First step would be to get rid of the numerous instances of AdWare on your computer.
Please review the options below to determine which method is best to remove the Adware installed on your computer.
    The Easy, safe, effective method:

  • My iMac (24-inch, Early 2009) will not play DVDs.

My iMac (24-inch, Early 2009, purchased new from an Apple store) will not play DVDs.  When I attempted to open the DVD Player file in Utilities I got the following error message: ‘A valid DVD drive could not be found. [-70012]’  I've downloaded nearly every software update that Apple has notified me has come available. It's been several years since I last used the CD/DVD player, but i was quite surprised and unhappy today when it spat out every DVD I inserted.  Anyone know how I can resolve this problem?

    Hi there,
Your machine should be supported, the requirements for Mountain Lion are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
    You must also have:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
Also, you might like to try unplugging any external drives, and backup ones, and try again.
    Nathan

    1. 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

  • I have an iMac 20 inch early 2009 software osx 10.8.1(12b19)...i am not able to use my internet, outlook, or any messenger. tried troubleshooting, reseting safari, disabling firewall, deleted intego...still no internet

I have an iMac 20 inch early 2009 software osx 10.8.1(12b19)...i am not able to use my internet, outlook, or any messenger. tried troubleshooting, reseting safari, disabling norton firewall, deleted intego...still no internet. i did delete intego without uninstalling so im wondering if that caused the problem. everytime i try to open safari it displays this: Safari can't open the page: "http://www.yahoo.com/". the error is: "the operation couldn't be completed. Operation not permitted" (NSPOSIXErrorDomain:1)

Like nearly all antivirus utilities for OS X, Norton a/k/a Symantec and Intego are worthless junk that will cripple your Mac. Remants of one or both are most likely preventing Safari from communicating.
Search the forums for techniques to eradicate them - simply disabling them or dragging their apps to the Trash is not likely to be sufficient. Start by reading this procedure from Symantec:
    http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH103489
    For Intego: http://support2.intego.com/kb/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&id=214
... i did delete intego without uninstalling so im wondering if that caused the problem.
I believe you are correct. Download and run its uninstaller.

  • IMac (24-inch, Early 2009) Hard Drive Replacement: Hybrid and Maximum Size Question

I have a 24-inch iMac, early 2009 model and the internal hard drive has died so am looking to replace it and also upgrade it in the process.
At the moment the broken internal drive was the standard 1TB model that comes with the computer. I have been doing a little bit of research and I'm liking the sound of a hybrid drive as they seem to be a relatively economical was of achieving close to SSD speeds. I've been looking particularly at 'Seagate ST4000DX001 DESKTOP SSHD 4TB SATA 6GB/s NCQ NAND 8GB 64MB HYBRID' for the replacement. I guess my question is if this drive will work in the iMac. Does a hybrid drive present and problems? Also, is there a limit to the maximum size the replacement drive can be? Will 4TB exceed this limit? Lastly, I understand this drive uses SATA III to connect with the computer, which is backwards compatible (I think?) so I'm presuming this will work in my iMac?
    Thanks in advance.

The hybrid drive will kinda sorta be as fast as an SSD. The newest Seagate Hybrid is quite intelligent about caching the most often used files in flash and is quite an improvement over the first iteration. I used both the first and second generation drives in my 2007 iMac and was quite impressed with their performance…until I installed an SSD. The problem with the hybrids is that they just don’t have enough flash and no matter how intelligent the drive is it is guesswork so sometimes you’ll find the drive access just as pokey as any other 5400 RPM drive and then other times very fast.
For about $200 it is a decent upgrade but with SSD prices having dropped nearly 50% in the last 18 months it is worth considering a smallish internal SSD for the OS and applications and an external drive for data.

  • IMac 20" inch early 2009 Dual Monitor

    Hi,
I want to connect an extra monitor to my mac but I'm not sure if I can! • IMac 27 Inch Early 2009 freezes periodically

For the last couple of weeks my iMac has been freezing and requires a hard reset to fix.  On at least one occasion the screen flashed before it froze.

