Help Please with searching Hard Drive for MP3's etc

Right I installed ITunes and in the install it said do you want ITunes to search your harddrives for MP3s to add to the library. Which I said Yes. I have all mu music on a 200gb External Hard Drive.
WHen it finished the search I had 5 files in my library that were on my desktop.
How do I ask ITunes to search my external harddrive for the rest of my music without importing individually??
Many Thanks in Advance

Just use the Add to Library command (under the File menu) and select the folder(s) on your external drive in which your music is stored.

  • Help please with 2006 Macbook 13inch, for tv hook up.

    Help please with 2006 Macbook 13inch, to hook up to tv for streaming. The display works through VGA but the audio isn't working. Got a plug that goes into headphone jack on computer and connects into the audio jack on the back of tv but no sound. I'm not quite sure what the issue is, whether its the wrong plug, the tv, or the computer. Best Buy says this is the right plug and it seems that it would be, but who knows. If anyone has any experience in this, I would appreciate the help!

    Make sure those audio plugs are matched with the VGA plug. With your MacBook running something with audio switch between your sources on the TV Component, Composite and such. See if the sound is coming from another source. If so then you've got your audio plugs in the wrong jacks.
    Also could you post the make and model number of your TV.

  • HELP PLEASE!! Hard drive upgrade problem

    Hi everyone. I under the direction of others bought an 60GB Powerbook Hard Drive 5400RPM HItachi upgrade from powerbookmedic.com. I bought my powerbook in early 2001 and when I took it apart and proceeded to load in the new hard drive I noticed that the new one did not have connector pins to hook up to the flex cable on the hard drive. Now am I am I missing something here or am I just a moron? I am really frustrated because the model I bought says that it fits with all Powerbook Titanium models. What am I missing? Help please!!!!!!!!!

    Hi, Denny.
    ...and when I took it apart and proceeded to
    load in the new hard drive I noticed that the new one
    did not have connector pins to hook up to the flex
    cable on the hard drive.
    So you removed the old drive, you detached the short flex cable from it, and now you find nothing on the new drive to connect the cable to? Am I understanding correctly?
    If so, is it possible that the connector on the new drive is covered with some sort of temporary shield to protect it during packing, shipping and handling? If it is, the shield should come off if you pull it in the same direction you pulled the flex cable to detach it from your old drive.
    I'm tempted to say you are surely missing something. For Hitachi to have shipped a drive that has no cable connector seems about as likely as for Toyota to have shipped a car with no tires installed, but I suppose anything is (barely) possible.

  • Help me with a Hard Drive upgrade on a macbook Pro (mid 2009)

    I have  a 500gb drive that i want to upgrade.  I see lots of choices at OWC and wonder how to select a good reliable 750 gb or 1 TB internal hard drive. I dont do a lot of imovie video editing so i think 5400 would be ok but would like some guidance.
    7200 vs 5400 and 750 vs 1TB, pros and cons. I would love to go to a 1 TB if it is reliable.
    Also, OWC recommends restoring the drive prior to the swap out. Is that the best way to do it?
    What manufacturer do you recommend?
    any help would be appreciated
    Thanks
    Ross

    You have received good advice from both conran and Network 23.  I have 4 Seagate 750 GB 7200 RPM HDDs, one in my primary MBP and the others in enclosures for Time machine and redundant backup.  I have a 500 GB 5400 RPM Hitachi in my older MBP which originally came in my primary MBP.  And I have a 500 GB 7200 RPM Seagate and 3 Toshibas.  All of them are STILL spinning.  As mentioned by conran, that can always change.
    There are HDD aficionados of certain brands of which I am not.  If it works its good, if not its bad.  This is an anecdotal observation on my part, but there seem to be more problems with Western Digital HDDs than others.  (I may be accosted now by Western Digital fans)
    There is a phenomenon that I came across the other day that I found most interesting.  A HDD with higher disk density (more capacity) at 5400 RPM may outperform a HDD with less disk density (Less GB capacity) at 7200 RPM.  In other words, disk speed alone is a determinant to HDD efficiency.
    OWCs recommendation about restoring is a good one.
    For what its worth, here is how I have swapped HDDs in the past with 100% success:
    INSTALLING A NEW HDD IN A MBP
    1. Make certain that you have backed up all of your important data.
    2. You will need a HDD enclosure.  One with a USB connection will do.  A 9 pin Firewire is better.
    3. Install your new drive in the enclosure and connect it to your MBP.
    4. Open DISK UTILITY>ERASE.  From the left hand column drag the new drive into the 'Name' field.  Make sure that the format is 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)'.  Click on the 'Erase' button.
    5. Click on the 'Restore' button (on top).  Drag the old drive into the 'Source' field and the new drive into the 'Destination'  field.  Click on the 'Restore' button on the bottom right hand corner.
      Depending upon the amount of data you are transferring, this may take a couple hours or more.  A Firewire will speed up the transfer.  This will result in both drives having identical information on them.
    6. After the data transfer has completed, you may swap the drives.  Start the MBP and you have finished the installation.  The initial boot may take a bit longer than you are accustomed to, but that is normal.
    7. When you are satisfied that the new hard drive if functioning properly, you can erase the old drive and use it for any needs that you may have.
    Ciao.

