Help! Poorly rendered paint brush scribbles at 1 point width

I have a graphics tablet (Wacom DTU-1631) hooked up to my Mac and I'm using it in Illustrator to capture handwriting and drawings during presentations (the Mac's screen is being projected onto a wall and the idea is to not use a whiteboard). I am using the paintbrush tool set for a 100% round brush size of 1 point within an 8.5x11 document. I put the pen on the tablet's screen and as I write cursively I clearly see my handwriting being faithfully reproduced. However once I lift the pen, Illustrator seems to increase the thickness of my writing to the extent that lower case e's and o's often completely fill in their enclosed loops. I zoomed in on those mal-formed characters and it surely looks like Illustrator is doing a very poor job rendering the resultant paths. I wish I could post a picture of it! I try the same thing in e.g. InkScape and it works just fine. If I select a bigger brush size it forces me to obviously write bigger and then the bad path rendering effect rapidly diminishes, but I want/need to use a size of about 1-point and 2-point is too big. Anybody know if this is a bug or if it's pilot error at my end?

Just got into work and checking email. I'm very impressed by the amount of assistance being offered in these forums!
Anyway, I'll try to answer all questions posed so far:
The tablet I'm using is a Wacom DTU-1631 (it's GREAT)
http://www.wacom.com/pendisplays/DTU1631-technical-specifications.php
I agree that at first glance it seems I'm doing tiny writing on an 8.5x11 page, but 1 point is still about the right size after printing. Not much different to the line thicknesses of regular readable text. While drawing on the tablet I'm zoomed in to about 1/3 of a page and navigate up and down via scroll bars.
The stroke width I have selected is 1 point. I have the fill set to invisible so that a drawn squiggle doesn't visually turn into a closed shape filled with some color. I made my own brush definition of 1 point round. Even zoomed in at 1600x I can see these annoying effects happening.
Now here's a good observation. I can select any of the mangled loops and in the Brush Definitions pull down menu I can choose 'Basic' and it cleans it up perfectly! However, I'm darned if I can figure out how to make "Basic" be the default. When I pre-select "Basic" and then draw a shape it changes back to my 1 Point Round definition when I lift the pen and I get a mangled shape again. I have attached a picture of a mangled shape which I copied and then selected and then set the copy's brush definition to "Basic". That fixed it nicely. Now if I can only figure out how to make "Basic" stick, or integrate "Basic" into the default style, I reckon I'll be all set...

  • Photoshope Elements when selecting an action, the paint brush tool doesn't work and system keeps freezing, then catching up every 30-45 seconds

I have been having this problem with elements ever since the last OS upgrade, but it wasn't all the time and it wasn't very bad. Now, I have upgraded my macbook again, and I cannot even edit a photo!! I open the photo, choose an action, say "smooth skin", then choose the paint brush, I start to "paint" over their face and it won't paint a line, I have to keep clicking it, click - it paints, move brush, click again - it paints. Plus, every time I choose a tool or an action, it freezes for about 10 seconds, then catches up to what I am doing, 30 seconds later, it freezes again. HELP!! I have 8 sessions to finish editing by this weekend!! I just want to cry!!

  • Lost use of the paint brush.  Can anyone tell me how to get it back?

My student can't seem to get the paint brush to work.  We closed the document, didn't save, opened a new one but nothing was different.  We seem to be stuck in some setting that won't allow her to paint.  I deselected everything, zoomed in, changed the size of the template, nothing helped.  I'd like to get her back working again in the morning if anyone can offer a suggestion.  Thanks.

Paint Tool not selected? If you're looking at the set of tools on the left, tap and hold the currently-active tool at the top then swipe down to the 4th set of tools. Here, you have the Paint Tool, Effects Paint Tool and the Spray Tool. Just swipe on over to the tool you need (Paint Tool in this case) and release.

  • Can i adjust pressure sensitivity options for tools other then paint brush?

Greetings all, i'm new to Photoshop elements and this forum, could someone help me with this problem please!!!!!!
Is there a way to adjust the pressure sensitve options opacity, scatter, hue jitter e.t.c for tools other then the paint brush such as the dodge and burn tool?
I'm wanting to use the dodge and burn tools with say a chalk brush but set the pressure sensitivity of my tablet to opacity, i can do this for the paint brush by using the tablet options drop down menu but the option doesn't seem to be avaiable for  tools such as the eraser, dodge and burn and smudge tools.
I've tryed the brushes from the Pressure Sensitive set but there is no chalk brush in the Pressure Sensitive brush set that effects opacity and you can't adjust what settings are effected for each pressure sensitive brush when using tools other then the Paint Brush.
Can anyone help me with this as i've tryed everything i can think of.

