Help please Problem Raid K8N Diamond Plus

I have a PC with mather board K8N Diamond Plus 2HD maxtor 80gb (6V080E0) sata II. You can help me I am becoming crazy I must mistake in the bios or in the raid, I just do not succeed to install windows on 2 HD Sata II are compatibility problems?
Thank

Welcome!!
Firstly, may I suggest you give as much system information as possible, this will help us to assist!!
Second, I recently set up my RAID 0 and had an XP installation problem, but I believe mine was caused by my motherboard not liking the new 1.2BIOS.
As soon as I went back to the default (1.0) BIOS, no probs!

  • Raid & K8N Diamond Plus

I'm looking into a RAID setup for my system and would like to know whether it's worth the trouble or not. I'm not sure what benefits I could be expected to see, but right now I have a second hard-drive that I'm using only for backup storage.
Does it really speed up your load times significantly like I've heard a few people say?
Will it help your games stream better from the hard drive?
Will it get rid of most of those loading pauses in games (in particular, Oblivion?)
How much faster will it really make a system?
And lastly, how reliable is it? Are there any known bugs I need to watch out for?
I would be using two Western Digital Caviars, model# WDC WD2500KS & WDC WD2500YD--both 250GB, 16MB cache. 8.9 seek time.
    Thanks for any info.

The following is some performance description about raid 0 and raid 1, you could take it as a referrence.
    Raid 0:
Storage Efficiency: 100% if identical drives are used.
Fault Tolerance: None. Failure of any drive results in loss of all data, short of specialized data recovery.
Availability: Lowest of any RAID level. Lack of fault tolerance means no rapid recovery from failures. Failure of any drive results in array being lost and immediate downtime until array can be rebuilt and data restored from backup.
    Degradation and Rebuilding: Not applicable.
Random Read Performance: Very good; better if using larger stripe sizes if the controller supports independent reads to different disks in the array.
Random Write Performance: Very good; again, best if using a larger stripe size and a controller supporting independent writes.
Sequential Read Performance: Very good to excellent.
    Sequential Write Performance: Very good.
Special Considerations: Using a RAID 0 array without backing up any changes made to its data at least daily is a loud statement that that data is not important to you.
Recommended Uses: Non-critical data (or data that changes infrequently and is backed up regularly) requiring high speed, particularly write speed, and low cost of implementation. Audio and video streaming and editing; web servers; graphic design; high-end gaming or hobbyist systems; temporary or "scratch" disks on larger machines.
    Raid 1:
Storage Efficiency: 50% if drives of the same size are used, otherwise (Size of Smaller Drive / (Size of Smaller Drive + Size of Larger Drive) )
Fault Tolerance: Very good; duplexing even better.
Availability: Very good. Most RAID controllers, even low-end ones, will support hot sparing and automatic rebuilding of RAID 1 arrays.
Random Read Performance: Good. Better than a single drive but worse than many other RAID levels.
Random Write Performance: Good. Worse than a single drive, but better than many other RAID levels. :^)
Sequential Read Performance: Fair; about the same as a single drive.
Sequential Write Performance: Good; again, better than many other RAID levels.
Special Considerations: RAID 1 arrays are limited to the size of the drives used in the array. Multiple RAID 1 arrays can be set up if additional storage is required, but RAID 1+0 begins to look more attractive in that circumstance. Performance may be reduced if implemented using software instead of a hardware controller; duplexing may require software RAID and thus may show lower performance than mirroring.
Recommended Uses: Applications requiring high fault tolerance at a low cost, without heavy emphasis on large amounts of storage capacity or top performance. Especially useful in situations where the perception is that having a duplicated set of data is more secure than using parity. For this reason, RAID 1 is popular for accounting and other financial data. It is also commonly used for small database systems, enterprise servers, and for individual users requiring fault tolerance with a minimum of hassle and cost (since redundancy using parity generally requires more expensive hardware.)

  • HELP!, Does the K8N DIAMOND PLUS run winxp pro 64 bit?

My question is Im finding im getting a slight bottle neck while playing games like americas army. Im not sure if its my hypertransport settings or something like that but i am leaning towards it. If someone can give me the correct settings for this i would be greatly appreciated, or just give me the specs on your bio settings if you think they work. Thx in advance.

