Help! pop up window about usb taking to much power keeps coming up every 30 seconds

Hiya
For a couple of months this pop up window keep on coming up everytime i start the computer. Havent really been bothered before but now it keeps on coming up less than every 30 sec and some times even 5 times at one time. It is really disturbing. What can I do about this? The usb's seem to work fine and its not anything wrong else with my macbook. I only had it since april this year.
Please, help
Kind regards
L

Sorry the message is in swedish.. It says 'Because of an USB-unittook to much power from the computer one or more of the usb-units have been inactivated. It had been inactivated to protect the computer. As soon as you have deattached the unit (no units are attached btw) the other usb-units will be activated again.

If the keyboard is the only USB device connected when you get the error something else is going on.  If a PRAM zap does not stop the error warning, you will need to take a trip to your local Apple Store or an AASP.  If you have AppleCare, call them first.
Another thing you can try is to run Apple's Hardware Test from system CD #1 (the one that originally came w/your computer).

  • USB taking too much power, disabled.

This is the abbreviated error that I receive when I plug in my daughter's brand new iphone 5 to my 1-year old Mac.  Can anyone help?
    Thank you!!

    Good Afternoon,
I actually ended up taking the phone into the Sprint store last night, as that is our Carrier, and we had ordered it direct thru them.  I did not take it in for this reason as I thought this was more an Apple situation.  I took it in because the charger would not charge the phone even plugged into the wall.  You had to hold it at a weird angle to get it to charge.  The gentleman took a look at it and said the cord was bad.  He replaced it without even a question.  So, I took it home and my daughter charged the phone completely.  Once that was done I tried it again on my computer and it worked just fine.  So, I am thinking the cord was bad and that is why I got the error message.  I might be wrong but that might be a route for you to check.
Good Luck!!!  ...  I know that it can be frustrating

  • MacBook pro 13" mid 2010 "USB drawing too much power" HELP

Hi, my MacBook Pro keeps coming up with a window about 30 after start up saying "USB drawing too much power" and none if the USB ports work neither does the iSight camera (green light is constantly on) and the headphone jack won't work! I have tried re installing OSX but it hasn't worked! Apart from an SMC reset and a PRAM what else can I try? Absolutely nothing is plugged in not a single cable or keyboard or mouse just my MacBook on its own, is it definitely a software problem or am I going to have to get apple to repair the hardware because I do not have that much money to replace a logic board and get apple to replace it themselves. Thanks in advance!

I hope it works for you ...

When I power-up a pop-up says my USB plug-in overdrew power effecting other systems (webcam, microphone) shut down and are now unrecognised. How do I reboot so I may have access to these features?
    Any help is much appreciated!

Do you have any USB devices attached to your machine? Other than those 'built into' the internal USB hub?

Do you actually mean the white cable with a lightning plug on one end and a USB on other
If so that is not the charger ,that is the cable
The charger is the device that plugs into the mains socket
    If so

  • Bamboo tablet stops working? USB uses too much power?

    Dear sirs,
Converted to macbook a year ago and so far I haven't had any problems, until this happened...
I bought my new bamboo tablet less than three months ago and recently it has stopped working at random times- and then, this message pops up. "USB uses too much power, will be deactivated... blahblah" None of my friends who knows a lot about macs can help either, so I gotta ask you guys. And I've tried unplugging it and plugging it in again, the message still pops up.
I only have my tablet plugged in, nothing else and my battery was well over 90%.
What is going on? +I have also asked on the wacom forum, but no replied so far.+

Is the tablet powered from its own power brick or does it get power only from the logic board USB port? If the later, adding a powered USB hub (has a brick) and plugging the tablet there should correct the power problems.
Some USB devices draw more power than many notebook can push through their USB ports. The powered hub is a great asset especially when using a notebook computer like a desktop machine.

  • USB need too much power-nothing is detached?

Please remove the device, that needs too much power.
A window comes up, that the usb needs too much power, but nothing is detached too my computer. The right usb is not working anymore. What to do?

Does the device work on another computer?  It may have failed.
You may try a powered hub or a USB 'Y' connection cable.
    Ciao.

  • A barcode scanner that was connected directly to the Mac's USB port stopped working as the "USB had too much power drawn", even though it has worked for over a year in that port.  WHen we plugged it into the port on the keyboard, the device works. Why?

A barcode scanner that was connected directly to the Mac's USB port stopped working as the "USB had too much power drawn", even though it has worked for over a year in that port.  When we plugged it into the port on the keyboard, the device works. Why?  Obviously the device is operational.  Could the USB port have burned out from having too much power drawn?  If so, is it reparable?

