Help please! HP 6700 Scanner Won't Connect Wirelessly

Hi there,
I recently bought the HP Officejet 6700 and it prints wirelessly without a problem, but will not scan wirelessly.  When I try to "Enable Scan to Computer" I get a "Communication Error" message - unable to communicate with the device.  I have tried unplugging and restarting both the machine and my laptop but no change.  I have also made sure all of the software and firmware are up to date but still no luck.  I am using Mac OS X 10.7.5
I would really rather not uninstall the software and reinstall it if possible as there are other people in my office who couldn't get their laptop to even print wirelessly on their own printers and I'm worried that could happen to me.  But I am definitely open to any suggestions.
Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thank you.

Hello hpnikki,
Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having a wireless connectivity issue.
Please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
I have located a document that troubleshoots the Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.
Thanks for your time.

Help please. Extended display won't work on MBP and AOC 20" 1600 x 900  60HZ monitor. Mirror display does. I've a mini dvd to vga converter cable. Should this work?

I have the same mini display port adapter and Belkin DVI-HDMI cable (but a Panasonic 42" Plasma HDTV) so just set this up on it to see if I could duplicate your problem, unfortunately for you (but good for me) I can't.
I connected the adapter+HDMI cable before switching the HDTV on and then powered up the MBP. It (the HDTV) came up with my background right away (it's set at Mirror not extended Desktop) and when I run System Preferences/Displays get the following. Sorry but all I can confirm is that adapter+cable combination should work ...
Try doing a Parameter RAM reset - hold down command/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing the keys?

  • Macbook won't connect wirelessly on home network

    Hey guys,
I see that a lot of you are having the same issue I am. I have a Macbook that I got the summer of 2008. Up until Thursday, it would connect wirelessly to my E-wire router and network just fine. Then it quit. Later that night, I went up to school for a class, and it connected just fine to the wireless network up there, but will not connect wirelessly to my home network. I have since gotten a new router (Netgear) and reconfigured everything (again), including security and all updates. Airport shows that I am connected to my network, and I can load web pages when I am plugged into the router via ethernet cable (as I am now) but when I try to launch Mozilla or Safari wirelessly, I get the "Server cannot be found" error message.
I am connected to my network, I have tried shutting off Airport and restarting it, as well as quitting my browser and reopening it, and rebooting my Macbook all together. And I also went in and manually entered my IP address, which is what allowed me to connect to the network via ethernet cable in the first place.
Any theories why my Macbook (which is newer) won't connect wirelessly whereas my roommates older Macbook doesn't have any issue connecting wirelessly from right next to me? And I know that it's not an issue of too many people trying to be on the network at once, since it's just the two of us at most, and I'm the only one here right now.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Is your router a model that supports a/b/g/n? If you turn off N will it work? If your N is setup at 40MHz slots it may not work as well. Can you take your wireless router somewhere else for testing? I assume you might have some issue where you are at with your Mac and that router. When you open Apple Menu/About this Mac/More Info../Network/Airport does it show your network there? From a working machine can you see your Mac from your router web interface? FYI if your router was an Apple product(Airport Express or Airport Extreme/Time Capsule) you could see all your wireless clients via the Airport Utility, even signal strength and connection speed...

  • 8600 Plus, Mac OS 10.8.5 scanner won't connect to wireless

I have an Officejet Pro 8600 Plus connected wirelessly (Apple Time Capsule) to my Mac running OS 10.8.5.
The wireless connection light indicates that it is connected, and I can print wirelessly from the Mac with no problem. The copy function works fine.
However, the Scan  function will not connect to anything. When I try Scan To Computer, and follow the instructions (go to HP Utility and Enable Scan to Computer) I get "Communication Error - Unable to communicate with device. Check cables and connection settings. If the problem persists, try restarting computer and the HP device."
I looked at the connection settings, and have no idea what might need to be changed. Restarting achieved nothing. What should I do next?