600 Watt  psu (sli capable), Nvidia driver version 91.37. I guess loading games there is a certain amount of lag time. Umm hangups when i walk into hallways hangups when people are shooting, hangups loading music, websites, things like this. I used to play the same game with nvidia 5900 ultra and old msi neo2 board and never got hangups. Also when i click on the nvidia control panel the screen flickers, every single time. I've tried numerous drivers and posted to Nvidia nothing from them. I dont know if thats normal or what. Im just (guessing) something in my bios settings are wrong. Like the Hyper Transport not matching or something.  The settings in the Hypertransport are.
(K8) to (NB) freq Auto = Enable
    (K8) to (Nb) linkwidth= 16up and 16down
    (NB) to (SB) freq=1000mhz

I really appreciate your time and effort, if you need any more info let me know.

  • K8n Diamond Plus network dropouts

hi there , i have recently built this system and since day one i have been having random LAN dropouts , i was wondering would a bios update fix this or would it be more of a windows / software problem ?? , when on the internet i will loose downloads randomly , on the other (nearest to sound jacks) one i am direct linked to my second system , when playing lan games on the two computers the k8n will have a connection dropout for approximately 1s every 2-30 minutes , the second system which is a socket a does not loose any connections if it is running the internet but the k8n will loose communication to the socket a every now and then

    hello there,
"by NIC do you mean the network adapter or the network bus enumerator?????"
Network Interface Controller (NIC, network adapter).
have you tested to use your secondary onboard NIC?
if you use NAM, remove/un install it. (NAM-->Nvidia Active Armor)
go to NIC advanced properties, and disable Checksum Offload, Low Power State Link speed, Segmentation Offload.
    re-test.
    what BIOS version you use?
BIOS versions(collection) can be found here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=96683.msg742311#new
good version are 1.33 and 3.0A

  • New K8N diamond plus questions please help.

Hi all well i am new to this msi site and am thinking of buying the new MSI K8N Diamond plus motherboard, the problem i have is that i have been a fan of ASUS and have had there last 3 SLI motherboards of which i have not been happy with.
Well i am totaly into overclocking and have an Opteron 165, balistix ram, 600w Enermax PSU, 2x Gainward 6800gt's,
what i am looking for is a motherboard that does what i says it will do, yes the asus a8n32 was a great motherboard but has a limitation on the voltage if useing the new E4-E6 stepping cores of which would only give a max voltage of 1.58v of which the asus spec said 1.76v.
What i am asking you chaps is is this a great motherboard, can you play with all the coms settings without any limitation, or do you think that the DFI motherboard is better.
If you can let me have some info on this motherboard that would be great, as i can not seam to get any reply from MSI about some information.
what i am looking for is what is the max CPU voltage and is there any limitation on it for some chips.
what is the max voltage for the ram
what is the max voltage for the chipset.
any help on this would be great.

Quote from: Stick on 23-February-06, 17:46:08
there is no mobo that alows 4V for the memory. i think the DFI goes up to 3.4V and you can use a DDR Booster to get to 3.8V. the only mobo that is capable to pass 3.3V is the DFI since you can have the choice to select from which rail the memory will be powered (the 3.3V or the 5V). you don't have that option in any other mobo.
Hi thanks for the mail but i have just copied this from msi about this motherboard, see below.
    1.Adjust CPU FSB Frequency:
You can adjust the desired "CPU FSB Frequency" by using "+,-" key. The default value of AMD Athlon™64 is 200MHz. The maximum value is 450MHz.
    2.AMD Overclocking Configuration (CPU Ratio):
If the CPU is Athlon™64 FX series, the ratio range is from 4 to 25.
If the CPU is Athlon™64 series, the ratio should be set according to its model number. For example, the ratio range of 3000+ is from 4 to 9, and the 3200+ is from 4 to 10.
    3.Adjust Extra CPU Voltage:
This is for adjusting CPU voltage while overclocking. Following the CPU default value, the maximum is 1.8V. The interval is 0.05V.
    4.Adjust DDR Memory frequency:
The Memclock is the major part which has four different frequencies to match many kinds overclocking memory modules. The memory frequency settings includes DRAM/FSB=1/2, 2/3, 5/6, 1/1.
    5.DDR Memory Voltage:
This is for adjusting memory voltage while overclocking. K8N Diamond Plus has a special design. We use jump to distinguish two level arrangement of voltage. In this way it can get maximum 4.1V for overclocking modules. As you can see the below pictures, the left one is the standard mode when jump hat is located at the top postion. The default value is 2.5V, and the maximum is 3.2V. The interval is 0.05V. As the right one, it is overclocking mode when jump hat is located at the under postion. The default value is 3.2V, and the maximum is 4.1V. The interval is 0.05V.
What i am asking is there any limitation on the cpu voltage like the asus a8n32 as this had a max voltage of 1.58v due to it having a limit put on it by recomendation of amd.

