Help please - color picker is gone in photoshop cs4

for some reason, when i saved files as gif, i could not reopen them. i would get some error message. so i read somewhere to shut down photoshop and restart it while holding down the ctrl + alt+ shift keys to reset it to all the defaults.
i did this but now when i click the foreground or background color squares at the bottom of the toolbar, i get some stupid color window with 48 Basic Color squares and a couple likes of blank squares for Custom Colors.
no matter what i try resetting, i can no longer get the color picker and i have no way of finding hex colors.
does anyone know where my color picker window has gone!
thank you!

thank you chris.
that windows vs adobe color picker seems like a very well kept secret.
even if someone knew EXACTLY what to search for: "change color picker"
-- only the page you mentioned and one other
(http://www.photoshopgurus.com/forum/photoshop-troubleshooting/4946-color-picker-change.htm l)
mentions the Windows vs. Adobe option.
the other 8 results that come up on page 1 of google for "change color
picker" make no mention of the Windows color picker option.

  • Please can someone help me. I need to get Photoshop CS4 to open in Mac Yosemite.

Can anyone help. I am writing iPad notes for SeniorNet Mac using the latest version of Pages in the Yosemite side of my partitioned  Mac and I need to edit a lot of photos and I have to keep going back to SnowLepoard to open Photoshop CS4 and then put them into Dropbox. as I keep on getting error 6 in Yosemite. I have downloaded Jarva 6 but it still won't open. Any ideas?  Thanks  Barbara

Yosemite sometimes has problems, often related to "default" permissions needing to be changed

  • [Help] lowering and moving pictures forward in photoshop cs4

hi, i dont know how to explain this problem very well but, i'd like to know how to move images up and down, and forward into the picture. here is a example. i got 2 images, one of a cat, one of a cat bed. and i want to move the cat, so it's lowered into the bed, and it doesnt just look like i've moved it. here is a example via a picture: see how the cubes are placed behind and lowered etc... i do know its a puzzle, but thats what im trying to explain, but not very well, and want to be able to acheive this using photoshop cs4 or any other program which allows this feature. thanks

It would take too long to spell out the steps but maybe this quick mockup will give you an idea.
3 Images  —  plain background; wall, and vehicle.
Drag the wall image, suitably distorted with the transform tool, into the background image.
Drag the vehicle image in and give it a drop shadow.
You now have three layers in one image.
Save it as a PSD or, for the web, as a flattened JPG.

  • Help Please! PNG cut out in Photoshop placed into indesign printing with colored box

I have cut out an shape in photoshop, saved as a png and inserted into an indesign file. When I print, a discolored box around the PNG appears. I have 5 total documents done the same way, only one is behaving this way. Happens when I print from PDF also.
I have attached an image, the other 4 in the set behave just fine. I am on a mac, printing to an HP.
    Thanks so much!

I think you are a Windows user, but this AppleScript will get the embedded profiles of any placed pngs and update the png's Image Settings profile with its embedded profile:
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS6"
        tell active document
            repeat with x in links
                --the image
set i to parent of x

  • HELP ME PLEASE! I Cannot re-register Photoshop CS4 atfter bringing laptop back to factory settings?!

I had to bring back my laptop to factory settings and have tried to re-load PS CS4 and now the serial number is not recognised. I have explained this to Adobe and they say they do not recognise the serial number, but they did recognise it the first time around when I initially registered it? I think it may be something to do with deactivating and reactivating between different laptops and PCs because of the licence. I cannot deactivate as I am unable to access Photoshop to do so.
I have actually found my purchase details off Amazon, as Adobe suggested, but I am unsure where I should send this information to as Adobe have not come back to me? I am based in the UK.
I am hoping that someone can please help me.
    Many thanks
    Rhian

    Hi Curt
What if I've purchased it off Amazon, will that make a difference?

  • Need help with PC build for use with Photoshop CS4 Extended - Have I made the right choices?

    Hello,
I'm very new to the inner workings of a PC...this will be first time building one from scratch.  I know enough to be dangerous but not enough to be confident.  I will use the PC primarily for editing, secondarily for iTunes management.  I've heard that I should have, at the very least, an SSD for PS, other apps and the O/S.  I'll also have a hard drive for data storage.  Do I need yet another SSD for scratch?  If so, any recs for one?  Also, my current build (which does not include any SSDs) is about $800.  What can I skinny down, without sacrificing a huge amount of speed/performance?  I am looking for major guidance here...I'm ready to order, but I keep second-guessing my choices.  I want to make sure I get this right the first time around.  I want this machine to last me a good long while.  Any help at all will be HUGELY appreciated!

