HELP!!!... Premiere Elements 12 suddenly won't open

In December 2013 I purchased and installed Premiere Elements 12 and it was working fine. I have completed a project in it that I am ready to publish, but now when I try to launch the program it gets to the quick time part of loading (if you watch what the text says near the bottom of the window as it loads, it get to quick time and then quits). Really frustrated by this and hoping someone has a solution to help me correct without losing my project. Thanks.

Do you have the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer?
Can you open a new project? If so, do so, and, while you have the project open, go to Help Menu/Update and update from 12 to 12.1.

Premiere Elements 8 Project Won't Open. Please Help.

I was working on a Premiere Elements 8 project for my video class last night (HDV, 1080i 30p) and the program stopped responding as I was importing a clip. I was prompted to wait for response or close the program. I closed the program and when I tried to re-open my project, the loading dialog box reaches 100% and then does nothing. I let it sit for over 30 minutes and nothing changed. When I clicked cancel after 30 minutes, I was prompted with the same "program is not responding" box. Other projects open fine, but this one simply will not. After reading through the forums, I disabled McAfee and updated Quicktime, but I am still having the same problem. I have 6 GB of free RAM and I am using footage shot on my DSLR. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated as the project is due this week.

OK, there is possibly a problem with one (or more) Assets.
This next step might be easy, or not, depending on how you have your Assets arranged on your computer.
The easiest is if one has the Assets, or Copies of them, in sub-folders below the Project's hierarchy. See this article for an example: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4028199#4028199
I would Move the Assets from their location, so that PrE cannot initially find them, and attempt to load their links. Then, launch PrE, and Open that Project (since the AutoSaves do not work better, just go with the original Project here). You should get the dialog, "Where is file ____ ?" See this article for more details and tips: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4598705#4598705.
If one has many types of Assets, such as Still Images, AVI's, MOV's, etc., it would be easier if one Moved each Asset type to a new, and separate sub-folder, for this next step.
At "Where is file ____ ?" navigate to where you Moved that requested file. See if it loads. Per the above article, you will see that PrE will then survey that folder, the one that you just navigated to, and try to load each missing Asset IN that folder, and re-link to them. If all goes well, then you should get that same dialog messege for the next Asset type. Repeat. Do this until you get the hang on an Asset. At that point, DO NOT Save the Project. Instead, Save_As and increment the name. That is IMPORTANT.
Then, Move that faulting Asset elsewhere, and test Opening the Save_As Project. If all works fine, then you know that there is a problem with THAT Asset. You should study it carefully, to see what the problem is. If it plays fine elsewhere, and is not different, than other good Assets, then try Importing it again, into that Save_As Project.

Adobe Premiere Elements 9 just won't open!

I always did many projects on it and now all of the sudden it just won't open. There will be this little rectangle at the bottom saying it's loading and it never opens!! I'm so mad! Please help

What is your exact graphics adapter driver version?
Have you gone to the vendor web site to check for a newer driver?
For Windows, do NOT rely on Windows Update to have current driver information
-you need to go direct to the vendor web site and check updates for yourself

Installed Premiere Elements 12 - now won't open

I installed Premiere 12 on our toshiba laptop running Windows 7. It worked fine for one project, but now when I try to open another project nothing happens. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but still nothing. Even going into the Organizer and trying to open the video editor from there, or open a new PE project from there, nothing. No error code, no nothing.

Premiere Elements 12 Files Won't Open Correctly in Windows 8 (64 bit)

I haven't found a good format yet that will opening correctly in Windows 8. Some open with video only, others open with audio only, one opens video and audio but the image is elongated. Nearly all of the file formats I tried that wouldn't open in Windows 8 were fine on a Vista PC

Please give the specific properties of the source media that you are trying to import into Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 8 64 bit. I have Premiere Elements 12 on Windows 8.1, previously 8, 64 bit and am not having the same type of issue that you present.
For your source video, what is
Video Compression
Audio Compression
Frame Size
Frame Rate
Interlace or Progressive
File extension
Pixel Aspect Ratio
What is the camera that these videos are coming from - brand/model/settings for recording?
The project preset should match the properties of the source media. In Premiere Elements 12, the program takes over the job of doing the setting of the project preset. Sometimes it does it right. Sometimes not. When not, then you set the project preset manually based on what you know are the properties of your source media. So, it is important to know the properties of the source media to set up the project correctly.
There are certain video compression that are not compatible with Premiere Elements (any version), others incompatible on some computers but not others. So back to need for properties for your source videos to sort out what we are dealing with.
Please put together the information requested, and we will work with you to get the importing, editing, and exporting of the program that you want (if possible).

Sounds like the app is having issues starting. Maybe choking on a file that didn't close correctly?
Suggest going to System Preferences, General, place a check next to "Close windows when quitting the application".
Then follow the direction in the link above. Namely, Force Quit that app and restart the computer.

