Help please - GB won't work - Midi driver conflict with Snow Leopard

I use Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on my MacBook Pro.  Ever since I upgraded to this version GarageBand won't work.  When I try to launch it I get 3 or 4 pop up screens saying GB has detected software midi conflicts please update your midi drivers.  If I click through these and wait for 3 or 4 minutes, GB does open but it takes ages to change anything and it shows there is no Core Audio.  It also won't 'Play' an already recorded track and there is no sound for anything.   I have several plugins Including Line 6 Podfarm, and the midi drivers for Melodyne and record through an old Tascam US122 with midi.
One driver for the Podfarm was automatically put in an incompatibel Software folder when I upgraded.  I put this file in Trash and updated my Podfarm drivers but it's made no difference.
In GB Preferences it shows the Tascam US122 as my recording/playback and my midi device, but also 'no midi device detected' even though it is connected.   There are no driver updates for this old Tascam model.
Everything still works perfectly in Melodyne.  How can I find out which driver(s) are involved in the conflict for GB?  I have no guarantee that even if I buy a new Tascam interface, or any other brand, that GB will work, even then.
Is there a way to identify which driver, or drivers, are the problem?  Surely that is not beyond what a MacBook Pro can do?

I should have mentioned I use GarageBand 2009.  I've read other posts all over the web where people have trouble with this Tascam US122 but with the older Leopard versions.  I had no problem with ordinary Leopard 10.5.6 - it's only since I upgraded to Snow Leopard, and it's only in GB.
I've tried a powered hub which has helped others, but doesn't help with my problem.
I reallly only want to know which driver/drivers are the problem.
Then I can work out a solution, even if it means buying a new interface.  So long as I can't identify what the problem is, I'm not prepared to buy new equipment that might make no difference at all.
Bad luck with your electronic drums macuserrich - it's  annoying isn't it!!!!

  • Epson R2880 printer driver problems with Snow Leopard

I’m running 10.6.4 on a new Mac mini and I’m trying to print to a new Epson R2880. If I let the system choose the printer driver in the print and fax utility, I get a sort of generic print dialogue box without many options, but it prints. If I go into the print and fax utility and manually choose the driver, I get a different print dialog box with all the appropriate print options. I checked and it matches the screen shots for this printer that are posted on the Epson site, so I feel sure this the correct driver. However, when I try to print with this driver, I get this error message. Error:/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpll.app/Contents /MacOS/rastertoescpll failed.
This seems to be a common problem with Snow Leopard and the R2880 Epson printers, and it seems that most people are able to solve it by deleting the printer from the printer queue and resetting the printer queue. But that hasn’t solved my problem.
    Here’s what I’ve done:
Manually deleted the Epson folder from the hard drive and trashed it, repaired disk permissions, uninstalled the Epson driver, updated software, downloaded and installed the Apple/Epson driver, deleted the printer from the print queue, and reset the printer queue. I’ve done all of these things several times over. And still I get the same error message every time I try to print from the driver with the print options. Does anyone have any other suggestions for a fix?

Some of the previous users had success when they restarted after deleting the /Library/Printers/EPSON and /Library/Caches/Epson folders. You might also try deleting the /Library/Cache folder. There is a solution posted from someone at Epson:

    Substitute 2880 for RX580:
Make sure that you have completely removed the Stylus Photo RX580 driver, then install the new driver from System Update:
    1. Power off the printer
    2. Open System Pref. and Print/Fax
    3. Highlight the RX580 printer
    4. Click on the ""-"" sign
    5. Close Print and Fax
    6. Open your Mac's Hard Drive
    7. Open the Library Folder
    8. Open Printer and delete the EPSON Folder
    9. Open the PPDs folder find the Epson Stylus Photo RX580.gz and delete the file
    10. Close the PPD and the Printer folder
->11. In the Library folder, open the Caches Folder
    ->12. Delete the Epson folder
    ->13. Restart the Mac
    14. Power on the printer
    15. Click on the Apple Icon and System Update
    16. Follow the directions to install the new driver
    Hope this helps.

