Help please WD 2TB My Book not working in Seatay HDD dock (plugged in 19v laptop in WD drive!)

Hi All, I accidently plugged in my laptop power to my WD 2TB drive and then it stopped working. A friend suggested that I take off the casing and then buy a HDD docking station. I bought one from Ebay and it works okay as i can see the power light on etc however when I insert my drive into the slots it doesnt do anything , no whirs, no clicks, nothing. There should not be any damage to the contents of the drive but I dont understand why the drive does not register with this HDD docking station? If anyone can help me that would be great Nicole

Hi, Thank you for the post. Yes I have tried the drive on 2 computers now, 1 with Windows and 1 Mac which is the main one I use. The drive doesnt show on disk utility or my under disk management. I'm really at a loss what to do now. I've been reading that a lot of HDD Docking Stations do not recognise WD drives! Is that true? Thanks

HELP PLEASE!!! Macbook not working AT ALL

So this afternoon I updated all the software on my Macbook. After updating, I chose to restart my machine - which took FOREVER and I ended up doing a hard reset. This resulted in a message having to do with the "firmware" I think?? I followed the directions on the screen (shutting down and restarting) to the best of my ability. This resulted in nothing more than a blue screen - another hard reset. Another blue screen. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Decided to disconnect the battery and reconnect it. NOW, I don't even get the startup sound the machine makes - just the little power light comes on and the hard disk doesn't even run.
Other than buying a new machine and never getting anything that was saved on my Macbook back again - which would be devastating - any ideas? Its been like 5 hours now... HELP PLEASE!

Have you update your ipod to firmware 1.2 yet? My guess is the videos you download are in the new 640x480 format which only updated ipod can play.

Help Please! Genius AND WiFi not working on iPod

Hi, I'm using a first gen touch on the latest firmware. even though i have genius on iTunes, it will not transfer onto the iPod. There simply is no genius button. How can I get this working?
Also, on an unrelated note, my WiFi is completely shot. The little scroll thing will pop up for about a second than disappear, even in places where ive been using the WiFi for as long as I've had the iPod, which is about one year! I've never had any problems with the WiFi until I upgraded to 2.0 and above, does anyone know any solutions? I've reset the settings and network settings, and neither of these worked. Any help?

reset your network connection. I think it's under general settings. Same thing happened to me, and that fixed it

hi both my ok/select buttonshave stoped working, im guessing its not the keypad because all the buttons work fine except the both buttons you can use to select things or open programs, my is useless ! i can not even connect pc suit to try and d/l new software because i cnt select it the program on my phone to connect,any help would be very much appreciated

I'd guess it is the keypad, or those keys in particular,
It does sound like a Hardware Fault, best bet is a trip to a nokia care point and let them take a look
If you do want to try something else first only a hard reset springs to mind, tho this will erase alluser data from the phone memory
1. Switch off the phone.
2. Hold down the following three buttons: Green (the call answer button), * button, and '3' button.
3. While holding these buttons, hold the power button for a second to switch on the phone.
4. Release when the phone shows the nokia hands logo or shows other signs of life like the language selection screen.
It may take a few attempts and very flexible fingers.

Yes. And since you aren't backed up, you may have to use Prosoft Data Rescue to try to recovery any information that is critical. First though, do you have another Mac you can hook this one up to using Target Disk Mode?

Similarly, if you have a bootable external hard drive, you can try to boot off that with the Startup manager:

To rescue your information. This at least will allow you to do further analysis to see what data corruption might have happened. If the drive is invisible when booted off another, that may indicate a directory issue. But first let's see if we can attach or boot off another and see the internal drive of the machine.

I'm not aware of a minimum amount of photos to play with music, I've tried it with 2. But I suspect something is wrong with the music you have selected, the "!" is shown if LR cannot read the mp3 file and cannot determine its length. I've seen this with some mp3's, but I cannot determine why. Have you tried a different mp3?

Its possible that the server can be down now. Have you ever used it before? If you want, try resseting the phone by just holding the sleep/wake key and the home button together for 10 seconds. Then wait 5 seconds when it turns off and press the sleep/wake button to turn it back on. Then try it again. Let me know what the results are.