I know this board can reach 300+ by reviews by Tom's Hardware. But I was wondering how I could get my FSB up there? I can't seem to get past the hurtle at 270. Anything above this will make the system fail to start up and I have to clear the BIOS again.
I lowered the HT to the equivalent of 3X, and CPU Multiplier to 8X using a venice core 3500+. I even tried adding voltage to the HT. I'm wondering if I'm missing something in this equation that stops me from getting 300+ FSB? The overclockable items are too many and unexplained.
If someone could spread some light on what else needs to be done, please tell me.
    My system is as follows.
    MSI K8N Diamond Plus
    AMD64 3500+ Venice

    Hi dude,
I have the similar problem as well.  Sounds like you are in the bad shape, but yeah, try to loose your RAM settings.  First, all settings auto seem to be good, but it's actually not the case.  You have to set TRC and TRFC as higher than 12 and 14.  I am seeting those to be 14, 18, and it seems to be working great.  It will be better to set the burst length as 4 beats.  I don't like this board coz I can't set the drive length to be weak instead of normal detected by the Windows.  My system can post, but I got problems of playing 3D demos and games, which looks like it's the problem of motherboard.  Not mature enough.
    My rig:
    AMD Athlon64 3700+ @ 2.7GHz

  • K8N Diamond Plus SiI 3132 WinXP x64 non-RAID drivers?

    Hi
I'm looking for non-RAID drivers for the SiI 3132 on my K8N Diamond Plus for WinXP x64 (I managed to fine the x32 ones and they work fine so I know it's not the drives or the moboard.  I tried the drivers on MSI's website.
I've searched around the forum and followed the leads onto planetamd64 and the Asus website for them, but to no avail.
To be precise, I have selected non-RAID in the BIOS, and the drives to show up on on the POST screen, but do not appear in Win 64; there is the classic exclamation mark in the device manager for a 'Mass Storage Device'.  I don't want to concatenate the drives in RAID mode, so I did not try booting with that selected in the BIOS lest it destroy the stuff I have on them.
[I miss the simple JBOD option in the 3114...]
    Any help gratefully appreciated!
    thx
    bn

    Hi all,
    I solved the problem.
You won't find the drivers under the drivers section of SiI's website but you will in the Knowledge Base.  Look under Serial ATA | COntrollers | SiI3132, you'll find article 11043 'SATA 64 bit Windows IDE driver - released' dated 8/19/05.  Click under that and you'll find a file 3132_win64_idrv_1004_logo.zip.  It's what you need.
    Hope this helps someone.

  • 2 'problems' with the K8N Diamond Plus

    Hi there.
I just bought a K8N Diamond Plus and I'm having some troubles installing my system in conjunction to my Decklink Extreme PCI-E ( http://www.decklink.com/products/sd/ ).
    Here's my configuration:
    MSI K8N Diamond Plus
    AMD64 X2 4400+
    ROSEWILL 6600GT PCI-E VGA
    Decklink Extreme PCI-E
    2GB  RAM ( 2 x 1gb) Kingston
    OCZ-520 12U Modstream Power Supply
    plus 6 HD's (7200rpm) and 1 DVD-+RW
The problem is, when I try to initialize the system with the Decklink, which it's a PCI-E 1x, it just don't boot. Neither putting the Decklink on the 1x, nor in the 4x slot and nor in the 16x.
The Decklink is working just fine in another system and doesn't seem to be a problem with this card.
I wondered if there's any limitation in the K8N Diamond Plus with working with the ROSEWILL 6600GT PCI-E VGA plus the Decklink.
    =======================
The other thig is that when I take off the Decklink, the system boots normaly but a message appears while booting: "Not enough space to copy PCI option ROM 00:13:00".
And I don't have a clue about what's going on.
    =======================
Please enlighten me with this questions if possible.
    Thank you very much.
    Greets.
    Igor Bineli

Remove the battery away for 10 minutes, clear CMOS, start the system to load setup/optimized defauts in bios setup. After that, disable all onboard items in bios setup that you won't to use.  Save and exit.
Plug ROSEWILL 6600GT PCI-E VGA card,  and start your system to check if there is the error message. If there is, borrow another brand VGA card to do a test.
Besides, update your MB bios and driver version to the latest one.