  • Help Please! Trying to do a clean install of Snow Leopard on a new drive

I'm trying to help a family member with his Mac Mini.
He installed a new HD and we're trying to do a clean install of Snow Leopard from the DVD. I've tried booting to the DVD by holding the C key during boot up and that does nothing. I've tried mounting his HD on my Macbook and installing that way and that doesn't work either.
How do I install this if you don't have an OS on you drive to boot up to?

    Michael Brown1 wrote:
I was able to boot it in target disk mode by holding T. I formatted the drive as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) I've read in a couple places about GUID but I can't find that as an option on the Disk Utility.
    Partition tab, Options button.
Is it possible to load the OS onto the Mini from my Macbook? I can see the installation DVD and the HD on the mini from my Macbook, but when I try to install I get a warning that it can't be installed on that volume.
It's been a while since I tried something like that, but it worked in the past. It may be complaining because the partition table is not set correctly.
I couldn't find anything about installing on another drive. I did find this old [MacFixIt article|http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-10329087-263.html] that you might find useful if you've got an external drive. Essentially, you partition it (not necessary for what you want), make an image of the Installer and then restore the image to the external drive. You can then use that drive as the boot drive. That was for Leopard, so I don't know if it will work.

  • Mountain Lion won't install on mid-2010 iMac with Snow Leopard

Using the same Apple ID I used to purchase Mountain Lion on my Mac Pro, I signed into the Mac App Store on my iMac and downloaded Mountain Lion with no issues.  The iMac is running 10.6.8.
When I launch the ML installer and accept the terms, the install screen appears but the Install button is greyed out as is the icon for my hard disk, Macintosh HD.  Below the OS X Mountain Lion banner it says "OS X cannot be installed on "Macintosh HD".
Snow Leopard was installed on this machine as part of a family pack and I still have the DVD.  Nothing shady going on license-wise, is I guess what I'm saying here.
Anyway, no reason is given and no options are offered other than the Back button at that point.  And I can't seem to come up with anyone having a similar issue in all my "research".  So any help or insight would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Doug

I recommend backing up your system, and before going into the install, checking disk utility > verify disk > macintosh hd partition > to make sure the partition is okay.
If there is anything wrong with it, you will know here. Sounds like the disk may be locked or there is an issue w/the partition "macintosh hd"
also, maybe the partition was created incorrectly... check to see if the partion is MAC OS EXTENDED JOURNALED and not case-sensetive

  • Adjustment brush not working on new Mac with Snow Leopard

Just purchased a new computer a couple of weeks ago. Not sure if something is incompatible or something else. I'm can't remember if the brush ever worked on the new machine. Also updated to Snow leopard 16.2 during this period.
I see the adjustment brush and can change it's size and feathering, flow and density are set at 100%, masking is off, it set down control points, but that's it. It makes no visible changes to the image in any mode. If I put exposure at 4 stops and place it on a mid-tone there is no change to the image, either in Lightroom or upon export.
I've run permissions checks, trashed the preferences and repaired the drive with Diskwarrior all to no avail.
Lightroom 2.5, Power Mac 2.66 Ghz Quad Core Intel Xeon, 6 GB of factory installed memory, Snow Leopard 16.2
Should I try a fresh install of Lightroom??

    Sorry,
My post above should have read Mac Pro. I recently switched and keep getting the names mixed up. Doesn't help that they look the same.

  • MacPro1.1 with 3 internal hard drives, 2 with snow leopard OS & 1 with Lion OS, I have some software that will only run on OS 10.4.11, and I would like to add a 4th drive and format it to 10.4.11, can this be done aon this platform?

    Hello,
I would like to load the 4th bay in my mac with a 2TB HDD and format it with the old system 4.11 will I have any problems?

