Help please - itunes doesnt read SIM card

Lately my iphone shuts down by itself when i turn it on
On the screen it says “Activate iphone connect to itunes”
So I connect it to itunes and a window pops up saying
“The phone “iPhone” cannot be used with iTunes because the SIM card is not installed. You must insert your SIM card into your iPhone in order to activate it.”
My SIM card is inserted into my iPhone but does not connect to itunes [i have the recent version]
I cant do anything in my phone or in itunes
I went to the apple store and they replaced the phone already for a couple of times [problem keeps happening]
So one of the people in apple told be to get a new SIM card because that might be the problem [since this problem keeps happening with the same SIM card but different phones]
Today I bought a new SIM card went to the apple store, they gave me a new iphone, they said it should be able to work
I came home again the problem happened
I need help my phone doesn’t work at all and it keeps happening

Hey BeatrizG,
If your seeing the issue with multiple iPhones and SIM cards, its most likely an external source causing the issue.
Do you have a protective case on the iPhone? If the case has a magnetic clip that could be the cause of the issue.

  • Unable to read SIM card after latest update

I downloaded the most recent android update on my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 on 12/10.  Since that update, i've gotten the message "Unable to read the SIM card.  Please restart your phone to read the card" a half-dozen times.  The timing between the messages is sparatic (one time it was a few hours between messages, another time a full day, then 12 hours the third time, etc...).
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?  Is there a simple fix to this (such as just getting a new SIM card from Verizon)?  I'd like to think that the update wasn't the culprit of this, but I've had my Note 4 since the initial release, and it's only started happening since the last update.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

I'm having the same "Unable to read the SIM card" issue. My phone is less than two months old, the unable to read SIM card issue started about a week after I purchased the phone. That was followed by a host of erratic, sporadic issues to the phone becomes unusable and the only way to temporarily fix it is to remove the battery for a few seconds.  I've gone through the factory reset with Verizon reps where I purchased the phone from as well as with a Verizon online Chat representative. In a nutshell, I got a ticket to send the phone back to Samsung in Plano, Texas to get the phone fixed, I am going to do that today because this problem is ridiculous.

  • Problem reading SIM card?

I am trying to activate my Iphone but can't get it to connect to Itunes.
All I get is an error message that the Iphone cannot be used with Itunes because the SIM card is not installed.
When I press on the "i" on the activation screen I get the message "ICCID: Unknown".
I have tried the ATT sim in another phone and it is recognized so I know that's not the problem.
My Iphone is on firmware version 1.0.2.
Any help with this would be much appreciated

First...I would start with updating iTunes to the most recent version. Second, if the iPhone is hacked or you purchased from "ANYONE" other then Apple or AT&T, then I would highly recommend you not activate the phone or upgrade to version 1.1.1 as you may end up with an expensive desk ornament. If all is lagit...then the update to iTunes should get you started. Also, make sure that your phone is connected directly to a USB port, not a hub, keyboard or monitor usb. Hope that helps.
    Good Luck

It has NEVER been possible to purchase an unlocked iPhone 3G in the US. Your phone was hacked. Updating it has re-locked it to AT&T. AT&T will NOT unlock iPhones for any reason.
The phone is now useless to you. There is no legitimate way to fix this. Buy a new phone. Preferably in India.

If you are both on the T-mobile network, the sim card should work.  If you did a Erase All Content and Settings, then she should be at the point of activation as a new device...talk to T-mobile and be sure the sim she is using is a valid sim card.

  • IPhone 3GS no longer reads sim card & now I can't update my iTunes...help?

    Hey Guys,
So, my iPhone 3GS recently got sprite spilt on it and because of that it will no longer read the sim card...so basically it's
a glorified iPod Touch at this point (meaning I can do everything on it but make phone calls or text). Before it got ruined, I purchased some music ($30 worth) on it and now when I tried to transfer my purcahses to my iTunes account on my MBA it keeps telling me that I have to put the sim card in and it won't let me sync it. When I log onto my iTunes account it shows that I purchased the songs under the Purchased tab and tells me the serial number for my receipt, but I have no way of getting my actual music onto my computer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I'd hate for all my music...and money to go to waste, thanks!

