Help please with output settings in Save For Web Photoshop CS4

I am new to CS4 Photoshop so have been watching tutorials on Lynda.com. According to that tutorial I should have the ability to save a photo as an image in the Output Settings dialog box. The only options my panel gives me are:
HTML
Slices
Background
Saving Files
I don't have the option for Images Only or for HTML & Images. Are these two hidden somewhere?
I have been experimenting with Save For Web, but when I click on Save I get a panel that lists all the images saved in a folder named "Photos" but I cannot find in that folder any of the images that I optimized and saved for the web. Where are they to be found? Images that show up in Bridge are not my optimized images either.I would be grateful for some assistance with this.

Those settings, HTML, Slices, etc, are the Output Settings you don't normally need to change aonything in there.
Leave it at default and you will just save a version of the image stripped of unnecessary data and reduced to the degree you specified next to the file format choice.
When you press Save in the SfW interface it calls up a Windows OS Save dialog box showing the last used location.
The destination can be changed in the normal way. The Images you already saved will be in the the location that was in that dialog when you saved them.
There is a lot more information in the help pages on this topic!  (Hint.)

  • Colour issue with 'Save for Web' - Photoshop Elements 6 (Mac)

Cross posted here, but no answer so far. Sorry for cross posting. For me, this is urgent, but I know it's not for anyone else, so apologies for putting 'urgent'.
    http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/images-graphic-design-digital-photography/150670-colour-i ssue-save-web-photoshop-elements-6-a.html#post840419
This is a similar issue to this:
    Save for web color issue
Except the user who posted the above was using photoshop cs3, and I'm using Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.
When I work on a photo, I get it just right, then go to Save for Web, and the original it previews is loads lighter than the orginal I was working on in the first place. See 'Picture 1' attachment.
I have changed the colour settings on the Save for Web options - I've chosen each one in turn, and none fix the problem.
There seems to be no similar option in PSE6 to this that fixed it in CS3:
IN the save for web box there is a small round button with an arrow in it (near the Done button).
In the list when this button is pressed deselect Convert to sRGB
I used to use PSE2 on a PC, and never had this problem. I didn't need to mess about with colour profiles or anything similar on the PC. The original was the original, not a washed out version of the original. Why spend ages getting the file just right, only for Save for Web to screw it up?
Any advice to fix this would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

Thanks very much for your reply.
    I've uploaded the images here:
    http://jimpix.co.uk/images/Picture 1.jpg
    http://jimpix.co.uk/images/Picture 2.png
I deleted the prefs. file you suggested, and then opened PSE6.
I then tried the profile setting you suggested - but it's not an option:
    http://jimpix.co.uk/images/Picture 3.png
I tried 'remove profile' just in case that worked, but the same effect happens on Save for Web.
Not sure what to try next!

  • Missing Default Settings in "Save for Web"

The only settings I get in "Save for Web / Devices" are "Unnamed" and "-----".
Where would these preferences have disappeared to? I don't recall ever seeing the standard options ever since installing the CS3 Master Collection. ImageReady and Photoshop CS3 usually have a few JPG, GIF and PNG options.
Could I download the original settings file somewhere, without reinstalling anything?

  • Help, please, with wifi settings....!

I am feeling like an idiot and am not having success finding clear, definitive help with wifi settings. I am trying to connect to the internet using my office wireless network via wifi. The office wireless network has pre-defined DNS settings and IP address, also a 10-digit WEP code is required. The network shows up on my wifi network list automatically. When I press the blue arrow to the right, I start getting lost.
IP Address and Subnet mask I understand. But router...? Is that the same as "default gateway"? And what is "Search Domains" and "Client ID"? What are they for? They don't correspond to any settings used when setting up a Windows wireless network. And where do I type in the WEP key?? I am not seeing any place to do that -- unless under "Choose a Network..." I select "Other" >> "Security". But I don't want "Other" -- I want the network that is listed there automatically with a check mark by it!
Can somebody help me here? Please?!

Search domains is a place to force automatic domain names to be checked when typing in just a host name. For example, if you just type in "www", the network will automatically add "foo.com" if it was in the search domain. It's the same as "domain suffix search" in Windows. It's not needed unless required.
Client ID is a way to force a network to recognize the client as a specific computer. It's sort of like a unique identifier, except that it doesn't have to be unique. For example, you can have a wifi ap reject all connections unless they have a client id of "foo". If it's not set up, it's not needed.
As to why you're not getting prompted for your WEP key, I can only surmise that it might not be needed. The iPhone will prompt you for the WEP key when it tries to connect. The fact that you're getting a check mark next to the connection, and not getting prompted leads me to believe that there is no WEP key, or it's not needed in your case. Did you update to 1.1.1? Maybe that broke something.

  • "Save for Web" Photoshop CC

I'm getting an error message saying "The operation could not be completed."  I am able to "save as".
I installed CC yesterday and am on a Windows 7 64bit computer.  I am using the 64 bit Photoshop CC. I've restarted it several times and still that is happening.  Any remedies?

Try downsampling the file (really small), and see if it works. If it does, then iterate on the file size, becuase the function might be running out of memory due to a large file size.

