Help playing video

either im stupid or my ipod is stupid and im not sure which, lol. when i go to video and try to play a music video or a tv show (i havent tried w a movie yet), it plays the sound, but the screen looks like it does when im just playing a song - the little pic of the cd cover w the name of the song and artist and then the time at the bottom. i know that if i select a music video under music, its supposed to do this, but if i select it through video, then shouldnt it be playing a video? i just bought the ipod today, so i could be doing something wrong, but i dont think its that complicated. is something wrong with my ipod? thanks in advance for your help!

Hi. I have an old 2GHZ core duo with 2 GB ram. My computer plays videos normally, but after about 20 or 30 seconds, it gets really really choppy and the video starts to refresh going from top to the bottom.
Does anyone have any ideas?

When video performance decreases, a failing graphics card is always a consideration.
What you've posted here could mean the card is failing, but the only way to know is have an Apple tech pop the machine open and inspect the parts.
I've heard other users have issues when their machines reach high temperatures, and an external cooling pad has helped.

Need help playing videos in iPhoto!

I got my iMac two weeks ago after switching from a 2004 80GB Dell Dimension (Windows XP Service Pack 3) I successfully imported my parents' photos and videos, our iTunes library, and all my photos. For some reason however, my videos won't play. It says it cannot find the original resource file. I used an external HDD to transfer everything over. Should I try importing my photos/videos again or do I have to take more drastic measures?
(I'm not sure if this will help, but my parent's videos are .mp4 files while mine are .mov.)

That comes up when the original file in the library is missing.
If you bring over the videos again copy them to a folder on the Desktop and play them with Quicktime Player before importing into iPhoto to verify that you've got a working file.

Need help playing video in elements 9

I have windows 7 and just got priemiere elements 9. When it plays my .mov videos it only plays sound for a few seconds then stops. The video continues to play with no sound. If I open the same video in Quicktime or in photoshop elements 9 it plays fine. The whole reason I got this program was to edit my video and make movies of family events. What am I doing wrong and how to I fix it.

Welcome to the forum.
The MOV file extension is but a "wrapper," and almost anything can be in that wrapper. This ARTICLE will give you some background, and will also tell you how to "peek inside" the wrapper. What is the CODEC of your MOV files?
Also, note that there is a big difference between using a simple player to play an AV file, and editing that same file.

It's not a bad install of Mountain Lion. I've had the same thing happen to me, but it affected not only Mail, but a variety of other programs including iPhoto and MS Office, where I had to delete preferences, caches, and reinstall the OS as well as the program itself. I'm still having issues with Mail, so I've gone to another program.
Everything was fine upon the initial install. I restarted my iMac about two weeks after the install, and that's when the issues began to happen. I've reinstalled Mountain Lion twice, but the same issues arise.
As I mentioned above, you'll need to figure out which preferences are causing the issue, then reinstall the program, as a fresh reinstallation will do you no good unless you wipe the drive completely.

you have to install avs video converter and then well im not going to translate everything but it explains you all the settings to put to have a video for you ipod. after it was converted like the website says open itunes and then drop the conveerted file to itunes and it will work (well it did with me)

Are you still running OS X 10.4 or some version of Tiger?
Can you export the movie, Format=Original, to the Desktop and open it with Quicktime there, either by double clicking on the movie file or dragging it onto the Quicktime Player application?
If you can open the movie by dropping it on the QT Player application then try the following:
1 - select the movie and type Command+i to bring up its Info Window.
2 - go to the Open With menu and select Quicktime Player.
3 - click on the Apply to All button.
4 - reboot.
5 - open iPhoto and try playing a movie.

You can't play movies in iPhoto. But, you can in quicktime, which is installed along with the OS. Just double click on the .mov file and quicktme should start.

Try to download the application VLC.
It is a media player that should be able to play any audio or video file you may have. If your videos play flawlessly using that application, then the issue is with iTunes and Quicktime, as they are both essentially similar software types when it comes to playing media.
In that case you may need to install a plug-in file called Perian, in order for the videos to play correctly within iTunes or at least Quicktime...

i have a ipod nano 8gb 3rd generation i just got a couple of weeks ago. i got it, read the directions, got the latest downloads, loaded itunes, put my music, videos, everything on itunes, and connected my i sync all of my music on mai ipod with no problem. but when i sync my videos onto my ipod....THERE IS NO SOUND!! the videos were previously converted before i synced them on the ipod. PLEASE HELP ME RESOLVE THIS PLEASE!!

QuickTime expects video files with separate video and audio tracks, but many MPEG formats used a muxed (multiplexed) single track that contains both. Therefore, when you convert videos in iTunes to iPod format they only show the video and no sound since iTunes (really QuickTime) is not looking for the audio track within the video track and it gets lost.
