This device is not eligible for the requested build: Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194." If you receive this alert, update to the latest version of iTunes. Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, follow Troubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. First you must uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer, then edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from the hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect.  For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart. Also, using an older or modified .ipsw file can cause this issue. Try moving the current .ipsw file, or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.

    Hello Amber,
I would be concerned too if my iPod was not recognized by iTunes.  I found a couple of articles that might help with this.
If you don't see your iPod in the My Computer or Computer section of Windows, follow the steps in this article:

  • IPod Shuffle not recognized by computer

iTunes keeps telling me that my shuffle is not fomatted properly and I have to restore. But even after restoring, I still keep getting the same error message. What can I do?

    Hi JBR,
Go to your control panel and click on Install/Uninstall programs. Scroll down and see if you have multiple versions of the ipod updater installed on your computer. If you do, then uninstall both versions. Reboot your computer.
Next, go to the downloads page and download/install the 1-10-2006 ipod updater. Once installed, go to your start programs and select ipod updater from there. Plug in your ipod and wait a moment. If it's like mine, it'll recognize your ipod and then you can do a "restore" for a clean format.
After that, open itunes and life should be good.
    Hope this helps!

  • IPOD Shuffle not recognized by computer, and caused a  USB power surge

Device is not recognized by computer, and I tried the listed support recommendations.
The problem originated when I plugged the IPOD shuffle directly into the computer USB ( not using a hub), and this caused a warning window to appear saying unknown device has caused a power surge to this port, and most be removed. Prior to this event, the IPOD shuffle has worked (with direct contact with computer usb or through a powered highspeed usb hub) without issue for nearly 1 year. Any taker's on this issue? Thanks.

  • Ipod does not respond to computer/Itunes, but reboots constantly.

I have been using the same Ipod since 2/14/2006 (Black 30GB-5th Generation). Never had any problems with it at all.
About 4 days ago, I updated to the latest version of Itunes (Ver 7.6.2.9.) and I have been having problems with my Ipod ever since. Everytime I connect my Ipod to the dock/computer to sync, it turns off by itself immediately and keeps rebooting over and over by itself when connected. My Ipod is not able to establish a connection with my computer or Itunes.
I have read other recent threads in regards to similar issues, namely "low battery" or a sad Ipod face, but I haven't had either appear on my Ipod yet. I have put Ipod in Disk mode and plugged it in with a full battery to no success, I have rebooted OVER 50 times in the past 48 hours. The battery is well charged and has not given me any issues, I changed the battery on the Ipod 2 months ago, but it never affected anything. I am able to charge the Ipod fully with my standard AC Charger. At first I thought it was that my computer was not giving enough power to my Ipod, but according to the other posts I read, that is not the case.
In addition, If by chance not enough power is the problem, how can I put more power in my Ipod when it is plugged into the USB port? Why did it change all of a sudden? Most dual AC Power Adaptor USB ports for Ipod have a firewire prong, but I do not have a firewire outlet in my computer to plug in. Can I connect the computer to AC power adaptor and then to Ipod docking station?
I have tried connecting Ipod to another USB port, no success either.
Help! Troubleshooting this on my own has taken its toll. I tried everything!

When i said reboot, I meant "restarts my Ipod".
I tried installing driver to no success. What could be wrong? My Ipod just doesn't communicate with my computer since the latest Itunes was installed.

  • HELP! Ipod sync not performing properly. What can I do?

Yesterday, when I clicked my Itunes icon on my desktop a message came up about some kind of update. Itunes was going to be loading new formats and I was asked if I wanted to keep files sorted. I clicked yes and then continue. I noticed it was doing all kinds of crazy stuff, so I stopped it. Now, I have songs missing, album artwork missing, songs that were supposed to be deleted are back, songs won't play all the way through on my ipod, and MOST annoying of all my ipod is not synching properly. It will get stuck synching random tracks and will just stay synching that one track forever. When I unchecked the songs the ipod was getting stuck on, it synched OK for one disc I'd uploaded. The next time I tried to synch something (5 seconds later) it got stuck. So I stopped the synch, unchecked the tracks and tried again. Now, no matter what, the moment I connect my ipod and try to synch it, it says synch complete. I'm pretty adept at Itunes. Everything is selected and deselected properly. These are not tracks I've downloaded, they're physical, actual discs (not burned discs). I've reset my ipod (holding the center and menu button) I've uploaded, unloaded, deleted, restarted, re-uploaded, checked, unchecked... everything I can possibly think of. I've tried to goole it and can find fairly similar situations, but how do you type just a few keywords into a search engine to explain all of this? Can anyone out there help me understand what may be going on? This is a HUGE pain. I really want to contact Apple about it, but I feel like I'm jumping through hoops of fire to find any decent contact information that doesn't include some fee for having my stuff fixed. I just want someone to talk this out with me. I'm fairly handy with a computer. If I can just get some additional troubleshooting options I may be able to work the problem out if it's easily fixable.