Make sure the motherboard is the third revision as the earlier two had problems with the i5-2500K (Sandy Bridge)
I prefer Asus motherboards but doesn't mean the Gigabyte is a problem. (I note that it scored 4 eggs...)
May not make a difference in Photoshop but for Premiere the Geforce video cards with GDDR5 are preferred.
The LiteOn iHas 224 does lightscribe which is a nice touch for clients/gifts.
There is no room to save as I would consider your build minimum specs for a nice photoshop experience.
As for SSD drives...my research of reviews and articles makes me feel the technology is not ready for mission critical work. So if you are running a business then I recommend not using SSD drives. Rather look at Raptor 10,000 rpm drive for Windows and Photoshop and use the Spinpoint for storage. If not business then I've read the intel x25 SSD drives are solid but I have no personal experience with them.

  • Help please in creating a customised ToC in CS4

    Hi all,
I'm trying to create a ToC in a long document in CS4 on WinXP.  Though the text is complete, formatting and inserted illutrations are still in flux, so I would like to be able to make it updatable.
I'd like to have each Level 1 item appear with the chapter number, then the title of the chapter, and the page number to the right past a right-justified tab with dot leader.  Level 2 items are indented, without the number to the left, and with the page number over to the right after a dot leader.
I've tried using both the ToC and the cross-reference features to achieve what I'm trying to do.  Each one *almost* gets there, but not quite.  The ToC doesn't seem to give me the chapter numbering to the left;  cross-referencing does (as long as I type it in myself!), but all the cross-references are named the same in the dialogue (for instance, all the cross-refences to the page number of the chapter heading just appear as "#") and I can't find any way to rename them.
Can anyone please suggest a way to make this happen?

I'm not clear on what you want the TOC entries to look like. It would help to understand your request, if you'd post an example of what you expect to see. I'm just guessing below:
If you want a TOC entry to include the chapter number and title, then the paragraph that's extracted to the TOC needs to contain the chapter number and title.
To use the chapter number as a paragraph number, you need to include the Chapter Number token in the paragraph's numbering properties. To retain a paragraph's autonumber in the TOC,  the Numbered Paragraphs item for the paragraph style, in the More Options area of the TOC dialog box, needs to be Include Full Paragraph.
To include the chapter title in the TOC, you need to have the chapter title in a paragraph style that's selected for extraction to the TOC.
If you want only one paragraph that contains the chapter number and chapter title for each chapter in the TOC, followed by the 2nd level items in that chapter, then you need a paragraph style in the chapter that contains the chapter number and title. If you don't want this paragraph to appear in the chapter, only in the TOC, you'll need to hide the paragraph either on a hidden layer, or in a tiny invisible text frame or anchored frame on the document page.
There's no need to use cross-references to accomplish this.

  • Can anyone help with workflow problem between iPhoto and Photoshop CS4?

I am very new to CS4 Extended, having upgraded from Elements 6 recently. I use iPhoto '08 to do all my photo organization and really enjoy it, have a LOT of work invested in it and don't really want to switch to anything else if I can help it. One aspect I like about it is that it tucks away my original in case I ever need to revert. With Elements, I could set my iPhoto preferences to allow all my editing to be done externally using Elements 6, but it would only allow 4 photos to be sent over to Elements at a time. Then I would have to go back to iPhoto and "get" more. I thought that when I upgraded to CS4, I would at least be allowed four at a time to be sent from iPhoto to Photoshop for editing. Whenever I do this, it sends only one, maybe two, but never four. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. I'm annoyed at having to constantly go back for one or two photos at a time to edit and wondered if anyone knew of a workaround for this problem. The reason I have done it this way all along is that the two programs would work together and update my iPhoto pics and thumbnails automatically. Since then, I have just opened the iPhoto files from within CS4, but the edit doesn't update the thumbnails, only the enlarged versions within iPhoto. Neither Apple nor Adobe has been able to offer any solutions. I am not looking to create multiple copies of my files. I download straight from my camera to iPhoto. I could always just download them to a folder, edit them in CS4 and then import them into iPhoto, but that would necessitate making a copy of the photos to keep the originals safe and I'm not sure I want to have to organize all my originals elsewhere on top of my iPhoto library. I am very open to suggestions!
    Thanks!

I appreciate your response. I recently did a reinstall, hoping it might help. It didn't seem to make any difference. Don't know if I need to just switch to a different program like Lightroom or just do all my editing outside of iPhoto and then import the results, but that defeats the purpose of letting iPhoto handle my originals so easily. I really like iPhoto and what it does, and have spent a lot of time getting my library compiled just the way I like with keywords, ratings and so on, and I'm afraid that switching to a new product will lose a lot of that work and either cause me to split my library into two places or to create unnecessary duplicates.

