Help! powerbook went dead for no reasons

Yesterday i was just doing my regular maintance routine for my powerbook. Repair permission, run system janitor. After that i just use my powerbook to play music, and i fall asleep. after i woke up, the music no longer running, and the spinning wheel displayed. I notice there was a very loud spinning noice comming from inside of the powerbook. Before the hard crash my powerbook didn't make such noice. I tried to get in the (forgot the name, but it's the place where you can see how many application your system are running and kill the application at will), but i can't even get into that application. so i restarted.
Now my powerbook just got to the grey apple logo with the spinning wheel. it no longer doing anything. I tried to use the installation disk but the screen kind of flahes two or three times, and end up at the grey apple logo as well.
I back my my system regularly with a Lacie External drive, but i forgot how to switch to boot with the lacie drive instead. i am afraid it was the hard drive that failed. I had the powerbook for around 3.5 years. If my powerbook's hd does failed, can i use my Lacie to boot and work? I need my powerbook to do most of my work. Please help, kinda freaking out here... thanks alot!!!

More than likely it does. Can you verify the S.M.A.R.T. status of your drive?
It is good that you have a bootable clone with a relatively recent backup. You can try replacing the drive yourself, if you feel comfortable with the tools, but only you know your capabilities.

Photoshop CS4 Help Window Pops Up For No Reason

This same thing was happening in Photoshop CS3 and I could never figure out why. I figured that since CS4 was coming out, I would buy it, stop using CS3 and the problem would be solved, well it's not. So far, I'm happy with the new program but for some reason, out of nowhere, while working on a photo, the Photoshop Help window (which opens as a web browser window) will pop up for no reason! Today, it popped up over 6 or 7 times and I nearly had to crash the program to get it to stop. I figured this problem would have been solved with the new version since the same thing was happening in CS3 but it hasn't. I'm running a Windows XP-based machine that I built myself about 2 years ago. I have a 512mb ATI Raedon X1650 video card and have 4GB of RAM so this machine has far more than enough power to run the program. I updated my video and mouse drivers prior to installing the program. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks for pointing that out. It really happens very rarely, but when it happens, it's quite a huge annoyance.
Well I have about 3,5GB RAM on a Windows Vista 32 Bit system (hence just 3,5 instead of the full 4GB), with the OpenGL options activated, and maybe over 100GB of free HD space (that'll never be a problem, but since swapping is not used by all modules, I often bump into RAM problems when using tools like auto-aligning layers or stitching panoramas) and 2,5Ghz core duo on a notebook. The Windows swap file is also "just" 4GB...but I found more than 4GB to be a bit extreme.
RAM usage is set to 56% right now (916MB), cache levels is set to 6
After restart, everything runs fine again, I hope the help screens leave me alone.
I didn't know this is since v. 7! I worked with all versions since 5.0 and since becoming a freelancer also bought every version since 6.0 except 7. I only experienced this bug in this and the previous version. Maybe my hardware doesn't keep pace with PS anymore

It sounds like restrictions may be enabled preventing in app purchases.
You can enable and adjust Restrictions, or Parental Controls, on your device to prevent access to specific features or content on the device. Locate these settings by tapping Settings > General > Restrictions.
You can choose to prevent access to specific content types:
Ratings (select the country in the ratings section to automatically apply the appropriate content ratings for that region)
Music and podcasts
Movies
TV shows
Books3
Apps
In-app purchases
You can also adjust the time necessary before a password is required to purchase content.

My iphone will show 1% and then 0 and go off. I can't turn it off again because it shows the battery is dead. When I plug in the charger for 5 or 10 seconds, it might show 40% battery. When I unplug it, I have 40%!! Why does it go dead for no reason

My iphone 5 battery life at the most inconvenient times drains down till the phone turns off. When I plug in the charger for just 5 or 10 seconds, it will often show 35 - 45% left! I unplug the charger immediately and I have 45% battery life! That means I always have to have a charger with me in case it quits! I can't always do that.

The % counter isn't always accurate.
I'd reset the phone, which might help make it more accurate. (press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears).
You might also try restoring the phone from a backup.

