HELP PLZ!!! MY 40gb Zen Xtra Wont Turn O

I have had my Zen Xtra for about 0 months now. It was working fine just last night, but now today it doesn't even turn on. Is the battery dead because i always have it recharging? I don't know what to do, i don't want to lose all of my music.Message Edited by apexi303 on 0-3-2005 09:22 PM

Just to answer that specific question, it's not bad for the player and shouldn't cause any problem.

Nomad Zen Xtra wont boot up

my Nomad Zen Xtra wont boot up. It starts up, gets to the EAX screen, and then just hangs. I've tried the reset button, but it always just hangs at the EAX start up screen. I dont want to lose all my music files.any ideas?

I have resolved ALL of my problems. What a nightmare!
I think this is what I did (but my recollection is poor since I tried so many things).
Install Windows Media Player v and all updates. However, the WMP is crap as an organizer and full of software bugs, so don't waste time trying to organize your Nomad. Windows Media Player is hopeless. WMP also mucks up many filenames on your computer by "intelligently" renaming them! What a disaster!
I then downloaded and installed [color="#ff0000"]Creative MediaSource 5. Nothing else works. Remove all previous versions. Do not install Nomad Explorer of any kind, it will install bad drivers and still continues to report?that your Nomad is not connected, even though it is. Make sure it is off your computer and don't install any new version.
My Nomad is version 2.0.03, using an old 60Gb laptop dri've.
Media Source 5 recognizes the Nomad and allows you to sync files fine. However, before connecting to the Nomad make sure you configure your default music library etc. to stop it scouring your computer for music files. And backup your library first of all.
Using MediaSource 5 is slightly different than before. It is difficult to figure in which direction things are synchronizing, but apart from that it should work for you. I'm just glad to be able to use the Nomad again.
Use Nero to rip, not MediaSource.

What site did you buy it from? You should be able to print off a valid receipt, as long as it's not an auction site like eBay.

Plz Help... My iPod wont turn on...

ok heres the problem... today I wake up all happy and stuff but when I go to pick up my iPod to listen to music it wont turn on. it just shows the sad iPod icon and a link to support. I already tried the 5 steps and trying to startup in diskmode. it just shows the low battery sign. i have tried everything apple tells me to do so do u people have any suggestions?

This is definetely an issue with your iPod's hard drive. It may need to be replaced. but before that, try these links:
iPod won't turn on
iPod displays a sad iPod icon

If these things didn't solve the issue, it may very well be that you will need to get your iPod's hard drive replaced.

A small problem with my Zen Xtra 60 turned into a bigger problem. Help me save it

What started as a small problem has grown to a big mess. My Zen xtra 60 GB unit started going to "Rebuilding Library" often. With 5000 Wma's on it, this rebuild was taking 30 minutes. So what I attempted to fix with reloading firmware to recognize the new Windows Media Player version, has left me with a dead unit.
I have followed many of the solutions, that have been able to fix other peoples units, but to no avail. While my computer sees the unit, none of the firmware loads will see the player. I fixed what was said in the register. Went through the 4 options of the "Rescue Mode" on the player, followed several of the knowledge notes on procedures, including hooking unit up to a new Dell Laptop. Exactly the same problem happens on a different computer.
I guess my first step is to get the computer to see the MP3 player when I run a firmware install.
Tell me what to do to save my little player.

I've had a similar experience, but to a degree. I've found that if I don't use my <EM>40GB</EM> Zen Xtra for more than one day the player will "re-build" the library... but in my case once the library has been re-built it plays just fine; none of my songs or memory are lost.
Why does the player have to "re-build" the library if the player is not used for a period of time?

i haven't listened to my mp3 player in about 6 months and when i turned it on, i found this firmware problem, when i took all the steps to fix it i realized i dont have the installation cd. is there any place where i can buy or download the installation cd? it wont let me finish adding the new firmware without it.
I have already deleted my old firmware like it said, so now when i turn it on it just goes to the rescue mode with the four options.

If you go to www.nomadworld.com you can download the drivers and applications for the Zen xtra so that you can reload the firmware.

MY 40gb Zen xtra is wigg

All right, i have had my player for a year now. But just recently my "play" button has stopped working. It appears to be jammed. If i press in the button hard my player shuts down. When i turn the power back on, my player freezes. Things have gotten much worse in the past weeks, every time i turn my Zen Xtra on it freezes, or reboots then freezes. It also has a tendency to shut down by itself for no reason. Does anyone have the same problem, or a solution? Remember, the play/pause button is jammed so i cant reboot into the safe mode to erase my firmwire (.20.8). Any help what so ever, such as a repair location or home-made "remadies" would be greatly appreciated.

