I have a mac OS X and tried to set up boot camp today so i could also run windows on my mac. I installed windows xp sucsessfully but when i came to install service pack 2 it says there isn't enough memory to instal it. When chosing the memory at the partition set up i musn't have selected enough memory. I try to insert the mac instillation disk but it says it can't continue untill windows has been updated (which will be service pack 2) this means the option to
choose mac has not installed and i am stuck in windows i can't find a way out. Please Help!!

Help please with wrangling Windows 7 fonts

This may seem off-topic, but I'm hoping the practical expertise of posters here in working with fonts might provide some insight. I've posted in Windows-centric forums, but most general users seem not to understand font issues, so couldn't respond. Any help would be appreciated.
So. I have two questions, please:
1) My version of Windows 7 (Australian) comes bundled with other fonts included on a "regional" basis, including dozens of Asian languages. Congrats to Microsoft for making these available, but they're not optional; they're installed in the Windows\Fonts folder, and marked as system files, so if they're moved to another location (with the intention of handling them with a Font Manager and making them available on-call) the system just restores them in the folder at the next reboot. In the meantime, they clog the installed fonts list — most of them, uselessly, for any individual user. Is there any way of bringing these under control?

2) My copy of Windows 7 does a kind of autofill on fonts, where missing glyphs are filled in with glyphs generated by the system, that appear in the Font Display and Font Properties windows, but also appear in my Font Manager's cascaded display. It makes it much harder to choose fonts that have the glyphs I need, even though the match in the display is often not a very good one — it's often not hard to spot, but it makes the process of choosing much more laborious. And strangely, it doesn't happen for every font, but I've been unable to find what determines whether the system substitutes fonts or leaves the glyph spaces blank. And I haven't been able to find any documentation or mention of this behaviour, let alone any way to modify it or switch it off. I'm surprised that I haven't even seen it mention in discussions. Can anyone help with suggestions or insight on this please? Ideally, how do I switch this off?

In terms of fonts that Windows 7 installs in its C:\Windows\Fonts directory, you delete, move, or manage those at your own risk. Some are required by Windows itself and others are assumed to be available by applications from Microsoft and others. Be careful.
You should also be aware that many system vendors install their own “added value software” on new systems in addition to Windows itself. (Some would designate some of this dubious “added value software” as shovelware.) Such software may also install fonts. Personally, I've seen some such software add upwards of 50 to 100 mediocre typefaces to the system. All such fonts are certainly deletable assuming you either delete the shovelware, don't use it, or at least don't use the funtionality that calls upon such fonts.
In terms of what you describe as autofill on fonts, Windows and various Windows applications do have a function by which any “missing glyphs” in a font are filled by comparable glyphs from some other system font per configuration in the Windows registry. You actually see this using the Character Map utility where it appears that all fonts have all glyphs (or at least all TrueType fonts have all glyphs).
The good news is that within Adobe applications, such autofill as you describe it does not occur. You get the pink box. To see what glyphs are actually defined in a font, you should look at the glyphs panel for the font in question. Only the glyphs actually defined in the chosen font will appear.

Were you installing XP? Is there an XP install disk in the DVD/CD drive? Was the machine working before? Do you see the hard drive light flashing a lot or is it not flashing?

Help Please with my Windows 7 PC

I followed all the instructions upon setting up ITunes account and cloud BUT once installed my computer no longer started up properly. It now takes a very long time to come up. I installed all the Apple software but that did not resolve the problem I have now. I have spent the entire afternoon and evening trying to resolve this problem but to no avail. Can someone help me please. I even did a system restore to a date prior to installation, but that did not help

Help! - stuck in Windows partition!

I tried to install a Windows partition on a brand new iMac using Boot Camp and Windows 7. Windows 7 installed OK, but the next step, namely the installation of Windows support software, including I assume Boot Camp itself, simply hasn't happened. I am now stuck in a small Windows partition of a 3TB hard disk with no apparent way out - I've already tried powering down and then up.
Suggestions?

The Windows support software should be downloaded before installing Windows, and it's installed after installing Windows.
To start up in OS X, hold the Option (Alt) key while your iMac is starting up until you see all bootable devices on the display. Select Macintosh HD, and if you want to start up always in OS X, open System Preferences > Startup Disk, and choose Macintosh HD.
Open Boot Camp Assistant (in /Applications/Utilities), mark the box to download the Windows support software and follow the steps. When it has finished, restart, hold the Option (Alt) key while your iMac is starting, choose your Windows partition and install the Windows support software

Help please: Refreshing a window

I would like to refresh a window so I have

It compiles but does not work, I have to do this:

That compiles and works, but the opening and closing of "My folder" is obvious to the user.
How could I improve that?

The man page you want is "/usr/local/bin/wsupdate" if you don't specify a file then the finder windows should be updated. Here is a example of using this shell command.

