Help please: Edit Acrobat Vector Object in Illustrator

I am using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro (9.1.3) in Windows Vista (x32).  I have a non-secured pdf document which contains raster graphics. I am trying to copy them so I can edit them in Illustrator (to save them as .eps so I can import them into InDesign).
I have tried a few methods
Tools > Advanced Editing > Touch Up Object Tool.  With this, I can select the object.  With it selected, I tried copying it and pasting it into Illustrator.   What was pasted in Illustrator was something older which was on my clipboard.
With the Object selected, I tried to right-click on it and selected “Edit Oject”.    It brought up Illustrator and pasted a “}” (without the quotes) in a new document.
I Tried selected the Object in Acrobat, copying it and selecting file > Create PDF From Clipboard.  The resulting new pdf file contains a “}”.
Can someone help??
Thanks
-Ed

If I copy in Acrobat, the PASTE option is not enabled in Photoshop (CS2) (like I don’t have anything in my clipboard).

Bought a new Canon MG7540 printer to replace the old HP A618. When printing vector objects from Illustrator, they look like graphics from dandy (8 bits) ... no smooth, all cubes ... if do raster than print perfectly.  Who knows how to treat it? No well to rasterize vector before each printing. OS - MacOs 10.10.

Have you read the User's Guide for that printer?  Odds are you will get reasonable prints.  However, it is a photographic printer.  That said, it should print excellent quality photographic files.  To get smooth lines in Illustrator, try Preferences > Use Anti-Aliased Artwork.  That will smoothen the output.  If, for some reason, that does not work, try Print > Save As PDF > open PDF in Reader and print from there.  Check the User's Guide for media sizes available for your particular printer.  Setup your artboard to the size page you want the image to print on.  Use View > Show Page Tiling ( to see where the page's printable area lies.  Align the page with the artboard using the Page tool.

  • Please help, I have a vector file in Illustrator, with a raster (jpg) image in it.  How do i save this as a small, web-quality pdf, yet preserve the raster quality of the picture??

Sorry, it's probably an easy question, but I'm a noob!

    Tomy,
Presuming only web/similar use, you may Save a Copy (or Save As, but this may give some danger of ruining your AI document) as PDF as follows:
    1) Use the setting Smallest File Size under General (this will give you RGB);
    2) Set the desired raster image resolution(s) under Compression (you may also just use Do Not Downsample).
The (lack of) compression is crucial to the file size, of course.

  • Is it possible to create vector objects as compound shapes as you draw them (automatically)?

I'd like to start utilizing Illustrator more frequently for web and user interface design projects, but I still like taking everything into Photoshop for final rendering and compositing (and the simple fact that most developers want psds, not ai files). However, I find that the only way to successfully transfer all of the vector artwork from Illustrator and preserve it as vector objects in Photoshop (when exporting) is to manually convert every individual vector object in Illustrator to a Compound Shape (by selecting the shape and clicking Make Compound Shape from the Pathfinder palette menu). This can be very tedious if it has to be done after the design is complete, and very inefficient if you convert every object as you draw it.
Is there a way to set Illustrator to automatically create every vector object drawn as a Compound Shape without having to manually convert it?
A little background on this issue...
Adobe Illustrator allows you to export your Illustrator document as a Photoshop document. However, Compound Paths (not Compound Shapes - see this article for not-so-great explanations comparing the two) – which is the default attribute applied to all of Illustrator's basic vector objects – do not convert into vector objects when the exported document is opened in Photoshop. Rather, the vector objects drawn in Illustrator get flattened into raster layers in Photoshop, making them poor candidates for refining the design in Photoshop.

    Two possibilities:
Start with a simple Compound Shape and use it as the beginning of each new path:
Polygon Tool: Mousedown. Drag. Tap the down arrow key until you have a triangle. Mouseup.
White Pointer: Click one of the sides of the triangle. Delete. (Now you have a 2 segment open path.)
    Fill: Any color. Stroke: None.
Pathfinder palette flyout menu: Make Compound Shape.
Drag the path to just beyond the artboard origin (or some other convenient location).
    Copy.
Each time you begin a new path, start it by either doing a Paste (Ctrl V), or by AltDragging a copy of the original. Then start modifying the pasted path, which is already a Compound Shape.
    OR
Use an Action (macro) to apply the Make Compound Shape after you have drawn the paths:
Draw two paths. Select the first one.
    Actions palette: Start recording.
Pathfinder palette flyout menu>Make Compound Shape.
    Select>Next Object Above.
    Stop recording.
Now when you've finished a drawing:
Layers palette: Select the bottom object.
Actions palette: Repeatedly click the Action Run button (or put the palette in Button Mode and repeatedly click its button).
As with everything in Illustrator, caveats abound:
Why there's no loop command for Actions is beyond me. So if you want, you can duplicate the two steps in the Action, say, nine times so it will convert 10 paths per click.
Using the Action method, the Select>Next Object Above command will not jump between Layers. So if the paths are on various Layers, you'll have to manually do the bottom object select for each Layer.
As you probably know, if the Illustator Compound Shapes have strokes, not just fills, the resulting Photoshop Shape Layers have the paths, but loose the fills and strokes. So either method above works best if the Illustrator paths are filled and unstroked before converting to Compound Shapes.
Illustrator's Javascript considers a Compound Shape a PluginItem. So it's conceivable that one could script the conversion of a simple path to a Compound Shape by using the sendScriptMessage() method of the app object. But you'd have to know the appropriate parameters for the plugin, which I don't.
If only you could invoke an Action from an Illustrator Javascript, you could simply use a Javascript to intelligenty loop through the objects and run the Action for each...but that's another big "if only".