  • Save for Web does not remember quality settings

    Hello,
I just about PSE8 today and Im on a mac with Leopard.
PSE does not remember the quality settings when "save for web".
The quality is 0 every time Im saving. Even if I change to 100 it does not remember it.
Can you help please? Im far from being an expert here.

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
However in my library-folder/preferences folder I found 5 folders or files which are connected to adobe.
"write and read" is activated on all and Im the main user on this mac.
There is even one file called "Adobe PSE für Web speichern 6.0 Vor" so pretty much like "save for web". On this one I can write and read as well.
On Windows, there is a preferences file that is stored in the proper location for such files:
C:\Users\Ellis\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Save For Web PSE\4.0\Adobe Save For Web PSE 4.0 Prefs
PSE has no problem writing that file.  This sounds similar to the file you found.
However, there is another file that Save For Web tries to write:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 6.0\Settings\Recently Used Optimizations.irs
It is this file that is located improperly, in Program Files, which is supposed to be only for read-only executables (.exe), dynamic link libraries (.dll), and other read-only assets live.  Programs normally don't have write permissions for these folders, so Save For Web fails to save its preferences.  Perhaps there is something similar on the Mac.  (I'm not an OS X expert, so I can't help with the Mac conventions of where things are kept.)

  • Save for web color shift - only on images smaller than 150x150px

I'm getting a color shift only on small images (150x150px or smaller) when I save for web in Photoshop CC and CS6. That's very weird as it doesn't happen to images larger than 150x150px! That issue happens with images with different measurements as well (e.g. rectangle), the small looks dull and the larger display the right color.
My Color Settings are set to "Monitor Color". Under save for web I have the following options not ticked: Embed Color Profile and Convert to sRGB. (viget.com/inspire/the-mysterious-save-for-web-color-shift)
I'm running the OS X 10.8.4 on a macbook pro, I tested that on both, Safari 6.0.5 and FF.
The squares in the screenshot were saved exatly the same way. The largerer displays the right color #FFCB32, but the smaller displays the color wrong.
    I appreciate your help.
    Cheers

JPG & PNG = Color Profile "Don't Color Manage this document". Save under save for web I have the following options not ticked: Embed Color Profile and Convert to sRGB. (viget.com/inspire/the-mysterious-save-for-web-color-shift)

  • Save for Web Issue

I recently discovered that save for web is no longer functioning as expected on my machine. The problem showed up for the first time yesterday and may be the result of a recent update, though I hadn't paid close attention to which CC updates I've applied in the last few weeks.
What's happening is that whenever I use save for web to export a file, browsers are unable to display it. Most browsers simply fail to load it and Firefox reports "The image 'xyz.png' cannot be displayed because it contains errors.
Sounded like a textbook case of trying to load an image that uses CMYK, but this is not the case. Color mode is RGB with sRGB as the color profile in use. I get the same results if I use save for web to export gif, jpg or png, even on newly-created PSD files. I have tried a number of different settings/variations for export and if I simply use save as to export a png, all is well.
Opening the PSD file on another computer with CS6 and using save for web works just fine, so I don't think it's the file.
Anyone else experiencing this? I saw a reference to somethign similar in another post suggesting a complete reinstall of Photoshop, but am hoping there's a simpler fix.

What is your screen size/resolution in pixels?
If you have a small screen it may be too small.

  • Photoshop slice tool and Save for Web image quality. Will it affect prints?

I want to slice a large photo into multiple smaller (4x6) printable photos to arrange in a 12x12 inch scrapbook binder pocket (made of of 4x6 pockets). I need to order separate 4x6s online so tiling in the print options is not what I need.
The slow way I know to do this involves cropping and saving each section (maybe even recording this action to do batch processing). However, another way is to use the slice tool to quickly divide up the sections then "Save for Web...". I can adjust some parameters, but I'm afraid there are other automatic adjustments that I don't want. For example, all images are converted to 96 dpi instead of the original 300 dpi. The number of pixels remains the same so I don't think there will be problems printing the picture.
My question is: does the Save for Web function reduce image quality in any way when printing (it is obviously intended to be used to optimize images for websites)? Are there settings in "Save for Web" that would optimize for high quality prints? Is there a better way to tile an image?
I have not yet compared any prints.
    W7
    CS6

If you understand that something will do something you do not want like convert to 96 DPI as long as it does not resample you can always convert back to 300 DPI. If you want 6 4x6 to form a 12x12 you must start with an square 1:1 aspect ratio image. That you resample to 12"x 12" at 300 dpi if you want 6 4x6 300 dpi images.
If the original images vary in size and aspect ratio you need to crop them square or add two borders to make them square.   The rest is easy to do with an action.
The square crop or border can be automated with a little scripting.  If crop  a center crop would be the route to go. My crafting actions package contains  more the a dozen scripts to be used within action. One is a plug-in script that would make center cropping a snap two steps menu File>Automat>AspectsRatioSelection followed menu Image>Crop.  Add a menu Image>Size set side to 12" and resolution 300 DPI and you have your  starting 12"x12" 300 dpi image.
Flatten the image make your first 4"x6" selection copy past to add it as a layer. Select the background select the next 4x6 area copy and paste repeat that process till you have added the 6 4"X6" layers. Then delete the background, Select all, target all layers and use layer>Align layers to selection>Top edge then repeat align to left edge. the Image>Trim you have your 6 4x6 in a stack.   You can the use Adobe Photoshop Script Export Layer to file.   All automated in an action however the last step Export layers to files is interactive for its not a plug-in script. So if you batch it you keen to hang around to interact with the last step for each image.
You could also write you own export script that would not need human intervention to use instead of Adobe interactive script.

