocused lens and you'll get the idea.
Any other application prints crystal clear using the same image files that AW messes up. I used to use AW to make my business letterhead, business cards, logos, media labels, etc. Now I'm doing all that by coding directly in PostScript because AW won't print nice copy.
I've been trying to find any settings in AW prefs regarding aliasing, smoothing, dithering, you name it, and nothing I've tried makes any difference.
Any ideas where to go to tell AW to play nice with the printer like it's ancestors used to?
Again, EVERY other application prints perfectly, so the printer, driver, cabling, etc cannot be the issue. Only when (and everytime) AW gets involved does printing get munged.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer me.
    iBook x 2 = G4 + G3   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   lots of pro audio packages....

    Thanks to all who answered.
I'm thinking it would have been nice of Apple to let us know that they were going to change something as wide-ranging as how images are imported into AW documents. As was mentioned by Yvan, the 72dpi limit was apparently introduced with AW6. Thanks for the clarification, also. I suspected that the OS (10.4.6 for me) and drivers were clean; since every other app I have prints perfectly. The very same files used to import into AW(older) and print fine just as they were on the older system.
Peggy, yes, most of the images in question were .tiff and .jpg formats, usually from a scan or a conversion from a .ps or .eps into a .jpg or .tiff.
Not being a graphic or visual guy (audio yes, but not graphics...), I had no idea what most of the plethora of image types offered by the "save as..." dialog were about, and had no time to try them all one by one. PICT format is fairly deep into the list, so it would've taken me a while to explore the possibilities that far.
But thank you Peggy, using Preview to convert to PICT format lets me import the images I need and prints them acceptably. I still think raw Postscript is a bit cleaner yet, but for most of my needs the conversion to PICT is so far solving the problem. And if anyone wonders, yes I really do code stuff by hand directly in Postscript. And Perl, and C, and Prolog, and.... So good of OSX to include my favorite editor, emacs! (Old Unix admins never die - we just spawn child processes...or fork and exec - take your pick!
Hope, interesting that your Intel-based machine had such a problem from the start. Even more interesting that a reload fixed it. Curious what may have been/not been installed in the original factory load.... Glad I'm still on PowerPC architecture - time-tested base of reliability there.
I did look at the tip from Sharon Joiner (linked by Yvan), but compared to Peggy's suggestion, Sharon's tip seems a bit more involved than it needs to be - at least for my needs.
    Again, thank you to everyone.
