HELP PLZ: NEO2-FR 4GB 1066 Ram probs

Hello All. I need some help with a memory issue that I just cannot figure out. Once I configure my OC'd Quad Core CPU and 4gb of ram and actually get them running, I cannot turn off the computer and have it reboot successfully - and its not a CMOS battery problem. I used to be able to do this for the last year or more.
So I have 4gb of OCZ 1066 Ram in my MSI-7345 motherboard. I have a Q6600 quad core CPU. My motherboard bios is up to date (1.10). I'm well aware of how to overclock my CPU, and the requirement that I overclock the ram to get it running up to speed (I run it at about 1030 now...).
The problem I am having occurs when I power off the computer.
To begin with, this board is a real pain to get the 4gb of memory to even post. I can get it to work now, but its an annoying process of booting up three sticks (which always works), loading default settings, reboot, then I have to power off the computer mid-post (thats a trick I had to learn through trial and error), click in the fourth stick, and then it will go ahead and boot all four sticks, overclocked and everything. But, if I ever turn off the computer for more than a few minutes, it will not successfully post again. It did not used to do this.
(Are other boards this fickle with 4gb? Its such a pain that I'd happily spending money on a new MB if I could avoid this problem.)
Once its running, PRIME95 torture test, and MEMTEST v. 3.4 show all is well - no errors, my computer doesn't crash, its fine. I can leave it on all day running these things with no problems. So, I tentatively conclude, my memory itself is OK.
The problem is if I turn off the computer for any period of time longer than a few minutes (and basically always if I pull the plug for a minute or more before putting it back in), the board will not post. The error lights show a memory problem, OR, sometimes, a CPU problem - and sometimes it switches between the two. If I run through the process of setting up the four sticks to work, I can get it working again.
My computer did not used to do this. I had it configured to shut down for 10 minutes every morning before powering back up - and it was fine - and I want to still do this.
I recently RMA'd 2 sticks back to OCZ because one stick wouldn't post if it was the only stick installed - I assumed it was bad. BUT, of the sticks I got back, still, one won't post on its own, but it WILL post along with the others...and I get no errors when I run MEMTEST or PRIME95...
I don't think OCZ will allow another RMA of the same sticks - they'll think I don't know what I am doing and that I am breaking them - plus, as I said, I CAN get them all to boot, just I cannot get the computer to re-power up.
Any ideas? If you need more info from me, just ask.
Lastly, can somebody explain how I go about trying to flash an older version of the bios (1.8) when I don't have a floppy drive? Thank you for any help!
STATS:
CPU: Intel Q6600 G0 stepping (was running at 2.95 for a year - but with this recent problem, I step it back a bit, but it has no impact)
Motherboard: MSI-7345 (Neo2-fr)
Memory: 2 OCZ 1gb @ 5-5-5-15 / 2 OCZ 1gb @ 5-5-5-18 (I manually set the timing to 5-5-5-18 and the voltage to 2.3)
Video Card: GeForce 7900GT
Hard Drive: 320gb Western Digital
OS: Windows XP SP3 32bit
Power Supply: OCZ 700W

*deleted* - sorry, I reverted to BIOS v. 1.7, and thought that fixed it. But further testing shows it did not.

  • Why is my Macbook Pro Running So Slow. I have the i7 2.8 GHz. I Have the Late 2011 version. I Have 4GB Of Ram. Help!

I have a 2.8 GHz Macbook Pro with 4GB of Ram and also it's the Late 2011 version. It's also a i7. ALSO IT HAS 750GB, Why is my Mac Running SLOW!!!!!!!!

