Help Please! my JPG files suddenly won't save paths

I'm using CS5 on a mac. I've always been able to save JPG files with clipping paths intact. Suddenly today the paths won't save. I do a 'save as' and the path is there. When I close the file and open it up again, the path (not work path, but a saved path) is gone. No path in the path panel list! I am guessing I must have accidentally changed a setting?? Not sure what else it could be short of a software bug. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

That's a bit strange. I am not aware of a setting that would cause the path not to be saved.
The two circumstances to investigate are: i) was the path not saved and ii) are you not seeing it for some reason. The only way I am aware of to not save the path is to save the file as a jpg via Save For Web & Devices.
If the file was parsed by some other viewer & saved after it left photoshop then you could loose the path, though this is not common. Also, if you happen to open the jpg via camera raw it would also not be parsed to include the path.
Paulo
P.S.   Perhaps you could post a sample jpg file that you believe should have a path that you cannot see.

  • Little help please regarding deleting files and folders...

My wife has a MBP and has accumulated some old items in her documents folder that she'd like to delete. She has a USB mouse but the "right click" doesn't appear to work. She's running 10.4.11 and can't reveal the files in icon mode to facilitate dragging to trash. Certainly there is a sequence of keystroke commands that will allow these files to be effectively trashed, but our "control/delete", or "apple/delete", or "option/delete" doesn't do the trick after highlighting the subject file. Help please! TIA!

To delete a file or folder, high light it then using the keyboard type Command Delete and that will delete it. If you have multiple files and/or folders the same keyboard commands apply.
    Regards,
    Roger

  • HELP PLEASE!!! Computer won't start up

    Help Please!
My computer won't start up, when I click the start up button the light comes only once, sounds click (once) and that's it, no power up.
Because of the age, I knew that the battery could be the reason, so I ordered the exact same battery and replaced it today (following the instructions very carefully). Nothing changed. Then I read about the button for resetting the power management (the one below the ram memory), did that too...and nothing.
I read the manual, it talks about recently installed components (which I have not) and explains the meaning of the numbers of blinks the power light makes with this type of failure, 2 blinks=ram memory, 3 blinks...4 blinks..more than 5 blinks= take it to service.
If somebody could please help me, I would really appreciate
    All the best,
    Veronica

I had similar problems with my G5 2ghz dual PPC. Mine would turn on, sometimes the startup chime would sound, sometimes not. The fans would run and continue to run faster and faster until I shut it off.
The red light comes on by the way, when the internal plastic shield is not installed or seated correctly.
Anyway, I determined after fooling with the machine for several hours that the symptoms pointed to the video card so, on a hunch, I grabbed a hair drier, pulled the video card and warmed up the video card with the drier. Then reinstalled the video card, hooked up the monitor and hit the power button. Bingo, the machine booted normally. BUT, it would intermittently hang or act odd while running so, I ordered a replacement video card. Installed it and the problem never returned. Sadly someone stole the machine last month but it was in perfect working order at the time:(

    Hello Creative Cloud Illustrator Community:
    Help Please!
This is with regard to creating a compound path:
I have set some white type on a circle and then created outlines. I then placed the outlined type on a black stroked ring which I then selected "outlined stroke." I then put both "outlined" graphical elements on a separate solid bkg. (all 3 are on the same layer). Lastly, I then selected the top two elements and went to "make" a "compound path" (because I want the type to be the "holes" so I can see through to the background). However, the only effect I get is the white outlined type turning black (the same color as the black ring). What am i doing wrong? I can achieve the desired result with simple boxes but it won't work with a circular type path, a stroked ring and a solid bkg.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank You!

    Thanks for the response Jacob.
Unfortunately, I tried your suggestion with no success. BTW, minus front is now Subtract. Apparently, by clicking option>subtract, it works in the same way as minus front. I tried this to no avail.
    Let me reiterate please.
I have 3 graphic elements-all on the same layer:
    1. Background: Gold circle with a fill and no stroke.
    2. Middle: Black ring (Stroked) inside gold background circle.
    3. Top: White copy set on a circular type path and placed directly on top of middle black ring.
Both the middle black ring and top type path HAVE BEEN CONVERTED TO OUTLINES.
LASTLY, I select the Middle and Top, go to Compound Paths and choose "Make" and my white copy turns to black. Wrong!
WHAT I WANT TO HAPPEN: I want the white copy to become HOLES, so the GOLD background shows through.
Any solutions would be very much appreciated!