    Hi solutionseeker,
I would like to help you be able to scan from your 8600 to your Mac 10.8.5.  I suggest uninstalling and reinstalling the software. Please use the instructions below to complete a more comprehensive uninstall than the basic uninstall.
    Scrub/ Uninstall
Open the Applications folder > HP or Hewlett Packard folder > HP Uninstaller
Click continue, click on one of the printers in the list.
    * Only do this step if you do not have any other HP Printers.  Hold down Control, Option and Command, While holding the three buttons down,
    Click uninstall.
    Reset Printing System
Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.
Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
    Click OKto confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
    Repair Disk Permissions
On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
    Double-clickDisk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
Once the repair is complete, restart the computer.
Restart the printer. Now you can download and install the printer software and install it. >  Officejet-Pro-8600_v12.23.0.dmg
When you add the printer, please ensure you are using the HP driver, not the AirPrint driver.
Select Add other Printer or Scanner
Select the printer you are adding and next to 'Use' you can the printer driver
Please let me know if you can scan now. Thanks.
Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.

  • HP Officejet 7612 won't connect wirelessly since Windows 10 update

Update: I have the IP Address settled. I actually think it isn't a wireless problem... because the blue light is on the wireless symbol on the printer. When I get to the install network printer stage, it takes ages, and then says "unsuccessful network installation" so that is the real problem. Whether that also means the wireless connection between the printer and the computer is not established I am unclear. So hope someone can help  Thanks Selene

Hi I am stuck. When I first set up my HP Officejet 7612 on the same computer I am using now, everything went fine. I set the printer to print wirelessly and it worked great. I didn't use the printer for a week. Then I upgraded to the free Windows 10. Was running Windows 8. The computer- laptop is only 7 months old. Today, day two of operating Windows 10, the printer won't print wirelessly. The print window came up as if I was sending a fax, and there was no HP Officejet 7612 in the drop down menu of printers, just the Fax HP Officejet 7612. Problem solving done to date:Deleted HP software  off laptop and reinstalled everything. Still on wireless connection.Re-set printer to default settings and re-set up wireless on printer using the wizzard. Still no wireless connection.Rebooted internet. Didn't help.Printed HP Network Configuration Page and noted IPv4 IP Address was different on page one to page two. Tried 'other' IP Address, system told me that definitely was wrong.Retired original IP address - no improvement. In the middle of all this trouble shooting, I realised that the initial IP address that the printer gave me at the very beginning of this problem was one digit different to what it gave me tonight when I sat down to try and fix this issue. I am about to try the this discovered IP address. But if anyone can help, I would really appreciate your assistance. I am just stabing in the dark now. Thank you for your time. Selene

  • Canon MG 31222 won't connect wirelessly to a Mac book Pro.

Trying to get a Canon MG 31222 to connect wirelessly to a Mac book Pro running OS 10.6.8.   I've turned off and on both printer and router with no success. In the print and fax dialog box, the printer is not listed, nor is it listed when I try to add a printer. Canon's site is useless. Their FAQs are useless. Anyone have any idea how to get this to work? No WPS button on printer.

If you are using Snow Leopard, Lion or Mountain Lion and have HP software for pre-Snow Leopard (either from a CD not marked as compatible with 10.6 -10.8 or you recently upgraded to Snow Leopard, Lion or Mountain Lion and had the HP software on your Mac before you upgraded - even if you did a standard uninstall of the old software or installed new software over the top of it) you must uninstall the software using the 'scrubber' option:
Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ click on HP Uninstaller
    Click on Continue
Highlight your device on the left pane
Press and hold Control + Alt + Cmd keys on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on Uninstall <<<< This IS the Scrubber Option, there is no button labeled "Scrubber"
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall ALL hp software. (At this point, if you continue, any HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click Continue and let it finish
    Download and install this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
    Restart your Mac.
    Now reset the printing system:
    - Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
    - Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
Finally, download and install the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • IPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS won't connect wirelessly at home when PCs are off.

    Dear Apple.com,
I have been using iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS wirelessly at home no problems.
I use a MAC filter on an unsecured wireless network. Only entered MAC addresses can connect wirelessly.
However, when I turn off all the PCs at home the iPhone find the wireless network and show connected, but cannot browse websites.
The router Linksys WRT610N is always on, so the wireless connection and permission for the iPhone MAC addresses to access the wireless connection should work?
    Any ideas?