    Thanks
    Reg

    Hi again, rego.
I did a bit of searching and someone had a similar problem as you where simply deleting the pref file via key command didn't work. A user suggested to first zip the Save for Web preferences and then delete the preferences. I am not sure what zipping the file does but basically they are suggesting delete the preferences manually.
So try zipping the save for web preferences file and then delete it. After this is done, restart Photoshop and see if it helps. To find where the Save for Web preferences are, refer to this page:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405012.html
EDIT: I am not sure if I was clear about the process suggested in the other post. For clarification, the suggestion is to zip the Save for Web preferences file and then delete the zipped file of the Save for Web preferences.

  • Save for web - grayed out

Earlier this week i had a serious Photoshop error message upon launch - something like cannot complete request, which wouldn't allow me to do ANYTHING in photoshop - doing a software update alleviated that problem and i can open files as normal, but now i'm vexed with the inability to SAVE FOR WEB & DEVICES... i have searched through older posts, looking for similar issues, and have removed the Save for Web 10 pref and restarted to no avail... any other ideas...?
    CS3, OX10.5.2
(the app is in the Adobe generated folder in applications.)
    thank you for any insight...
    Mary

Huh, I'm not running 10.5, but that looks right to me...
    So,
    file is 8-bit
Photoshop App is in the right place,
    you've trashed SFW prefs...
don't know, those are the usual suspects.
Make sure you threw out the right SFW prefs file, the Adobe Illustrator SFW pref file is very similar in name.
Also, try trashing main Photoshop prefs (hold down Shift+Option+Command keys as you launch Photoshop, you'll get a dialog to delete your settings. Click OK)

  • Adobe Save for Web and Devices Error

I had a problem with Save for Web and Devices in Photoshop CS4 - and am posting the solution for anyone else that might encounter this (posted previously for Mac but not Windows). This problem suddenly occurred - and I'm not sure why. I had the most updated Photoshop CS4 version: 11.0.2.
Issue: When I tried to overwrite an existing image using Save for Web and Devices, I received an "Adobe Save for Web & Devices Error": "Could not write the file. A file system error has occurred"
This error prevented any file (originally created using Save for Web &Devices) from being saved again with the same name. I figured out the solution by finding the resolution for Mac Photoshop and adapting it for the PC version. The solution for me was to delete the following files:  "Default Settings.iros" and "Recently Used Optimizations.irs" (the only two files present) in the following directory:
    C:\Documents and Settings\[user profile name]\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS4 Settings\en_US\Save for Web Settings\
Note that there were other sub-directories of the "Save for Web Settings" folder - I didn't touch any of those. The problem is now resolved and Photoshop seems to function normally.

Honestly, I haven't had problems with reading/writing files to/from network drives, but I have read on this forum that there are times when it causes problems for people.
And yes, if you used the command line NET USE (or the Explorer Map Network Drive) function to create the drive, it is actually using Windows Networking behind the scenes.

  • Filenames getting truncated in Save for Web AppleScript

Hey all, running CS4 on an Apple Macbook Pro (using OS X 10.5.6). I am creating an AppleScript that saves out a number of files with different filenames using save for web. The problem is that Photoshop CS4 is truncating the filename, and using a shorter filename is not an option (there is identifying info in the filename that I need to retain). Is there a way within the script I can set it to allow longer filenames? My current save for the web script line looks as follows:
    export current document in file filename as save for web with options {quality:60, web format:JPEG}
What happens is that a filename like this:
    CANON-PRO8000MKII-ideal-ideal-24.jpg
    gets cut down to this:
    CANON-PRO8000MKII-ideal-ideal#0
I believe that there there is a PShop bug here that has a hard-coded limit on the filename, but which does not happen if you enter  the file name manually: if I go into the save for web dialog and enter the full filename, it works fine.  Any ideas?

I recall having this problem too, my solution was to truncate the file name in the script prior to the save, then rename the saved file.
    e.g.
if length of theNewFileName > 31 then
    set theTempFileName to theNewFileName
set theNewFileName to (text 1 through (31 - (length of theFileExtension) - 1) of theNewFileName & "." & theFileExtension) as string
    end if
set theNewFile to (saveToFolder & theNewFileName) as string
    -- Save the file here
    if theTempFileName = "" then
    -- File name wasn't truncated
    else
    -- Rename truncated file
    tell application "Finder"
    try
set name of (theNewFile as alias) to theTempFileName
    on error errMsg number ERRNUM
display dialog "Error renaming file - " & errMsg
    end try
    end tell
    end if
