Help Printing in Lightroom 5

I'm just not happy at all with my prints from Lightroom 5. I've callibrated my monitor and my printer (Epson R3000) and have developed printer profiles for the various Red River papers I'm currently using. The color in my prints doesn't come close to the color on my monitor and they are always too dark. When editing I'm always aware of the histogram and where my whites are. Everything looks great on my 27" iMac (OSx 10.9) but when I print I seem to always have to increase the brightness in the Print module by about 30 percent and the colors are not good.
Also, I'm having a sporatic problem with the print size. I just finished printing a batch of 5x7's for my wife without any problems (except the color/brightness issues). However, when I switch paper size to 13x19 in order to print a 12x18 picture I get a 5x7 portion of the image printed in the corner of the page. I've set my paper size to 13x19 borderless in the Print/page setup window and made the cell size 12x18 in the Print module. Still, it only prints a 5x7 portion of the image.
Anyone having similar problems who might be able to help me?

This is usually caused by your display being at far too high brightness, making you develop your images too dark. Also make sure that you judge your prints using good lighting. In general, your display should be about as bright in the whites as a piece of paper viewed where you view them.
For the red river papers, do you use their profiles or did you generate your own? Are you making sure to set up your printer driver EXACTLY like the instructions? The paper manufacturer only tests this on one copy of the printer so it is possible that it deviates a little because of that. Also, what happens when you export a JPEG from one of your images and print from preview on standard Epson paper? It is very possible that if your color is way off and your prints are very dark that your print is getting double managed by both the driver and Lightroom. In that case, make sure that you download the very latest driver from Epson, uninstall the current driver and reinstall with the newest driver. Sometimes old crud gets left behind in the Lightroom presets that gets cleared out when the printer driver changes. You should not have to do anything special to manage from Lightroom. It should just work when you select a profile in The print dialog.

Printing from Lightroom (2.5 - 3) into Adobe Acrobat 9

I just wanted to post that I have been searching for an answer about errors when printing from Lightroom to Acrobat. When I went to Win7 64 bit Professional and CS5 Design Premium two weks ago - all the problems started.
Looking at the forums - I found several others with similar problems in a 64 bit environment. I tried their suggestions and none helped. I called Adobe this past week and spent 3 hrs on the phone to be told they didn't have a solution but would get back with me (one can only hope). I upgraded to Lightroom 3 hoping that would solve it and it has not.
When collecting images and going to Print, then printing into Acrobat as a 2/2 cell contact sheet, no images are embedded. In Lightroom 3, a clean sheet appears. Has anyone else experienced this? Even when using a new tiny catalog, the same result occurs.
I am running a PC with quad processor, 4 Gigs of RAM, NVidia graphics card that is two years old - all newest drivers for 64 bit. SATA drives, dedicated scratch disk... etc.
The catalog is new and tiny.
The images are small for testing purposes (only about 6 at 300 dpi).
Luckily, I can do a work-around using Bridge but I use Lightroom for processisng photos and sending contact sheets to clients and need this function. Any help would be much appreciated. If you are having the same problem, please call Adobe and report it.

Ok, I've run some tests: files with full native Canon 30D images (RAW) that had been edited in LR 3 and followed the set up given by Adobe. It failed. Some of the pics came in and retained their file names and some showed just file names and blanks for the pic space. Ok, I'll run more tests and come back to this.
I tend to edit, make JPGs (6 x 4 at 300dpi) and then import those and set up the contact sheet. Running full bore - as explained above, it doesn't work.I'll try multiple JPGs to see if that works.
I'll go back into discussions with Adobe. Their support page is convoluted and expensive. I began under the upgrade of CS5 and Lightroom 3. I'll try again.
I do recommend, if possible, that you edit/resize and control your resolution (I set up the printer box in LR for 200 dpi) and then make your contact sheets as per their instructions. You also might try limiting how many sheets your make to see how that works. Create one sheet, then two, etc. so you can see where the cutoff is for your system. I'm afraid some of this may be hardware and how much info you are asking to be transferred from LR to the PDF.
It is very odd that some are coming in and some are not. There is definitely something flaky in Lightroom to Acrobat. I suspect the coding may not be set up to handle 64 bit and that's why it's failing. As far as I know, the only software that is full 64 bit, at present, if Photoshop. The others are running under the 32 bit environment within a 64 bit OS of Win7.

Color shift printing from Lightroom 1.3

Windows Vista, HP officejet Pro L7580 printer, Lightroom 1.3, Photoshop CS3. All that being said and having used Photoshop since ver 5 with a variety of printers I find myself stumped with my latest soup of hardware and software. Screen colors do not print out anywhere close on paper when I try to print from Lightroom. Move the file over via "edit in Photoshop" and print from there and everything is fine. In Photoshop, whether Photoshop or the printer controls the color there is no problem. In Lightroom, however I have no control that I can find. I have no additional profiles so the printer controls the color. Photoshop and the printer are both set to AdobeRGB1998.icc. Other then just printing from Photoshop what am I missing in Lightroom?
By the way Adobe, in the future think about either Lightroom or Bridge but not both.

