  • Corrupt Boot Manager / Missing Windows 8 Pro

Please assist with the following as I have read too many forums and attempted to resolve without success.
Problem: unable to boot into Windows 8.0 due to corrupt boot manager or missing boot manager.
Observed:  Harddisk is recognized within bios. The disk cable is firmly connected. I hear the disk spinning. Bootrec commands have completed successfully.
    Attempted to resolve by:
    1. Bootrec commands (but will still will not boot).
    2. Factory disk repair command
    3. Ran chkdsk commands (there was some clusters that need to be reorganized).
My primary concern is that I need to access my data on the drive.  Is there a file that I can download and install that will act as my new boot manager?  Or how can I access the drive?  Pulling it of the computer and installing in an HD dock
seemingly will not work because I need the bootmanger fixed?
    Please advise.  Many thanks,

    Hi,
Firstly, I need to confirm your system edition, as you said unable to boot into Windows 8.0 but your provide this problem at Windows 7 forum.
About bootrec command to fix the boot manager problem, I would like to suggest you refer to the KB again and try its process for test.
Use Bootrec.exe in the Windows RE to troubleshoot startup issues:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392
If no use, please try to boot system into repair mode and using Startup Repair to fix system startup problem.

  • After Deploying an Image: Windows Boot Manager - Missing ACPI.sys

    Hi,
I am currently working on deploying a Windows 7 Pro x64 image to a number of clients over our network using FOG. We used KVM in Ubuntu to build the base image. The image has a small virtual disk for the Windows installation and is deployed to clients with larger
drives. Prior to capture the image, we ran sysprep /generalize /shutdown /oobe /unattend:unattend.xml, then boot the VM to the FOG client and let FOG save off the disk image. We then deploy the image to clients over FOG.
FOG successfully copies the image over, then reboots the PC. The computer attempts to boot from the local hard drive, then fails at the Windows Boot Manager screen, saying:
    Windows boot manager
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause....
    File: \Windows\system32\drivers\ACPI.sys
    Status: 0xc0000098
Info: Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing or corrupt.
I've updated the client's BIOS, tried a different hard drive, used ATA secure erase to wipe the drive before formatting, and still encounter this same issue with certain client computers. Are there any other steps I can take to resolve this issue?
What files in Panther should I look at (or post) to troubleshoot? I don't see anything too obvious in diagerr, and sestuperr.log is just about empty.

We're using two models of 120GB SSDs, and deploying to 5 different motherboards (4 Intel models + 1 MSI model). The issue is most common with the DH55TC Intel boards.
We're using FOG due to budget limits--otherwise, WDT definitely would have been considered.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-6c66nr - Win 7 HP 64 bits - Boot manager missing

I have a HP Pavilion dv7 with Win 7 Home Premium edition pre-installed, it is a 3.5 years old computer, seldom used by me.  As my previous computer with XP was close to the end of is life I decided to investigate if it was possible to use the Pavilion.
I intend to have the Pavilion with the windows 7 sp1 and HP drivers, so at startup I pressed f11 to enter HP Recover Manager, chose  “Minimized Image Recover” and the software installed the intended image
With windows 7 sp1 installed I install all windows updates till two days ago and also an handful of HP drivers updates
Then I made 1 bootable CD windows recover disk with windows, and 1 system image windows also, that I save to a usb hd drive
Everything was going ok but the cyberlink software could not connect with the computer embedded camera. I took several steps to solve the problem and it seems that the camera was not connected (hard disconnected).
I was not sure if before the minimized installation the webcam was operating well and once more I used HP “Recover Manager” to return to the full installation
As the web camera was not operating even with the full installation, I decided to return to the streamlined installation.
I tried a short cut to the original process, and instead of going to the HP Recover Manager and a once more update of windows and HP drivers I tried to use my previous produced system image with windows, so I went to Control Panel and used windows recover from the image, copying all to the same place (I was prompt to replace a lot of existing files). At the end of the process a received a message about same errors generated by the process but I do not investigated at that time.
When I reboot the PC I have a “BOOTMGR is missing/ Press Ctrl+Alt+Del” message and a blinking prompt
Now if I attempt Recover Manager to do a “minimized image recover” I receive an 0xEFFFFF08 error code and if I tried the full image after a rather short time it announces that the 1st stage is finished and it goes boot to proceed with the second half of the process, it goes off and reboot with the “BOOTMGR is missing/ Press Ctrl+Alt+Del” message and a blinking prompt
Can anyone helps me? I have no HP recover disks (it seems that HP do not sell rescue disks anymore for pavilion dv7 and Win7)
    Happy 2015 for all