Starts up like the first time you buy a new Mac, but after filling in all that info again, you should have access to the computer and the other Users & files will still be there... though I was just thinking, this new User probably shouldn't be the same name as an existing one.

I have the same mini display port adapter and Belkin DVI-HDMI cable (but a Panasonic 42" Plasma HDTV) so just set this up on it to see if I could duplicate your problem, unfortunately for you (but good for me) I can't.
I connected the adapter+HDMI cable before switching the HDTV on and then powered up the MBP. It (the HDTV) came up with my background right away (it's set at Mirror not extended Desktop) and when I run System Preferences/Displays get the following. Sorry but all I can confirm is that adapter+cable combination should work ...

There are several possible causes for this issue. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried until it's resolved. Some may not apply in your case.
1. Follow the instructions in this support article, and also this one, if applicable. A damaged or defective AC adapter could be the cause, even if it's the right kind.
2. Press down all four corners of the trackpad at once and release. If there's any effect, it's likely to be temporary, and in that case the unit must be serviced or replaced.
3. Open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and delete all pointing devices other than the trackpad, if applicable. Disconnect any USB pointing devices. By a "pointing device," I mean a peripheral that moves the cursor, such as a trackpad, mouse, trackball, or graphics tablet. A plain keyboard is not a pointing device.
4. Start up in safe mode and test, preferably without launching any third-party applications. If you don't have the problem in safe mode, but it comes back when you restart as usual, stop here and post your results. Do the same if you can't start in safe mode. If there was no difference in safe mode, go on to the next step.
5. Reset the System Management Controller.
6. If you're using a Bluetooth trackpad, investigate potential sources of interference, including USB 3 devices.
7. A swollen battery in a portable computer can impinge on the trackpad from below and cause erratic behavior. If you have trouble clicking the trackpad, this is likely the reason. The battery must be replaced without delay.
8. There's a report that a (possibly defective) Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter can cause the built-in trackpad of a MacBook to behave erratically. If you're using such an adapter, disconnect it and test.
9. There's also a report of erratic cursor movements caused by an external display that was connected but not turned on.
10. If none of the above applies, or if you have another reason to think that your computer is being remotely controlled, remove it from the network by turning off Wi-Fi (or your Wi-Fi access point), disconnecting from a Bluetooth network link, and unplugging the Ethernet cable or USB modem, whichever is applicable. If the cursor movements stop at once, you should suspect an intrusion.
11. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine and/or external trackpad tested.

The CMSS-3D Stereo Expand mode is rather subtle. It should be used when you have 2.0 source, but surround speaker system, like 5..
Most of the time it does not do much: on regular music it just gives slightly wider stereo picture, with very slight backstage sounds, but hardly any.
Sometimes the Stereo Expand then kicks in, and can create wonderful 3D sound from 2.0 source. Lately I have been noticing excellent surround sound from regular television 2.0 stereo sound! For some reason CMSS-3D Stereo Expand can really separate "background" sounds and move them to the surround speakers. And it does indeed create the center speaker effect from (tight middle) stereo effects.
But you need to listen to hear this.
Of course you need to have the settings proper: have the actual speaker system matching your output devices, and then have CMSS on and the source needs to be 2.0.
CMSS-3D Headphones is quite another mode, and I will not go into it here. I do not have good enough information about it when listening to 2.0 source.
For 5. source the CMSS-3D Headphones works admirably. However the Bass Redirect or possible bass boost is extracted from all the (virtual) spekares, which have just received the new signal from the "upmix algorithm": if you have any bass enhancements, you may need to drop them for CMSS-3D Headphones.
Notice: having "synchronize with windows spekers" is best to be on, so you don't have 2.0->5.(Windows)->5.(virtual)->Headphones transition, this may muffle the sound a lot, and add too much bass boost. It's best to have 2.0 Headphones mode direct on the sound device, and let it extract the 5. signal from the surround sources and do it's magic for 2.0 mapping. This way you avoid extra Bass Redirect as well.
