Help...Please Prevent Me From Smashing iPod With Hammer

My Nano crashes my computer everytime I connect it. What the ** is going on & how do I fix this issue???

Don't! The problem is not the iPod is the computer... but no need to smash it
Windows XP crashing means it's probably an USB driver problem. Can you use other USB devices? You may have to re-install the driver.
Another thing to check, does iTunes work? Do you see, in Task Manager, a bunch of processes installed along side iTunes: AppleMobileDeviceService, iPodService, iTunesHelper, mDNSResponder?
You have some diagnosing to do.

  • Help please! Can't sync ipod with itunes among other problems

I reset my ipod deleting all information on it. Whenever I turn it on with the button on the top left the apple is lighted for awhile and then the screen fades to black. This is all my ipod touch does. My itunes doesn't recognize my ipod touch either. I thought that once I reset the ipod it would easily sync with itunes and put all my music, videos, and apps on it. Help please.

    Hi,
Under your post is says that you are using a docking charger to sync it????? Try using the cord that came with the ipod.
Can you get into the ipod to use it or is that all it does.
If you have jailbroken your ipod, this could be the reason for the problem.
You could also try holding the home and top left (on/off) button at the same time and wait until the apple logo come up.
    I hope this helps.

  • Help Please! Syncing from my ipod touch

I've connected my ipod to my computer as per and it's synced all the purchases i've made on my ipod to my computer, but just at the end it gives an error message and lo and behold i've lost about 1000 songs. Not sure where, or which ones, but my numbers are down. My playlists have gone and there are now only 2 songs in the 'purchased on ipod' playlist when there should be about 100. The songs that are in my library now seem to be really outdated - i mean that it's only saying that i've played them a couple of times, when this is not the case. I have all the purchase histories for my music on itunes, so i suppose i can get these back from apple if neccessary, but thought i'd see if anyone was any the wiser first! And also was curious to know if anyone knew how to get in touch with apple...?
    Thanks!
    Amy

*I have all the purchase histories for my music on itunes, so i suppose i can get these back from apple if neccessary*
The policy on iTunes purchases is that (apart from Apps) you can only download them once and if they are lost you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
You could try contacting iTunes Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on this link you'll be able to email your query: Customer Service - iTunes Store Support
You could also see if this page helps locate anything that was previously on your computer that you can no longer find in your library: iTunes Music Store: Finding missing music and video downloads

    First thing to (un)check:
When you shutdown/restart, there's a dialog box which confirms your request. In that box is a little checkbox which you should uncheck.

    From another post by Philly_phan:
Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."

There's a new driver bundle for OSX 10.6 that you might need to install, the HP link seems to be failing at the moment but there's a version of it here: HP_Installer_Scanjet_v2.4.3_Ph4.dmg
There's a piece on the HP Forum about it here (some folks have problems installing ...)

  • Help please - itunes library empty after sync with iPod

    Please help if you can.
Plugged in iPod to charge, iTunes opened and said ipod associated with another library. I obviously took the wrong option as now all my music has gone, play lists, purchased music included. Music store still has correct account no though. Everything is on my ipod but nowhere else. If you know how I can get it back, I would be most grateful.

There is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward.

  • I need help in sync music from the ipod store that I have purchased to my ipod.

I need help syncing my music onto my ipod.  Anyone there to help?

There is a few events where I could see this happening...
It's possible if you computer is not authorized with your iTunes Store account it may not have transfered your purchases from the iPad to the computer. To check, Open iTunes> Select the "Store" menu along top of the program and select Authorize this computer. Sign in with your AppleID and password, this will make sure your computer is authorized for the future so you can transfer purchases from your device.

However, if your Movies are missing now you'll need to request to redownload or "regrant" them. Please send an email ticket into iTunes Store via...
    http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/
Select "Video Purchases" in the grey boxes, then "Lost or Missing Items", then click the link to "Email Us" on the right. Fill out that form and the folks at the iTunes Store should get back to you less than 24 hours.

A reboot wouldn't normally affect the library. Factory restore perhaps?

Thanks for the help from anyone out there....

Isn't all the music you put on the Nanos in your iTunes Library on your computer?

  • I need help getting my songs from my ipod to my computer

my computer recently crashed and most of my songs were from cds and i cant get them from my ipod on to my new computer i have no access to the old itunes is their anyway to get them bac on my new computer with out haveing to go cd by cd again

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. The transfer of content sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • MBP - Playing music from my Ipod with Front Row?