  • HELP!! locked iphone won't connect to pc??

I recently purchased an Iphone 5c off of facebook. The problem is that I don't know the passcode, and my computer and iTunes are not recognizing it whatsoever.  The iPhone and the computer both never make the connection sound when plugged in. I've tried multiple cords and computer and nothing has changed.
I feel like I've read every support article and nothing has worked! I have tried uninstalling then re-installing itunes almost 5 times over, I've updated all device drivers, tried to connect it in recovery and DFU mode, and restarted the Apple Mobile Device Services.Still nothing changed. The phone or computer don't ever make the connection sound. My computer is running Windows 7. Please help me!

  • Help please respond my iphone won't turn on

It's been charging all night last night and all day this morning and you know when it is in the process of turning on and the apple comes up, well every single time after the apple comes up it doesn't turn on normal, the apple just disappears and the entire screen goes black with just a loading circle in the center and it has been doing this for over 12 hours. I've tried to reboot it by holding down the circle button and the top button together and it turns of completely that way and then I turn it back on but it still goes to that black screen with the loading circle. Long story short, my phone won't turn on. Please respond if you know a way to fix this.

Here are steps to get DFU Mode: Open iTunes on computer. Connect iPhone to computer. (some turn off iPhone here, I do not) Hold both home and power buttons for exactly 10 seconds, release power button, keep holding home button until iPhone recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. Usually takes 10-20 seconds of holding the home button. If the iPhone screen is black (blank) the iPhone is in DFU Mode.

  • TIme Capsule won't connect wirelessly after restart??  HELP!

I plug in time capsule and it shows up on Airport Utility. I enter the information it asks for joining an existing wireless network. We have Fios through Verizon and are running a Verizon wireless router. After seeing my wireless network it asks for the Wireless Security choice. It automatically chooses WEP 128bit so I assume this is correct. It also automatically puts in my password (not sure why) but I go ahead and retype the password for our wireless network. Then this is what I get after several minutes:
"*Airport Utility was unable to find your apple wireless device after restarting.*
The settings for this Apple wireless device have been successfully updated, but there was a problem re-joining the wireless network or finding the Apple wireless device. You may need to select your network from the AirPort menu and try again."
Then when I run Airport Utility the Time Capsule no longer shows up and the only way to get it back is to push the little pin hole reset button in the back for 5 seconds to completely reset the unit. I have done this no less than 5 times.
Please advise...any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Jenn

In case anyone has this same problem and ends up reading my post. I, through the help of a very tech savy friend, was able to solve the problem for the most part.
Here is, from what I can remember, he did.
We plugged the TC into one of the LAN ports on the back of my wireless router. We then set the TC up on it's own as a source for connecting to the internet wirelessly. (He had to go into my settings VIA verizon and pull down some codes to make this work.) Once the TC showed up as it's own wireless network on my computer, we were able to do the back up through Time Machine no problem. We ended up just disabling our old verizon wireless router on the server but are keeping it plugged in.
    Hope that helps.

  • HELP!  new iTouch 32gb won't connect

I have wi-fi, router, etc. Shows I'm connected and even tries to connect but it won't. Then when I try my email or the weather (something requiring internet) it states network unavailable? Do I have a setting wrong some where. What is the VPN?

Ok I have been trying to fix this since I got this thing (what a week now0, but it is now working! I have tried all the suggestions and SOMETHING worked or maybe it didn't cause my daughter got an iTouch and hasn't tried any of the fixes. So here is what I did in the order I did it; I did take someones suggestions (at this point I have read so many fixes I'm sorry I don't know who it was)to go to Linksys and get an update, I did that. Then I went back through some steps someone else suggested only cause it made sense; I went to Settings>WiFi then I tapped on "Choose a Network=Linksys-g", then I tapped "Forget this Network". Then I turned my iTouch off. I then turned on my iTouch, plugged it into my laptop, waited for the iTune to come up and sync. Then I went back through the steps of setting up my wifi again, including the pass word. Then everything connected and now it works! I so hope this helps someone else that is going through the same thing as it has been a chore to find the answer. Now my daughter and I can use our iTouch to its fullest!