I have the same problems with my iMac 24" Early 2009 with the Nvidia GeForce GT 120 256MB MXM graphics card. I've done the usual and finally decided that it's a faulty card that only a replacement will fix. Oddly, when I'm home it's more stable when connected via a Displayport DVI adapter to DVI cable to a 24" Dell display. When standalone (like when travelling with my iMac for long stints out of town) it's unusable. It won't run for longer than 30 minutes then I get screen artifacts and freezes and then have to fsck to repair the drive before running it again.
However, I believe that I found the solution. I installed a program which I downloaded after installing XCode called Quartz Debug which has apparently allowed me to disable Quartz Extreme, 2D Acceleration and Quartz GL. I'm not sure which one of these changes has allowed my shaky iMac to run stably now for three hours, including a half hour running a flash game and to play about the same amount of the iTunes download of the movie Avatar, so I'm relatively confident that what I did is working. Both Flash and Quicktime seem to work fine although there does seem to be a bit of screen redraw lag when moving objects on the screen or opening new windows. Other features seem to work fine such as Dock magnification and the Scale and Genie effects.
    To disable Quartz Extreme:
Install XCode and then under the XCode menu (the one to the left of "File") click on Open Developer Tool/More Developer Tools...
That will take you to this web page:
    https://developer.apple.com/downloads/index.action?name=for%20Xcode%20-
(I don't know if just downloading QD will work without installing XCode, it might)
Select and dowload the package of Applications/Tools called:
    Graphics Tools for XCode
Drag the Quartz Debug program to your Applications or Utilities folder. StartQuartz Debug. If you don't get the default tools window open when you start it, look under:
    Window/Quartz Debug Settings
. . . and a window will open. You can also hit command-1.
In that menu I made these changes:
    Deselected Enable Quartz Extreme
    Checked the Disable 2D Acceleration
Checked the Disable radio button under Quartz GL
I am not confident that the settings will persist if I close the program. One website suggested that by forcing quit they will persist, but I'm just not sure. I'll experiment with this later and post again if no one else does. So for now I'm leaving it running and with these settings and no other changes.
I also applied the following changes in Terminal although I'm not sure that it did anything:
    http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20120211025246804
So far it's working. I'll follow-up as I have time and once I'm back home.

  • IMac, 24-inch, Early 2009, screen issue, screenshot attached, help... ...anyone?

lines on the screen are leftovers from firefox and a flash game... any way to 'refresh' the screen?
or is this a signal my mac is ready for retirement ?

    Thanks Mike...
... and I was thinking maybe leaving a screensaver overnight
    for a ''windscreen wiper'' effect...
Let's try all  white first.. I'll leave it white and see what happens...

  • Fans run full speed on stand-by and burner problem iMac 24-inch early 2009

In standby sometimes the fans are running at full speed. Also with burning some CD or DVD's the burner makes an awful grunting sound.
For a 2 year old Mac I did not expect to have these kind of problems!
Resetting the iMac does not help. Might this be a Lion problem?
Optical Drive is running at 4800rpm, normal 798rpm
Hard Drive at 5903rpm, normal 1599rpm
    CPU at 3598rpm normal, 1200rpm
The burning problem only happens sometimes, not with all.

What did you do to reset the imac? Problems like these are "sometimes" solved with an SMC reset.

  • HT4904 imac 24-inch, Early 2009 can use hardware test over the net?

My imac keeps freezing on me over the more trivial things like youtubing or running apps I got for my toddler son. It's frustrating and I don't know if my hardware si to blame.
Can I run hardware test ove rthe web since I'm using mountain lion now?
Also It seems like this is already addressed but the fix doesn't fix it because al alredy have it installed:
About iMac EFI Firmware Update 1.4
This update fixes intermittent system freeze issues for iMac computers with ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphics and fixes wake-from-sleep issues in Boot Camp.

Also I want to point that they had this problem before : https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1978213?tstart=0
It was fixed with the new firmware but since I updated to Lion the problem started for me. Does you knwo if they eill release a new firmware update that takes care of the problem now?

  • IMac 24-inch, Early 2009 connecting to Time Capsule 1TB

My adult daughter had it working in CA. I moved with it to IN. She is in Europe. I would like to get it working again either wirelessly or directly.

    This should help you http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/TimeCapsule_SetupGuide.pdf

  • I have an iMac - 24 inch early 2009, What is the highest I could upgrade it to?

    I have a 2.66 intel core 2 duo
    4gb 1067 Mhz DDR3
    Nvidia GeForce 9400 256mb
I want it to be faster and handle video and imovie better.
What upgrades are available and can I do it myself?
Would I be better off buying a new mac?

You can upgrade to Mavericks which is available from your App Store, free of charge.
Memory can be upgraded to 8GB, you should be able to do that yourself, quite easily.

  • Since updating to Maverick, my imac has become extremely slow.  I have ran an EtreCheck and posted it below.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!  Hardware Information:      iMac (24-inch, Early 2008)      iMac - model: iMac8,1      1 2.8 GH

We're just other users here, & I don't consider it likey, but if AppleCare can't help, ask to speak to customer service, also, no idea on EU consumer laws that I hear are a bit better than over here.