Good job explaining what has happened. That makes it much easier.
Although I am no expert, I surmise that by canceling the update, this left your library's data file "screwed up" for lack of a better phrase.
    Here's what I would do:
    1. Locate the location of your music on your system. It usually defaults to the C: drive under Music. Write down the file path if you need to, or remember where it is. If you don't know where it is, open Itunes, go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced and copy the file path that is in "Itunes Media folder location" field.
1.5. Go to File > Export Playlist and follow the prompts, if you can. PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU IF YOU CANNOT EXPORT YOUR PLAYLISTS, IF YOU CONTINUE THIS PROCESS YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO RETRIEVE THEM, AND WILL HAVE TO REBUILD THEM. (Also, note, you will not be deleting any songs or albums in your library, but the playlists are tied to the files discussed below).
    2. Close Itunes.
    3. Using explorer or by navigating into your C: drive either paste the file path that you copied earlier into the address bar or type it in if you wrote it down.
    a. Within your library, (it may be up a directory or two, like in the one that starts with a folder "Automatically Add to Itunes") locate these files (use search as needed):
    Itunes Library Extras
    Itunes Library Genius
Itunes Library (the Itunes Database File)
    Itunes Library (the XML file)
    Itunes Music Library (XML file)
    b. Select all these files by either control-clicking or shift-clicking.
    c. Copy all the files by right clicking and selecting Copy.
    d. Navigate to your desktop.
    e. Create a new folder on your desktop by right clicking and selecting New, then Folder.
    f. Name the folder Itunes Library Backup.
    g. Open the folder.
    h. Click once inside the empty folder and then right click and select Paste.
The above listed files should now be copied to the backup folder on your desktop.
    4. Go back to your explorer page and reselect all the files above, and then delete them. (This is why you backed them up).
    5. Uninstall Itunes.
    6. Restart your computer.
    7. Download and install the latest version of Itunes.
    8. Launch Itunes. You're starting with a fresh copy of Itunes, so it will appear that you have no music. However if you keep your music in the default Itunes music location it will most likely add the music automatically.
    9. If Itunes does not add any music, or asks to create a new library, tell it yes.
    10. If you use a different location for the Itunes music library go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced and enter the file path of your library from earlier.
    11. Finally, if you have no music in your library, in Itunes, go to File > Add Folder to Library, and then navigate to your library location. Depending on the size of your library it may take a few minutes to re-add everything.
    12. Sync your Ipod.
I hope that helps. Let us know if you were successful in recreating your library.

  • Need Help - My iPod can not detect on PC and can not be Formated

    Dear All,
    I really need your help..
My Classic iPod 120 GB suddenly got hang when playing a song, then I tried to restart it with pressing SELECT+MENU together as usual. After that, all songs were not detected on my iPod, but when I checked the size on the Setting>About, all songs were marked as Other, not as Audio.
After that, I want to format+restore my iPod on my PC, but when the Format got started, my PC suddenly hang (this was because there's a problem on my PC's HDD, but now thanks God it's already been settled). When I tried to format it once again, it got stuck for very long time just when I right-clicked the iPod on "My Computer", and when I checked checked the size on the Setting>About, it mentioned 0 KB free and 0 kb Used . When I tried to opened in iTunes, it did not detected and iTunes got hang, even after I re-installed it and use the newest version.
Is there anyway to save my iPod???
    Thank you for the attention,
    Rio

    Hi Rio,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your iPod is not detected and iTunes is unresponsive when you connect it, I recommend starting with the troubleshooting steps in this article:

  • Please help! Ipod touch not turning on :(

okay, i have a Ipod touch 5th gen, had it a couple months now. this morning i put my ipod in its normal place- a draw, and no one could have been on it. when i get home however it's dead. i thought it needed to charge so i plugged it in, i left it for a few minuets but it still didnt turn on! I now have it plugged to my laptop and its not being recognised at all. i've pressed the home button to try and turn it on but nothing is happening! i havent done anything for it to brake please help!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    Hi,
If there is no light on the front of the iPod shuffle when connected to the computer, try in another USB port.
Check for the front status light and battery status light when it is not connected to the computer.
If you have determined that there are no lights then send the iPod shuffle for service at http://depot.info.apple.com/ipodshuffle/
