Help Please? Sync my sons iPad with my Mac (not my Wife's Macbook)

Our child has an iPad 1. My wife has a Macbook Pro and her own iTunes account. The iPad is linked to the Macbook and she has purchased dozens of Apps for our boy. She is the worlds worst computer user and syncing and keeping the iPad updated is a nightmare.
To overcome this I wish to take over the syncing of the iPad etc, I would like to connect the iPad to my Mac but I am concerned about the iTunes accounts!
How could I ensure all the Apps come across? will they merge into my iTunes account?
Or will I have to run her iTunes account on my Mac too?
She prefers that I dont have access to her music etc which she uses for work and doesnt fancy me inadvertently deleting something etc.
Has anyone got a step by step guide how to achieve this?

You cannot merge iTunes accounts.
Yes, you would have to maintain her iTunes library on your Mac in order to keep everything that she has installed and downloaded for your child.
You do not have to keep her music on your Mac, if none of that music is on your child's iPad. Transferring your child's iPad contents to your computer would have no effect on what your wife has and maintains on her Mac.
You will have to transfer all of the iPad contents into an iTunes library on your Mac and at this point, you would need to use another iTunes library or set up another user account for the child's iTunes library, because you cannot merge content from one Apple ID into another one.
You must make the new iTunes library the child's syncing library now as well. If you set up an empty iTunes library and sync to that library, everything will be erased from the iPad.
Read both of these before you do anything.

  • Is it better to update the ipad with a mac mini vs a windows PC?

I have an iPad 2 which i want to update to iOS 6.1.3 (from 4.3.3). I usually sync it with a mac mini running Snow Leopard 10.6.4 with iTunes 10 which will not allow me to update the iPad as iTunes 11 requires OS X 10.6.8. I am not in a position to update my mac mini.
    1) Can I use a PC running windows 7 with latest iTunes to update my iPad without any problems ?
    2) Will I be able to sync my updated iPad with my mac mini running iTunes 10 on OS X 10.6.4 ?
    Thanks for your inputs.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.

Lost all my contacts in Mac address book.  Tried syncing my iPhone/iPad contacts to Mac via iTunes and is not working.  Please help

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Unless you have the contacts backed up somewhere, you won't be able to restore them.
You and your son should have your own iCloud accounts then you can keep your own contacts and calendars etc and avoid deleting each others.

  • Sync numbers for ipad with mac

Hey I just got an ipad 2 and the numbers app.  I need to keep my databases in sync..ie updates on ipad should sync with mac and visa versa, please give me some advice on how this can best be achieved?
    Chris

The only way I have found so far is:
Syncing from the Mac to iPad - you need to ADD the file to the iTunes file list, under File Sharing, for the appropriate App. This applies every time the file is changed on the Mac. If the file already exists on iTunes you will need to accept the overwrite option for the updated file. Next remove the file from the iPad and import the file again over WiFi from the Mac.
Syncing from the iPad to the Mac - highlight the file to be in sync [ for Pages and Numbers the file in the centre of the screen under My Documents ] and select the Transfer icon. Then select the option Transfer to iTunes. In iTunes you then need to select the file and click on the Save To button and then select where the updated file is to be saved.
The problem with transferring documents to the iPad etc. is that it needs to be attached to the Mac in order that the list of Apps and Documents that allow File Sharing can be seen. Strangely the only way to transfer files back and forth is via WiFi - not USB. Stupid really. Apple needs to sort this out as the current arrangement is rather amateurish.

  • I can't sync my 2nd generation iPad with my Mac. It says that the sync could not start

I tried syncing my iPad with my Mac and once it starts to sync a message pops up saying that my iPad couldn't be synced because the sync session failed to start.
    Help!