  • K8N Diamond Plus boot problems

I just built a new computer and it was working fine for about a month.  Then one morning when I started it up it wouldn't turn on.  The front LED's turn on, and the fans all start, but nothing ever shows up on the screen.  The set of four lights on the back show  R R
                                                                                                    G G
Nothing has changed since the pc was working fine.  I haven't changed any bios settings or added any hardware or software.  I did try resetting the bios using the CMOS jumper, but this didn't change anything.  The lights on the back show that it is initializing ide drivers, but in the manual it also shows that it is one of the last steps in the start-up process, so i would think that the memory check, processor count, msi logo ect. should appear on the screen like it normally does.  However, the LED that blinks when the hard drive is active never lights up, but when i open the case and feel the hard drive i can feel it vibrating like it is functioning properly.  And if it is a hardrive failure, then shouldn't the bios still start up and show up on the monitor?  I have heard that many weird problems can be attributed to the psu, but I have a 500w Antec Smartpower 2.0, which is a pretty reliable psu from what i've heard.  Any help or suggestions would be welcome.  Also, how would i test individual components to find out what is causing the problem?  I think since everything is within a couple of months old i should be able to get replacements.   Thanks in advance for any help.

You guys are awesome!  Thanks a bunch for the info on ram, I feel like I understand it better and I looked and found all the stuff in the bios that you guys were talking about.  I'm downloading speedfan currently and will go install it on my other computer.  I tried swapping the sticks of memory, but i ran into the same problem i did before.  So i'm assuming that i can safely say one stick is faulty right?  And do any of you guys have any experience trying to get replacement memory from crucial?  I'll have to go poke around their website also.  Well, thank you all so much for all of your help.  This is my first home built pc and i'm trying to learn alot about them.  Once everything is running properly i may try a little overclocking, but i'd like to get everything running smoothly first.  Just out of curiosity, what would make a stick of ram go bad like that?  It was only a month old, and i thought crucial xms was pretty good ram.  Is it not? or did i just get unlucky?
Thanks a ton for all the answers, this forum is the most helpful one i've ever seen.  thanks!
Maybe that you're unlucky to get those faulty RAM. Crucial RAM is not bad if you get the better performance if you're ocing your PC if or else get the value RAM if you don't oced.

What does it mean if it has a short...
There is a 12 Vatx Connecter on my motherboard with 8 pin, but on my power supply theres only four, i've connected it anyway, and it fits in, on the half of the connector.
    Could that be the problem?
I use the same type of connectors, no need for converters.
I too have only 4 pins out of the 8 on the board connected, no problem at all....
    And yes I do overclock
    But big chance it's the PSU that can't cope, it has only 14A @ 12V1 & 18A @ 12V....not very much for a 500W....
Also, try to boot with just 1 stick of memory in slot 1.

  • K8N Diamond Plus Power on problem

I have this problem with the board where I shut down windows, and it does shut down by the way. But the strange thing is that right after it powers down, like say a second, it restarts itself as if I pressed the power button immediately after. Though I can correct this by pressing power again while it is still going through the motherboard check ups, I was wondering if someone had similar problems. If so, if there is a solution to correct this bug?
I am currently using the 1.16 version patch.

    CPU=Opteron 170
    Motherboard=MSI K8N Diamond Plus
    Videocard=Sapphire X800GTO2

    1x 120mm intake fan
    1x Vortex 2 Intake crossblower

    1x Antec Vcool Intake
I'll check on that wake lan thing.