Create a System Repair Disk on another Windows 7 computer to use your computer if it fixes anything.
If you live in the USA/Canada, call HP at this number 1-800-334-5144, and see if you can still get a set of recovery disks otherwise the WorldWide site:
    http://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/support.html
If the recovery disks are not available through HP, they have them at Computer Surgeons:

  • Help please - Internet pages are loading but missing links + funny display

Hello, I've recently borrowed this computer - it hasn't been used for a few years. I've managed to connect it to the internet but certain sites are not loading properly - the display is all messed up and the links are missing - nothing happens when i try to click on things e.g. i can log in to my hotmail but not open any messages.
I've tried downloading the latest version of safari but it won't open, i guess because this operating system (OS X v10.2.8) can't handle it? So I tried downloading the version 1.0 again, the one it is using, to see if that would fix it - it says installation has been successful but nothing has changed..
    Please help...
    Thank you

There may be an older version of Firefox (mozilla) that may work under Jaguar 10.2.8; or see if
the Camino (mozilla) browser download page shows an older supported version for pre-10.3.9.
http://caminobrowser.org - see older version link for Jaguar 10.2.x
And there may also be an issue in viewing some web pages since the technologies for doing so
have changed; newer browsers run a later Flash and Shockwave Player plugin(s) so those are
newer than most anything in your Jaguar system.
There may need to be other things done with that computer to be able to use it. Could be it is
too old to warrant the upgrades in RAM and hard disk drive capacity, and a later OS X version.
You can see general specifications about most things Mac including models and supported OSs
from this downloadable database, it runs offline in the computer: http://mactracker.ca
For a cost efficient way to consider another more capable Mac, you could check with resellers
who also repair computers for a living; they often offer a fair limited duration guarantee and a
few may even come with an operating system. Getting the bootable Installer discs and correct
applications to run on a system may involve more footwork. Places such as wegenermedia.com
have a few good items and knowhow, too. Ones with a good reputation are worth discussion.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Help Please - X200 will not boot after Bios Upgrade - keeps asking for power on password

    Hi there,
I am new to this forum and please let me say a big Thank You for your help in advance.
I am using a lenovo thinkpad x200 running windows vista with service pack 1.
The laptop has always been running fine and has never given me any issues. Unfortunately, all this came to an end yesterday when I ran the system assistant which did a round of updates and it prompted me to reflash my bios.
I did what was instructed and closed all open applications and after the laptop restarted, there was a noise from the harddisk (the sound was basically like what happens if the harddisk suddenly loses power). Then, all i got was a black screen, no harddisk acitvity with only the power cable LED and another LED (with the shape of a N tiled at 20 degrees) on.
I searched the forum and did what was suggested in this entry: http://forum.lenovo.com/t5/X-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Blank-screen-after-Bios-Upgrade-on-X200/ta-p/29...
This is what I did so far"
I turned off the power, took out the backup battery and waited for about 30 minutes (repeated this step several times, also removing the harddisk) but to no avail.
I removed the RAM and tried booting and there was that characteristic beeping sound.
I replaced the RAM, redid the CMOS clearing, and now there is the Lenovo startup screen. However, there would be an error code 0271 (no date time) and 0251 (something about default configuration). Then, these disappear and all I am left with is the Bios Power On password prompt. Somehow no matter what I type nothing can be input into the field (and I did not create any password as far as I can remember).
I redid the clearing for the power on password by removing the backup battery as suggested at the bottom of this page http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=migr-59377   but it is no use. Each time I restart, even if I press the blue Think Vantage button or F1 or F11, I still get the same 0271 and 0251 error messages and am left with the power on password prompt.
I am really desperate as I really like my lenovo x200 and there is important data on the laptop. I would appreciate any suggestions on how I can solve this. Its amazing how a simple update can turn into such a disaster. Now i know i should never upgrade or update my Bios (or at least proceed with extreme caution).
Anyone can provide some help to get my laptop workin again?
    Thank you very much,
    Mark

