Help Please. Lost my music Ext Hard Drive.Using my Back Up on a new Hard Drive. Itunes cant fins songs

HI there, i need some help please .....
I had a hard drive failure, external one, the i use to have all my music collection ( 550 gigas of music )
I got a new external HD and put there all the music the i had it back it up, .... same folders name, same HD name ... and i get The song “Point 0” could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?
Under itunes preferences i uncheck always " copy files to itunes media folder when adding to library "
Becouse i work with music, i created for many years playlist and also rate songs, info the i dont wanna lose, and it will be really really hard to re load all the tracks manually back agein, if i just drag my music folder on the eternal HD to itunes agein ......
My question is, why itunes wont see my music if everything its under the same folders, and folders names .. ( all my music was backed up as it was ), i just put it back on a new HD ..... how can i fix this keeping in mind the i really need to keep all my playlist songs, and raiting tags ??

Thank you for your time and help guys,.... to check the path i use to have, i select a song with the ! mark, and comand I to get hte info and inone of the info tabs, you can see where the file was located at,... and i realice i had a missing space in the folder name where my music was. Made the change, restarted itunes and the problem was fixed.

Otherwise software may be attempted to access the drive. The the computer up in Safe Mode by holding shift when you turn it on. Also be sure to power off and on the hard drive itself.

Then your iTunes must be looking at the removable disc, not your hard drive. Did you actually copy the songs onto your computer, or simply tell iTunes to look at the removable drive?
Highlight a song and click on File/Get Info/Summary>Where and check the location that iTunes has listed for the song. What does it say?

AlexCarey, I've been having issues purchasing recently and place a number of calls to the support team. On Oct. 5th, and on my own decision, I went into my itunes profile and re-entered my credit card expiration date and security code. (Notice, it is not displayed for safety measures.) Today, I received an email from Apple support verifying if I made changes made to my account. For the heck of it, I logged back into itunes; click "Buy". When adding music to iTunes, you can set it to either make a local copy of the file, or simply point to the original location of the file (for example, on an external hard drive). If it is set to do the latter, it will not be able to play or transfer those files when the external hard drive is not plugged in. You may find the following article helpful:

Well, let's hope that nothing was jiggled out of place when you were installing the new hard drive. Your optical drive may just be out of alignment or the disc you have is "dirty." Get a lint-free cloth and some rubbing alcohol, then clean the disc as thoroughly as you can starting from the center and working outward in a concentric circlular motion. See if that helps. In particular clean the inner portion well.
If this does not help, then you have a problem. You have opened the computer yourself. That action voids all support from Apple. If you take the computer in for service the store may refuse to service the computer. This is not related to your now expired warranty.

I've managed to get some back but via a slightly different method.
Because the files weren't there, when I deleted them from my library they actually disappeared from the list.... So I created a new library (backed up my original one) and then synched that with Match so that all the files appeared. I'm just going through the ones I'm missing clicking 'download' and then when they're all back on my hard drive I'll revert to the previous Library which will hopefully pick up all of the recovered files.

Please help!!! Cannot run Windows Update in Win 7 Pro after changing new hard-drive. (X201s)

I have been using my thinkpad x201s for more than one year by now. And recently I change a new and larger hard drive for my laptop. When I tried the thinkpad rescue and recovery disc on the new hard drive, everything works fine except that I cannot run Windows Updates after the installation was finished. The recovery DVDs were burned directly from the original image stored in the computer when the first I received my laptop last year.
Every time when I try to run the Windows Update, it shows the following: "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running, you may need to restart your computer."
I restarted my computer later but nothing changed. Can't run Windows Updates and can't even install IE9.
I then moved back to my old hard drive and everything is normal, no problem with Windows Updates. I also tried to create a back-up image by running win 7 Backups and Restore. Later when I changed back to the new drive and followed the instructions to restore my system from the image I created earlier in a USB drive, it worked except that still the system can't run Windows Updates program.
I'm now getting very confused and upset, is it something to do with the software copyright? It's been a week now and I tried to Google the similar problem but no solutions work here. All I want to do is moving my current system to the new hard drive so that I can continue to use my laptop but it just failed updating every time.
Could anyone kindly tell me what to do when changing hard drive in order to avoid the problem I'm dealing with? Sorry I'm not a pro type user and just want my laptop to work appropriately.
My warranty has already expired so I guess the Lenovo Technical Hotline wouldn't answer my questions anymore. Please help!! Much appreciated.

I'm not sure this is the issue, but from your description, it seems as though all you have to do is activate the windows update service. If I were you, I'd search for "Services" in the start menu, open it and look for "Windows Update". Check in its properties that it is set to "Automatic (Delayed)", if it isn't, set it, and start the service, you should then be able to check for updates, be careful though that none of your other programs aren't stopping the service, usually these programs are there to "optimize your performance" or "boost your system",...

I moved my LR5 catalog to a new hard drive and lost my COLLECTIONS. In the collections i get the messageI then locate the file in the new drive :
i locate the file and receive this message
How can i get the Collection to redirect to the new location?? I have about a LOT of missing pics in Collections.

To clarify....I moved LIGHTROOM to a new hard drive....including 1) Working catalogs, 2) Working exports, and 3) Working Originals. I now know i did not follow correct procedure for "moving a catalog". I dragged it to the new hard drive. Yikes!!
(I was at Imaging last week and spoke to Julianne Kost, she recommended that i use the FIND link....but this gave me the same result as i am speaking about above.)
To Clarify......The Collections are listed. The target path to the images did not change when i moved to the new hard drive.
There is an exclamation point in the right hand corner of the images in each collection. When i click on the exclamation mark i get the message....."“JK_120214_7782.NEF” could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" I then locate the file IN THE NEW current DRIVE...at which time i click on it and i receive the message.....
this file is associated with another photo in the catalog.... each file can only be associated with one photo. Then if i choose to show in library....it points to the image in the FOLDER tab...which is in fact where the image is located.
Up to this point, when i need one of these older collections i have had to recreate. i have manually gone to the original.....in the FOLDER tab, found the image and added to the Collections again. Then i go back and delete all the files with the ! ......a long and tedious task. I was hoping there was an easier way to recreate my "collections".
Initially i was going to just MOVE the entire library again ( the correct way) ....which i should've done i believe. Now i have imported more jobs and have created additional collections , so i'd love to find a short cut!

I've acquired most of my music threw CD's that i have owned over the years. I had my music on my old desk top and i synced it to my itouch. well in that time i have acquired a few more CD's a new computer and an iphone which i now use. So once i got my iphone i gave my mom my old itouch for Christmas (moving all my music from my itouch to my iphone in the process). The reason i cleared the music is because i thought i backed the music up on my new computer while transferring it to my new computer. well now I'm going on a vacation to a place with a lot of theft and i figured i would plug in my old mp3 player and sync it w/ itunes. That didn't work. i then decided to back up my songs onto my computer not using itunes. I believe i accidentally corrupted the files because my computer "stopped responding". so now itunes has all my old music but w/ a ! mark by it and i have no were to locate my old music from. What do you think is the best way to at least get my music back on my iphone. i don't even care about the mp3 player anymore

Unfortunately, I don't fully understand your question, but gather it is something to do with a backup in iCloud. The part that I don't understand is the iPhone 3G is not capable of running iCloud. Am I missing something here.
