HELP please my imac DV+ is about to die....

iMac DV+   Mac OS X (10.4.7)
Here's the story:
i bought an imac DV+ long ago and it worrked well all the time.
Now its completly messed up. almost every application is crashing, the performance is not available any more.
I've done everything: Ran the Disk Utility (repair disk and Directories) , ran onyx to check permissions and delete cokies and so on, i even used speedtools do defrag my 20 GB HD.....
Also i emptied my PRAM but even this wont have made it better.
Indeed 55% are in use but anyway. Even the smallest apps are slow like **** (which were running perfect just some time ago).
Well my question is what can i do to slove this?
Thank you all anyway for breaking ur heads bout that and my apologizes for my bad english

I would suggest to download OnyX and run all the scripts and maintenance/optimization options to see if you can improve a little bit your iMac.
Second suggestion: post in the iMac CRT section: maybe someone there can help you better.
Ciao,
Antonio

  • Help please! Imac won't start and running out of ideas

Help! My imac G4 Flat Panel running tiger won't boot or go beyond the grey screen, here's what happened,
I went away on holiday for ten days and unplugged it, on return it worked fine for the first few goes however after leaving it with alot of photos open for a couple of hours I returned and the screen had gone funny, showed the app window on top but not properly and grey on the bottom two thirds, I could just about move the mouse which was ghosting and it sort of worked but not properly, I switched it off on the power switch and rebooted and it was okay for a few more sessions until getting stuck with the mail app open, I tried to force quit but couldn't and eventually turned it off on the switch, after which it won't boot or go beyond the grey screen every time I switch it on, I've tried all the following with no joy:
    -unplugged all peripherals
-taken out airport card and extra ram I'd fitted myself about six months ago
    - done command, option, p and r on switching on, also command x and command option.
    - tried to boot from the original os x cd which came with it - this gives me a broken mac symbol and multicoloured spinning ball
    - boot from os9 disk which came with it this gives me a flashing question mark sometimes but most times just the grey screen.
    - boot from apple hardware test diagnostic cd which came with it, just says loading and hangs
    - boot from tiger dvd - shows the apple logo then a sign similar to no entry sign and spinning thing underneath.
I've tried rebooting about 100 times now, as it once did a similar thing about eight months ago but eventually booted okay and then I ran check permissions etc. and never had a problem until now.
I've put everything I can think of in in case any of it is important, apologies if there's too much extra info here but if anyone has any ideas I'd be very grateful, am a bit stuck without it, luckily I've backed up most of my stuff but there's some things I haven't. please help! thanks

Sorry to hear about your problem and I wish I had happy news. Sounds like what I am going through. Just spent over 200$ getting the Tiger upgrade installed at a Mac repair place because I wanted it done right, and had the RAM upgraded. After two weeks of bliss I get a gray screen with a spinning gear. The CD drawer wont open, nothing. Take it back to the shop and I find my hard drive is done. This is the SECOND hard drive. My G-4 came with a 40 gig HD, the one that they replaced it with 2 years ago was an 80 gig. I hope thats not whats going on with yours but it sure sounds like it. I beginning to wonder if there isn't a design issue going on here. I am a casual computer user but my son is on it for hours at a time and I'm wondering about heat buildup and the hard drive. Gonna ask that question when I pick it up, good luck with yours.

  • Help Please! iMac screen colours have gone crazy

Can someone please please help me to solve this problem? I was playing around with my new iMac screen settings. I made changes to the calibration colour settings. Now I notice that the colour has all gone to alpha, gamma range and is looking horrible. Can someone please help me to restore the factory settings for the display? Or suggest ways in which I can fix it please? That would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Open System Preferences->Displays->Color and select "iMac". That should be the factory default settings, as when you run the calibrator the last thing it asks you is what you want to call your calibrated profile. The default name is "iMac Calibrated" which should be in that list too. If its not there and you overwrote the original, click the "Calibrate" button again and just click through it using the default choices it gives you. This will return the display to its default look.

