Help please!! -- Another iTunes won't work thread.

My iTunes has suddenly stopped working, here are the details:
-Windows XP Home Edition
-Norton System Works
There are some VERY strange 'symptoms':
When I run iTunes, the task manager shows it in the PROCESSES list (itunes.exe), yet not on the APPLICATIONS list.
ALSO, when I try to end the process, it doesn't end. NO error messages, no nothing. The confirmation comes up, I hit ok, and the process just stays there.
Another problem is that after I run iTunes, I can no longer launch any other application. Even things that were once running (ie firefox.exe), once closed, can not be opened. (By this, I mean they become like iTunes, and appear only in the processes list). I am forced into completely restarting the computer to use any program that is not open.
-Steps already tried-
1. Scanned for Spyware/Adware using fully updated Spybot S&D, Adaware, and SpywareBlaster.
2. Full System Scan with fully updated Norton System Works (Norton Anti Virus)
3. Disabled every part of Norton, then uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes.
-same exact problems still arise-
Quicktime works fine, just the iTunes which causes problems, all other applications open and close fine.
-Thank you in advance for any support and suggestions-

Norton System Works consists of Norton Protection Center:
One Button Checkup
Norton Utilities
Norton Antivirus
and Norton Ghost
There is no firewall, as in no "personal firewall" feature.
When I disabled Norton to try and reinstall, I completely disabled every feature including "Internet worm protection" and "Spyware Protection" (which is a part of Norton Antivrus)

  • Help, Please. .f4v won't work in browser?!?

I am a newbie and trying to design my own site so please don't laugh too hard if this is an easy question.
I just created a site using Flash CS4 then published to Dreamweaver CS4, then published to server using Dreamweaver via FTP. All files seem to be on server ( .swc, .fla, .html. f4v, .flv) but .f4v video won't playback on the internet.
    more info:
video plays fine in Flash when testing movie and video works fine when checking in browser with Dreamweaver. Do I have to point to the video some how? I have tried everything that I know, please help.
    Thank you in advance.

I should have mentioned I use GarageBand 2009.  I've read other posts all over the web where people have trouble with this Tascam US122 but with the older Leopard versions.  I had no problem with ordinary Leopard 10.5.6 - it's only since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, and it's only in GB.
I've tried a powered hub which has helped others, but doesn't help with my problem.
I reallly only want to know which driver/drivers are the problem.
Then I can work out a solution, even if it means buying a new interface.  So long as I can't identify what the problem is, I'm not prepared to buy new equipment that might make no difference at all.
Bad luck with your electronic drums macuserrich - it's  annoying isn't it!!!!

  • Help please!  itunes no longer works at all

Hi! I've been dealing with this for weeks now, and thought i'd ask for help. When I try to open itunes it sends me the message that says "itunes has encountered a problem and needs to close." and then it gives me the option of sending an error report or not. This has been happening for weeks. It seems that it is a problem with quicktime so i have tried to uninstall quicktime, but when i do that it says that there was a fatal error and quicktime could not be uninstalled. So then I have just tried to update it with the new update for quicktime and for itunes, both separately and together and neither of those fix the problem. I then downloaded the windows install cleanup and deleted the windows intall on both itunes and quicktime and then re-downloaded, but still itunes will not open, i only get the same message that hays that it has encountered a problem." Also, when I tried to download itunes before it told me that itunes could not install because there was a problem with quicktime. Help, I have pretty much exhausted my options. I don't know what else to do at this point! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

okay, something peculiar has been installed on your PC at some stage. (the vast bulk of those should also be showing up in your \Program files\QuickTime folder.)
let's try extricating ourselves from this.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Next, we’ll manually remove leftover program files and folders.
    1. On the Start menu, click My Computer (or double-click My Computer on the Desktop).
    2. In My Computer, open Local Disk.
    3. Open Program Files.
    4. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    5. Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    6. Remove the files and folders mentioning "QuickTime" that you listed in your previous reply.
    7. Restart your computer.
next, we'll try to get a fresh copy of QuickTime into your PC by doing a repair install of itunes.
switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the repair install.
go into Add/Remove and select itunes. click "Change" and then click "Repair".
if the repair install goes through okay, restart the PC and try launching itunes again. does it launch properly now?

  • Rachyl Help Please!  iTunes won't open!

Whenever I click on the iTunes icon the user agreement pops up for a split second then disappears. Whenever I attempt to open Quicktime alone the program pops open then closes quickly as well. I have removed all firewalls and antivirus software from my computer. I have uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes and Quicktime. I have run the adware removal program from lavasoft.com and still I have problems. I'm running Windows XP Home with SP2. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Buy Snow Leopard from the Apple store. It's your only choice.
Or you can install Windows and download iTunes…

Hello anyone with Windows 7, not sure why having followed instructions above, install of latest version of itunes won't work and can no longer open old version either.  anyone help with this?