I have a problem with my Touch "back" button....sometimes it just likes to activate the "random mode" that is SOOO anoyying! I think it's a hardware problem....OUCHIEWOUCHIE

40GB Zen Xtra-WILL charge in vehicle, but not in house

Alright, I've searched theknowledge base, read posts for half a day, and still have not found this particular twist on this problem. So, I'm gonna post a NEW one! As I said in the subject line, I have a (quote from the upper left corner of my unit) NOMAD JUKEBOX Zen Xtra, a 40 Gb model, aproximately 2 years old, been returned for hard dri've replacement once. It will no longer charge with a wall charger. I have 2 chargers,(as they sent me another when I had my unit serviced) and neither will charge my Xtra. I've tried other brands of uni'versal chargers, still no luck. However, it WILL charge using a uni'versal charger plugged into the cigarette lighter in my vehicle! The only setting it will charge my Xtra on is at 4.5 volts, so I don't get a full charge. Why they didn't make ALL mp3 players charge with the USB cable is beyond me! Any suggestions, ideas, even sympathy will be appreciated!

Obviously it has been like two years!!!
What is the point in there being a support group if most of the really big problems occur after the warranty.

Zen micros wont turn

can anyone help ? i have 2 new zen micros , charged both , one turned on is working fine. the other displayed creative zen micros corparation, and thats all it will do . wont turn off .i have to take the battery out. put it does the same thing . now the screen is just blank

Go into rescue mode and run a disk cleanup.
If this won't work the player is faulty and you need to get it replaced.

Today I let my friend listen to my Zen Xtra 40 GB MP3 player and he said "he didnt listen to it all day." at the end of the day he called me and told me it didnt work so he gave it back to me and now when i turn it on it says creative and than goes to the eax screen stays there for about idk for about a minute or two and than from there it goes to rescue mode...can somebody please help me out?

Sounds like the hard disk is failing to talk to the player. You can try the advice here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net at your OWN RISK.
If this doesn't help, or you don't wish to try it and you are under warranty, then contact Creative Support.

My Zen Xtra wont start or cha

I paused my mp3 player and set it down. When I returned two minutes later it was frozen and I couldn't unpause it or do anything. So I removed the batery to reset it. I've always been able to turn it on again afterwards. But this time it wouldn't start up. I tried charging it, and the little charge sign doesn't even appear. It's totaly dead. Was the batery somehow drained or something? That's the only thing I could think of. Is the screen not working? I've had it for about 3 years now. So I think it's just time for a new battery. Don't you guys think that this is the case? I've never had any problems with it before of any kind. Please help me. Thank you.

I have a very similar problem, but my Zen Xtra is just about 2 /2 months old.
First off, it has a bit of a history of crashing. It would crash about once every couple days until I upgraded to the latest firmware. Not one single crash since then. Until yesterday...
Last night, I was listening to music on it with it sitting on my desk, running on battery power. Battery was about /2 full by the battery indicator. Suddenly, it skipped to a different part of the song and the screen was all black. I took out the battery and put it back in and it hasn't powered up at all since.
The reset button does nothing. I can't reset or enter Rescue Mode.
It won't power up at all with the AC adaptor with or without the battery in. I emailed tech support at about 3 AM and got a reply before 2 PM the next day. (EXCELLENT turnaround time, Creative!) They thought the battery was dead and recommended plugging it in for 2 hours, then inserting the battery. I'm trying that, though I doubt the diagnosis is correct, as it should usually be able to start up without the battery in. Also, my multimeter tells me that battery has a steady 3.82 volts, and that when plugged in, the player is supplying 4.5 volts to the battery terminals. I admit, I haven't been too good about draining the battery lately, but that shouldn't cause it to refuse to turn on when it's plugged in.
I've ruled out the possibility that it comes on but the screen is blank. I don't hear any hard disk chatter and it doesn't play music.
I'm pretty sure it isn't bad data in RAM. I let it sit with no power overnight. This would have wiped RAM.
I know it's getting power and powering the charging circuit because of the voltage across the charging terminals. None of the buttons does anything. I suspect the hardware is b0rked. Fortunately, it's still under warranty. I hope they'll be able to transfer the hard disk to the replacement if I need to send it back, as I have no backup of most of the Data Library and I don't look forward to re-ripping lots of CDs.

My Zen (4gb) wont turn

I just got my Zen (4gb), but it won't turn on.
I charged it as it said in the manual, installed the tools from the CD, but nearly nothing is happening. The screen turns white, but then it turns gray (as it's shutting down). The things is, when I connect it to the computer, I can copy music to it, but still, it wont turn on!?

you should have installed the software first (before plugging in your player).
when you were charging it for the first time, was it working normally (i.e. you've seen the red wallpaper etc.)?

Hello, can someone please help me ASAP!!! I am trying to repair this Motorola droid x2 mb870 for a friend of mine, they have very important pictures on it that they cannot get them off of it and i am not too familiar with this phone but what is happening is when i plug it in to my computer.. the green light lights up and stays a solid green. Nothing comes up on the screen, as if its not turning on, i try to hold the power button down but it wont turn on. Yikes! I'm very sorry to hear that the device you are working on is causing such problems. I understand the importance of having a properly functioning device. When it comes to the listed details of the battery exploding, the device more than likely has physical damage or corrosion causing the non power issue. Does the user of the device have insurance? If so, they may be able to file an insurance claim by visiting http://bit.ly/07CrqPK Also, have the user confirmed if they are eligible for upgrade by dialing #UPG?