I guess the easiest way would be to select the paint brush tool
and using the brush of your choice, set those options you want
    and save the brush.
Then when you select a tool such as the burn tool, select your brush.
The one option that won't apply is the hue jitter (you can't use hue jitter or
color dynamics in the full version of photoshop either for most other tools
    aside from the brush tool)

  • Need help with creating a brush

    Hi guys,
I wanted to ask for help with creating a brush (even a link to a tutorial will be goon enough ).
    I got this sample:
I've created a brush from it, and i'm trying to get this kind of result:
but it's only duplicates it and gives me this result:
Can someone help me please understand what i need to define in order to make the brush behave like a continues brush instead of duplicate it?
    Thank you very much
    shlomit

what you need to do is make a brush that looks like the tip of a brush. photoshop has several already but you can make your own that will be better.
get a paintbrush and paint a spot kind of like what you did but dont paint a stroke. make it look kindof grungy. then make your brush from that, making sure to desaturate it and everything.
    EDIT:
oh, and if you bring the fill down to like 10-20% your stroke will look better

  • Painting Brush Issue

Ok I've been painting an image in Cs4 for some time but I took a break from it for a few weeks and I just came back to it, The issue I'm having is the way my brush presets are acting towards my brushes. I was using a Charcoal Brush which when messing with the presets works similar to a real paint brush in terms of the way the bristles show. This is sort of hard to explain but I'll try. My brush when I was using it, had like a dry brush effect; you could the see individual bristles depending on how much I messed with the brush shape dynamics, it could be thick like a loaded brush or it could be thin like a dry brush whatever. Now though when I try and recreate the brush when I go to the shape dynamics its not acting the way it was before. The brush wont thin out it takes on a splatter effect when I move the scattering slider and size jitter that never happened before and I cant get it to stop. Before the way those sliders would effect the brush is it would spread out the bristles now they just add a splatter on them and I cant change it.
^^^^^ That image is the brush before I mess with the presets. Normally I'd spread out the bristles but when I try I get the effect on the image below.
I know this is a bad explanation but I really cant figure out what I'm doing wrong I've reset the brushes I don't know how many times same with the presets I've messed with the opacity and flow but nothing is working. I wonder is there anyone who has an Idea of how I can possibly fix this? It's a problem because I need that effect from the brush in order to match the rest of the painting, Any help or advice would be appreciated, and again sorry for the bad explanation.

Yea I've tried both Size Jitter adds a splatter on it so I already have it at 0 and Pen Pressure just rounds out the edges which I don't mind but neither really have to do with the effect from before. I've tried to mimic the way I had the brush before going in and erasing some. The way it's working now is the top stroke and the way I had it is the bottom. Before the strokes where more spaced out, result of messing with the presets now if I mess with the they add a splatter to them.

  • Elements 9, No Paint Brush

I have been using Elements 9.0 for several months without any problems however I have now lost the standard paint brush & instead just have the smart paint brush.
Due to motor neurone disease I can only use the keyboard mouse keys & find it virtually impossible to use the smart paint brush, I had no problems using the normal basic paint brush.
I have tried reseting the paint brushes, restoring Windows 7 to a previous date & then uninstalling & reinstalling Elements but my original paint brush is not there just the new smart version.
    Please someone help
    Best Wishes

    Hi Paul
You can right click on any nested tool icon to get the fly-out menu. It works with the smart brush and ordinary brush tools.

  • Paint Brush Locked

My paint brush tool seems to be locked. I can't change the stroke, style, or scale....??? Help please!!!

    Hi,
Looks like the 'Lock Fill' modifier is turned on in the Tool panel (available at the bottom of the panel when the Brush/Paint Bucket Tool is selected). Check if that is the culprit.
Also, have a look at http://animation.about.com/od/flashanimationtutorials/ss/gradtoolock.htm for more details on how to use that modifier
    Thanks!

  • CS review not useful for presenting UI comps due to poor rendering

I really want to love CS review. It could become such an important part of my workflow that I'm willing to overlook many of the small shortcomings (lack of printing, no versioning, clunky illustrator UI, etc) until they can be improved.
Unfortunately the show-stopper for me is the poor rendering of small elements at full scale. Illustrator CS5 goes a long way toward making it easier to create sharp and precise UI elements but that precision is lost as soon as the file is uploaded to acrobat.com. I believe it is the conversion to pdf (or flash?) format that is causing the issue.
I have tried sharing vector artwork from within Illustrator CS5; rasterizing elements before sharing; and exporting PNGs (which look perfect when viewed in photoshop) first and then uploading. but all result in the same chunky, fuzzy, imprecise typography and graphics.
This could be fixed by native support for PNG format but I'm concerned that adobe will hold fast to the idea that PDF is the universal document format and that there's no need to support anything else.
If i'm missing something here please share your tips. Otherwise, it looks like i'll be switching back to conceptshare.

  • Mark made by paint brush doesn't fill the tool's outline.