  • My CSS file name won't save & won't stay linked to my pages.

    Hi there,
I moved my internal style sheet to an external style sheet and it won't save as the file name i give it, it saves as "untitled".
-i am unable to change file name in the code or directly on the file icon....it just reverts back to "untitled".
-i deceided oh well my style sheet will be called "untitled" and proceeded to work.
-i linked a few of my pages to "untitled" and saved them.
-this morninging when i opened my project up none of the styles were saved on any of the pages so i went to relink again then close and open them.   the same thing accured, none of the styles were saved.
    i am working in CS3
this is what i did to move my internal style sheet to an external style sheet
went to my CSS styles pannel and selected all
    -selected all my rules
-command clicked on the rules and chose ""move to external rules"
    - in the "move to external rules" dialogue box i chose - move rules to "a new style sheet" and click ok
    - in my "save sheet file as" dialogue box i browse to the folder (assets) where i want to save my new style sheet and name it "styles.css"
this is what i did to link my pages to the external style sheet
in the CSS styles pannel i clicke dthe attach style sheet button
in the "attach external style sheet" dialogue box i browse to "untitled" and add as a link
note: the code to link to my external sheet is still in my code <link href="assets/untitled.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
any knowledge anybody can share with me?  im new to dreamweaver...i am teaching myself so any help would be great.  thanks!

The simplest way to create an external CSS file is to use File menu > New > CSS.
Open your HTML document in code view.
Cut or Ctrl+X the CSS rules - everything between the <style type="text/css"> and </style> tags.
Switch to the new CSS file and paste style rules into the blank page.
    Hit Ctrl+S to save filename.css
Link external stylesheet to HTML document.

  • File associations won't save in KDE 4.2 (Kmail specifically)

Kmail asked me every time what I want to open .DOC files with.  Click "save" doesn't fix it.  Very frustrating and I can't find a solution anywhere.
It is set right in the KDE file associations under systemsettings.  It opens correctly in Dolphin so I think it's a Kontact/Kmail problem.  But I got nuthin on this....
    Can anyone help?

If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers and other plug-ins from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed 10.4.11 and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 uses Safari 3.0.4 which is not a beta. If Safari 3.0.4 on 10.4.11 is not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
Moreover, trying to revert to Safari 2 when running 10.4.11 can have repercussions, as Safari 3.0.4 uses a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail, Dashboard widgets etc also rely.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Two such add-on that have been frequently mentioned here, among others, for causing such problems are Piclens and Pithhelmet. If you have them, trash them and go the developer's sites to see if new versions are available for Safari 3.0.4.
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11 or Leopard, that you have downloaded and installed the correct version for your Mac of Security Update 2007-009, which also deals with the Quicktime/Flash issues you may have experienced, as well as the latest Java update.

  • Quicktime files suddenly won't open

Hi, I'm running OS 10.8.5.  Recently updated some codecs and various other updates for my OS--the most recent updates.  Now my videos will not open, nor will jpg's open in Preview! (?)  No error messages, just won't open.  I am a video artist, and have various file types--it won't open any .mov, .mp4, or any others.  All do open in VLC, so it's not the vids.  I've been running QT 10.2 with no problem till now.  Some weirdness: I noticed that when I updated iTunes (which may have nothing to do w/ this), it updated to the Yosemite version (12.0.1.26), though my OS is Mountain Lion.  Help?

Unfortunately, the latest version of QuickTime does not have the ability to export using third-party plug-ins, however Apple has made QuickTime 7 available to install alongside QuickTime X. You can install it from the Snow Leopard install disk or by running a Quartz (*.qtz) file.
QuickTime 7 will install to your Applications/Utilities folder.