It has worked fine. I unimstalled and reinstalled it. Still won't work.

CS photoshop suddenly won't open after running perfectly for 5 years. I do not have the original install disc.
Any suggestions? Apple and Adobe Tech folks could not help.

I installed elements 12, it won't open, a screen pops up with options for e-12 and 4 other languages. When I click Elements 12 a screen pops up with a red install icon, I click it and it askes for the serial number. It won't let me type in letters only numbers. I already did the serial number once. How do I get this to work? I don't want to be a programer!

Premiere Pro 4 File Won't Open

Hi all
I have an adobe premiere pro file that won't open. When I double click on it, the load project bar gets to about four fiths of the way, then it just stops. The last time I saved the file, I saved it to my computer, then I saved it to a portable hard drive to back it up (around four minutes later). Both versions of the file won't open. The previous file will open, but I have done 30 hours more work since then (on the new file). I thought it was enough to be saving every few minutes, saving back ups to a portable hard drive... I also have a raid 1 configuration! I was never expecting this. When I leave the Premiere Pro on the Load Project screen, it stays there for hours.
If anyone has any ideas I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for getting back to me. I just looked in autosave. The file that won't open was last saved at 11:02pm on the 16th. There was an autosave project at 10.25pm on the 16th, and that wouldn't open either (it crashes at exactly the same place as the other one). However, there was an autosave file at 6:17pm on the 16th that would open. Curious though, it doesn't seem to have a lot of the changes I thought I had made by this time. It seems to be earlier than this (although perhaps my memory isn't serving me correctly). Should there be more autosaves that this? I had the program open pretty much that whole time, and nothing between 6:17 and 10:25.
Anyway, that's a start! Something must have happened between 6.17pm and 10.25pm that'd made the file go kaput. I would love to know what, so I can avoid this happening again. First things first though, it'd be fantastic to get the file that isn't opening working.
Thanks for your swift response too, Jim. I opened PP and tried to open the file from the interface. The load project bar stopped at the same place. I can open other projects fine. As to your last suggestion, I created a new project, and went to File/Import then clicked on the file in question. It started importing, then the progress bar froze at exactly the same place. I'm not sure if I did this correctly. Is there another way to import a PP file into an existing PP?
Thanks again for your time. It's just nice to speak to someone about this because I really freaked out when it happened.

FCE project suddenly won't open in FCE but it will open in FCP???

I've been working on a FCE 3.5 project for a couple weeks. Everyday I save the project under a differently dated name. I finished working on the file for this morning and saved it before closing. When I went to open it this afternoon, it suddenly won't open. Yesterday's file version of it will open though. I tried all different ways of opening todays version but it just won't open. So I tried to open it in FCP 5.1 and it opened up fine. I don't understand what could have happened to the file, that it won't open in FCE but it will open up in FCP? Any guesses.

Your method seems like a good one and as you say, makes it easy to spot any problems. I have a big family project involving many hours of kids video which I am editing. I have been filing everything under the one title, using "Save All" each time I finish the session, but in fact I can see the benefits of your method and will now start saving using the date.

Premiere Elements 4 audio won't play on mp4 files, codecs missing/unavailable on .mov files

I dowlnloaded Premiere Elements 4, and when I import mp4 files, the video plays but the audio will not. I've also tried to import .mov files, and an error message pops up that says "Codec missing or unavailable." I downloaded the latest version of Quicktime, but that didn't change anything. The files will play back on the video camera, but I"m having trouble with them on my computer. The audio on the mp4 files plays in Quicktime, but not the video, and vice versa when I import them into Elements. Any suggestions?

Does Quicktime Pro also edit .mov files on a PC?

Premiere Elements 4 pretty much works with tape-based digital video. That would be video from a miniDV or HDV tape-based camcorder. It doesn't handle other formats very well.
If you plan to edit MP4s, you definitely want to upgrade to a more current version of the program. If you can't install a current version of the program, you may need to address issues on your computer (such as an outdated operating system or underpowered hardware configuration).
Short of that, you could buy Quicktime Pro from Apple for $29. It will edit MP4s, even on a PC platform.

On loading Premiere Elements 9 it won't move on from the disc menu screen. Have downloaded the patch which sorted the problem for a time, but have locked up again.

Which "disc menu screen" are you talking about?
Are you talking about the installation menu screen that comes on when you first put the installation disc in your computer's disc drive?
What operating system are you working on? If Windows, have you manually gone to Windows Updates, set the option to download Microsoft Updates and downloaded all of the available updates, including the ones that don't download automatically?

Apps suddenly won't open. Anyone having this problem?

I have a new iphone 4. Has been great until today - my apps suddenly won't open. All built-in apps are fine. None of the apps I've added will open - they flash open for an instant, and close again. Software is up to date, there are no app updates. I have tried restarting apps, have restarted the phone, have removed and reinstalled a few apps - same problem, nothing working. Anyone know how to fix this?