Frankly, I was dissapointed when I got my MBP last year.  Moving from a single core, windows laptop with 2GB of Ram and an IDE HD, I expected better performance from my new 2.2Ghz i7 quad core, 4GB RAM MBP. I got the hi-res antiglare upgrade because more screen real estate is always good.  I do a bit of multimedia work so I upgraded the HD as well to the 750GB 7200 RPM option.
I fired up my new mac, downloaded updates, loaded up my software and was off to fresh new beginnings. During the first week  I started seeing the "spinning umbrella"  Even during simple tasks. With only a few apps open the system was sluggish. Even the dock would jitter. Being a bit tech savy I opened up the activity monitor and saw that the system was running low on RAM. Who would have thought that 4GB of RAM would not be enough? My previous machine had 2GB of RAM and did the same tasks quite reasonably. Anyone would have concluded that a machine with double that would perform better. Aparrently not. At least not this MBP.  I was so upset because I just spent about 2000 USD for the "best laptop we've build to date" WITH UPGRADES! and I'm going to have to spend more to upgrade the RAM.
Anyway I upgraded to 8GB of RAM and runs reall really smooth now.
My suggestion if your MBP is running slow, is to upgrade your RAM to 8GB or more. Check out the guys at Other World Computing, they have lots of upgrades for macs.
    Here is a link http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade
The hard  truth cut through all the marketing and hit me. I'll say it this way; a computer is a computer, is a computer. Forget all the hype. With the same specs, a mac gives just sbout the same performance as a PC. That said, I really love my MBP(now that I have 8GB of RAM). This mac gives me the best computing experience I have ever had. Apple really shines in their User interface and user experience. I really love the gestures and hot corners, and mission control. I usually have a lot of apps open the same time, so those features really help in switching between my apps.
I'm going to further upgrade my RAM to 16GB and upgrade the HDD to an SSD pretty soon. I want my machine to be really snappy.
    I hope this was helpful.

Wow, thank you, what an awesome little tool!
So, I found that these 2 RAM products are compatible with my laptop:
    Part Number: CT758799
    Module Size: 2GB
    Package: 200-pin SODIMM
    Feature: DDR2 PC2-6400
    Specs: DDR2 PC2-6400 • CL=6 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-800 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64 •
    Part Number: CT699699
    Module Size: 2GB
    Package: 200-pin SODIMM
    Feature: DDR2 PC2-5300
    Specs: DDR2 PC2-5300 • CL=5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-667 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64 •
I then went to a well-known auction site and found RAM cards from the same manufacturer with exactly the same specs as above but with different Part numbers. Does it have to be the exact part number or do I stand a good chance of it working if it has the required spec? I searched for the exact part numbers and yielded 0 results.
Thanks for all your help on this.

  • Need Help with Memory OC to 1066 on P35 Platinum Combo

    Hi,
I've been trying to get my Corsair Dominator memory to 1066, but everytime I change settings, the system will not post. So far I've:
    - Disabled EIST & DOT
    - Disabled 'Configure DRAM Timing by SPD' and set values to 5-5-5-15 (left all others as is)
    - Processor reports 333x9
    - Set ratio to 1:1.6.7 bringing adjusted timings to 1109. I also have 1:1.2 for 1332 & 1:1.50 for 999
    - Memory voltage set to 2.1
Not sure where to go from here as other MS reported here seem to have different settings than the P35 Platinum Combo.
    Specs are:
    - Intel E8400 3.0GHz Dual Core (45nm)
    - MSI P35 Platinum Combo
    - Sapphire Radeon HD 3870 512MB GDDR4
    - Xigmatek NRP-MC651 650W Modular PSU
    - Corsair Dominator 4GB 1066 DDR2 RAM (PC2 8500)
    - Samsung 22X DVD Burner
    - Lexa Blackline Case
Any advice welcome -- I'm at a loss.

  • Will logic pro x run on my mac mini dual core intel i5 with 4gb of ram and mountain lion ?

    hi there guys,
will logic pro x run on my mac mini dual core intel i5 with 4gb of ram and mountain lion ?
I'm not sure if my machine is 64 bit - it is the current model base mac mini.
Many thanks for any help you can offer !
    Simon

SkiJumptoes is right. 4GB is not enough to comfortably run Logic X.
Your Mac Mini will need DDR3 SODIMM RAM. That website seems incredibly steep though. I guess that's the price of finding it for you. You're better off going to any below:

  • IMovie 09 uses up 4GB of RAM in less than 2 minutes

    Hi,
The topic says it all i think..
To be honest i don't know if i had this issue before Snow Leopard i have only been using it for about a week. I have a MacBook Pro (Early 2008) 2.6GHz with 4GB RAM installed. I have never had any issues with the RAM being used up this fast before ever (and i'm a pretty heavy photoshop user and gamer).
With just a simple project and little events i make a short clip, some transitions and a background tune. Then i minimize iMovie to check my Mail or another app and notice the mac became horribly slow and minimizing takes a good minute. Then i check Activity Monitor and iStat Pro to find within just a few minutes i not only used up 4GB of RAM but only am well into 4GB Swap File usage, i need to restart to turn my Mac back into the fast Mc it was before i started iMovie.
Before writing this i did a few tests with garageband and a couple of other apps including Adobe Suite etc... i still have a little over 2GB RAM free. Then i start iMovie, open my project and mess around a little.... wham, RAM gone, is this what's known as a memory leak ?
Any thoughts on this? I started experimenting / learning iMovie because i have a wedding DVD to make soon, i need this software to work right.
    Thanks in advance
    Jay