The problem :
When printing RAW or TIFF files from LR2, you get a printer output that
is much darker than it should be and that presents various color shifts.
I'm using an Epson Stylus Pro 3800 with the latest Windows driver
(6.50 - which is rather old by the way). The workaround described below
works for me under Windows XP SP3. It should also probably work with
other systems/printers/drivers. Use at your own (minor) risk.
The "official" procedure for printing from LR is as follows:
1. Do not let the printer manage colors and select "Other..." from the
profile dropdown list and select the ICC/ICM paper/printer profile that
you want to use.
2. Click on Print... in LR which opens the Print Settings dialog.
3. Select the options you need and the paper you're using.
4. *Disable the color management from the driver's side* (in Epson's
drivers, "Mode | Custom | No Color Adjustments").
5. Print
Unfortunately, *this doesn't work* for many of us and this produces a
print that is dark and has color shifts as mentioned above. Note that
the same image prints correctly from QImage or Photoshop CS3 (that is,
the printer output corresponds to what you see on your calibrated
display).
Apparently, although color management has been (allegedly) disabled in
the driver, there's something wrong between LR and the driver which
makes that both LR and the driver are still trying to manage colors. In
other words, the "No Color Adjustements" option of the driver doesn't
seem to work with LR.
The workaround (found after hours of hair pulling and paper and
expensive ink wasting):
In step #4,
1. Instead of selecting "No Color Adjustments", set Mode to "Custom |
ICM
2. Click Advanced...
3. Check "Show all profiles".
4. Select Driver ICM (Advanced)"
5. Set *both* the "Input profile" and the "Printer profile" fields to
the very same profile that you specified in LR.
That is, if you specified Pro38 PGPP (Premium Glossy Photo Paper) in LR,
then also select Pro38 PGPP in both "Input Profile" and "Printer
Profile". This has actually the same effect has disabling color
management in the driver (what "No Color Adjustements" should normally
take care of).
That's it. When printing, you'll get exactly the same color results as
when printing from QImage or Photoshop. No more dark prints. No more
color shifts.
One might think that the bug is in the Epson driver but in that case,
QImage would have the very same problem. So I tend to think that the bug
is on the Lightroom side.

Epson R1900 Color Issues Only Printing From Lightroom

Hi all - my first post here thought I've been reading this forum since I purchased 1.1 a while back. I'm using 1.4.1 with XP Home, service pack 3. I've had very few issues with this release (which is why I haven't jumped to 2.X yet). To date, I've occasionally printed snapshots with an HP 1115, but most printing has been through labs.
I recently purchased an Epson R1900 and I've been unable to get colors to print remotely correct through Lightroom. It looks to me like the color is getting managed twice, regardless of the settings I use. The R1900 driver allows a preview before actually printing, and the colors it shows are always off by a lot, regardless of whether I let Lightroom manage color or the printer.
Other less sophisticated programs do not have this problem. I can print a JPEG image through Windows Photo Printing Wizard or a pdf through Adobe Reader with much closer correlation to the monitor. Prints from the HP 1115 are comparatively much lower quality, but through Lightroom or other applications, color is within reason. I'm assuming there are others that are successfully using this printer with Lightroom running on Windows XP. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I solved my color problem by updating the printer driver to version 6.60. When I discovered that a newer driver was available I had attempted to update it but it would not install correctly. I contacted Epson for help, but only received links to non-relevant information. I eventually determined that using MSCONFIG to keep all nonessential programs from starting would allow the driver to correctly install. Simply shutting down all user launched programs and my virus software was insufficient.
Prints are definitely on the dark side, but I've been able to compensate as Dan has suggested. Otherwise, I am quite pleased with the prints it produces on Epson Premium Glossy, and am looking forward to experimenting with other papers and ICC profiles. Thanks all for your help and suggestions.