Powerbook shuts down for no reason then opens again

hi, i am experiencing a rather bizarre problem with my newly purchased powerbook. i can be working away when all of a sudden it appears to shut down. nothing i can do will turn it back on including holding down power button, then all of a sudden it will turn itself back on again and the screen will show exactly what it was showing before the apparent shutdown. it normally takes a couple of minutes to come back on. in itself it's not too worrying but is it indicative of a more serious fault? anyone any thoughts?

I had a similar problem.
After downloading a utility called "Temperature Monitor" (available on Version Tracker), I found out that now and then, the track pad temperature sensor all of a sudden would record extremely low or high temperatures and hence start an emergency procedure (i.e. force the sleep mode) to protect the Powerbook.
Clearly, the sensor is defective and has to be replaced (still under warranty) but I haven't contacted Apple yet.
In your case, it might be an other sensor. Easy to find out with the history graphing capability of Temperature Monitor.

Did you try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button until the Apple logo comes back again?
Is your phone still charging using the adapter or if you connect to the computer?

Touchpad went crazy for no reason : not detecting multitouch

I have a Synaptics touchpad which I could do two finger scrolling just a day ago. Today, when I try using it with two fingers, the pointer just "flips out", changing its position million times a second.
synclient used to show higher "widths" when I used multitouch (so I could scroll with pressure&width emulation), now it won't do that at all (it recognizes the width when I acutally use my whole finger, though)

I bought a new mouse and thought it was the reason, but I was already switching between touchpad and another mouse on the fly without any problem.
The second possiblity is that I was trying to dim my backlight using some driver and I might have broken my touchpad as a result, but basic gestures (edge scroll,etc) work without any problem and also, I can use it flawlessly on windows.
Any suggestions ?

I would like to say I have had this problem for a year now. It was working fine yesterday, and now when I booted into windows and back to archlinux it started going crazy on two fingers. Anyone have a solution? I desperately want this resolved.
When I use two fingers it goes crazy, when I put my finger down so it covers a larger surface area it works (but that's not the way I want it).
Edit: Okay, after a lot of googling synonyms, I got https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=77005. This solved my problems and this thread is solved.

My I pad suddenly went black and will not come back on with the on/off button.has any one have an suggestion as to the cause.

Firstly, try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank then power ON again in the normal way.] It is 'appsolutely' safe!

How are you trying to import the files? Are you using the import from iphoto command? What happens if you export the photos from iphoto to the desktop and use from files and folders? Does it work that way?

HELP!!! For some reason i cant delete my iTunes.

I recently downloaded the new iTunes and it would not let me install it. It gave me a message saying that i was missing the "iTunes.msi" file. So i uninstalled iTunes and downloaded the new version. Now when i try to install it i get a message saying "The older version of iTunes cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group". Anyone have any suggestions?

-download a free application ( sounds funny but it works 75% of the time)
-clear multi tasking but double tapping the home button and holding down a applicaiton tell it shakes and tapping the minus sign
for you not being able to find wifi. sounds like your phone isnt recongize your wifi
-reboot your router
-power phone off and on
-reset network setting that will erase your wifi password so make sure you remember that

3rdGen iPod TOTALLY dead for no reason / battery is charged

I need some help please!! I uploaded a couple new albums to my iPod today and the battery was fully charged. I was listening to it about 20 min later and it powered off - the screen is COMPLETELY black I can't get it to:
- turn back on / have anything display on the screen
- be recognized by my PC (it says "USB device not recognized")
- be recognized by my iPod dock player
- OR reset/dothe 5Rs

Unfortunately, it sounds like the power supply in it died. If you can't get it to power on while connect to AC (or your PC), there's nothing you can do (format, etc.).

Iphone 4 screen went blank for no reason

My iphone worked fine first thing this morning then went to pull it out of my pocket to send a text and it was blank and it has 50 percent charge, so tried rining it and it rang but still a blank screen and have tried hard resetting and no joy

Found the solution..
Start ITunes
Pressing Home Button and Sleep/Wake Button Connect to your PC/MAC
Release when you see Itunes Restore Icon on the IPhone screen
Restore to factory settings and then to your previous backup.