So that I don't clutter up my MBP HD with a bunch of mp3 files, I simply connect my ipod via its USB cable to my MBP when I want to listen to music.
However, when I click on Front Row, and select my albums to play, it doesnt show anything at all. It only wants to show items in the Library folder.
Is there a way to make Front Row play from my ipod or do I really have to have everything in the Library folder instead?
    Thanks

Anyone know how to import songs into library without
    copying files?
    Thks!
I'm not sure this is totally right but here it goes:
First make sure that your settings are for manual addition of songs for your ipod, otherwise when you get to "adding playlists" like I mention below, it will be a nightmare.
You need to have your mp3 files as DATA on your iPod - not just as the songs that regularly play nicely through the iPod. So enable data use, and have all of your songs on the iPod in data mode.
Then what you need to do is open all of your music files. Essentially what will happen is that your iTunes will add them automatically to your library as a LINK to the Data on your iPod. When your ipod is not connected, the files will not be playable and will have the ! next to them.
Place all of the songs (which are now really links) into appropriate play lists.
This, in my mind sounds like it works. All I remember is that when you have an MP3 on your desktop, and double click on it, it adds it to the library from the Desktop location.
MAKE SURE YOU HAVE "ADD A COPY OF MUSIC TO ITUNES FOLDER UNCHECKED" under advanced settings, or your music will be copied to your computer.
Good luck, I hope this works for you, it would seem that it does.

  • DEP preventing Itunes from automatic sync with ipod

I can't find anything about this anywhere so you might be able to help me!
I changed the podcast automatic sync settings on my ipod and for some inexplicable reaon, the ipod (160gb classic) started sncing manually with itunes. (i'm pretty sure i didn't touch the manual tick box!)
Everytime I unclick the manual snyc button on the ipod page, itunes shuts down and i get a message saying that data execution protection has prevented changes. I have attempted to change the DEP setting for itunes, but I get a message saying that i'm not authorised/ not safe to do so. i am logged in as an administrator.
Anyone have any idea what to do next!?!

I basically was unselecting "manually manage music and videos", ok-ed the standard do you really want to do that box and the itunes shut down.
Windows problems/solutions would then tell me about itunes not having enough DEP priviliges.
Unfortunately I'm not able to tell you what happens, as I have just tried it again to get the exact errors and it has worked beautifully!
no shutdowns, no problems. I haven't done anything differently.
Problem reports and solutions don't mention the DEP thing but say fault with stackhash_fd600.
Obviously posting on this forum in itself is enough to solve problems!

  • Help please-Hard drive is filling up with iPhoto videos made in iMovie

    Hello,
My 10 year old son has really taken a liking to home movie creation with this digital camera recording video clips. The regular digital camera that records video clips by default imports clips as .avi into iPhoto.
He then uses iMovie to find those clips in "iPhoto Videos" in iMovie. He then creates the movies and shares it to iTunes to put on his iPod Touch. Here lies the problem. He is filling up my hard drive! His user account iPhoto library is 65g and he does not have a tremendous amount of videos but when I reveal in finder to show the details of an iPhoto video it shows the folder (year and month) and I see other related folders that go along with this video. Although his videos are usually 5 minutes he speeds them up or slows them down with other effects and I think that is swelling the iPhoto Library with some of these folders being up to 2g each.
    What is the best workflow?
I tried putting his entire iPhoto library on an external but when running iMovie some the the project lost links to the associated events. Don't forget these events right now are stored in iPhoto because it is from a digital camera, not a camcorder.
    Option 1:
Is there a way to bypass the import of video into iPhoto? Each time the camera is connected it imports to iPhoto. If I got a card reader and we took the SD card out and then imported would iMovie take over or would iPhoto still import if video and stills are on same card?
    Option 2:
Import normally to iPhoto, then manually drag video clips to separate folder and 'import' them into iMovie as separate events. BUT then we have to remember to go back into iPhoto and delete those videos. That would put the video into iMovie and store it there and not into iPhoto. What a lot of work?
    Option 3:
Buy a small Kodak video web recorder and will iMovie take those in as videos?
I am assuming that storing these things in iPhoto, editing in iMovie, is creating this clutter. Please advise if this is the root of my problem. Why have these relatively short video clips consumed my iPhoto library? I think it is the effects, speed up movie ( he likes to make the voices sound like chipmunks and speed the songs up) that is creating addtional associated file in the iPhoto library.
I think it would be better to run independently in iMovie and not have all this associated with clips stored as iPhoto Videos?
I have 4 gigs left on my 250 gig HD.
    ANY help would be appreciated!!!

I think I just fixed mine.
Go to keychain access and select the crlcache.db keychain.  Right click and delete files and references.
Then click on keychain access -> Keychain First Aid and do a repair.
rinse lather repeat until the crlcache.db is gone from keychain.
