HELP! Please with Airport Extreme

I bought an Airport Extreme in July when I also bought my MB Pro. I finally got my CPU room done and want to hook it up tonight and after 2hrs, it still doesn't work. The LED continuously flashes yellow, which is suppose to mean no connection or signal from my cable modem. This doesn't make sense, my connection is fine through either my old Linksys router and/or directly into my either net port on my computer. Is there a setting I didn't get right or do I have a bad base station?????

  • Help! iMac would not Connect/Find with Airport Extreme

Strange issue. I used to connect my Airport extreme with iMac, until recently iMac could not join with aiport. Instead my iMac connected to my neighbor's network. I'm using Time Warner cable.
However, my MBP and my Dell laptop could connect to my airport. Any ideas what could interfere with my iMac? I already called the Tech support and even went to the Apple store, they all said is the iMac since the iMac was able to connect with all the airports at the store. The tech support suggested me to move my airport to a room with less interference. Is that right? the iMac or the airport should I move?
We spent 2 hours, resetting back to factory setting and still iMac could not join Airport Extreme.
Any suggestions or advices are appreciated.
    Tom

Thank you for your e-mail, Duane. Yes, the airport express (hooked up to my stereo in the dining room) does receive iTunes from my G5 in the office. The light is a blinking yellow, but it still receives the signal.
Last night, I was able to get an internet signal on my eMac (with airport extreme card installed) from the VersaLink router that my G5 uses in the office!
I figured out that the eMac and G5 were obviously not communicating with each other, and went to the Airport icon on the top of both screens to make sure that the Location Names were correct. I discovered that I needed to change the G5 from the Airport Express Location (stereo)to the name of the eMac location (Master Bedroom). Then I got the network connection. I suppose to play iTunes to my stereo, I will have to change the location, again, right?
Another comment: I was rather amazed that, after at least an hour and a half phone conversation with three different technicians, no one came close to this solution. And I'm paying for technical help (two years left on a three year contract)! Evidently, it is not common knowledge that a wireless router and an airport extreme card with mini-antenna can communicate? I came close to buying an Airport Extreme Base Station because I thought that I might need it!!!
So, I'm thinking I'm in the right ballpark but would welcome any more comments.
    Thanks for listening.

Can I use my iPad with airport extreme to retrieve files from a USB connected hard drive?

Yes, I believe so. Please check out the NetPortal app. I don't have an iPad, but I use it on my iPod Touch to access files on my Time Capsule. It is available from the iTunes App Store.

  • Is anyone successfully using Netgear WN3000RP with Airport Extreme?

Got a brand new WN3000RP wifi range extender. I went through the installation several times myself and several times with tech support to no avail. Tech support told me to return it for a new one.
Everything is connected and the install process goes smoothly but I ultimately cannot ever use the extended network to connect to the Internet. I can see the range extender's mac address on the router but the two devices don't seem to talk to each other.
I'm just wondering if I'm going to have the same problem with a new one or not and wondering if it's even compatible with Airport Extreme routers.
I'm using Airport Utility version 6.1.
Can someone out there can let me know if they got this device working with their Airport Extreme?
Also, what are my other options to extend my range?