    Hi,
    thanks for your reply.
Yes, except n°1 - empty Temp directory, I had tried/checked all of those.
I emptied the local temp folder tonight, but it still won't work.
Please note: the installation doesn't give me any problem. The program was working fine, until at one point *plouf* it stopped working. I can re-install it without any problem, it just crashes when opening.
\\edit\\ I seem to have located the problem, it's in the library files. If I re-install iTunes without my library, it works fine (though there is no music in it, yet). As soon as I import my library, or replace the My Music\iTunes folder with the old one, it stops working.

Okay, we'll try the technique from the following post. Be sure to be logged in to your usual user account when doing so. (Otherwise you'll be editing the wrong set of HKEY_CURRENT_USER keys.)
Re: How do I turn off the compatibility mode for ITunes.
Does that clear up the compatibility message?

my itunes won't work so i tried reinstalling and when it starts an error pops up that says:
"the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. click ok to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Itunes.msi' in the box below
    please help, its frustrating

first, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. if it goes, good. if it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to itunes.
next, download and install the revo uninstaller http://http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html. use it to clear any existing itunes and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC.
next download itunes. it worked for me hope this is helpful!!
oonce you get into the revo uninstallergo thru to delete itunes hit uninstall on the itunes icon then you will go thru to it will tell u the same nmessage about the feature and network hit cancell then go thru and hit scan (make sure bthe advance scan button is pushed) this will take awhile but go thru the list and hit everything associated with itunes. hit delete then install itunes again. it worked for me hope it works for you!

  • Can't deinstall Quicktime. Itunes won't work anymore..

    Hi
I'm having problems with my itunes / quicktime. It all started off when I wanted to open Itunes and I got a message that I need to update quicktime 6.5.2 to 7.1 or higher. Then I tried reinstalling Itunes hoping it would put the new quicktime on. Didnt work.. so I tried installing only quicktime.. and now - Itunes won't work (if I click the Icon it just does nothing).. reinstalling or deinstalling and then reinstalling doesn't help.. AND I can't deinstall quicktime. I always get a fatal error at the end of the deinstallation process..
Can someone help me? I would really like to update my Ipod..
    Thanks for your answers..

(blush) thank you kindly, Kirk. that means an awful lot coming from you.
although there's always a burst of reports of Codec Pack issues when the minimum version of QT required for an itunes version goes up, we've had a decided uptick in reports of problems that turned out to be related to them this time.
the combined symptom set that i always check for Codec Pack issues with is:
"itunes has encountered a problem" error message when launching itunes.
    error-message-free QuickTime launch failure.
QuickTime won't uninstall from Add/Remove Programs.
just this weekend, i managed to confirm it's worth checking for a Codec Pack issue if people get the following message (or the English equivalent) when trying to open their QT control panel:
Une exception s'est produite lors de la tentative d'execution de
    "C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL
    "C:\WINDOWS\system32\quicktime.cpl",QuickTime"
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4476095#4476095
(other more standard varieties of broken QuickTimes can produce these symptoms, but the Codec Packs add complications to the treatment for them, so it's worth checking on the presence of a Codec Pack fairly early on in proceedings.)

  • IPod, iTunes won't work with each other

I have spent the last 2 days trying to update my "new" nano. The first few times I synced it up no problem. Now that I've spent a small fortune on new music, the nano and iTunes won't work together at all.
First, I have the most up-to-date version of iTunes. Next, I had the software update 1.1.3 for the nano all ready to go when I plugged it in. I hit the install new software button and dear god, if the nano didn't crap out and iTunes lost it and gave me a 1436 error. I had to disconnect the nano and reconnect. I tried several times, but finally gave up on updating the software.
I went on to try to sync the nano and iTunes so I could at least listen to my music at work, but iTunes now says I'm not authorized to play ANY of my purchased music (recently purchased or stuff I've had on there for years) on my computer so it won't copy it onto my nano. So I deauthorize and reauthorize my computer several times, I've read every possible troubleshooting/solution guide I can find on the site and NOTHING works. I can play all my purchased music in iTunes once I've reauthorized my computer, but as soon as I plug my nano in - forget about it - "You are not authorized to play this music on this computer" crap. And I can't even restore the nano b/c I get that stupid 1436 error - and believe me I tried everything those help pages suggest.
I'm at a loss here and not in the least bit happy with this thing.

Problem solved. The harddisk was formatted and Windows and iTunes re-installed. Hopefully this problem won't appear very soon.

  • ICal Crashing after startup; iTunes won't work

    My problem is twofold:
My iCal calender (desktop) crashes upon opening every time. I reinstalled Tiger (from "not for resale discs" supplied by Apple). It did not fix the crashing; I still can't use iCal. Now, iTunes won't work with this installation of Mac OSX.
I deleted iCal and reinstalled the OS again and I have the same results. Coincidentally, this crash happened after I upgraded to the iPhone 3Gs.
    Can anyone help me?

  • ITunes won't work....itunes.msi unavailable... please help!!

It all started when I needed to install iTunes again for an iPod I wanted to sync. It told me "The feature you are trying to use is on a network that is unavailable" or something like that. It then asked to me enter the path to the folder containing "itunes.msi". I thought I found that path (actually multiple paths) and I tried enetering each one to no avail. Now my iTunes won't even load and everytime I try and run it it says, "This action is only valid for products that are currently installed." Can someone please help?!?!?