  • Help! Cannot change scratch disk for Photoshop CS4

I know this has been addressed on other forums. I've looked though several of them and followed the procedures and I STILL cannot get Photoshop to open.
I click to open Photoshop and I get this:
"Could not open a scratch file because the disk is not available."
I click OK and I get this:
"Could not initialize Photoshop because the disk is not available."
    I've reinstalled Photoshop.
I've tried opening it under Admin user.
    I've tried trashing the preferences.
I've tried Shift+Option+Command to open Photoshop.
I've tried Option+Command to change the Startup Disk.
NOTHING has worked. I'm at my wit's end. I'm logged in as a network user but even trying to open it locally doesn't work.
    Any ideas?
    iMac Intel Core 2 Duo
    3.06 GHz

    Thank you in advance.

I had to do an archive and install of my OS then reinstall the Adobe suite.
I then had to run the Licensing Repair Tool (http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/licensing.html)
Now everything works but Dreamweaver, which is throwing the following error:
"Dreamweaver encountered problems while constructing the menus from the current menus.xml file.
Please delete the current menus.xml file and rename menus.bak to menus.xml"
I tried that. menus.bak is a directory, not a file. Even renaming the directory didn't work.

  • Photoshop CS5 Color picker problem

    Hey!
Suddeny my Photoshop CS5 Color picker has gone wrong. It wouldn't let me change Foreground or Background colors and goes back to gray all the time.  I have not changed any settings, but last time I used it was yesterday and all worked ok.
I have restarted my PC sereveral times, that shouldn't be a problem!!

  • My Adobe color picker won't appear.

    Hi,
I've Googled this without success. For some reason the Adobe color picker is missing from my Photoshop 8.0. I don't know when it went missing. When I double click a swatch in the toolbox or swatches pallet or fill layers or effects window or anywhere I can think of to get the color picker to pop up I get nothing. My eyedropper tool gets activated, but there is no color picker to be seen.
I've changed my screen resolution to maximum to see if it was lost on an outer realm of the desktop and didn't find it. I've also gone to Window > Workspace > Reset Pallet Locations but still no luck. I've gone into Photoshop's Preferences > General > Color Picker and the Adobe option is selected which I've toggled in and out of it in case it needed to reset itself, but I still get nothing. Right now I'm getting by on my Apple color picker, which I find very limiting. I still have all the Pantone, TruMatch, etc., files in Applications > Adobe Photoshop > Presets > Color Books folder, but no Adobe color picker to access them with. My Mac's Home > Library > Color Picker folder appears empty (assuming I don't need to un-hide anything to see all file types).
    So my questions are these...
    1) What is the file name and extension of Adobe Photoshop's color picker? Maybe I'll be able to search my system for it and locate it somewhere.
    2) What folder is it supposed to be located in? So I can put it there if and when I find it.
    3) Can I download the ADOBE color picker somewhere? The only one I want is Adobe's. Particularly for choosing spot colors.
I no longer have the original Photoshop discs for a re-install.
    Thanks for any help.

The Photoshop color picker is built into Photoshop.  There is no file, and no plugin for it.
The only way to get a different color picker (system or a picker plugin) is to choose another one in Photoshop's preferences.
But it sounds like you simply had the picker open on a previously connected display (and the OS is not so good about telling applications that the display is no longer available).

  • Access eyedropper in the color picker

    Hi!
    My question is simple:
Can I access the eyedropper when I'm picking a color in the color picker panel?
In Photoshop the eyedropper is on automatically whenever I hover my cursor over the document (while I'm in the color picker window). Is there anything similar in Illustrator?

No. You cannot sample colors from your doucument while you are in the color picker.
You need to exit the color picker and have the eyedropper as the selected tool.
Word of warning, holding down shift and sampling colors in your document is NOT accurate. The Shift sample uses the RGB values your monitor card is sending to your monitor, not the actual numerical values. So only use the shift eyedropper for ballpark color samples, not for anything critical.

  • Lightroom 3's "edit in photoshop CS4" does not preserve "detail" values

    Hi all,
I am giving lightroom 3 a try (finally...), but noticed that when I have an image to which I have applied "detail" adjustments to reduce luminescence and color noise, using "edit in Photoshop CS4" opens the image without the detail adjustments applied. I don't see the option to pick whether to edit "the image" or "the image with lightroom settings" anywhere, and I'm scratching my head trying to find an option in the preferences (both LR and Catalog prefs) that lets me pick "edit with lightroom settings applied".
    It's a bit useless this way =/
Does anyone know how to make "edit in ..." for lightroom 3 always apply the image corrections to the edit copy?

I had been looking for that option, turns out the only way to get it back was to reset all warning dialogs. After telling LR to render with lightroom, things look great again.
    Thanks!
