Help! PLEASE read this post!!! Don't know what to do next?
Hi. When I'm asked to select a destination volume to intall the Mac OSX software, there is NO visible Hard Drive icon to select. I don't know what to do from this point??
But, let me back up a little... I stepped away from using my computer this morning and about an hour later started to hear an odd "repetitive motored clicking sound" coming from my home office. When I satiated my curiosity, I discovered the unknown noise coming from my G4 tower. Uh oh!?! Not good. When I went to use the mouse, everything was frozen. So I tried to manually reboot my computer. Not only did the odd noise not go away, but I was greeted by that wonderful "flashing file with the question mark" in the middle of a solid grey background on my monitor. I tried doing a soft boot while holding down the shift key, but NOTHING? I tried disconnecting the ethernet cable...NOTHING? Finally I tried inserting the Mac OSX Panther version 10.3 Install Disc while holding down the C key and opened the disc utility to try repairing the hard drive, but there is no visible Hard Drive icon on the left where there should be... shouldn't it be there?? Plus, when the install disc asks me to "Select a destination volume to install the Mac OSX software" there is nothing for me to chooses from. Shouldn't there be an icon of my Hard Drive here for me to choose? If this question has been asked before, please post the link if you know where to find it.
I don't want to reinstall the OSX if I absolutely don't have to. I just want that annoying clicking motor sound to go away and my computer back to normal working order.

Thanks for all the help roam!! You hear about hard drives crashing, but you never think it will happen to you, until it's too late. Unfortunately, that happened to me today... but, I bought an external hard drive a few months back and had backed up the majority of my important files at that time (THANK GOD!!). I had a ton of music on my iTunes, photos in my iPhoto, and TONS of favorite bookmarks organized in my Safari that I'm pretty sure were not backed up on my external harddrive (but at least all my graphic design files were saved on my external). I think I'll chalk this one up to the lesser of two evils and count my blessings. It could've been much worse than it is. Thanks again though for your assistance.

My MBP didn't recognise my password, started it in safe mode, I can see my files, but I don't know what to do next, as the image of reset password isn't selectable. I just moved from PC. Need help please...
Safe mode is not what you want in this case. Reboot to recovery mode - hold down cmd-R as the Mac reboots. Go past the language-selection screen, click the Utilities menu, then Terminal. Type:
resetpassword
Followed by the return key, and follow the prompts. Reboot normally when done.

I recently upgraded to the newest version of iPhoto. I used to have version 7, I believe. Now that I have updated I can no longer see my pictures. I downloaded the upgrader but I don't know what to do next. Please help!
Go to your Applications/ Utilities folder. Finder the upgrader app. Double click it to run it.

I have a laptop using OSX 10.5.8, iTunes v. 10.6.3 and Quicktime 7.7. iTunes will not open. It says it requires QuickTime 7.5.5 or later. I've tried reinstalling each of them. No success. Don't know what to try next.

Open Application > Utilities > System Profiler and check the Quicktime version in Frameworks vs. the version in Applications. One person had re-installed their operating system. It had kept the newer Player application but had reverted to an earlier version of the underlying support framework files which many applications utilize. Re-installing Quicktime 7.7 took care of the problem. Do this manually, not with Software Update.

In Mail I suggest you try 'View->Message->Plain text alternative'.
Why? In multipart/alternative messages, such as this, the text/plain version should precede the text/html version, but Toyota have swapped them around. By default mail clients display the second version, assuming it to be HTML.

I de-authorized ALL, but when I plug my ipad in and try to back it up, Itunes tells me that my account has been used on too many computers. This is the only apple device that does that. I have several (phones, touch, etc). Because of this I tunes tells me that I will loose all content on the I pad as well as apps. Why is this happening. Apple has some of the least helpful tech support of any computer oriented company I have ever used. Why I should have to pay for this poor service, I am uncertain. I seems like I can just upgrade the OS to 7 but I would rather not loose the content or have to write eveything down that is on it now just to reload it all after. Maybe I am reading this all wrong. Please let me know.
Not it. Thanks. I tried it, so thanks for the tip, but I get the same error message. That I need to authorize this computer to get the purchases. I guess it's not really an error message. But It will not let me proceed any further. Once again I have deauthorized and this is the only computer that is authorized for this account.