Since it's a MacPro1,1, it originally shipped with Mac OS X 10.4.7 and will run Mac OS X 10.4.11 when installed from its original disks(or the Mac OS X Server 10.4 Universal Binary) and updated.

  • Canon MP620 print driver does not work with Snow Leopard

Bought a Macbook & bundled Canon MP620 printer in Dec 08. Two days ago upgraded to Snow Leopard, and I can no longer print (the printer is not recognized), it only sees "Bonjour scanner" (the printer is a multi-function printer, copier, fax, scanner). Spent more than two hours with two different Apple tech support people over the phone; talked to Apple personnel in store. My printer is connected via Ethernet cable to a wireless modem, and I connect to the wireless modem via Airport. The phone tech person insisted that this printer is supported by Snow Leopard, but we reloaded the print driver from the Snow Leopard installation disk with no results. Finally my last resort, which worked, is to go to Radio Shack and get a cable that has a USB-A (printer) to USB-B (Mac) attachment. I was able to print. It is unacceptable for Apple to have this problem, as I went into the store four different times to discuss whether I should upgrade to Snow Leopard, and was told on every occasion that Snow Leopard will make everything run faster, more smoothy, etc. NOT! I want Apple to post a notice on their web site to a) confirm their print driver problems with Snow Leopard and b) to confirm WHEN new print drivers will be released.

Have a look at my last posting re Canon network printing.

  • HP Laserjet 4mp won't print with Snow Leopard

My great Laserjet 4mp prints just fine with OS 10.5.8 but not with Snow Leopard (10.6.2) on my new iMac. Have spent three plus hours with senior level Mac Techs to no avail. The printer screen shows the correct printer and driver and indicating valid connection, but when attempting to print I get the message "Unable to print, try again in 30 secs". Since 10.6 doesn't have Appletalk, am unable to use it; techs have tried to use the 4mp driver supplied with Snow Leopard and also downloaded it separately from the web site. We (they) have also tried using all methods (IP, Daemon, and HP Jet Direct using Ethernet and Serial to USB connections). Techs have talked with HP techs and have no other solutions. The security system is off. Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

I've read the threads and don't understand some, but I think we (the Apple support techs and I) have tried the ones I recognize. One new idea--in a reply to a similar post someone mentioned being sure to use additional data when using the IP address-- submask address or some such, I
haven't been told to do this--should I? (I can get it from the printer readout if told what to get.) Also, in another post someone suggested deleting the OS 10.5.8 driver that was transferred when all the data from my old iMac G5 was moved over, saying that it would interfere. If true, how do I do that?
What I really need is a stepwise instruction on which connection to use (Ethernet, Serial to USB, or parallel port are the only options); which protocol to use (IPP, Line Printer Daemon, or HP Jet Direct socket, whatever they are); what to put in the Address line (the IP address is the one used by Apple techs); what to put in the Queue line (techs said to leave it blank); what to put in Name and Location blocks, if anything; and what to put in the Print Using line (techs have unsuccessfully tried Autoselect, Generic, and the HP4mp driver selected both from the Select Printer Driver option and from the driver downloaded directly from the HP web site).
I'd be grateful for this help or even advice on where I can get it! (With this new computer I still have free telelphonic Apple tech support but they've given up.) Thanks!

  • Do i have to have a firewire drive to hold snow leopard

i plan on updating to lion.  presently i have snow leopard and am using a 250gb firewire drive as my backup.  rather than to go thru the partitioning process, i'll probably purchase an additional external drive to serve as backup and keep the drive filled with snow leopard when i want to boot it.
vice versa, i may want to transfer snow leopard to a 1tb usb drive i already have, and boot it when i need snow leopard.  thus, i would use the former snow leopard backup firewire drive as the new lion backup drive.  whew!
any suggestions as to whether or not usb would be ok?
    thanks,

lanny, not quite sure of your question but i believe this answers it:  4 usb 2.0 ports and a firewire 800 port.  also have a combination usb/firewire hub.
drives are firewire 400(with adapter cable for 800) and usb 2.