Printing in Lightroom Produces Wrong Colors

I have searched these forums and found a couple of topics that have to do with incorrect or wrong colors being printed by Lightroom but none of the suggestions proposed seemed to help. So, I think that I have something else going on that is causing me problems.
The vital statistics: I am using Lightroom 1.4.1 on Vista Home Premium with an HP C7280 All-in-One printer. The pictures I am trying to print are DNGs converted by Lightroom. When printing in Lightroom, I select the option to have the color managed by the printer.
Basically, any picture that I print from Lightroom looks darker than the original. So, I tried a couple of different tests to try to find out what is going on. I exported a picture to a jpeg and printed that with the Microsoft Office Picture Manager and it printed fine.
I was curious what would happen if the photo was printed from Photpshop CS3. So, I created a copy of the DNG file from Lightroom and edited it in Photoshop. I printed the picture from Photoshop with the color set to be managed by the printer, and Photoshop also printed the photo with a dark look. I then changed the Color Handling to "Photoshop Manages Color" and the Printer Profile to sRGB, and the picture printed perfectly.
In addition, I tried printing jpgs from Lightroom, and I got the same dark results. Any suggestions as to what is going on will be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Unfortunately, Lightroom cannot print to this specific printer without tricks. The reason is that HP does not provide color management in the driver (which is why you have to use sRGB in Photoshop - shudder!) and does not provide icc profiles for it. This is HP not providing good drivers for their consumer-oriented printers, and Lightroom expecting at least reasonably modern printer drivers. Photoshop will print to anything by using the working space fall back that really is a hack. Unfortunately, Lightroom does not provide the same hack. In your case, there is a trick you can use, which is to find the "HP color Laserjet RGB" icc profile that HP ships with their laserprinter drivers. It is just an sRGB profile masquerading as a printer profile. If you use that in the profile field in Lightroom, it
should work.

Printing in Lightroom 3.6

Suddenly the preview window in the print module is blank and nothing prints. I am using lightroom 3.6 but have downloaded the trial version of 5.3 and it still doesn't work. The issue is I cannnot print from lightroom, where as I could before. I have tried someof the suggestions in the forum and some I have just come up against a brick wall. Any help will be appreciaated. Thanks

If you are using Smart previews you may be fooled into believing that Lightroom has maintained the links whereas, in fact, they have been lost.
When you try to print suddenly the problem, as you describe, occurs.
Please let us know whether there is any merit in my hypothesis here.

Dark prints from lightroom

I cannot find a solution to my problem anywhere else so I hope someone here can help me.
When I print from lightroom all my prints come out too dark. When printing from photoshop cs3 or the windows picture viewer the prints are fine. I am printing on a kodak easyshare5500. The printer driver does not allow color management to be turned off, it offers 2 color space options and I have tried both with no success.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to improve my prints from lightroom.

I have only two suggestions for you:
1. From Lightroom Open in Photoshop CS3 and print from there. ( a bit of a nuisance, but less of a nuisance than a ruined print and yet another wasted sheet of paper.)
2. I do not know the Kodak easyshare5500 printer or the size that it can print. Make and save a few copies of your pictures from Lightroom with different values on the exposure slider. Then print them all on one sheet and pick the one that looks best. That will also work for your next print too. I always find that my Canon printer tends to print a good bit darker than what I see on screen, so I have got into the habit of boosting exposure before printing. (and that is with a calibrated monitor etc etc etc.)

Printing from Lightroom = bad, From CS3 = Perfect.

OK, before you flame me I am sure this has been asked before but I tried looking threw the search engine and nothing came up that was directly related to my issue.

Lightroom (Latest version)
Photoshop CS3 (Latest version)
iP6700D Canon printer (Newest drivers)
When I print from Lightroom the pictures look dark and dull. When I print from CS3 using sRGB IEC61966-2.1 they look perfect. I want to try printing from Lightroom using this profile but when I click "MORE" to select other profiles in LR, it is not there.
I am a printer noob as I just got this printer and have always had pics developed for me before this.
Any suggestions on how I can get the same quality from LR as I do from CS3?

Thanks both for your help. I was able to make the picture come out exactly the same in Lightroom as it did in CS3.
The interesting this is that when I selected the specific profile for the paper, the image came out very red but when I just selected the "Canon IJ Color Printer Profile 2005" it came out great.

Weird eh? I have a Spyder 2 that I use to calibrate my monitor so I know that is not the cause, and it looks fine in the other pics. A little light but that's my fault lol.

Printing in Lightroom with icc

Hi,
I made printing profile with Spyder print and tried to print in lightroom with that icc.
Somehow colors are not corret, I made test print in spyder print program and profile is correct.
Also I did print in Aperture and colors where good as is should be.
So there is something wrong with setting in my Lightroom.
I'm using iMac and Mountain Lion.
Can you help me?

When you made the profiles, did you save them as version 2 or version 4 ICC profiles? You want to be using version 2 profiles (version 4 won't give you anything but perhaps problems–even if it may be the default version in the profile software).

Printing in Lightroom 3

Is anyone printing in Lightroom 3 using a Canon Pixma Pro 9000 Mark II? If so could you help me with my profile settings, I've tried just about everything and my pictures are either to dark or they have a yellow cast to them. Can anyone help me PLEASE !!! I am using a mac-book pro I have callibrated my monitor with the Spyder3 Pro and it's just not working out!!