The brand of TV makes a difference sometmes... older Philips TVs in particular are fussy and have their own setup in the control panels (cannot recall where, this is from a thread from last ... Oct? I think I can find it if you need the info).
There is an "Order of Events" that needs to be followed; it is more important sometimes than others.
If the issue is a "simple one", then this may help as a "Check List":

Reprint of an earlier post - something here may work:
NOTE: If this does work, the "Hard Reset" rule applies - it should "stick", that is, you shouldn't have to do it this way each time - it's just a matter of getting it set up.
Order of Events - A "Hard Reset" of the HDMI Audio Setup:
Enable Digital Audio (S/PDIF)
Connect HDMI from computer toTV’s HDMI/DVI input port
Set your TV input to HDMI/DVI input. (You won’t have sound yet.)
Turn of the TV. Shut down the computer.
Boot the computer - wait for it to boot all the way. Log in.
Sound should be "dead" - no system sounds at this point.
All the audio should be going through the HDMI port.
If not, and you are getting sound, try setting "Digital Audio" setting (if you have it) as an option, [quote] "although this should not be necessary."
Remove any headphones and any other non-HDMI output from computer and Reboot.
If you get sound, it's still not ready - play with the sound output.
When you get it to the point where the sound is "dead" (while the HDMI port is still connected) after you reboot, you are ready.
Turn on the TV.
Check for Sound through the HDMI port. Should be working.

Urgent help please: stuck on apple loading screen

I really need some help. I turned off my ipod touch 4th gen and turned it back on, and now it wont get past the apple loading screen. Ive been on this forum for over an hour, reading articles and nothings working. Ive tried holding down sleep/home and the apple logo just reappears, my computers not recognising it at all!
What can I do? Never had a problem with it before

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

DEP Print Crash (Reader 9.3.2) - Help please?

Help please anyone?
Window DEP (Deta Execution Protection) stops me printing pdfs and the print crashes.
If I tick/check DEP to allow me to use Reader 9 that makes NO difference even though it says if should.
I'm using Reader 9.3.2 - not an earlier version - and the print crash happens either in Reader, using it alone, or when I open a pdf in IE or Firefox.
I am running XP SP3, recently updated from SP2 (there maybe a connecton - was it the XP3 update which did it?)
This is very frustrating. I don't want to abandon Adobe Reader and use a different company's program but I have wasted hours so far tring to find a fix for this.
Incidentally fiddling with Javascript [Reader>Edit>Preferences>Untick Enable Acrobat JavaScript] which is one recommended fix whichdoesn't work.
Maybe there any other files I can get DEP to ignore? (NB they all have to be .exe files so be sure to tell me where to find them!)

All I know is that I can't print from Adobe Reader any more but I can print pdfs since I replaced it with Foxit Reader.
I suspect this is maybe connected with my XP upgrade from SP2 to SP3.
I knew it might mess things up and this happened soon after. I also can't print AT ALL from Firefox now and that happened at the same time too.
Microsoft again....? Who knows. I have solved my pdf printing problem a roundabout way, but not my Firefox problem - tho that isn't for this forum!

Doing a search on Google revealed this:
if you ever edited your hosts file ...change it back. basically do the reverse of this to about step 5:

Scanning directly to PDF on Windows 7 - HELP PLEASE !

I recently purchased an HP Probook 4540s that runs Windows 7 Professional and then learned that my HP Laser Jet 3052 all-in-one, that had beautifully scanned documents directly to PDF files when hooked-up to my old laptop that ran Windows XP Professional, doesn't scan directly to PDF. I'm told (but don't know for myself) that's because HP doesn't have a scanning driver for Windows 7 and Microsoft's drivers don't scan to PDF What can I do to have my 3052 scan PDF directly to my 4540s? I'm I stuck with having to buy a new scanner and, if so, which one(s) will scan directly to PDF on Windows 7 with an automatic feeder? Of course I can scan to TIFF and then convert to PDF, but what a hassle and the product is so much less sharp. Help, please!

As I'm sure you are aware you've asked in an Adobe hosted forum for Acrobat not a generic Q&A area like Yahoo Answers.
With that in mind --
Purchase and install Acrobat XI (Standard or Pro).
Visit the HP site to obtain/install the latest greatest drivers for the scanner.
If there's an appropriate TWAIN driver Acrobat will be able to "talk" to the scanner to facilitate creationg of PDF from the scanner's output image(s).
If not then use the scanner's software to output scanned images of textual content to TIFF.
Then use Acrobat to create PDF from the TIFF files.
Alternatively you may want to give a look-see to Adobe's online subscription services.

hours after the first post i somehow got this to work. dont know how, but i do tried the dns clear cache, the clear host file, oh and i did the check automatically detech dns AND THEN se-check it again before i got this to work.

The pdf is loading as html code. If you save it, it will download as :

Change the extension to .pdf