I know this answer is likely too late to help but it may help users in the future. In the situation where you are using a range extender there are a few things you need to confirm to make sure it is going to function properly and also some best practices to make sure your network is running smoothly.
    1. Is the range extender using the router for DHCP? I have found in my experience is that the router should "reserve" a MAC Address and IP for the the Range Extender. Most times it is 192.168.1.2. I would first set up the router to have the range extender have a set IP Address of 192.168.***.2 and add the MAC Address to the list so that the Range Extender has a Static IP Address in the private network.
    2. Initially set the range extender to have an SSID(Wireless Network Name) different than the Router's(Airport) SSID. This will allow you to determine if the Extender is functioning normally without it interfering with your existing network.
    3. At this point it is important to set the Range Extender DHCP. What this will do is let the range extender request IP Addresses, DNS(Domain Name Servers), and UPNP Requests. This is where I feel that a lot of people are having issues and assume that the router will still resolve DHCP. If the SSID and Wireless Channel are the same your network will work intermittently with internet access until it is configured correctly.
    4. For Devices that will stay on your network such as NAS(Network Storage), Smart TVs, Apple TVs I would recommend setting Static Private IP Addresses for each of them. Such as 192.168.1.3(NAS), 192.168.1.4(Apple TV), 192.168.5(Smart TV). Also if you enter the MAC Address for each device when you set this up it would be recommended.
    5. If devices are having issues connecting to internet or certain web services are having issues. It may be necessary to set the Extender(Which is now handling DHCP with IP, DNS, and UPNP passed through from the router) as the Gateway for which device may be having issues. For instance if the Apple TV is having issues communicating on the network(Air Play, Sharing, Streaming) set or configure the network settings manually on the Apple TV. The IP Address would be the one your reserved on your router. The Subnet Mask would likely be 255.255.255.0 by default unless you have changed the amount of potential "Hosts" on your network. The Gateway would be the IP Address of the Extender(Which is paired with your router). DNS servers should be handled automatically. In some situations with certain devices you may need to use a DNS Service for Streaming, but this generally isn't needed.
    A Visual Representation would be
ISP>Modem if needed>Router(DHCP Enabled and MAC Addresses Reserved)>Localized Devices<Range Extender(DHCP Enabled and Static IP Address 192.168.***.***)<Apple TV(Manually Configured IP Settings and Range Extender set as Gateway)<Other Devices Localized to Range Extender but not in range of Router(AirPort).
In this representation you should be able to have the router and range extender broadcast Identical SSID and Channels(Radio Frequency). This also allows for advanced settings to be put in place such as LAN networks or Subnets.
An issue that may come up is communicating with the range extender or router while setting up the network. A simple workaround that will allow you to configure either if the network doesn't let you connect on a MacBook is to go to System Preferences>Network>Wifi or Ethernet>Advanced>TCP/IP in configure IPv4>Set Using DHCP with Manual Address> Then IP Address that corresponds with your current network 192.168.***.*** but is not the same as the gateway, router, or reserved devices. This will allow you to connect and configure devices even if router or extender is not assigning IP addresses or operating properly.

  • Creating a bridge with airport extreme (base) and airport express

i am having trouble creating a bridge with airport extreme (base) and airport express. i got the airport express to connect to my network. Airtunes sees it fine. i have an iMac (running Tiger) connected to the airport express via ethernet which i was hoping to get internet on (the iMac doesn't not have built in wireless and i had a spare airport express). now the airport express is no longer visible to the airport setup assistant on that iMac. but, like i mentioned, Airtunes is working fine, and the light is green.
i'm new to the wireless stuff. i am sure i just missed a step. how do i get the iMac to connect to the internet via my airport express bridging to my airport extreme wireless network?
    your help is appreciated.

You can do this with the equipment you have. Configure the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) to act as a WDS main base station and configure the AirPort Express (AX) to act as a WDS remote base station. That will allow you to use the Ethernet port on the AX.
Unfortunately WDS also causes the available wireless bandwidth to be cut in half.

  • Can i use a cisco RE1000 range extender with airport extreme

Can I use a Cisco R1000 range extender with airport extreme?

Apple's "extend a wireless network" function appears to be a proprietary feature that will only work with other Apple routers.
As far as we know, devices from other manufacturers are not compatible with this feature.
Bottom line....It would be extremely unlikely that this would work, but it's worth a try if you already have the products in hand.