You should be able to go to "store" on iTunes and select check for available downloads. If you connect the phone and then right-click on it, it asks for the SIM before it will transfer purchases? That seems odd.

  • My iphone4 is stuck on DFU (itunes logo usb picture on my screen). When I plug it into iTunes it says sim card is not supported. It is an unlocked phone..what do I do to fix this?!

I have tried absolutely everything and don't know what to do!!

The phone is unlocked with a gevey sim that goes into the sim tray with the sim card. But the phone is not jailbroken at all. What happened is I plugged it into itunes and it was working fine until I hit restore. It went through the restore process but once my phone reloaded all that comes up on the screen is the itunes logo and the usb picture plus the option to make an emergency call. When I plug it into itunes it gives me the "sim card is not supported" message. I've tried everything to fix this..PLEASE help!

  • I updated my 4s to ios7, and had to restore it (stupidly forgot my passcode and disabled it), and now it wont activate, for 2 days... I can't activate it through iTunes because the sim card is locked. What do I do?

I need help reactivating my 4s!
I updated the software to ios7, couldn't remember my passcode (never used it before, and ios7 turned it on) and ended up disabling my phone. Erased it remotely via Find my iPhone, and now that I'm trying to restore it, it wont activate. It's been this way for 2 days now. I get the "activation server is unavailable" error. I realize Apple is struggling with their servers during this software update and launch of the new iPhone 5, but really, 2 days now??
I am currently living abroad, and am using a sim card that must be unlocked. So when I plug it into iTunes, it will not activate because the sim card is locked.
Help!! Is there anything I can do?

Try disconnecting your iPhone temporarily and then reconnecting it after a while.

Seems like you'd be well advised to take the iPhone to an Apple store and ask them to give it a look. It could be that the SIM and the phone are not connecting properly and they could test to see if that's the case. Since the SIM works well in another phone, that is likely not your problem.
The other poster likely does not have the same problem. As I recall from an earlier message he upgraded his unlocked iPhone from 3.0.1 to 3.1 which can be a problem with certain unlocked iPhones, particularly if they've been hacked.

  • 5800 not reading sim cards anymore!

hi guys, I am in the UK on the O2 network and i just recently cancelled my contract with them. I was using the 5800 with this contract and it was cancelled today when i checked my phone and there was no operator signal.
So i proceeded to switch that simcard to one of my other contracts and now the phone won't work with the other simcard(o2 as well). The phone is unlocked( i paid to unlock it), and now whatever sim i throw into it it just says "insert simcard" when i go into the network settings.
    What has happend?

Hey Kevz65, Welcome to the Nokia discussions forum!
Here are some steps to help figure out what is wrong with your phone, and hopefully in the end get you up and running.
-Ensure that the SIM card is inserted correctly. For device specific instructions how to insert SIM card, refer to the User Guide of your device available either in the sales package or on the local Nokia web site.
-Ensure that the SIM card is attached tightly and properly in the SIM card slot. The SIM card lock is not bent or damaged and it is closed.
-Use the original battery that comes with the device.
-Try with a new or different SIM card. If another SIM card does not give error message, contact your network operator or service provider to verify that your SIM card is not corrupted or is properly configured.
-If the problem persists with another SIM card, please contact Nokia Care.
If your SIM card reads "Not Accepted", your first step would be to contact your network operator or service provider.
    I hope this helps!

  • ITunes message -  the sim card inserted is not supported.

i tried to unlock my iPhone 4 from orange to giffgaff using iTunes. it failed, but left me with a message that the sim card inserted is not supported. I have replaced the orange sim back in the phone, but cannot get past the message when I reconnect to iTunes. Can anyone help?
iPhone 4 is running on IOS 7.1.2

This doesn't really have anything to do with iTunes and is probably best asked of the support teams for the cards you tried to use.  Unlocking a phone is solely the purview of the carrier to whom it is locked.
