  • Calling all iPod Classic owner who wants to use iPod Camera Connector

Dear All Honoured iPod Classic users a.k.a Photo Enthusiats,
Good day. I have recently bought an iPod Classic and iPod Camera Connector. As many of us may be into photography. I believe you may agree with me, it is more expensive to buy CF Card especially when you travelling on holiday or assignment. Moreover 1x 8GB CF card is never enough.
It is troublesome to bring your laptop together when you are travelling. So the best option to transfer all your photos from the camera is to use an iPod Classis and Camera Connector. This helps you to continue shooting without worrying running out of CF card for your next day shooting.
Currently iPod Classic has firmware v1.0.3 but iPod Camera Connector only works for iPod v.1.1 and above. So, in conclusion ... i urge every member here to send in their feedback to Apple ... logon to http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipod.html , so that Apple will act on it sooner rather than we play wait and see game.
So, logon today and send in your feedback. Who knows, tomorrow we will have the iPod Classic firmware updates that allow us to use iPod Camera Connector and this will solve our problem and save our money in CF card.
    Cheers! Happy New Year.

    Hi Josh,
Interesting web site. I holiday in the UK (my passport ran out in '91 and I haven't felt the need to replace it yet) and off to Shropshire in September.
Lovely, the UK is actually a surprisingly excellent place to retreat to, despite the occasional weather issues.

I had looked at the Zeppelin but it is a tad too pricey. I began thinking of spending around £50 - £60 but now looking at around £250 for the [Avanti|http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2009/01/13/reviewdab_radio_ipod_dock_pure_avantiflow>. It is a little too large to be portable but it will fit in the car to be taken to our cottage holidays and has an amazing range of features and a sub woofer in the base as you can see from the review.
Yes, if you have the money, the B&W is great, but as I said, it's only a speaker.

The Zeppelin may be an excellent speaker but being that much more expensive and also nothing more than a speaker I am still with the Avanti at this point - we often like to listen to the local radio stations when away. I will look at the Chronos though and other PURE products.
All of the PURE products are excellent, good luck finding one to suit your needs!

  • Using iPod Camera Connector on the new iPod Classic

Hi, I have successfully used the iPod Camera Connector on my old Classic iPod to back up my camera. Would like to move with the times and buy the new iPod Classic but don't want to loose the ability to back up - will the camera connector work with the new Classic please? (and has anybody done it?)

Why can't this work with the classic?
another thread states "as the iPod touch doesn't support "disk use" (it doesn't mount as a hard drive on your computer)."
Well, my classic does support disk use so I would like the option to use this. Is it really that hard to have a software update to recognise a piece of software that has presumably been programmed before for previous models

  • Anybody used iPod camera connector with Fuji finepix S9500?

    Hi there,
Like many of you I've looked at the compatability list on the Apple site and my Finepix S9500 is not there. Has anybody been successful downloading pictures either from the camera via camera connector, or using a media reader connected to iPod and XD memory card?

OK, I've been to the Applestore and bought one of these gizmos and wouldn't you know it, but it worked first time. Great little piece of kit!

  • Why I can not use IPod camera-connector with IPod touch ?

    please help !

Because Apple didn't make the hardware compatible. No one here is going to have any other answers. I would point out that there are apparently differences in the docking port, either hardware or software. Older third party docks, as an example, don't work properly or at all with the newer iPods. I suspect it's related to authentication/DRM issues for movie rentals. This could be related but we'll probably never know.
    +But why????????+
    Because Steve said so!

  • Problem with ipod camera connector

i am trying to use the ipod camera connector. there are 3 recurring problems.
sometimes, the ipod says that there is no picture in the connected camera. in the apple support website, it says that i have to reconnect the camera connector but that does not help.
recently, altough all pictures are still on the ipod in the same files as before (i have checked by using the ipod as an external drive), the ipod said that all rolls were empty.
finally, when going on the "photos" part of the ipod, it sometimes does not even show the "import" menu and therefore does not allow viewing the existing pictures altough they are on the ipod.
    any help welcome

I have the same problem as you but after reading through all the posts I found this worked for me "Ipod reset (on hold, off of hold, press menu and centre buttons for 6 seconds) then after it has rebooted unplug then replug your camera connector (at this point it may well work but if you still get "Unsupported device" or no card inserted then power cycle your camera, a bit long winded but this is the only way I could get my Canon 20d to work!

  • IPod Camera Connector for the iPod Touch

I have an iPod Camera Connector for a previous model of iPod. Now that I have an iPod Touch, when I try to use it I get an error message that states this device is not supported. Has iPod created a Camera Connector to upload pictures from a card larger than a 512mg card (ie a 2+ GB card or larger) that is supported by the iPod touch?
    Thanks,
    Denice

I don't believe so, as the iPod touch doesn't support "disk use" (it doesn't mount as a hard drive on your computer).

