HELP! Powerbook display looks creepily like MS-DOS....
Dear kind helper,
When I turn on my brandy new powerbook G4 beautiful machine, the gray screen is displayed then i go right to this black DOS-like screen. I'll type exactly what it says......

I press enter and a command prompt appears like this: -sh-2.05b#....and I can type in commands.
I have tryed to figure this out to no avail. I tryed whatever methods were in the Apple troubleshooting for Startup Failure. I actually do not really knopw what I'm doing so I would love for someone to help me out. If this was a PC I would have a better idea. Am I out of luck?!?!? THis system is like a month and a half old.
Please help!

'Show duplicates' is now under the 'View' menu. To see the 'Date added' column go to 'View options' from the 'View' menu and check it in the section under 'Stats'.
Click an audiobook once to select it and hit command-i (Mac) or control-i (Windows). Go to the 'Options' tab and set 'Media Kind' to 'Audiobook'. -
Hey .. Water On My PowerBook ... Display looks weird now
hey ... some water managed to drip down onto my powerbook from above...
everything else seems to be working find.. but the display looks lil dark.. and has dark spots here and there on it...
is it find to just leave it to dry ... would it dry and be back to normal .... cuz i see some spots like where the water has already moved/dries.... would it be back to normal soon . or should it carry it in to apple or sometihng?....I would advice to take it to a Apple store for them to look at access what needs to be done. You do not want more damage to come to it...

My iPad mini retina display wifi 16 GB is showing blank white display and is like frozen. I can't shut it down or restart. It was working perfectly till 13/4/2015 night and next day morning it showing this problem.There is no physical damage to my iPad and is in perfect good condition. I updated the latest OS 8.3 version 3 days before this issue happened. I took it to the apple authorised service centre but to my shock they told the display and unit has to be replaced which will cost me Rs.15000/-. It's just been one year and 7 days only since i bought my iPad,i.e, just 7 days out of warranty period only.I don't find any fault with the hardware neither no physical damage is there. Need help to sort out this issue.

I downloaded FF 4 and now 5 and with neither my screen looks nothing like it shows on the FF page. For instance, I do not have the orange FF tab in the upper left corner, I have no option of "pin as app" nor do I have Panorama. Can someone please help me?
To get the orange FF tab, go to View > Toolbars > Menu Bar. This should uncheck the menu bar and give you the orange button.
Panorama is a box made of 4 grey rectangles that should be on the far right, if it isn't after you enable the orange FF tab, right click on anywhere on a tool bar that doesn't have anything on it, and you should get a menu with a list of your tool bars that you can check and uncheck. go down to customize at the very bottom and it will open a window with all your buttons. Find the panorama/tab groups button and drag it onto the tool bar of your choice.
to pin a tab as an app, right click on it; it's an option in the right-click menu. -

so I need to find away to ectract a particular colun of data into

IE8 will not display web content like other browsers....Help!
Hello Everyone:
I designed webpages in DW5. The pages view nicely in every browser (Firefox, Chrome, Safari) with the exception of INTERNET EXPLORER 8. That browser will display nothing but the page background image and no other content. I'm tired of IE8 flipping me the bird on this......what might be the issue here? Any information you all can provide will be greatly appreciated.
Note: I determined is not a localized issue by checking the site from work on IE and got the same result......blank screen (middle finger). Help!!!!!!Wendell01 wrote:

It depends what the errors are. You can try running Commands > Clean Up HTML from within Dreamweaver. That might fix some errors. However, most errors are likely to need fixing manually.
For future reference, when you need help with display problems, provide a URL of the problem page. Sometimes fixing one error can eliminate many others. -
Light spots (not pixels, regions) on PowerBook displays
Be forewarned: This includes a lot of conjecture on my part.
We're developing some software and need to get some older PowerBooks for platform testing. We only need these things for a few weeks (OK, maybe months) and then would probably sell them once done with them.
In any case, we've seen a fair number of PowerBooks, particularly the 15" models, showing up on eBay with "light regions." I say "regions" because it really doesn't look like it's a typical failure related to electronics. When I've seen displays go bad they most often seem to show things like lines running up and down and/or across the display, pixels that won't change color, and blocked regions showing combinations of the two I've just mentioned.
These problems seem different in that they really look almost like someone came across the display and airbrushed it in a few places to make it look lighter or darker in the specific regions. The colors change on demand, but the areas showing spots are always show the same type of color shift. For example, if you turned the entire screen a solid medium blue, these areas would look like someone came along with an airbrush and sprayed the regions showing this light blue. If you turned the display red, then the areas would look like someone came along with an airbrush and painted them a lighter shade of red in the exact same areas.
What I'm guessing is that in the LCD assembly there's a diffusion sheet that was probably bonded to the back of the LCD panel so the light source would allow the LCD to appear to have even brightness when initially manufactured and displayed. My theory is that either through heat, abuse, or just time, that the diffusion sheet has begun separating from the back of these LCD panel by bubbling up, causing those areas to capture more light and hence cause these "lighter regions" to appear.
Here are my questions:
1. Does this theory hold any truth, or is it a bunch of hogwash?
2. If this theory does hold true, I would think that the diffusion sheet could be reattached unless there's a layer of glass over it. Has anyone tried this?