  • Need help setting up external hard drive for FCE project

    Hi folks,
    Basically I am looking at making a 20-30 minute video this summer of my motocross adventures and what not and have equipped myself with an iMac (2.93 GHZ Core2Duo 640GB 4GB) and of course, FCE. I have tried smaller projects before (ranging in length between 20 seconds to upwards of a few minutes) but have noticed an overall decline in computer speed which I am under the impression is being caused by the 10s of GBs of video project files and what not that seem to be scrawled away within my computer. Before I made any videos, my computer was sitting around 560 GBs of free space. Since making maybe 3-4 videos (50/50 iMovie and FCE) its down below 400GBs. I'm not sure whether it's the raw video files or the projects themselves that are so large, but it's slightly frustrating. Is there any sort of software (either third party or apple) that can look at your hard drive and tell you exactly where all the biggest files are? I'll post this question in the iMac forum as I realize this is for FCE, but I thought if anyone knew of one it would be extremely helpful.
    Anyways, I have a SimpleDrive 320GB external HD that I plan to use as my external for making this project within FCE and would like some help in terms of how to set it up with FCE, what are the best settings etc. It is currently formatted with Windows, so I will also need help in setting it up for a Mac. I do have about 120GBs used on it already and was also wondering if I could keep this when re-formatting, but I'm pretty sure I already know the answer to that.
    Sorry for the long-winded post; any information on this or something related would be fantastic. Thanks.

    Yes, you can use your external HD with FCE ... provided it is formatted as +Mac OS Extended+ and is connected via FireWire.
    You will need to back up any data that is on the drive that you want to keep. Before reformatting it. Formatting erases everything that is on the drive.
    Use Disk Utility (located in your +Applications > Utilities+ folder) to format the drive.
    After formatting the drive, go into +FCE > System Settings+ and change your FCE scratch disk location to the external drive.

  • How best to setup a Mac Pro with two hard drives for 1st hard drive or OS failure?

    My first Apple, a Mac Pro,  is to arrive on Monday (1/7).  I will be putting Win7 on Bootcamp and installing Parrallels.  It will have two 1T hard drives.   I would appreciate
    any advice on how best to set it up for best recovery in case of a hard drive or OS crash.   You can tell I have experience with Windows.    It looks like my best choices are
    either disk cloning software or just installing OS X from the recovery disk  on the second drive.   Apple says it is legal to do another installation.   I know the disk cloning will not work on the bootcamp partition which I plan to use for the Parallels program.  Can OS X have an option to boot from two differnet disks and OS installs?
    What I am really wanting to do in the event of a crash,  is to just boot up on the other disk and keep working.     I try to keep data on a separate partition  with backups so
    that a disk or OS crash doesn't cause any data loss.

    I do not use windows.
    However on my Mac Pro for cloning/backups/bootable backups i use Carbon Copy Cloner.
    It has an ability to clone entire disk (unless specified differently) so I can boot from another disk or restore back if I want to.

  • Help please with a Static Initializer for ImageIcons inside Jar Files

    At the moment I'm playing around displaying XML using A JTree
    I am subclassing DefaultMutableTreeNode, and want it to have some default Icons set up....
    Sort of like this:
    public class XNode extends DefaultMutableTreeNode
        public static final ImageIcon icon;
       public static ImageIcon getIcon()
            return XNode.icon;
    }The only thing is that for the life of me after trying various things and searching these forums and google:
    I can't work out how to write the static Initializer for the ImageIcon.
    The ImageIcon will need to be created using a URL, cos it will be inside my jar file.....
    the usual...
               URL url = this.getClass().getResource("/images/Exit16.gif");
               ImageIcon Icon = new ImageIcon( url );but I wanted these Icons to be class members..............
    Could someone help?
    }