  • Help Please! Imac is frozen...Reboot problems

    Hi,
I am using an Imac - Tiger version 10.4.9. I was having problems viewing some avi files so I tried downloading Quicktime for this version of OSX. After installing the software and re-starting my Mac, it starts but nothing works. All the information & files have gone missing from my desktop and I cant use any applications. I have tried re-starting a number of times but nothing changes. I thought I would be able to re-install the Apple software from disc but after inserting the OSX disc into my mac it doesnt read it.
Can anyone help me? What can I try next?
    Thanks
    Chris

  • Can you help, please?  Time sensitive question about import quality.

    Hi,
Didn't get an answer the first time, so with a little more research on my part I discovered that:
Video clips shot with my S95 Powershot, imported automatically into iPhoto then into iMovie, are 1280x720 H.264, Linear PCM, and look fantastic. Same scene clips shot with a Canon Vixea videocam, are imported automatically into iMovie and become 960x540, Apple Intermediate Codec, Linear PCM, and look pretty bad. Is there any way to get the video camera clips to import as H.264 quality files? Is it something to do with how the still camera imports first into iPhoto, or is it just that the still camera is much better than the videocam? Sorry I'm a newbie to all of this.
The thing is, if it's the camera'a fault, I still have a week to return it and get my money back.
    thanks very much!
    Josh

When you have your ipod plugged in select it from the source list (on the left where the songs are). The first item should be 'launch itunes when...[you plug it in]' turn that off.
Not sure..looking at the mac version.
    Good Luck,

  • Hi, I have been using CS5 for a while now, but had to wipe my computer clean last night and now am unable to re-install my adobe on the same computer. Help please.

Hi, I have been using CS5 for a while now, but had to wipe my computer clean last night and now am unable to re-install my adobe on the same computer. Help please.

Can you describe more about what you summarize as "unable to re-install my adobe on the same computer." ?  What actions do you take and what results?  What messages do you get?  Are you able to install it on a different computer?
Since you use the word "same", it might be a case that you do have another machine that the install is functional on.  If so, or even if you installed a couple of times on the same machine, it might be a case where your activation allowance has been used up and you need to have them reset.  If you contact Adobe Support thru chat you can ask them to reset your activations so that you have the two allotted to you available again.
For the link below click the Still Need Help? option in the blue area at the bottom and choose the chat option...

  • HELP please! iphone not working because of 2.02 update!

So my phone is not working. AT ALL.
It just shows that I need to plug in my iphone cord and then an arrow that points to the iTunes icon. Then I've been doing that, but it prompts me in iTunes that I need to Restore. So I click restore and it says "contacting the iPhone software update server..." for 15 MINUTES now.
I am absolutely furious because I haven't been able to use my phone for 3 hours now and this is taking forever. It came out of nowhere.
I also have a stable internet connection. Is the iTunes store messed up right now? someone help please!

Sorry to hear about your problems...iTunes Store appears to be working properly right now. Did you already have the 2.0.2 update on the iPhone? If so, you should have the backup file in your computer under Users/(your user)/Library/iTunes/iPhoneSoftwareUpdates. If it isn't there, you should be able to download it from the apple site (I think). If not, you can install ANY version of the software by holding down the 'option' key while clicking 'Restore' (not sure which modifier key to hold in Windows)...this will bring you to a dialog box that will let you select a file...navigate to the above mentioned folder and choose the latest software you have. Good luck!!!

Remote App on iPad connects but drops after about  20 mins. Need to turn  off wait about 1 minute, then turn on wifi on iMac before it can reconnect. Need some help please.
Already gone through troubleshooting guide a zillion times. Thanks.

This worked for me... A little time consuming but once you get rolling it goes GREAT... Thanks....
I got my artwork and saved it to my Desktop
Opened up Microsoft Paint and clicked on "File" and "Open" and found it to get it on the screen to resize it
Clicked "resize" and a box for changing it opened up
Checked the box "Pixels" and "Unchecked maintain aspect ratio"
Set Horizontal for 640 and Vertical for 480
Clicked on "OK" and went back to "File" and did a "Save As" and chose JPEG Picture
It came up "File Already Existed" and clicked "OK" (really did not care about the original artwork I found because wrong size)
Went to iTunes and on the movie right clicked on "Get Info", clicked on "Details", then "Artwork"
Go to the little box on the top left that shows your old artwork and click on it to get the little blue border to appear around it and hit "Delete" to make it gone
Click on "Add Artwork" and find it where you put the one from above on your Desktop and hit "Open" and OK and your new artwork is now there and all good.
Sounds like a lot of steps to follow but after around 5 or so you will fly through it. This worked perfect on my iPhone 6 Plus and I have artwork on my Home Videos now.