    Diane,
I have added very few apps to my G5. The majority of my time is spent editing photos with PhotoshopCS3. I have software updates set to run weekly and have always kept them up to date. I really believe it's a disk permissions issue...but repairing them doesn't help.
*+Upon installation, I used Archive and Install.+* While I agree that Erase and Install may sound like a good idea, it makes me nervous. I do have everything backed up on a bootable CMS drive, but I'm a photographer and was hoping to not have to erase the G5.
Yes, as I mentioned in the original post, I've downloaded and installed the Airport firmware update. And all software is up to date.
All was working just dandy before the upgrade. Unfortunately now it's sounding like I may have to erase my hard drive and install fresh.
If I do that, is it just a matter then of dragging my photos from the backup disk to the G5? And documents? Etc?? The thought of getting all my photos and important information back on the G5 seems a bit staggering.

  • Any current inkjet printers work with Airport Extreme 802.11g Basestation?

Does anyone know if there are any printers out there currently being sold that actually work with Airport Extreme (802.11g)? Not the latest 802.11n basestation, but the UFO-shaped Extreme g basestation? I recently tried the HP DeskJet D4160 and it does not work at all with it, although my deprecated HP 940c works just fine. I need to replace the 940C, and I don't want to have to buy and return 20 different printers in order to find one that actually works... Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
    That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now.  They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.
    Thanks for listening,

  • Problems with AirPort Extreme and connecting to personal ftp

    Hi all
I seem to be having a problem with connecting to my personal server outside of my network. When I connect using a static IP within my network(192.168.1.x) I can connect fine using my Mac and PC so I've ruled out improper server settings. I've mapped a port (21) to the same static IP as my server, but I cannot connect. I am prompted with "An FTP Connection to "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" could not be opened because the FTP server dropped the connection" I think I've toggled every option in the Airport Utility but nothing seems to work. Has anybody been successful in making this work?
    Thanks for any help offered

OK, thanks for the info, which really helps.
Your AirPort Extreme is in Bridge Mode, so the IP addresses that your devices need are being assigned by the Cradelpoint router, not the AirPort Extreme.
Either the Cradlepoint router is not allowing more than 3 devices to connect, or it is your service provider that is limiting the number of devices that can connect....probably because of very limited bandwidth.
I'm not sure whether you want to try to contact support at Cradlepoint or your service provider to try to find out who is actually responsible for the maximum number of connections allowed, since they will likely each blame the other for the problem.
The workaround...if you want to try it, since it bends networking rules a bit....is to configure the AirPort Extreme as a router, not a bridge.
The upside to this is that all of your devices will be able to connect and get a valid IP address.
One downside is that this will introduce what is known as a Double NAT error on the network, but that is rarely serious on a home network, and Apple does provide you with the option to "ignore" the error, so you get a nice green light on the AirPorts.
Another downside may be....depending on the bandwidth that your service provides....that your connection is really slow....as in dial up speed slow....when you have a number of devices all connected to the network simultaneously, since they will all share the available bandwidth is provided.
I never had any problems in the past with wireless connections when I configured the AirPort as the router. But I also was very careful to avoid downloading large files using the Cradlepoint connection since the bandwidth was quite limited.
Not sure how you want to proceed.
We can tell you how to configure the AirPort as the router in this type of setup if you will let us know what operating system you used to configure the AirPorts, but we cannot guarantee that things will work for you if you try it.

  • Automatic backups more on Drobo with Airport Extreme

The Timed Access settings in AirPort Utility will allow you to control "who" connects to your network and "when" they can connect.
AirPort Utility >Click AirPort icon > Edit > Network tab > Enable Timed Access
For more information, click the Help menu at the top of the screen
    Click AirPort Utility Help
Click Setting up a WiFi network,
Click Control when a user can access your network, and also
Click Control access to your wireless network.

If K Penguin's suggestion doesnt work, you will have to go to you iTunes and do a reset, that is if you do not have it in your back up library.

  • I'm looking for a list of printers compatible with Airport Extreme

My existing HP printer is not compatible with Airport Extreme and I want to be able to print from all of my Apple devices. I'm looking for a new photo quality printer / scanner / copier which will work wirelessly with all my devices.

Sorry, but there is no "official" list of printers that Apple provides that indicate which are fully functional with the AirPorts. One "unofficial" list has been maintained by iFelix and may be worth taking a look at.