MendoniteIf your just opening the html file from a link within your site, then you could code the link to open in a new window at full size. This is not done through RH, but instead on the site where its linking to your webhelp index.html page. Its relatively simple, and you can customise things like viewable buttons, scroll bars etc etc.

15" G4 powerbook display fault
My 2005 powerbook has developed a critical display problem. Like several I have seen on youtube. The display streaks across the screen. Mouse movements move pixels around. A knock above the optical drive solved it briefly but now that knock generally results in instant shutdown and the power button does nothing. When you close the lid it switches on again but comes up on the mac-boot page. Moving the screen does nothing. any ideas welcome. Anticipating a huge repair bill 4 years out of warrenty. Paid £1600 for this so am reluctant to part with it so soon.
BoWhere do you tap it is it around where the ram door is? The most effective test to perform now is plug it into an external monitor and see if the problem on the screen also appears on the external display. If it does, this is quite serious because it means the graphics card has had it. The other thing you can do is to go to this website and download iStat Nano.

It is a simple dashboard widget that tells you basic info about your mac. Such as battery life, hard drive and memory being used up and so forth. The feature we are interested in here however is the temperature sensors in the PowerBook that report to iStat. We can see how hot the GPU/CPU or hard drive is with this app. You can conduct a little test with this app. Measure the temperature when you start the mac up and measure it again when the issue occurs. This way we can determine if the issue is heat related. You can also use the help of the fan speed to isolate whether the issue is due to temperature or not. You should find the left fan run faster as the machine heats up as this controls the cooling of the GPU.
Report back to me with your results and we can go on from there. -
PowerBook display - fade & tint over time?
I recently got a Apple Cinema Display 20" for my PowerMac, but also to use with my PowerBook. Side-by-side, the Apple Display is MUCH brighter -- more than I expect would be reasonable. I also notice that the Cinema Display has bright whites, whereas my PowerBook has a sepia/pinkish cast. Whether using the standard caliberation or tweaking my own, I can't seem to find a white point that seems white.
I've thought that the PowerBook display wasn't near as brilliant as I remember when I first got it, but the side-by-side comparison has me thinking that my nagging doubts might have some basis in reality. Something that I should take up with AppleCare, or just something I should live with?I agree, I am absolutely sick of getting the run-a-round from apple concerning my PB17. My LCD was replace because of dark spots and failed DVI Port. The replacement LCD still has dark spot, It has Dead Pixels (where my original unit had zero) but more frustrating is that the replacement LCD has a nasty yellow/green hue that can't seem to be calibrated out. The Contrast and Color are terrible. Many telephone calls to apple including this notebook being sent in for this color issue 3 times. They say there is nothing wrong. When I look at 17" notebook models from other manufactures, I don't see these issues. This has been in so many times for repair that they should just give me a new unit. In the 20 weeks that I have owned it, I have been without it due to repair issues for 6 weeks and now I am waiting for box to ship it back again for this color hue on the monitor. The most recent return to Apple for repair yielded nothing except for 1 week of down time, and a written report stating that they feel the color issue is from "software corruption" Because of this, I formatted the hard disk drive and did a fresh O/S install only to find that the nasty yellow/green color hue is still present. The unit is scheduled to go back to apple again for this color issue as soon as a box arrives for transport. This is completely uncalled for, especially at the price of this product. I agree that suit should be considered. I know this is happening to others but Apple treats my issue like I am the only person having issues.

I downloaded latest software on iphone 4 and installed new software on my imac (snow leopard 8.6)and now phone not synching with new itunes. Itunes does recognize the phone but the itunes is totally different now. It doesn't look anything like the previous vesions. I can't even find a tab for synching. very strange. any help is appriciated.

My Firefox 4.0 does not look anything like the videos you show about the features of the new Firefox. My screen looks totally different than yours. It does not have the orange box in the upper left hand corner of the screen. My screen still looks like the old version. I have the logo on the top of my screen with Ask a Question a vertical line Firefox Help - Mozilla Firefox.
Under this line I have File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. Below this line is a tab with Ask a Question Firefox Help and a +. My husbands screen looks identical to the orange Firefox Box in the upper left of screen. I would like my screen to look identical to the ones shown in your videos. I only have one version of Firefox 4.0 my husband does have the Firefox 4.0 plus the Beta version. How do I add the Beta version? I have Windows Vista running systems. Please help.