  • Safari 5.1 in iMac OS X 10.6.8.Adding Bookmarks to "unsorted Bookmarks" folder puts them in a black hole.  I can't find the "UB" folder.  Where is it? Should I add it to the folder list somewhere on the left pane? OR? Help, please!

It looks like that the installation process of one of the applications have caused some trouble. One of them may have changed or added kext files.
For that, the Window server crashed if you try to open a non Apple application like Firefox
Start the system in safe mode by holding the shift key on power on.
If save mode is reached, perform a permissions repair with the Disk Utility.
Don't bother about upcoming warnings like "could not repair file xy" as that occur cause you use the tool on a running system and opened files can not get touched by the tool.
After repair is done reboot system to normal and try to open Firefox.
If the problem persits, please report back here.

  • Frustratingly, since I upgraded to Yosemite 10.10, I too am having the worst problems with WiFi dropping out. I've never had this problem before on my iMac 27-inch mid 2011 model. Turning WiFi off and then back on again sometimes works. Help please.

Frustratingly, since I upgraded to Yosemite 10.10, I too am having the worst problems with WiFi dropping out. I've never had this problem before on my iMac 27-inch mid 2011 model. Turning WiFi off and then back on again sometimes works. Help please. I've already tried a lot of your suggested fixes, but without success. Why hasn't Apple Fixed this?

Please test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take the applicable steps in this support article. The Wireless Diagnostics program generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 2
Disconnect all USB 3 devices. If you don't know which are USB 3, disconnect all USB devices except keyboard and mouse.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. If you find that Wi-Fi works better with Bluetooth disabled, you should use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band. Your router may not support it; in that case, you need a new router.
    Step 4
Open the Energy Saver pane in System Preferences and unlock the settings, if necessary. Select the Power Adapter  tab, if there is one. Uncheck the box marked
              Wake for Wi-Fi network access
    if it's checked.
    Step 5
Open the Network pane in System Preferences and make a note of your settings in the Wi-Fi service. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the various tabs in the preference pane. If the preference pane is locked, unlock it by clicking the padlock icon and entering your administrator password. Delete Wi-Fi from the service list on the left by selecting it and clicking the minus-sign button at the bottom. Then recreate the service by clicking the plus-sign button and following the prompts.
    Step 6
    In the Wi-Fi settings, select
              Advanced... ▹ TCP/IP ▹ Configure IPv6: Link-local
    Click OK and then Apply.
    Step 7
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 8
    Reset the PRAM.
    Step 9
Launch the Keychain Access application. Search for and delete all AirPort network password items that refer to the network. Make a note of the password first.
    Step 10
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

  • Hi i want to upgrade my iMac from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to OS X Mavericks or OS X Yosemite. My software update menu dosnn´t find any updates available. Help please, what can i do to upgrade to OS X Mavericks or newer version?

Hi i want to upgrade my iMac from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to OS X Mavericks or OS X Yosemite. My software update menu dosnn´t find any updates available. Help please, what can i do to upgrade to OS X Mavericks or newer version?

Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, the computer's also incompatible with Mountain Lion and Mavericks; if desired, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

And one-year free repair service. Three years or more for tech support and repair if you bought the AppleCare Protection Plan, which is the best warranty policy available for desktop machines. Get it if you don't have it before contacting Apple.

  • Please help! My iMac cannot play videos without crashing!

Hi there, I've had my iMac for about two years, it was a gift given to us. In the last four months it's begun to have issues playing videos. After 30 minutes the videos start to lag and chop and the sound will not play either; the sound becomes very grainy and then it just starts to lag a lot.
Everything else works fine though, surfing the web, using photo-shop, etc. I should also mention that this dose not occur when I stream or listen to music, although, at times it does chop, but after 2 minutes it stops and plays the music fine.
The Mac was a gift as I mentioned before, it dose have a lot of programs and files on it from the previous owner; I'm not sure if perhaps it's just a matter of the hard-drive being over loaded or not
If anyone out there has the tools or knowledge to fix this, that's be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you very much,
    Have a wonderful day,
    Mitch