  • Program error when attempting to edit a vector smart object. Help?

I'm running Photoshop CS6 (13.0.1) 64bit on a MacBook Pro running OS X Lion. About 60% of the time when I try to double click a vector smart object instead of opening it up in Illustrator I get an error that says, "Could not edit original smart object because of program error." This most recent time it was a smart object from vector data I copied and pasted from Illustrator into Photoshop.
Any idea why this is happening and how I can fix it?
    Thanks.

    Hi there,
I got this problem when I installed Adob master collection Over CS 5.
I had children book story storis which created in Adobe illustrator CS 5 and I created art boards in Adobe photoshop cs 5.
After installting CS 6 i tried to edit the smart objects and it was not opeinging the smart object file in Illustrator.
    I did some tests.
    1) Right click on smart object layer and click export contents. Save on desktopp or anywhere you want. (I saved on desktop)
    2) I had this file on my desktop (Vector Smart Object10.ai) but it didn't show any icon, which program should open this type of file.
    3) Double click on the file and it pop up a extension window 'Click on change and select adobe illustrator' and press OK.
    4) Go back to your photoshop file and right click on smart object layer and click dit content. now this time it opens up assets in illustrator.
    ENJOY!

  • Editing Vector Objects in PDF

When I use the Touch-up Object tool to select a vector element in a PDF and right click to Edit Object the object opens in Illustrator. This is the program I have set in preferences to edit vector objects. The issue I have is when I edit and save the object it shows up in the PDF shifted from its original position (offset to the upper left). How can I get the object to update in the PDF without shifting position?

Yes and No. You have the most up-to-date version of Acrobat 8.1 and
Illustrator, so the bug should have been fixed. I cannot say why it is
not working for you. Of course, the latest version of Acrobat is 9.0,
but I don't think you need to upgrade for the fix. Maybe someone can
chime in. What happens if you create a new file in Illy and create a
pdf, does the problem still happen?

  • Can I export solid objects into Illustrator / InDesign CS2 and maintain vector format

Can Adobe 3D export solid objects in vector format into Illustrator or InDesign CS2 suite?
I'm interested in taking solid 3D objects developed in Pro/E 2.0 and import from Adobe 3D into Adobe Illustrator & InDesign in vector format for page layout. I want to import solid objects in vector format and maintain color scheme and surface textures.
I'm running 3D trial version and can successfully import 3D objects (asm & prt files) solid views from Pro/E but can only export wireframe views from Adobe 3D Toolkit into Illustrator or InDesign (CS2). Solid objects first have to get rendered in a raster format before importing into Illustrator.
If this function is not supported does anyone have experience doing this using Quadraspace or Right Hemisphere 3D software?

Any help???? After 2 weeks I still can't learn from Adobe or Right Hemisphere people how to import solid objects in vector format into Illustrator with color and surface textures in place. All imported objects in vector format are converted to a wireframe or line format unless they are first rasterized.

  • Help Please - having difficulties creating af link from the text to an attached file i acrobat

I have been reading the help, but it just wonn't work when I try.
I have tried as followed (I am working with a danish version, and hope to matched the same word as in the english version of Acrobat Xpro):
    1. From the toolbox i choose content and then 'hyperlink'
    2. I mark the text from which i wish to make a link
    3. Acrobat respond with an popup picture 'create a link'
    4. From the popup I mark 'Open a side' and push 'next'
    5. Acrobat respond with a new popup picture 'create / go to a side'
    6. I go to the navigator and open the list with attached file's that I have embedded in my acrobat file.
    7. I mark the to which i wish to make a link to
    8. In the popup 'create / go to a side' that stilll is open, i push 'Mark hyperlink'
Then I hoped that I have created a link from the acrobat text to the attached file. In stead Acrobat has made a link to the same sidenumber that respond to the text from which i wish to make a link . F.ex. the linktext is on side 10 - then the link goes to side 10.
How do i do it right?
    Please help.