  • Help Please with moving files from an External HD to a New Hard Drive

OK My Powermac MDD's Hard Drive Needs Replacing, but before I replace it I was told to buy Super Duper software and backup my hard drive and the applications onto an external Hard Drive. I am going to go and buy another external Hard Drive tomorrow and do this, but I have a few questions...
What do I need to do to do this successfully? Please explain in the simplest of terms.
Here's the steps as far as I understand. Please correct where necessary.
    1. Buy an external HD like an LaCie for example.
    2. Attach the LaCie external Hard Drive to my mac. *What Do I need to do to set it up to use with Super Duper? Please explain this in detail if possible as it is really confusing me how to set up my external LaCie Hard Drive so I can move my Files to it using Super Duper and then put the files back onto a new Hard Drive!*
I've read I need to be able to "boot from the External Hard Drive" after I copy my files there using Super Duper. What do they mean by booting from the hard drive?
Do I need to "format" my new LaCie Hard Drive?
What do I use to format the LaCie Hard Drive? I think the last time I didn't have to do anything, when I used my external Hard Drive for storage only, but do I have to do something special now that I want to copy my whole hard Drive from the LaCe external back ont a "New" G4 Hard Drive?
    3. Buy or Download "Super Duper" software to copy all of the contents of my Hard Drive to the LaCie external Hard Drive. Does anyone know if the demo will do this or do I need the advanced features?

Thanks Japamac, Wel this is a very lengthy reply so forgive me but I feel like I am getting close to understanding this so please bear with me. Thanks! Well I see I have 2 options that both sound viable. I ran disc utility and under S.M.A.R.T. it said: Failure. The only application I can't open is Safari and the drive is still turning properly and semi-reliable though, so I may be alright to clone still. There is stil the issue of errors though. If there are errors I agree with you I don't want to copy themm over to a new drive but can I not run disc utility after I copy verything over to the new drive?
My reason for wanting to use Super Duper is that I have about 23 applications that all have different serial no's etc. and to reinstall all of these would take a considerable amount of time, so that's why I was wanting to use SD, but if "Migrate Assistant" will copy over applications like Photoshop, Mail and other applications then I think that might be a lot better because my install would be a lot cleaner and I could only install what I needed. What do you think?
It looks like "Migration Assistant" only comes with Tiger. This throws a wrench into things. What would you do? Would you buy Tiger or just use Super Duper etc. Can I install Tiger onto my external Hard Drive only and then use "Migration Assistant" to transfer files over even if my Hard Drive only uses Panther? Sorry for all the questions but I see there are a few ways to do this and I want to use the method that will work best. : )
So if i use Migrate Assistant do I need to copy over my system preferences too? I think if I copy my applications they will create new preferences when launched won't they. Also would all of my "Mail" information be copied over using "Migrate Assistant"
    Method #1 (Using Super Duper)
    1) Install the external HD and format it using "Disc Utility"
    2) Run "Super Duper" and clone my hard Drive to the external Drive.
    3) Disconnect the external Hard Drive
    4) Disconnect the computer and install the new hard drive
    5) Reconnect the external Hard Drive and Run "Super Duper" and transfer the information back to the new hard drive.
    6) Run Disc Utility and fix any errors.
    7) "Erase" the contents from the external Hard Drive
    8) Done!
    Method #2 (Using Migrate Assistant)
    1) Use the mac G4 discs and select the "External Hard Drive" and Install the OS from the install disc directly to the "External Hard Drive".
    2) Then use my Panther discs and select the "External Hard Drive" and install Panther to the "External Hard Drive".
    3) Go into "Preferences" and select "External Hard Drive" as my "Startup Disc" so it will "boot" to the "External Hard Drive".
    4) Use "Migrate Assistant" to migrate or transfer only software applications (Photoshop. Mail, Address Book etc.) from the "old" hard drive to the "External Hard Drive".
    5) Disconnect the external Hard Drive
    6) Disconnect the computer and install the new hard drive
    7) Reconnect the external Hard Drive and Run "Super Duper" and transfer the information back to the new hard drive.
    8) no need to run Disc utility as it's like a clean install.
    9) "Erase" the contents from the external Hard Drive
    10) Done!
Please tell me if I have missed a step or if a step is incorrect in the above 2 methods.
    Q) I can't find my G4 install discs, can I use my Panther install discs instead?
    Q) Does "Migrate Assistant" come with Panther or does it only come with the mac install discs?
    Q) Will "Migrate Assistant" copy over my "Mail" application and it's setting or do I need to totally reinstall that?
    Q) How long does "Migrate Assistant" take to transfer vs.. Super Duper?

