Help-plugging a mic into Garageband

So I'd like to record my voice in Garageband, I plugged my mic into the preamp and then into the mic port on my iMac, then created a new track to record on. I can record o.k. but I'd like to disable the built-in mic on the computer because it captures both the signals from the mic and from the built-in mic in the computer. Also, I'd like to be able to hear the mic in the headphones as I record. Anyone know how I can do this?

  • Use a mini jack-USB Converter to plug iRig Mic into the apple Camera Connection

My new recording studio is GarageBand on our NEW iPad -of course!   Ill be using the iRig Microphone but i wonder if it would be better to go thru the iPad's camera port as i would, the Apogee 'JAM'.  There are mini jack USB adaptors I could use for the iRig Mic ,as i have mentioned . Does it matter ? Would that be an un-needed expense?

Probably not. A 2011 software update significantly reduced the amount of power allocated to the USB, rendering many devices that used to plug in non-functional now. If there's no app then there's not likely to be a driver to allow the keyboard to work.
If your keyboard manufacturer has any sort of support board then you may want to look there and see if they have more info.

  • Need help recording with an external mic on garageband!!!

I'm a singer and i'm trying to figure out how to record vocals on garageband with an external mic that can plug into the powerbook. However, when i record it uses the internal mic instead I have no clue how to change it so it will use the external mic. Please help!!!
    Thanks,
    Stef=)

You HAVE to use a Mic that is powered! Just plugging a Mic into the Powerbook and switching the input to Line-in doesn't cause it to work.
I believe Griffin Techologies makes an adapter that will work and there are some other one out there. Google powered mics and see what comes up.

  • Plugging guitar into garageband

I recently purchased an adaptor that goes into my headphone jack so that i could plug my guitar into garageband and record it. How do I adjust the settings so that garageband recognizes the guitar in order to play and record with it.

The headphone jack of your Mac? That's an OUT, not an IN. Use the input jack. (Unless you have a MacBook with a dual purpose jack. In that case I believe you have to set it as IN in System Prefs.)
Then in GarageBand Prefs>Audio/MIDI set the input to the built-in option.

  • Please help- M-audio mic nova and fast track usb not working

    Hi All,
I just purchased a m-audio nova microphone and the fast track usb interface. I was hoping to use this to record overhead voice. However, it doesn't seem to work. I plugged in a regular microphone in both the mic and guitar input and it seemed to work. Am I missing something? I have set audio-in to fast track in both systems preference and garageband preference. The output remained built-in because my speakers are plugged into my desktop. I also tried output using the fasttrack and plugged my speakers into the fast track's interface and the my old microphone also worked ok. Is it my newly purchased m-audio nova microphone that is not working?
    Thanks.

Sorry about that, the regular mic is not the m-audio, it has an on/off switch. I am not familiar with audio gear terms, I apologize that. When I plug this mic in, it works in both the guitar input and the mic input on the usb interface (m-audio fast track). I can also plug this mic into a guitar amp. I hope that makes sense. Even when I plug it into my G5, it works, although I use an adaptor for the plug (same size as a headphone jack).

  • Recording with a mic in garageband (macbook pro)

I used to plug a mic into an adapter, then into my old macbook's input jack. However, my new macbook pro doesn't have a spot for the same jack. Will I need a new adapter? If so what kind and where does it plug in?

Under sound settings and input I have it set to "Line in", and under audio in I have it set to "sound input" When I switch it to "sound output" whatever music I'm listening to comes out of the mic, so I know the mic isn't the issue, but still no audio going in.

  • Need help recording with mic.

I'm trying to use a usb MicLink by Alesis, with my Electro-Voice PL20, the sound is great...except for this audible hissing that is always in the background...I put the mic in a case full of pillows and the hiss is still there...If I turn the mid-high down on both ends of the visual eq I can almost eliminate the hiss...but then the sound is weird....If I do manage to get a balance when i go to turn it up the hiss becomes audible again. I am plugging the usb straight into my computer. I just don't get what is up...the built in mic on my MBP is crisp and clear...and almost better quality than my 50 dollar adapter and several hundred dollar mic. Is there a way to eq the hiss away...because right now I feel like all I'm doing is making it quiet enough I cant hear it so messing with the gain or the visual eq wont do much because I'm just fixing the problem for the one sound level...if I want it louder than I'm out of luck. This is a radio style mic...so it might just have too high mids and highs but i'm not sure....i'm new to recording so please explain your answers and don't just techie babble. What I wan't is clear sound with silence when I'm not speaking, this is for narrations in a play, and I want them to not have the "old phonograph" feel, of a needle scratching across the surface of vinyl. If I was doing a retro show it might be ok...but I just want crisp clear sound......stupid not having thousands to buy a good studio. LOL.

  • Does anyone know yet if the new iPad will support a USB microphone plugged into Garageband via iPad's USB Camera Adapter?

    Hi,
I've ordered a new iPad 64Gb which will arrive early April. My hobby is making music, so does anyone know yet if the new iPad (3rd generation) will support a USB microphone plugged into Garageband via iPad's USB Camera Adapter? I am hoping to use such a portable setup to record live performances of voice & acoustic instrument.
    Thank you,
    John.

When in doubt, try it out. I bought the Apple camera connection kit & used it to connect my Blue Snowball usb mic to my new iPad 3rd generation. It works just fine. I made some test recordings in GarageBand on my iPad 3 using my Snowball mic. They sound great.

my itunes will not open at all. it occasionally will open but when i plug my iphone into it the program freezes and crashes. please help as soon as possible

i think i might have a solution... i have windows vista and after i installed to latest itunes update everytime i tried to open it it would freeze. I tried everything, including uninstalling itunes and all of its components and reinstalled it numerous times. So i went to the itunes folder in my folders, not on itunes, and i deleted my itunes library and playlists. After that it worked just fine, all of my music was deleted but luckily i had my files saved elsewhere.
I hope this helped! I know its frustrating and APPLE/ITUNES NEED TO FIX THE PROBLEM!!!!

Antivirus has a tendency to freeze iTunes sync Operation with iPod Classic, causing a timeout, which corrupt your iPod filesystem, so when iTunes can't read the iPod, it is pointing to this problem. Other causes is when your iPod hardisk is dying, or your battery is dying causing hardisk crashes.
    My suggestion.
Connect your iPod to the PC and run chkdsk, to fix any iPod diskerror, then disconnect it, after chkdsk complete.
Disconnect your PC from Internet. (just to make sure no nasties creep into your system while you syncing.
    Stop the Antivirus program
Connect your Ipod to the PC
When iTunes Open up, Restore your iPod please, this is for iTunes to map correctly, to fix the corrupted filesystem.
When Restore complete, eject the iPod and reconnect again.
Sync your ipod, preferably manually Manage in small batches and disconnect after every batch, to check that all is well, since you got such a huge library.
When all sync is complete, and iPod disconnected, start back your Antivirus and connect back the Internet.
If this doesn't resolve your problem, then let me know.
    Good Luck!

Every time I switch on the iPhone, the iTunes icon is displayed together with a USB icon and Emergency call message appears on the screen in many languages. When I touch the i symbol I get the following information IMEI: **** AND ICCID: ****
However, the iphone is visible in the Devices directory in iTunes. I changed my SIM card but still can not be recognized by the iPhone.