I have Windows XP 2002, Service Pack 3, 64 processor (whatever that means).
I don't understand this 64- or 32-bit stuff. I have Internet Explorer 8 installed, and it seems to say "128-bit". Am I completely incorrect about that?? Probably!
Let me also say that I just had my computer cleaned up from some virus problems. A tech guy came and did it.
I was only running a free AVG virus thing, but am planning to put on Norton.
Reading these posts makes me think I'm way in over my head on something that I used to think was 'simple.'

Here are my answers, as best I know how to present them:
1. I can see a big red "f". It's not flashing or moving or anything. Does that count as animation?
There is also an empty box with an X in the corner, as if a pop-up is blocked, or something.
2. I see 2 things under Adobe, called Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper and Adobe PDF Link Helper, both enabled.
3. I see Flash10m.ocx; FlashUtil10m_ActiveX; Get Flash; swflash; FlashInstall; FlashUtil10m_ActiveX.dll; and install.
(#2 and #3 took me to places I'd never been before. ha ha) -

My iMac won't boot. I have tried putting my DiskWarrior DVD in and starting the computer holding the "c" key down wihile it is powering up. The DVD started to make encouraging sounds like it was trying to boot from it. Then a grey circle comes on the screen and there is a sound of the DVD attempting to read and failing. Now the DVD is stuck in my computer and I can't get it out.

Guys I need help please read this and try to understand it
I want to know that what does a new driver has to do with modem that it makes noises like "click click" during the gameplay...
Right now i am using the old version that came with the box.It is 43.45 that has been released almost an year ago.Believe me guys it works almost perfect no noise and nothing.
If i come into 2004 then the latest version is 56.72 .I've heard that nVidia has uploaded this driver on april 1st (Happy fool day from nVidia). Thus guys i wish to come into this new year and i want to update my driver,and when i install this driver it will give me trouble from the modem. Couple of more things i have checked and they're the driver that came with the box is by DETONATOR and these days the drivers says FORCEWARE and the second thing is that the old software that comes in CD from nVidia doesnt contain "DIGITAL VIBRANCE" but all new drivers has it. Could this problem is from here? I am totally puzzled first i thought that there is something wrong with the graphic card but when i checked it was modem.When i changed the modem same problem.I changed the slot, same thing. Thought there is a virus or spyware but there was not.Hardware is ok because old version is working fine.

One more thing i want to mention
if i turn on pc and start playing games(any 3D games) will run perfect on any driver whether it is new or oldest. But if i connect to internet with modem and later disconnect it and then start playing games or any 3D presentation the modem starts crying (CLICK CLICK) and this is the same sound that comes when we start connecting(dialing, probably when it gives signal) the internet.
In this situation i have to completely turn off my pc and also unplugging it (DISCHARGING ELECTRICITY). and then, when i turn on the pc and start any game without connecting to internet everything runs fine (On the new drivers)....
Now as i have mentioned before i changed the slots removed and even reinstalled.Nothing happens just a click click sound.
but for the old driver everything runs fine even if i am online and watching 3D presentations or playing games....
So anybody ????????????????????????assuming its a pci one as he suggests it may well be an irq thing

You should be syncing at about 4 Meg. The reason you are not is that the DLM system has put you on a banded profile in response to past errors on your line, the lowest of these Banded Profiles, altho' you now have no significant errors. You need to call EE to reset the DLM in order to remove any banding. However should significant errors persist the DLM will reapply banding. -

I found the following steps to recover a deleted library. Not sure who the author is but it worked for me.
Start with the iPod disconnected from the computer - DON'T CONNECT IPOD YET
- open iTunes
- open iTunes Preferences - this blocks iTunes from seeing an iPod connection; leave the preferences window up and running
- connect the iPod to the computer, wait about 15 seconds before continuing
- open 'My Computer'
- Tools menu, Folder Options, View tab, enable 'show hidden files /folders'
- open iPod icon in My Computer
- open iPod_Control folder
- you should see a folder named Music
- drag this folder to somewhere on your computer hard drive
- after the copy completes, right-click the new Music folder on your hard drive and select 'Properties'
- clear the checkmark next to 'Hidden'
- Close that explorer window
- eject iPod from System tray "Safely Remove Hardware" icon. This icon looks like a small gray rectangle with a green arrow floating above it. It's only there when a removable device (like the iPod in this case) is attached to the computer. Right-click & select 'Safely remove..', then click 'Stop' in the next window, OK in the next window, and then Close to complete the ejection.
- disconnect the iPod from the computer
- go back to iTunes, cancel the preferences window
- File menu \ Add folder to Library \ find that Music folder copied over from the iPod
Your iTunes library should be back in action! But wait - there's more!!