  • IPod unmounts when downloading photos imported via iPod camera connector

I've got a fifth generation (video) iPod. I recently purchased an iPod camera connector and used it on a recent trip. I took over 500.jpgs and transfered them successfully from my Nikon D200 camera to my iPod. Now I'm trying to download them into iPhoto. Upon connecting my iPod to my iMac iPhoto automatically asked if I wanted to download the 500+ photos and I said yes. It began the download and then stopped part way through "roll" #2 of the six rolls on the iPod. For some reason the iPod unmounted itself and the iPod icon dissapeared from my desktop. So I disconnected it and started over. This time the iPod unmounted literally seconds after appearing on the desktop.
When I go into the iPod it appears as if all of my photos are there. My problem is that I'm not able to get them onto my iMac.
One thought I had was to enable my iPod for use as a hard drive in order to simply drag and drop the photos but I'm somewhat affraid to do this. I don't want it to wipe out all of my photos. Also, I'm guessing it will just unmount itself again anyway.
    Any thoughts for me?
    Thanks,
    Ben

I have a Nikon D5100 and I typically shoot Raw + JPEG and I take pics in large size on my Nikon.  When I transfer using the SD card and camera connection kit, my pics are regular size.  I'm wondering if the fact they are RAW only is causing your issue.  Try traking some pics in full size using either RAW + JPEG or just JPEG and then transfer and see if the resolution is larger.

  • Smartmedia 128 MB to iPod via iPod Camera Connector?

I have a Smartmedia card reader by Sansdisk that works great on my Mac. I wondered if I could connect it direct to the Apple iPod Camera Connector and my 5G iPod to load photos? How much iPod battery would be drained for the full 128 MB transfer? Or should I use the cable from my Olympus C-700 to go to the Camera Connector? Trouble is I can't find the right power adapter for the C-700, so I'd be draining its batteries too. I thought maybe if I used the media reader I could save battery on my camera at least. Is it possible?

Tried to connect Apple's own iPod Camera connector to the camera as well as to my Sans Disk card reader. Neither worked. So the question is answered in that it isn't possible presently to make it work.

  • How fast is the new iPod Camera Connector

I'm wondering how fast the new $29 Apple iPod Camera Connector is for offloading images from a fast CF card using a fast USB 2.0 card reader? (The older Belkin system for the regular iPods was too slow, in my opinion, to be usable for high capacity memory cards with lots of images.)
If this new option from apple is fast, I'm going to buy an iPod photo right away!!!!!!!!!!!
    Thanks!

Any chance that you can test with a card reader to see if that works? That is, can you plug an external card reader into the camera connector, remove the card from your camera and plug it in to the card reader, and transfer to the iPod that way? (This would allow one to not burn their camera battery while downloading the images, or to swap out cards and continue taking photos while the first card was dumped to the iPod.)
The Coolpix 3200 is apparently not USB 2 / high-speed compliant, so especially cool would be if you could test with a camera or card reader (if that works at all) that supported USB 2, and report on the speed.
(Yeah, I know I'm asking for a lot. Just in case you're able to check this out.)
While we're at it - any other comments, pro or con, about the camera connector or experience so far?
    Thanks!

  • IPod Camera Connector Speed

I bought the iPod Camera Connector for my Nikon D80 & it works like a charm.....but..... is very slow. It's a slick idea, but cumbersome
It took 40 minutes to download a 1GB card (Sandisk Ultra II) with 260 photos - I want to use the iPod as a backup for photo files while on vacation for 2 weeks.
Does anyone know if there is any way to speed this up?
Is it firmware with the iPod or firmware with the connector itself that controls the download? If so, how about an update APPLE!!! Are you listening??
    Thanks!

i have a belkin and transfer NEF pics to my ipod. an estimate would be 10-15s per pic at 7-8mb each.
    thought that was pretty slow.

  • Apple iPod Camera Connector(how it works?)

Does the Apple iPod Camera Connector just convert a USB to a apple dock connector? Can the same be achieved by using the USB cable and a USB Female-Female adaptor?

It is the camera's transfer protocol/how the camera transfers the images.

  • Questions about the ipod camera connector...

    Hi,
i got some questions about the ipod camera connector.
1)Is the camera connector compatible with the Sony camera DSC-P93A ?
In fact, this camera got PTP protocol.
    PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol) Oui
Marque PIM (Print Image Matching) Oui
    PictBridge™ Oui
So, do the camera need to have the three following protocols to be compatible with the camera connector ?
=>Mass Storage, PTP, and Type 4
Or maybe does it need only one of it??
    2) Is it compatible with a USB memory card reader?
    Thank you

Wel, if i've right understood what you said, my camera is compatible because it got PTP protocol ?
That's weird, cause i wrote a mail to sony to ask them about the compatibility of my camera, but they answered that it wasn't. But of course, i'll prefer to believe you than them !

  • New Nano and iPod Camera Connector?

I just bought the new iPod Nano (3rd generation) and the iPod Camera Connector.
The iPod is not recognizing the camera connector. When I connect the camera connector to the iPod, I get this message: "Unsupported accessory is not supported".
The genius Apple salesman assured me that it would work. Meanwhile, the camera connector works fine with my iPod Color 60GB model.
Can anyone help me out? Has anyone tried this? I have a funny feeling, (even though the salesman assured me it would work.) that it is not compatible.
    Thanks!

None of the new iPods (Classic, Touch, or 3rd gen Nano) support the camera connector. Based on the fact that other dock connecting accessories which worked with the older iPods don't work with the new ones, it's probably a hardware difference in the dock.
Apple has not announced any new camera connector that will work with the new iPods. Sorry.
