Help Please! New to the IPod

Hello, just purchased an IPod touch (4th generation) for my son for his birthday, and we have been trying to get it up and running. When I plug it into my computer it makes the computer chime like it does when other USB devices are plugged in, yet I can not see it anywhere, and the only thing the IPod will show is the USB connect to Itunes?? I have installed, uninstalled, and reinstalled itunes 10, still no go. I have restarted the IPod and the computer many times and still not working. We did have an IPod shuffle a year or so ago that worked just fine on this machine, we can actually still see the playlist for it in the itunes even after reinstalling. Can anyone help?? Thank you for your time.

Sorry for late reply. Now, in Add/Remove Programs Window in Control Panel, Uninstall iTunes step by step as mentioned below:
1. iTunes
2. QuickTime
3. Apple Software Update
4. Apple Mobile Device Support
5. Bonjour
6. Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Now, open Run window and type regedit. Registry windows appears. On left side column expand CURRENT_USER and then expand SOFTWARE. Search for Apple Computer or iTunes, highlight it then delete it by right clicking it and choosing delete.
Now again choose LOCAL_MACHINE, expand SOFTWARE and delete Apple registry files as described above.
You must also delete iTunes files from C:\Users\Account_Name\AppData where Account_Name stands for your logging name on windows. On this window open LOCAL AND LOCALLOW folders and delete Apple Computer folders from each.
Now restart your computer and reinstall iTunes.
I do hope it will solve the issue.
Do post your progress

  • What is new in the iPod Touch 5?

Hello I was wondering what is going to be new in the iPod Touch 5? Thanks!

Apple has not yet made any announcement with regards to the 5G iPod Touch.  It is against the erms of use of this forum to speculate on such things.  Google if you want to see what others are speculating.

  • Help Please - New iPod Classic will not sync with existing iTunes library

Please help, I have researched every forum I can find and all the suggested tips have not worked for me.  Here is my problem.....
I have a new laptop and a new iPod classic.  I have checked and both have the most up to date software.  I have logged into iTunes and all the music and films I had purchased previously is showing.
I thought I simply had to log into iTunes, authorise the laptop, plug in my Ipod and then sync the music and films from iTunes onto my iPod.
When I do the there is a message within seconds to say the iPod sync is completed but the iPod remains empty.  I can't figure out where I have gone wrong.
    All suggestions gratefully received

Problem solved.  It seems that iTunes archived my music to iCloud so once I downloaded all the files again they sync'd rght away

  • Happy New Year and help Please!!! IPOD 4th GEN won't Synch??

    Hello,
And, thanks for reading my question. I recently purchased an IPOD 4th GEN touch from Gamestop. I previously had an ipod that was stolen a few years ago. I had 2000 songs on my itunes and just haven't used it till now.
When I bought the IPOD I ensured that my itunes and ipod were using the most current software. However, it is not synching my music. It will let me start to synch and then go through steps 1&2 of a five step process before it tells me that itunes has encountered a problem and must shut down. There is no specific code it gives me it just asks whether I'd like to send an error report or not.
I have ensured my firewall was off. I restarted the IPOD and computer, and still nothing. Same error message and itunes shuts off. I have installed the latest updates to bonjour and quicktime, restarted, and still no remedy.
I was tempted to uninstall everything but am afraid of losing my music. Only 30-40 songs are in my icloud. I imported the other songs to itunes a long time ago.
Does anyone know how I can get these songs on my ipod? Thanks in advance for any help and Happy New Year to all...

You probably need to set up automatic syncing.  If you do not set it up, it will still "sync" but it will sync nothing.
In iTunes 12, select the iPod so that you see its Summary settings screen (click the "device button" on horizontal bar).  In the iPod's sidebar, under Settings, click Music.  To the right is the iPod's Music settings screen, where you tell iTunes how to sync your iPod.
Check the box for Sync Music.  This enables automatic syncing for songs.  Below that, if your entire iTunes library fits on your iPod, you can choose the option to sync Entire music library.
Otherwise, you can choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Then, select what you want to sync from the lists below.  On convenient way to set this up is to create one or more playlists in your iTunes library with songs just for the iPod.  Or you can use existing playlists.  On the iPod's Music settings screen, find and select (checkmark) just those playlists under Playlists.
When you click Apply, iTunes syncs your iPod with your selection(s) on the iPod's Music settings screen, and keeps it "in sync" automatically.

  • Help, I'm new to the iPod

I bought the iPod nano yesterday and bought the Griffin RoadTrip for the car that charges and has the FM Transmitter. The problem is that when I plug my iPod into it, it charges but won't play over the radio. Yes, I do have my station on the same frequency it shows on the display. Yes, I did hit play on the iPod. I guess my question is, my iPod doesn't play without headphones, but the roadtrip has no connection for my headphone jack, is that the problem, or is there a setting in the iPod I'm missing to get it working. Thanks, I'm still an iPod retard right now trying to figure it out.

