HELP!!! PLZ iPod broken!!!! PLZ

My iPod Nano has broken i think because it wont turn on even though i left it on charge through a ac charger al night, it's not recongnized both of the computers that i have tried i have tried it on both Vista and XP. Then when it is recognized(only for 2 mins maximum) a message appears which is saying that my iPod Nano needs to be formated then disappears, so i went onto "my computer" and clicked format on my ipod. Does anyone know what i can do now?
I have an ipod nano 3rd generation, and I got the exact same problem this morning. I have not reformated yet.
I seems YOu have to let it alone for 24 hours !!!

You said you updated yur 1G iPod to 4.2.1. A 1G can only go to 3.1.3 and thus you must have jailbroken it to get to 4.2.1 and that can cause problems.

- First see if resetting the iPod will make it visible in iTunes so you can restore the iPod.

With the iPod hooked up, I would try putting the iPod into [Disk Mode|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363] to help the iPod stay powered on and mounted in Windows "My Computer" as an external drive. If you are able to get it to stay mounted, I would attempt to reformat the iPod using the tools provided by Windows, and then [Restoring|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1339] the iPod via iTunes.

You can't. It is a good security feature. You have to connect the iPod to yur computer and restore via iTunes.

ok so when i try to play my songs on itunes no matter where it was downloaded from (itunes or another source) it wont play. it will act like it was going to play and then freeze at 00:00. i tried re-installing it and deleting my itunes library and putting it back on but nothing has worked. my sound is fine because it makes that noise when i turn on the computer and such. help plz.

- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.

You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.