Another "Dark Prints" with Lightroom discussion

Ok, i've read every post on the internet on this topic. I've tried EVERY combination and solution out there. I have an Epson rx580 photo printer with iBook G4. Prints great in PSE4 and other apps (iphoto, etc). When printing in Lightroom...everything is really dark. Not just a tad. I've used epson profiles, managed by printer, managed by lightroom, changd color profiles, no color management,epson vivid...you name it. The only thing that comes close is choosing colorsync. My monitor is calibrated thru color vision Spyder system. I've reformatted HD, reinstalled lightroom, epson drivers, software. eliminated all non epson drivers. Hooked directly in USB slot on laptop...cleaned heads, alighned heads....changed cartridges. What gives???? I should not have find printing anymore difficult in lightroom than PSE 4. Oh yea..I only loaded lightroom when reformatted HD (no PSE4). Did I miss anything else? Please don't reply with any obvious answers that are already all over the net. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've previously posted a thread similar to yours. I use an Epson R2400 with a MacPro using OS 10.4.10. Every print came out darker than what appeared on the screen. I too tried "every" solution mentioned, which I won't repeat here. Alas, while roaming the forums I came upon a solution that appears to solve the "dark print" issue, although I'm not completely sure why. Here it is. With a photo selected from Library, select an appropriate template in Print. In the Print Job select the appropriate paper Profile in Color Management. Use Page Setup to select your printer and the appropriate paper info. Next select Print Settings to select your printer AGAIN and make sure the Preset is STANDARD. Select Print Settings, then appropriate Media Type. In the same box I've selected the Mode-Advanced, Print Quality-Best Photo, checked High Speed and Finest Detail. Under Color Management (especially important) select No Color Adjustment. All of the above has been mentioned in many previous threads. What comes next is the critical part I found recently one dark night when I was too tired to remember where, although I wrote down the procedure to try later. With all the above set up the suggestion was to then HOLD the OPTION key and select Print. This apparently bypasses the subsequent printer dialog and sends the info from LR directly to the printer. Therefore there is no double management as has been mentioned in other threads. The process results in the print being as nearly identical to the monitor as I have ever been able to produce.

I think we need a little more information. What do you mean by browser preview is white and browser window shows image? Are you talking about the Lightroom window? What module are you looking at? I have Windows 7 (but Home Premium) 32-bit, 4 GB RAM, and I don't have any problem printing from Lightroom 4.2. I have never encountered printing problems with previous versions either. Oh, what printer are you using? The more information you can give us, the more likely it is that we will be able to help you.

I'm using PC with: Windows 8.1, 64bit, Lightroom 5.4, Epson R3000, 6.75 (latest) driver, color management turned off in printer settings, Lightroom configured to manage color. If I use a generic ICC profile such as Epson sRGB, the prints look OK. But when I use any ICC profile dedicated to my paper and printer combination, such as Epson Premium Glossy, or one created using ColorMunki print profile, the prints all have a medium to heavy magenta tint or cast. The effect can be seen before I even print in the Epson Print Preview. Yet when I soft proof, I don't see this effect. I suspect the problem lies somewhere in the CMM process, but I can't pin it down. Any tips or suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you kindly for your insightful response. As it turns out, the answer is half correct. I've found others who'll say the same thing, that double color management will lead to a very magenta result. I believe this was certainly the case when I first started playing with the settings, Where I went wrong, is that after I corrected my settings by turning off printer manages color and letting Lightroom do the color management, is that the Epson Print Preview was still showing magenta with certain profiles. Not wanting to waste more money on paper and ink, I used the preview to gauge whether I was going to get a normal print or not. Then one day I ignored the print preview's magenta cast as a 'warning' and I went ahead printed the photo anyways. Because I used a profile that I created with ColorMunki Photo, the picture came out perfect (i.e. a very good match to what I was seeing in Lightoom on my monitor). The lesson learned is that for judging the final color correctness, the Epson Print Preview can be way off target and your best bet is to ignore it.

Pages v5 does not play nice with current Avery label templates in Word format. Pages v5 does not natively perform mail merge without adapting a third-party AppleScript solution.
Labelist 8 is in the OS X App Store for USD $20. It is comprehensive, label software. Download button on their site gives you a free, full functional, 30-day trial. Recommend you consider Labelist over any Pages v5 kludge. Your time has a value.

Grainy prints in Lightroom 5

I'm having difficulty with grainy prints from Lightroom 5. Photos taken in RAW format print perfectly. Photos taken in JPEG format produce extremely grainy, pixelated prints. I'm curious because if I print the same JPEG from iPhoto, I get a smooth print. Thanks.

Is there any chance draft mode printing was checked in the Lightroom print module?