  • HELP. External hard drive suddenly won't show up on Mac.

So, I left for a few minutes and when I got back, there was that warning on my screen that said the disc wasn't ejected properly, etc. Which was weird because the drive was still plugged in fine. Anyway, when this happens, I usually just pull the hard drive out then plug it back in and it works fine but now it won't show up on the desktop or on the disk utility I got it to show up on disk utility once, but the subheading under the hard drive was greyed out. I could click it but when I tried to run Verify or Repair, nothing would happen. It would show up on the history as "repaired disc" but NOTHING. And I am honestly freaking out Please help, anyone

I'd have to agree with WZZZ. That sounds like either a bad connection, bad cable, or faulty supply. The port could be bad as well but the cable either being bad or not properly plugged in or maybe even worn out. When the "disk ejected" message shows up it's usually because somehow the cable was yanked out of the system while it was plugged in. Intermittenet connections in the cable, particularly in supply lines between the drive and the unit can cause this to happen as well...it's as if you unplugged the external hard drive from the system for a very short time, but the system still picks it up and sees it as bad.

  • Help please on basic file management.

    Hi,
I am new to this forum and Aperture andrelatively new to Mac (recent convert from PC). I am also a keenamateur photographer.
I have many images captured from a variety of DSLR's over the years and have loaded all of them into Aperture over recent weeks.
However, I am not totally sure what Ihave done and what I can do to find out what I have done!!
    (Any suggestions?)
I have a MacBook Pro Mid 2010 with 500GB and a Time Capsule for back-up.
Depending on where I look I appear to have something in the order of 33,000 images. I know that there are certainly several thousand that should be discarded and I hope that Aperture will help me identify these culprits down the line, once I have got to grips with the logic.
It appears that I have input about half my images as Referenced (21,000) and half as Managed (19,000). I have no idea how I achieved that but according to the filter utility that is the case.
(Should I and how can I make the Referenced images Managed?)
I have for some years been capturing both RAW and JPEG and am not able to establish which is the master. Indeed I would not be surprised if some masters are the JPEG and some the RAW. As I only work on a RAW file when I have to and primarily work with the JPEG I suspect it would be best to have the JPEG as the master and access the RAW when necessary via the “show in Finder” option – correct?
Within the Library I have created 8 Folders, each with several Projects, into which I have placed my images (Managed and Referenced). Now that I have a clearer picture of the different categories that my images fall into I am of a mind to split the library into three. I think I can find plenty of advice on how to go about splitting the library up but can somebody confirmthat I should rationalize the managed/referenced and RAW/JPEG master situation first.
I know this is rather a long list ofquestions (and I'm sure I will have others) but while I still have a little hair on my head can somebody come to my rescue please?
    Thanks
    John

    Kirby,
Thank you for taking the time to answer my post. Your attached document has been very helpful in clarifying some of my doubts.
Regarding my Managed/Referenced situation, for me I think it makes sense to have all my masters in the one location so Managed would appear to be the logical location, given that they can be re-allocated in the future if required.
I am fairly certain that I have imported both RAW and JPEG but don't know how to confirm this and identify which is the master. I think I read somewhere that it was best to make the JPEG the master so presumably that is what I have done but can't be certain. That being the case how do I access the RAW as I sometimes need to do this? Another reason for being able to identify whether the master is JPEG or RAW is that when I started I knowingly loaded many duplicate or near duplicated images from various locations on my PC believing that Aperture would make it simpler for me to decide which to delete.
Another strange thing seems to have happened which I'm sure must have a simple answer that eludes me is that on doing a search with the Filter function I find I have almost15000 Managed TIFF images. I have only once, years ago bothered to convert some images (less than a few hundred) to TIFF so suspect this is something unique to Aperture.
Finally, I am in no rush to split my library. At one time I did wonder but found if I switched face recognition off there was no need. On thinking about this there may well be a case for creating a library for family snaps of which Ihave many but that's for the future.
Thank you once again for taking the time I really do appreciate it.