MPEG2 and AVCHD are two different codecs. Your footage will be one or the other, but not both. MPEG2 is used more often in standard definition cameras.
Having said that, your memory problem is unusual. iMovie uses a lot of memory, and if you are constrained on memory, it uses swap files. However, mine has never used up 4GB of real memory in 2 minutes. It looks like you have a memory leak somewhere (which could be a bug in iMovie).
I don't know how to find it since I can't replicate it on my system.
One thing that may help you monitor this is the free application called [MemoryStick|http://www.tidbits.com/matt>. You can install it and monitor your swapfiles real time. You can also see how much real memory and virtual memory iMovie is using at the moment through Activity Monitor (which I presume you are already doing.)
With MemoryStick, if I notice that I have 5,6, or 7 swapfiles going, and they are over 2GB (they have been as high as 4GB) then I know it is time to re-boot.

  • Is 4gb of RAM would be enough for AE CS5?

Hi  guys, I have a problem that bothers me sometime. I have 4gb of RAM  running 64bit windows 7 and I use a lot of heavy programs like after  effects, 3ds max, CAD, photoshop, etc. Is 4gb enough for my computer or  should I increase my RAM? Please somebody help me, any suggestion would  be appreciated. Thank you

4GB is enough to run After Effects, but it's far from the optimum amount. It's an especially low amount if you'll be running any other programs at the same time.
It depends on what kind of work you're doing. Let's say that you'll be working with HD video and maybe 2K film. In that case, you'd ideally have 3GB installed per processor core. So, if you have a four-coure computer (which has eight processor cores with hyperthreading), you'd have 24GB of RAM. That's exactly how my home computer is set up. If you're working with 4K film, you'd have more RAM; for SD TV, you could have less.
See this page for some information about memory settings and performance:

  • 4Gb of RAM @ 400

(Note:  I've read and searched on this forum... and didnt find definitive answers.  Very fine community you have in here; lot of useful information!   )
I'm buying a Neo2 and I really need 2Gb of RAM right now.   I assume that next year; i'll need more... so I'll upgrade then to 4Gb.
Right now, I would buy 2x1Gb DDR3200 DIMMs ; and then... fill the remaining two slots later.
But... the manual says we cant use 4 double-sided DIMMs at DDR400 speeds.
Are there good 1Gb single-sided DIMMs out there?
I dont plan to overclock; I just want a stable and efficient system!
[ I'm thinking of the "OCZ4002048PFDC-K PERFORMANCE SERIES DUAL CHANNEL PC3200 2x1Gb" ... because it seems good ram.  but i'm no expert!  And I cant know if its single/double sided ]

Thank you Mr. Foster.  I thought that was what protected mode meant at least as far as I the user is concerned.  I assume, though perhaps wrongly, that you have actively take the machine out of protected mode and that the default is to be in protected mode when you install the software, at least as far as windows XP and windows 2003 server are concerned.  I believe linux handles memory protection somewhat differently (and different linux flavors handle memory management differently as well), but they still separate some amount of memory for the OS only and that you have to circumvent that deliberately to undo it.
The long and short of all this is that, in general, windows does not allow access to all of the system RAM to the user unless the user actively undoes the safety precautions that are built into windows to protect the OS from being crashed or altered by poorly written or malicious code.  If you believe that you really need 4GB of RAM for your application, you should look into windows 64bit or linux64.

  • More than 4GB of RAM in iMac 8,1 under Snow Leopard

    Greetings,
I have an iMac 8.1, running under Snow Leopard in 64bits mode (i.e. kernel is in 64 bits). I am wondering if I can install - and use - more than 4GB of RAM now that my iMac is booting in 64bits mode?
    Thank you for your help!

"32 bits mode" does not limit Mac OS X to 4GB or 6GB. Mac Pros could go up to 32GB of RAM, even when they were first introduced with Tiger (10.4) as the OS.
The current iMacs use the 32-bit kernel by default (to maintain compatibility with third-party extensions that have not been upgraded yet). However, it is fully capable of running 64-bit processes (system processes and applications) and using as much RAM as the Mac in question is capable of using, whether that is 4GB, 6GB, 8GB, 16GB, or 32GB.
So to summarize, the RAM limit is based on the hardware, not the software. This isn't like Windows, where 32-bit Windows has a usable RAM limit of somewhere between 3 and 4GB.