  • HDX 16 1370 us notebook/ Windows 7 upgrade/ Boot Manager Missing hit ctrl + alt _ delete to restart

Hard drive was going south. I replaced it with new one. The original OS was Vista but I had upgraded to windows 7 a year ago. I placed the Windows 7 CD into the optical drive and windows begin to load. I got past the point of the screen that ask for language and so forth then my dog jumped on me and pulled the power cord from the computer. I plugged the cord back in and tried to restart the process. Now the first thing that happens is I get the message Bootmgr missing hit ctrl alt delete to restart.
I do not know what to do now.
I can't get into command prompt from shift+ F10, so I am totally lost. Is there any hope??
    Thanks

Are you saying that you inserted the Windows 7 upgrade disc to boot to? Was Windows Vista already installed on the hard drive? Have you run the hard drive test in BIOS?

  • Help please....phone icon missing from screen suddenly

Hi,suddenly I looked at my home screen and it seemed different. I noticed that the phone option is missing from the bottom of the home screen. It is usually down with the icons "mail" "safari" and "ipod". Where did it go and how can I get it back???? Thanks...

    Hello szabc,
    Welcome to the Discussions Boards!
ride1992 is correct. You may have moved the Phone icon to another page of your home screen. Fortunately the Phone icon is not one that can be deleted - only moved. Information for editing or resetting your home screen is found in the pages ride1992 mentioned.

  • Help please. Vista / CS3 Color Managment issue. Going nuts...

    Hi all.
I'm in desperate need for some assistance since time is running out on a project that needs Powerpoint.
If I use color management in Bridge and look at my NEF and Jpegs they look somewhat desaturated and lacking vibrance as in comparison to another program, like AcdSee.
When i open up in Camera Raw, and then Photoshop, it looks the same. But hwen I copy to Powerpoint - it looks very vibrant and with a lot of saturation, luminance and hue. But it looks much better "eyecatching".
If I shut of color correction in Bridge, then the picture looks just as vibrant and nice as the end result in powerpoint and it looks just as good as in AcdSee! But the steps in between, that is Camera Raw and Adobe looks awful, and I'm supposed to make some color adjustments etc, making it absolutely impossible to know what the end resutl will be, since the color management is ON in Camera Raw and Photoshop.
I've callibrated my monitor, spyder3, I've set Adobe Bridge to use CS3 for monitor. I've tried alternating between Adobe RGB and sRGB. I've tried everything there is, but the colors in Camera Raw and Phtoshop are very wrong in relation to the end result. Can I shut down color management in Photoshop? Change it to Vista's? I know Adobe is right at the end of the day, it just doesn't work with the end result!
To add on to this, I've tried AcdSee and colors are correct in the RAW format. Thus, they don't have the same color correction and this looks exactly like the end result in the powerpoint.

    >> the colors in Camera Raw and Phtoshop are very wrong in relation to the end result
Then you need to Photoshop> Convert to profile> Save As to the profile based on the end result because the end result sounds like an unmanaged application.
This is likely sRGB -- have you tried this?
What monitor, what did you profile it to (2.2 gamma/6500)?

  • Help please.  Can't boot my iMac from the optical drive.

17" flat panel, 1GHz iMac, running OS 10.2.8.
I've been trying to do some disk maintenance and would like to be able to repair my boot disk. I've tried to boot from the optical drive, using Norton SystemWorks CD-ROM and also my iMac software install and repair DVD, holding down the C key while attempting to boot. After trying for a few seconds, a gray veil drops down and a text box telling me that I have to shut down by holding the power key for many seconds shows up. (Is this a Kernel panic?)
I've also run Repair Permissions. That program seems to stall right at the end, as the status bar is 99% full, and never completes its run.
    Any suggestions?