HELP PLEASE!  I am working with GH4 4k footage in adobe preimere and the computer keeps freezing... any ideas?

Thanks for your response.  I'm sorry for the lack of details, but posting a question on this forum is completly new to me, so I guess I am learning how it works.
I have to be honest, I am a novice to video editing, but I am here to learn so I will provide all the info I know and please let me know if it is enough...
I filmed my first feature film on a Panasonic GH4. We filmed in 4k (compressed files).  I am about 900 GB of total files for all the footage.  I am currently editing on a 17' Toshiba Satellite i7 with 750 GB of space and I believe 8 gb of ram.  All of the footage for the film is not on the computer, but stored on a 1 TB external hardrive (Rugged Lacie is the name of the hard drive).  I am using a usb 3.0 from the hard drive to the computer.
I actually was able to get through about 17 mins of edits for the film before I started to experiencing the computer completely freezing up on me.  I tried using a different hard drive, and same issue.  A friend mentioned it might just be the computer is not powerful enough to edit all the footage, but he wasn't for sure considering the computer is less than a year old and is on the higher end for a toshiba.
I am requesting advice on how to continue editing the film without the computer crashing if that is even possible with using the same computer.  If not what would be my options?
    Thank you!

There's a new driver bundle for OSX 10.6 that you might need to install, the HP link seems to be failing at the moment but there's a version of it here: HP_Installer_Scanjet_v2.4.3_Ph4.dmg
There's a piece on the HP Forum about it here (some folks have problems installing ...)

  • Please help Apple??? It worked fine with Snow Leopard??

I recently upgraded to Lion and now cant see my Windows 7 laptop in network? Or see my macbook Air 2010 on my win7 laptop. Please help Apple??? It worked fine with Snow Leopard??

You're not addressing Apple here, you are addressing a user based community.  An Apple employee may read your post but he/she will not officially respond to it.
You didn't say if your networking is Wi-Fi or USB Dongle based so I'm assuming Wi-Fi in this response. If you do a search of the forums you will find that quite a few are having Wi-Fi issues with Lion--things that worked fine with Snow Leopard are flakey or don't work at all with Lion so your problem may be another instance of the Wi-Fi issues in Lion.  If not, then perhaps someone with knowledge of your specific issue will post.  I see my other Macs (MBP, 24" iMac, 27" iMac all running Lion) fine but I don't have a PC to test.

  • Help! Aperture won't work with Snow Leopard...

I know you will all probably laugh at me because I have just upgraded to Snow Leopard.  The problem is that nobody told me my Aperture wouldn't work anymore! I can't even open it to retrieve my photos...(btw, this is why I was hesitant to upgrade...but I had to because I got the iphone 5 which wouldn't sync with my itunes version and that wouldn't update unless I went to snow leopard...and so on....).
So, the problem is that I need Aperture version 2.0. so I can update that to 2.1.4 and be compatible with Snow Leopard.  I have 1.5.6 and kept it that way because it was working for me and I just basically use Aperture as a photo storage system. I can't find 2.0 anywhere. I can't figure out how to uninstall snow leopard either. I need my photos back asap.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you in advance,
    Debi

    One more question, debi.
Does your Aperture icon show a circular ring like the ghostbusters? Like below for my CCC?
And is the "Kind" listed as "Application (PowerPC)" when you use "Get Info ⌘I)? That would indicate that your current Aperture version is still a PowerPC application. Then you can still make it run on Snow Leopard. You have to make sure that your Snow Leopard installation includes the Rosetta environment.
Do you have a Snow Leopard install disk? Look into the "Optional Installs" folder on this disk and open the "Optional Installs" package. Proceed as described in the second part of this
    article:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1167117/reinstalling_rosetta.html
If your Aperture 2 version is still a PoerPC app, installing Rosetta should enable you to run the aperture 2 installer from your installation disk and then upgrade to Aperture 2.1.4.
    Regards