I can't thinl what may be causing this, are you attempting to set up your Email through Settings? That would be the way to go if you aren't.
If they didn't work, or you are already trying to do so, then download the "Yahoo Mail" App from the App Store and use that, I know it's annoying but thats what you may have to do.
Hope I was of assistance :-)

" how can I sync my iphone to my mac book without losing all the music and pictures on it?"
You cannot.  Copy everything you want form the old computer to the new one, then sync it.
it basically says you have to erase your iphone to sync to a new itunes!
Correct Iphone will sync, or manually manage, with one and only one computer/library at a time. Syncing, or manually managing, to another will indeed erase the current content.

My guess is that you previously synced the iPhone with a different computer in the past. You will probably want to set up Home Sharing.

  • Hi there - do you know if I will be able to sync a new ipad with ios5 with a backup from my now defunct ipad2 ios 4.3.3 ?

Hi there - do you know if I will be able to sync a new ipad with ios5 (or even an ipad 3 if it ever gets released !) with a backup from my now defunct ipad2 ios 4.3.3 ?
    Thanks

You will be able to restore from the backup of the old iPad and then sync all of the other content but you may need to update a bunch of apps in order for them to work with iOS 5 - but yes - you can use that backup.

  • I have sync'ed my ipad with my new mac book air, but some of the images did not download!

I have sync'ed my ipad with my new mac book air, but some of the images did not download to the computer.
    I need these pictures!
Iphoto does not see these images.  How can I download them into my computer?
I have tried using a PC to view the iPad as a HD, but it also does not find the images... yet I can visualize them!!!  I need to make sure I do not lose these pictures!!!!  How can I get them into my new computer?

In iOS 7 you cannot transfer photos and videos anymore to or from your iPad as if it were a USB device.
You must sync them using iTunes:

You can add your iCloud account to his iPad as a secondary account to his primary account (settings > mail, contacts, calendars) and enable just contacts and calendars.

One of you will need to migrate to a separate iCloud account, then you can delete the other person's data from each account.
To migrate to a new account, start by saving an photo stream photos that are not in your camera roll to your camera roll.  To do this, open your my photo stream album, tap Select, tap the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward pointing errow), then tap Save to Camera Roll.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, choose Keep on My iPhone when prompted, provide the account password to turn off Find My iPhone when prompted, then sign in with a different Apple ID to create the new account and choose Merge to upload your data.
You can then each to to your iCloud accounts on icloud.com from your computer and delete the other person's data from your account.

Can I sync my new iPad with my iTunes from the cloud?

Sync what sort of content ? You should be able to keep contacts and bookmarks between the two, but you can't directly copy music or films/tv shows between them - you will either need to sync those via your computer's iTunes, or if they are iTunes purchases and you are in a country where they can be redownloaded then they might show in the Purchased tab in the iTunes store app on your iPad

  • HELP PLEASE!  I am working with GH4 4k footage in adobe preimere and the computer keeps freezing... any ideas?

HELP PLEASE!  I am working with GH4 4k footage in adobe preimere and the computer keeps freezing... any ideas?

Thanks for your response.  I'm sorry for the lack of details, but posting a question on this forum is completly new to me, so I guess I am learning how it works.
I have to be honest, I am a novice to video editing, but I am here to learn so I will provide all the info I know and please let me know if it is enough...
I filmed my first feature film on a Panasonic GH4. We filmed in 4k (compressed files).  I am about 900 GB of total files for all the footage.  I am currently editing on a 17' Toshiba Satellite i7 with 750 GB of space and I believe 8 gb of ram.  All of the footage for the film is not on the computer, but stored on a 1 TB external hardrive (Rugged Lacie is the name of the hard drive).  I am using a usb 3.0 from the hard drive to the computer.
I actually was able to get through about 17 mins of edits for the film before I started to experiencing the computer completely freezing up on me.  I tried using a different hard drive, and same issue.  A friend mentioned it might just be the computer is not powerful enough to edit all the footage, but he wasn't for sure considering the computer is less than a year old and is on the higher end for a toshiba.
I am requesting advice on how to continue editing the film without the computer crashing if that is even possible with using the same computer.  If not what would be my options?
    Thank you!