  • I need help DDR voltage and latencies (K8N Diamond Plus)

I noticed my DDR voltage was incorrect in the bios and I don't know what "Auto" is doing with my timings. I have 2GB of Corsair TWINX2048-3200C2 DDR400 Memory installed on DIMM1 and DIMM2 of my K8N Diamond Plus board.
So far I've made the following changes (as my RAM's specs indicate) in the BIOS but I'm new to this (first build).
    DDR Voltage 2.75V
    CAS  2.0
    tRCD 3
    tRP   3
    tRAS 6
I left everything else at it's default setting. Are there any other changes I should make?

I'm having an issue with the 1.10 BIOS that is preventing me from manualy setting the timings...The problem I'm having right now is deciding what BIOS to install and where to download it. Perhaps you could help me with that?
With pleasure!  I had the same problem with the v1.10 BIOS, as did another member here.  I flashed BACK to the v1.0 BIOS (make sure to use the command line switched (just run the batch file)) and was able to set timings, and then I flashed directly to the 3.0A BIOS and was able to adjust timings still.  See my old thread here.
For my success (I don't know if any or all of these influenced it, but I'm just happy it works) in flashing I did the following:
Download the 1.0 (original) and 3.0A (latest "official") BIOS images from MSI's support site.
Downloaded the DrDos BIOS flash bootable ISO CD image from bootdisk.com
Used my ISO software to add the BIOS image files onto the ISO image.
    Burned the ISO to CD.
    Booted from the CD
    Flashed to 1.0
Cut Power (flipped PSU switch in back), held down the CMOS reset switch button on the mobo and the power button for 45 seconds.
Powered up, set "Optimized Defaults" and set memory voltage to 2.75v and rebooted.
Set all "normal" BIOS parameters (boot devices, et al).
Windows (x64) loaded with no issues, Everest reported timings appropriately
Did the same procedure for the 3.0A BIOS, with similar success.
You can see my post or click on the link in my sig for detailed memory reports.

Are you running just one set of TWINX2048-3200C2's?
Just one pair.  I fiddled with the CR and the only result was with the single known good DIMM my latency got slightly slower (like a 5ns drop), but still no love with 2 DIMMS.  I think it is just dead.  But this is not my story (at least not in this thread)...this is memticvirus's story.

  • K8N DIamond Plus- 4 sticks of memory problem

I have a new Opteron 180 with a K8N Diamond plus mb. I am thinking about getting another 2g of memory to run with my current 2g of 3200 memory to speed up Vista even more.  I thought the new chips could run 4 sticks of memory at 400 with a command rate of 2t.  I wanted to try to see if it would work so I pulled two 512 pc3200 sticks from my wifes computer and installed it. At boot up it clocked the memory to 333 (which I expected it to actually) and I got into the bios and set it to 400 with 2t command rate and everything else at default settings.  All the memory is Kingston value ram.  The computer randomly booted and I had lockups at 400, but at 333 it ran fine, but I still couldn't run the memory at 1t with 333.  I am using bios 1.33 as the other bios's always set the HT bus wrong for me. Is this just a function of the motherboard or is the memory not compatable with each other? I thought the motherboard is irrevelant since the memory controller is on the cpu?
    Thanks for your help,
    Scott

The memorycontroller IS inside the CPU.
And some are lucky to get it stable booting at DDR400 with 4 sticks, some get crashes.
However, most have drop-backs to DDR333.
It's a CPU limitation when using unbuffered memory.
Buffered memory should be able to do it, however, I'm not quite sure as this is an S939 type CPU.
You could try something if you know somebody that has buffered memory.
Sometimes it helps if you lower the other timings.

  • K8N DIAMOND PLUS RAID 0+1 Question

I have K8N Diamond Plus due tomorrow as the base for the new system I am building.  In addition I have 4 Western Digital 320GB SATA drives with 16MB buffers on the way to serve as my storage.  My question is this, I would like to set the drives up in a bootable RAID 0+1 array.  In fact I would like to have the ability to multi-boot from the array.  Is this possible?  If so, it would be greatly appreciated to hear recommendations on partioning the array.  I would like to dual boot for sure and possibly add a third OS.
    Thank you in advance,

like syar said, it will show up just as one harddrive on your machine. that means that you can do with it whatever you are able to do with 1 harddrive: partition, multi-boot etc. since this is your first 0+1 array, i wish you good luck. you're gonna have fun with it, i know i did with my first array (took me 4 hours to figure out what's what, but hey, there wasn't any MSI forum at that time  )