    DrClap " I don't understand why you put Class.forName in there either"
    A: Because I don't really know what I'm doing.
    I will try that suggestion.
    At present I have this:
         static ImageIcon loadIcon;
         static
              try
                loadIcon = new ImageIcon( Class.forName("cis.editor.xml.nodes.AlNode").getResource("/images/Exit16.gif"));
              catch( ClassNotFoundException cnfe )
                   System.out.println("ClassNotFound: " + cnfe.getMessage() );
         public static final ImageIcon defaultIcon = loadIcon;
         static
              try
                loadIcon = new ImageIcon( Class.forName("cis.editor.xml.nodes.AlNode").getResource("/images/tree_folder_major.gif"));
              catch( ClassNotFoundException cnfe )
                   System.out.println("ClassNotFound: " + cnfe.getMessage() );
         public static final ImageIcon commentIcon = loadIcon;
    //.......... ANd so OnWhy? Because do far it was the only way I could get it to compile.
    And It works..
    However it's a real abortion.. codewise.
    I need to load about 16 Icons that the various subclasses can 'use'
    DefaultTreeCellRenderer - must do somethng similar because it has a bunch of Icons to "Pick from",
    Only How is that done 'properly' ?

  • Help please with capture / sequence settings for DVCAM PAL 16:9

    Simple question but I'm baffled by choices for capture/sequence using FCP6 to capture 16:9 PAL DVCAM. Have tried esay set up (not enough options) and also sequence and capture settings manually too many options ) and always seem to end up with borders top and bottom, not full viewer / canvas at correct aspect ratio. Can someone tell me correct settings. I'm baffled by inclusion of 5:4 aspect ratio and whether in the compression box under advanced settings in the sequence settings bow I should select 4:3 or 16:9 and in the seq. settings box itself whether I should check anamorphic 16:9.In audio/video settings (summary tab) there's also a question about playback settings which is set to '(missing) apple firewire pal 720x568'. What's that about. Any assistance much appreciated.

    Don't over think it. There's no reason why you should have to modify a capture preset in your situation. Use the easy setup for DV PAL 48 KHz Anamorphic (assuming your footage is anamorphic and not letterboxed). If you're seeing gray bars at the top and bottom of the canvas, hit ctrl-U to have the windows automatically adjusted to the right size. If you're seeing black bars, then your footage is probably letterboxed. You should use the regular DV PAL easy setup to capture that. If the Video Playback device is set to (missing) it's because your deck or camera is not turned on, or isn't connected to the computer.

  • Need a new hard drive for T43...

    I need help finding a new hard drive for my T43.  It appears that my hard drive is starting to fail.  It just seems to not power up all the time during boot up or it just dies after it's in used for a little while.  The T43 seems to only be compatible with certain types of hard drives though and I can't find any place that still sells them.  Does anyone know of a place that still sells hard drive compatible with the T43?

    Welcome to the forum!
    Any PATA laptop drive will work as long as it's 9.5mm high, but most of today's drives will throw a "2010 error" on boot, which is really not a big deal IMHO.
    The biggest hard drive that won't throw this error is Fujitsu MHV2120AH (120GB/5400rpm) that has been discontinued a while ago. Expect to pay a hefty premium for a sealed one.
    A lot of good info here:

  • How to use Mac with 2 hard drives?

    I have a MacBook Pro that I have been using with one hard drive for 2 years. I am about to install a second hard drive inside of the computer, and I would like to know how use my laptop with these 2 hard drives. The drives I will use will be...

    OS
    Applications
    750 GB HDD (secondary)
    iTunes library
    Docs, pictures, music, movies, misc.
    Everything else
    Is this possible? Do I need to simply drag and drop the folders onto the hard drive that I want them in?
    Thanks.

  • I can't search my LaCie external hard drive for files or folders.... please

    Hello.
    i am having trouble searching my LaCie hard drive for files or folders. The drive is mounted but a search using SPOTLIGHT or FILESPOT only results in my computer producing results.
    can anyone help please?
    cheers

    When the Lacie drive is plugged into your computer, open System Preferences->Spotlight->Privacy to confirm that the drive is not in the privacy list.
    If it is in the list, Spotlight won't index and search the drive.
    If it is not in the list, consider adding it to the list (for example, by dragging its icon from the Desktop to the list), waiting 10 seconds, and then removing it from the list (click the minus(-) button). This will force OS X to re-index the drive and make it suitable for searching.

    Hold down the Option key while you boot your Mac. Then, it should show you a selection of devices. Click your flash drive and it will boot from that.