    Hello moog,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Have you tried resetting your nano?

  • New to the Ipod World and Needing Help

Im use to using the diffrent mp3 player's. I was hoping to know if its possible to sync music from Windows Media Player to the Ipod Nano 5th Generation. I tried and my Ipod says no music but its taking up space.

You need to use iTunes and add the songs to your iTunes library then sync them from iTunes. If they are copy protected songs you purchased they will not be added to your library.

  • Help, couldn't access the ipod on itunes

I just got new `160gb ipod classic. Everytime i connect the ipod into my pc, it shows up on my itunes but when I expanded the chevron icon, it shows nothing and has only option to eject it. Please help, because i want to erase all the songs on my ipod. Thanks

If you want to erase everything then restore your iPod. Restoring will erase the iPod's hard drive, reload the software and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions and it should connect to iTunes and give you a prompt to automatically update your library onto the fresh installation. If you don't want everything to go back onto the iPod choose no and it will default to manual mode. From there you can drag whatever content you want to it or you can change to another setting such as "sync music - selected playlists": Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes 7

  • This is prob a real simple question - but i am new to the ipod experience

so please be gentle with me. i got a nano recently and love everything about it, and in relation to iunes it has taken over as my media player.
however tonight when i hooked up the nano to change the laylists etc i get the recognition of the nano, the list of tracks on it but i am an unable to update it. now i have ched the settings and nothing has changed over the last week of use, except for a small locked padlock down on the bottom section of the itunes menu (next to the space gauge for the nano) and i cant work out how to remove it or change it. the nano is not in the HOLD position and i have no active parental controls.
i am lost and what annoys me most is it is prob the simplest thing to fix (if you know how). so could any of you fine people tell the idiot what he has done wrong?
    thanks
    the itunes idiot

The padlock icon indicates that iTunes is set for automatic synchronization to your iPod. Any changes you make in iTunes should automatically be reflected on your iPod. Are you attempting to make changes directly on your iPod as mounted in iTunes (which you cannot do unless you set iTunes for manual synchronization); i.e. you're trying to alter the playlists and tracks as shown under the disclosure list for your iPod in the iTunes Source list? Or are you changing the playlists, etc. created in iTunes?
If you're not clear on all of this, you might find the iPod/iTunes tutorials helpful.
    Regards.

  • HELP PLEASE!!! ipod classic 120gb is skiping parts of songs

i had an ipod nano 4th gen be for it and quickly maxed out its memory. so for my birthday this year i figured id up grade to an ipod classic 120gb (6th gen). i just got this thing 3 days ago. i reset it for PC's and loaded my music on. now its skipping parts of songs. it will play through half of a song, or less, and then jump to the next. and some times when i try to go back to the song it skipped it freezes and restarts its self on me. help please?
oh and before you go and say "just restore the thing" i cant. i live out in the middle of nowhere and the internet/itunes connection takes for ever. it took 11 hours for it to download the software update for PC's. and now it wants me to re-download it.

I had the same problem with iTunes 10.3.1.55 on WinXP and the steps in the link referred to here https://discussions.apple.com/message/15394615#15394615 fixed it for me.

  • Help please.  My newish Ipod won't charge and won't connect to itunes

    Hello,
I have had a 20 gb ipod for a month or two and just the other day I put it to charge (not for the first time) and it didn't connect. I have a docker and that didn't work either. I tried to connect to itunes on both laptop and home computer and it didn't register the ipod.
I guess there might be a loose connection in the bottom of the ipod? I am still under guarantee but can't make head nor tail of the site. If I call I get charged automatically 37 pounds for on line support (I am not within the 90 days as I bought this ipod on Ebay) Do I just send the whole thing in without really knowing what is wrong with it?
Has anyone had a similar problem? i successfully have connected both to the charger and itunes over the past few weeks though there were a couple of occasions where the ipod didn't get recognised by itunes.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Try these.
    iPod won't turn on.
    iPod battery doesn't charge.
Your Windows PC doesn't recognize the iPod is connected.
iPod shows only an Apple logo and doesn't start up.
When restoring the iPod, it's often useful to put it into disk mode first.

  • HELP! - New PC, Old iPod

I backed up all of my iTunes music from my old PC to a couple of DVD's. I missed all music beginning with "d" and "e". My iPod still has the music on it.
Re-imaged my old PC and bought another one. I want to reload the music from the DVD's to my new PC and I want to get the missing music off of my iPod and then resync all of them to get back to where I started.
New PC (iTunes) will not sync with old iPod because it thinks it is still synced with old PC.
How do I get the missing music off of iPod and get it syncing to new iTunes?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
    DF

"New PC (iTunes) will not sync with old iPod because it thinks it is still synced with old PC"
Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync.