  • FCE file suddenly won't open; FCE crashes

A FCE 3.5.1 project that I've been working on for months, suddenly crashes the application.
The file is 3.5Mb. It opens to 48%, says it's "preparing video for display", and then "FCE quit unexpectedly". Other projects open fine. I've removed preferences and reinstalled the application from scratch - no luck. The last time I opened and edited the project (4/6/08) it worked fine; quit gracefully. Since then, I've done a few SW upgrades (listed below). Using Time Machine, I went back to the previous version of Quicktime - no luck. I added another 1Gig of memory - no luck.
I'm starting to panic based on the hours I've put into this project to-date.
    2008-04-06 21:59:17 -0700: Installed "Keynote Update" (4.0.3)
    2008-04-06 21:59:25 -0700: Installed "Front Row Update" (2.1.3)
    2008-04-06 22:00:02 -0700: Installed "QuickTime" (7.4.5)

2008-04-13 08:53:03 -0700: Installed "Final Cut Express HD Update" (3.5.1)

Additional information: I get the following messages in Console when I tried to open the project in question.
4/14/08 8:15:29 PM [0x0-0x18018].com.apple.FinalCutExpress[171] Final Cut Express HD(171,0xa02bffa0) malloc: * error for object 0x2bdba600: incorrect checksum for freed object - object was probably modified after being freed.
    4/14/08 8:15:29 PM [0x0-0x18018].com.apple.FinalCutExpress[171] * set a breakpoint in mallocerrorbreak to debug
I deleted the render files and the error in Console changed to the following:
    4/14/08 8:15:33 PM com.apple.launchd[105] ([0x0-0x18018].com.apple.FinalCutExpress[171]) Exited abnormally: Segmentation fault

  • Help please...AE CS6 won't let me replace clips in the timeline

After Effects won't let me replace clips in the timeline.
I have selected the clip I want to replace.
I have selected the new clip in the project window.
I then option-drag the new clip to the timeline and it will only let me drop the clip in making a new track above or below the clip I want to replace.
It won't allow me to replace it.
    I'm using CS6 on an iMAC 3.1 Intel Corei5  16GB RAM.
I've been using AE since 1996 and have not had this problem.
    Can anyone help? ~ thanks!

This one actually shows the correct file highlighted in the project window - I'm trying to replace the png in the timeline with the AI file in the project window.

  • Help please importing mpeg files to be edited with Final Cut Studio

Hey everyone, new to the video editing thing. I have a JVC GY-HM100U Pro HD camcorder and a MacBook Pro 5,1 with 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 4 GB 1067 MHz DPR3, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M & NVIDIA GeForce 9600MGT running OSX 10.5.8. Have recorded footage in mpeg4 and want to now edit using Final Cut Pro 7. Have downloaded Quicktime Pro and am still getting a "the movie could not be opened when trying to import the mp4 file. The movie contains some invalid data" window when trying to open the mpeg4 file. I have also downloaded DivX, FF Player, & Handbrake if these help convert to another supported file format. Please help!

That camera is promoted on the JVC website as being Final Cut Pro compatible.
Have you tried to import the clips via Log & Transfer?
You might also want to read up on the [workflow for that type of camera|http://documentation.apple.com/en/finalcutpro/professionalformatsandwork flows/#chapter=6%26section=0].
    Have downloaded Quicktime Pro....
QuickTime Pro is installed automaticallly with Final Cut Studio. No need to buy it again.
I have also downloaded DivX, FF Player, & Handbrake...
That software is all pretty much useless for working with Final Cut Studio.
MPEG Streamclip is free and much better.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