    Hello Bernd
    Thanks for a quick respond.
This corresponds to the text I have tried myself, but apparently I do something wrong
    1.      Open a PDF that contains a PDF file attachment – done
    2.      Go to where you want to create a link. If that location is in the file attachment, click the Attachments button in the navigation pane, select the file attachment, and click open.
Here I go to side number 10 from which I wish to make a link from (I am not open the attachment file at this moment, as the location not is inside the file attachment).
(I earlier also tried to  mark the attachment file and click open, and It result that the attached file just opened normally without creating a link to the file).
    3.      Choose Tools > Content > link, and select the area for the link
Here  I mark the text on side 10 from which I wish to make a link to a attached file
    4.      In the Create Link dialog box, set the link appearance, select Go To A Page View, and then click Next
Here I have selected ‘Go to a page view’ as told and I click Next
    5.      Set the page number and view magnification you want, either in the parent PDF document or in the file attachment, and then click set link.
Here I go to the navigation pane and mark the attached file from the file list (the files in the list hasn’t any side number in the list) and then I click Set Link.
Then I hoped that I have created a link from the acrobat text to the attached file. In stead Acrobat has made a link to the same sidenumber that respond to the text from which i wish to make a link . F.ex. the linktext is on side 10 - then the link goes to side 10.
    What do I do wrong.?

  • Problem: Illustrator CS6 - print PostScript (fuzziness and blurring edges of vector objects)

    Hello,
Earlier to print to the printer Develop Ineo+ 451 used the program Illustrator CS3. In connection with the transition to Windows 7 (64bit), was bought by a new version of Illustrator CS6 64bit. Unfortunately, when printing from Illustrator CS6 (price lists, business cards, labels) on a PostScript printer were detected problems, which were not in previous versions of Illustrator CS3.
A comparison of the print quality of the two programs Adobe Illustrator CS3 and Adobe Illustrator CS6, made on a PostScript
The software used on the computers:
    1st PC: Windows XP SP2 (32bit), Adobe Illustrator CS3 (32bit), the driver Generic 50C-2SeriesPS v3.0.16.0 (32bit).
    2nd PC: Windows 7 SP1 (64bit), Adobe Illustrator CS6 (64bit), the driver Generic 50C-2SeriesPS v3.0.16.0 (64bit).
    Printer: Develop Ineo+ 451 (PostScript).
Drivers are available for download on the site www.chansi.ru
    link http://download6.konicaminolta.eu/develop/public/&&BDV&RU&sw&&&&&0&&&0&&0&&0
(to choose Product Ineo + 452, for download tested version of the printer driver).
Because after using the new version of the driver, the print quality was not satisfactory, then for the correctness of the comparison experiment, already used driver version 50C-2SeriesPS v3.0.16.0 has been selected.
When you print from the program Adobe Illustrator CS6, a printer PostScript, you can see fuzziness and blurring edges of vector objects, small text becomes fuzzy and difficult to read. If you print from a program Adobe Illustrator CS3 (using the same version of the driver), there are not such problems and the print quality is quite satisfactory.
The settings in the dialog box "Print" of Adobe Illustrator and the print settings in the dialog boxes of the PostScript printer driver of Develop Ineo+ 451, were chosen exactly the same for both versions of the programs Adobe Illustrator CS3 and Adobe Illustrator CS6 on both operating systems!!!

What's the explanation for the following sequence?
    1. Paste as Smart Object, at moment after pasting and before clicking the commit icon (no transform was made) in options bar. The object is rendered pixel-perfect.
    2. After the commit. The object is poorly rendered with gray pixels which should be white.
    3. Press Cmd+T for transform mode. The object is rendered pixel-perfect again.
    4. After canceling transform mode, the object is poorly rendered again.

  • Challenge: Export Smart Object Vector Data to Illustrator

I doubt there's any sane way to do this, but I thought I'd throw it out as a challenge:
We have a photoshop file that is built with many (and I mean many) illustrator vector items that were placed into photoshop as smart objects (and scaled and rotated).
Unfortunately the file is for packaging, and we now need the vector objects back in illustrator for printing.
Is there any way to export the paths with their current position, scale and rotation back to ai?
I think we're going to end up doing it by hand...
    Thanks!

CS2 or 3 and as many g5's and intels as needed.

Save out a PSD and open it in Illustrator. Tell Illustrator to retain Photoshops layers. You now have the ability to move the vector art around on a layer in Illustrator. If you need to edit text and objects, you need to manually replace the nested object with the original Illustrator art. Spot colors will also transfer to some extent as layered spots.
PSD is becoming Adobe's interchange format. PDF is trying to have some behaviors of PSD so go and play with them to see what works.