    Mac OS X 10.8.5
    Photoshop CC and Photoshop CS6
Using a mouse, not a tablet.
I don't know when this started, but it occurs in both PS CC and CS 6.
My paint brush tool is set to a standard, hard (100%) round tip, 100% opacity and flow. My paint cursor preference is set to normal brush tip which means that I see a circular outline representing the tip.
When I click the paint brush tool, I expect that the paint mark will completely fill the circular outline that I see. Instead, it fills some percentage less (perhaps 10-15%) than the circular outline. This occurs all the time and regardless of the size of the brush. As you can probably imagine, it makes precise painting impossible.
I assume that sometime, somehow, I changed a setting by mistake but for the life of me, I don't know what it could be. The only thing I've tried (because I can't think of anything else) is trashing my settings and that made no difference.
    Can anyone help with this?
    TIA,
    Beth

It sounds like maybe your Cursor Size in the System Preferences>Accessibility>Display is set to something other than Normal

    Hello Chinasammy,
Report Painter allows you to create reports using data from SAP application components, which you can adapt to meet your individual requirements.
Many of your reporting requirements can already be met by using the standard reports provided by various SAP application components. If these SAP standard reports do not meet your reporting needs, Report Painter enables you to define your specific reports quickly and easily.
When executing a Report Painter report, it is displayed by the system in Report Writer format. You thus have access to the same functions as for Report Writer reports defined in the same way, and can combine Report Painter and Report Writer reports together in a report group.
Report Painter uses a graphical report structure, which forms the basis for your report definition and displays the rows and columns as they appear in the final report output.
To facilitate report definition, you can use many of the standard reporting objects provided by SAP (such as libraries, row/column models, and standard layouts) in your own specific reports. When you define a Report Painter report you can use groups (sets). You can also enter characteristic values directly.
    Advantages of Report Painter include:
    Flexible and simple report definition
    Report definition without using sets
Direct layout control: The rows and columns are displayed in the report definition as they appear in the final report output, making test runs unnecessary.
    =============================================
Below mentioned is the process for creating reports using Report Painter as a tool.
Selecting and maintaining a library for your report: As the transfer structure to Report Painter you use a report table, which is defaulted by SAP and can not be maintained. This table contains characteristics, key figures and predefined columns. In a library, you collect the characteristics, key figures, and predefined columns from the report table, which you need for your Report Painter reports.
When you define a Report Painter report, you assign it to a library. Reports assigned to one library can only use the characteristics, key figures, and predefined columns selected for that library.
When you create or maintain a library, the Position field determines the sequence in which the characteristics, key figures or (predefined) key figures appear in the Report Painter selection lists when you define a report. This allows you to position the objects that you use regularly in your reports at the beginning of the selection lists. If you do not make an entry in the Position field, you will not be able to use this object in Report Painter reports.
You can use either the standard SAP libraries for your reports or define your own.
(ii) Selecting or maintaining a standard layout for your report: Standard layouts determine report layout features and the format of your report data.If the SAP standard layouts do not meet your reporting requirements, you can create a new  standard layout or change an existing one.
(iii) Defining row and column models: A model is a one-dimensional, predefined reporting structure that you can insert in either the rows or columns of your report. If you often use the same or similar row or column definitions in your reports, it is recommended that you create row or column models.
You must define the row and/or column models that you want to include in your report definition before you define the report.
You can also use the standard column models supplied by SAP.
(iv) Defining the report: Defining a Report Painter report involves the following steps.
    (a) Define the report columns: You define the report columns using the characteristics, key figures, and predefined columns selected for the library that the report uses. Alternatively, you can use a column model for column definition. Column models are predefined column structures which you insert into your entire column definition, instead of defining each individual column.
    (b) Define the report rows: You define the report rows using the characteristics selected for the library selected for the report.
Alternatively, you can use a row model for your row definition. Row models serve the same purpose as column models, but are used to define a report row.
Edit and format the report rows and columns in line with your requirements. (For example, you can hide rows or columns, define the column width or define colors for your report rows).
(iii)Define general data selection criteria for the selection of your report data: Selection criteria are the characteristics used to select data for the entire report. You cannot enter characteristics as data selection criteria if they are already being used in the report rows or columns.
(iv) Assigning the report to a report group: Once you have defined a report, you must assign it to a report group. A report group can contain one or more reports from the same library. However, reports that share the same data will select data more quickly and improve processing time.
Hopw this helps you. Please let me know if you need anything more and assign points.

  • Paint brush tool doesn't work with my Wacom tablet

My new pen tablet works well except when I try to use the paint brush tool. I was using NIK Color effects pro plug in and when I select the paint brush mode it didn't work. So I just tied the paint brush tool without going thru NIK and it still didn't work with the pen tablet. There must be something I haven't set correctly but can't figure it out.
Other tools work just fine such as the patch tool, etc. Any ideas?

try reseting the paint brush and download the newest driver from Wacom