It can't draw "too much" power, it can only draw as much as the USB port is able to provide and no more. IIRC, the keyboard port has a lower power output than the iMac's port.
That being said, yea, it's possible that the port has failed and it can be replaced or if another port works you can use that one. Although if it is still under warranty or covered by Apple Care, then I would take it to an Apple Store or service provider to get the port repaired.

  • My iPad keeps locking itself every few seconds, any ideas how to fix it... Drives me mad having to put my pass code in all the time and the screen keeps going blank :( HELP!

My iPad keeps locking itself every few seconds, any ideas how to fix it... Drives me crazy as the screen keeps going blank and I have to constantly put in my pass code every few seconds. Can someone help me out please. The pass code lock is set at 10 minutes but it's happening every few seconds :(

I've run into the issue and it seems to be related to an app not fully supporting the iOS you're on, the reboot doesn't usually solve it.
I've solved it in the following manner(s):
    1) Backup the device to iCloud, then erase the iPad (Content and Network Settings).
    2) Setup the iPad and choose to restore from iTunes/iCloud Backup (wherever you backed it up)
    3) Perform any software updates
I have not tried simply performing the software updates (which may fix it, but if it doesn't you won't be able to perform the above steps).
    Enjoy.

  • 2011 Macbook Pro suddenly says no space available on start-up disk (plenty available) and USB drawing too much power (only charging phone). What's going on with my computer? No longer able to charge my iPhone 5.

    Hi, all.
Two days ago I was using my computer, a 2011 Macbook Pro, and suddenly got the error message reading "Your Mac OS X startup disk has no more space available for application memory. To avoid problems with your computer, quit any applications you are not using. Closing windows and removing files from your startup disk will also help."
I was only using Google Chrome, nothing was running in the background, and I have 443 of 449.25 GB available (this is after clean-up I conducted after receiving the error message, but probably cleaned up less than 25 GB), so there should be no shortage of space. However, the message kept popping up and I deleted a few files and eventually it went away and hasn't reappeared.
However, last night and then again this morning I have been getting the error message that my USB drive is pulling too much power and has been disable. All that was plugged in was my iPhone 5 on the charger and my computer is also on its charger, so I don't know why this would be an issue, either. I have always charged my phone this way and never had a problem until today.
I haven't been able to charge my phone since. What's going on with my computer?

Regarding the USB, see if zapping the PRAM helps.

  • Constant error message: USB drawing too much power - no USB plugged in for weeks?

Starting about two days ago, I've been getting error messages about every 30 seconds saying that a usb device is drawing too much power, and my usb device has been disabled. I haven't had anything plugged into the usb ports for about 3 weeks, well before I started getting this error message. At first the error messages came up one at a time, but now about 5 of them pop up every 30 seconds..
There seems to be no visible damage to either of the usb ports, and I've updated software and restarted it too. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on?

If SMC and PRAM resets do not correct the problem, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a FREE evaluation.

  • USB consuming too much power -notice

I get all the time notice/warning that: "USB-device is consuming too much power. Hub/concentrator which the device is connected will be shut down." During this writing I got the notice three times.
I don't have anything connected to my Macbook Pro (bought year 2006), not even mouse, just power wire.
What to do? I don't see any difference after the notice (that something has been shut down). It is just popping up all the time and makes working with the computer really annoying. It might be related situations the when computer is moved, or something.
Can I swich some USB-port/device off? Thank you in advance already!

I had the same problem which arose just after I lost an external hard disk (Lacie 1 Tb started to make loud clicking sounds). I'm not sure whether I lost the hard disk because the break down of the USB-ports or whether I lost the USB-ports because of the break down of the hard disk (?).
Either way I get the same warning and after resetting the SMC and the PRAM I reinstalled the OS. Nothing of it helped. Instead I went to the authorised Apple service partner. And now it gets scary for real.
Apparently the USB-ports are an integrated part of the logic board (not just a card) and I need to get a new logic board to fix the USB-ports. Price 10.000 DKK. A new MacBook Pro will set me back 13.800 DDK (divide those figures by 5,8 to get US $).
I'm in some kind of chock. The MacBook is not yet 18 months old and works fine - except for the USB ports that I do need for connecting my camera, external hard drives and my iPhone......

Because a USB device was drawing too much power from your computer, one or more of your USB devices have been disabled.
To prevent damaging your computer, the USB device drawing too much power has been disabled. Other devices may have also been disabled. When you disconnect the device drawing too much power, your other USB devices will be enabled again.

Hi, is that plugging it directly into a USB port on the iMac?
Do you have any other Bus powered things connected to the Mac?
